The RTP will be waiting for their cut for facilitating bugger all. Since he got the cops involved, hopefully the American will compensate them for their "help". It's what's called "old school" RTP.

My premise is UNCHANGED. It's two cheeks of the same arse. Well knock yourself out and offer the OP some help instead of wasting bandwidth on me.
-
No I haven't. The OP made an error of judgement. So have you.
-
It wasn't the OP who changed his mind, as has been confirmed numerous times. We can only advise on what is written, anything else is speculation, "long time already" or not. The OP has already written that he agreed to facilitate a financial transfer between two parties he doesn't know from Adam. I rest my case m'lud.

"A money mule is someone who lets someone else use their bank account to transfer money, often keeping a little bit for themselves. If you get caught, you could get a criminal record. Don't risk your study abroad experience for quick cash. ...If someone you don't know sends you money and asks you to forward or transfer the money, you could be fueling fraud by serving as a money mule. Money mules may be recruited through an online job ad or social media post that promises easy money for little effort." https://www.nationalcrimeagency.gov.uk/what-we-do/crime-threats/money-laundering-and-illicit-finance

Two grammar police do.

Sorry, the OP cannot be "half-a-mule" just because he thought better of the deal after the deal commenced, changed his mind and decided to send the money back.

Using Thai driving licence in UK for car rental
NanLaew replied to Ian Roberts's topic in UK & Europe Topics and Events
If you are dealing direct with Europcar (not a car trawler website) and Europcar have confirmed that the debit card is OK, then there shouldn't be an issue as long as the debit card account balance covers the total cost plus any add-on security deposits, insurance, etc.. Can you download an account statement for the debit card, and does it show a UK address? That should serve as additional ID in lieu of utility or tax bills. For information: If you are no longer UK resident, it is illegal to drive there on the UK driving licence. Using a relative or friend's address doesn't make it legal either. The fine is £1000*, but the police don't go looking for foreigners flaunting this rule. But, in the event of an accident, and your identifying as non-resident, the UK driving licence will be declared invalid and this may open a can of worms regarding any insurance. * The fine is for not keeping your home address current on your UK driving licence, not being non-resident. The DVLC doesn't accept overseas addresses or UK addresses where you don't live so it is Catch 22. Drive safely for your 8 days there and I send my condolences. -

How is the OP paying for the rental? Usually that form of payment has to have the same address as the driving licence. The 2-year 'provisional' Thai licence is generally NOT accepted by UK car rental shops. -

Excellent, thanks. I opened a Revolut account online last year, and it is all app-driven but does the job. -

I am not pushing crypto, but right now it appears to be the only way to avoid the growing "encroachment" by banks and governments on where you bank your money and how you spend it. The gai-yang seller near the airport in Udon Thani has been accepting crypto since after Covid. -

I am about to set up a Wise account from here in Thailand, so maybe you can share some info? Did you use the UK VPN to open the account online first, then get their app later? I have a UK address and banking, so I will also get their card. -

The reference to crypto was a bit ridiculous but it cannot be denied the banks have the ability to push you in the direction they want. For 15 years I quite happily did all banking online and then last year the bank closed the online facility down. They said I had to use the phone app which meant a new phone, the one I had was good enough for me but apparently not their app. With fingers like cow's tits doing transactions on a phone comes close to worst nightmare. Who is to say in the not too distant future another app upgrade will not require a push up the android ladder. On a slightly different note there are 2 major elections on the horizon and it is just beginning to sink in how AI could be used to manipulate the rhetoric with very little in the way of preventative measures. It, or IT, is all heading in a dangerous direction and glad my time is ending rather than starting The banks don't want you to have crypto. Government revenue departments don't want you to have crypto either. Banks can't touch your crypto so they can't shut down your account because you are outside their control. Similarly, governments can't tax something that resides outside the conventional banking system. It's about retaining personal control. -
Old lighting system in house - suggestions for replacements?
NanLaew replied to Encid's topic in The Electrical Forum
In my recent master bedroom drop-lighting revamp, I wanted to replace the same type mini halogens as the OP's from 15 years ago with LED. The original ones were dimmable, so I needed to find like-for-like dimmable LED. I replaced the original Haco incandescent dimmers with Panasonic LED switch/dimmers. Removed the original BEC incandescent fittings and replaced the mini-halogens with Lamptan and Lumax 7W dimmables. They fit the original BEC fittings. Removed the old transformer and wire-nutted the 240 V lines to the original GU3.5 2-pin sockets. Reinserted the 8 LED drop-lights and Bob's your uncle. There are two sets of 2 x Warm white LED downlights that are individually controllable from each side of the bed, nice for reading and telly watching. The remaining 4 are Daylight LED with the switch/dimmer at the bedroom door. That's what I call the 'cleaning' light to help the maid do a better job (I hope). -
OK, we are going with VAF and VAF-G building wiring for economies of speed and cost. Looking at wiring gauge needed, does the following sound right? 1.5 mm = Lighting (all LED) on 10A breakers, VAF 2.5 mm = Wall outlets on 10 A breakers, VAF-G 4 mm = Air conditioners (< 10k BTU) on 16 A breakers, VAF-G 6 mm = Hot water shower units (4500 W) on 20 A RCBO/breakers, VAF-G Looking at the Square D CU, and the desire for individual room circuits (4 rooms), will the following work? The 4 x lights and 4 x outlets would populate the 8 left slots and the 4 x aircon and 4 x tankless hot water heaters would populate the RCD-protected 8 right slots. Are there any issues running aircon on the RCD-protected lines?

In the context of this post/replies my visa status is irrelevant.... when opening my bank accounts over the years I have never been asked about my visa status. In the context of your insistence that your bank doesn't care about your immigration status, you are assuming that your bank is only using your passport for proof of your ID. They will be looking for what long-stay entitlement you have from Thai immigration which conveniently, for them, is inside your passport, thus they have no need to ask you. -

That's a friendly, non-nefarious mule. Last month when my 16 year-old lad needed his Thai passport renewed and to open a bank account, the FIRST stop was the 'one-stop' government office in the mall to get his 'adult' ID card, a 15 minute job. Then along to Kasikorn which, despite being busy, he was done in 20 minutes. Then up a floor to the 'one-stop' passport office which, along with mum's passport renewal and his kid brother's first Thai passport, took just under an hour. I was so utterly gobsmacked by the awesome efficiency of it all, I treated the family to a big lunch at Fuji. The bonus was the new passports arriving via EMS only 3 days later. -

I thunk this short description sums it all up. The way I see it, these CDD rules are in place and most banks publish them online in English as well as Thai. These are the same rules that currently restrict foreign bank account opening to foreigners with legitimate long-term permissions from Thai immigration. Maybe the banks have been swayed by "inducements" from certain foreign entities that do not have the correct long-term immigration status. For example, every immigration agent worth their salt has a local 'friendly' bank manager to make things work. -
Looks more like a legal beagle than eagle. No denying this guy knows his legal stuff and eagerly looking forward to his "fostering a culture of insightful and balanced journalism" in his new role. Who knows, maybe they'll bring back the tabloid Bangkok World and resurrect "The Nite Owl" too.
