  1. I think you should wish it for yourself. You are projecting. Many want for nothing with the aforementioned budget. You are one of the few who get nervous even thinking about it. That’s your problem. You’re going to struggle…
  2. You assume that the ‘local populace’ are paying the same price as a short term tourist. I don’t know why you think that it will ‘give an idea of the holidaying demographics’. Not everyone can swim and not everyone has children.
  3. You arrived at the wrong time. You missed all of the Russian families. I’m not joking. It’s really not all sex tourism. There aren’t any bars at all in my area. It’s literally geared towards ‘normal’ tourists. In high season the Russian families arrive. What newnative states is true, but keep in mind that there’s a lot of infrastructure and tourism hasn’t reached prior levels. So who you meet may depend on when and where. Personally I have no contact with that industry at all other than in passing. It’s not Monaco, but life can be what you make it. There are nicer areas than where you stayed.
  4. Once again, you failed miserably in your delivery. You started with “Thailand” and now obsessing about Pattaya and sex tourism. Seemingly just a bit of a nasty character hiding behind a pretence of good humour. The OP stated that no P4P is involved. So your continuing obsessing with sex tourism only serves to illustrate what is uppermost in YOUR mind. Get it out of your system if you need to and then move on with your life.
  5. Better than a single useless post and yet you made it about me. Hopefully your next effort will be on-topic
  6. Though conversely, almost universally useless. YouTube is free, contrary to your hysterical assertions.
  7. The OP is with concern as to what kind of life and where, can the OP’s acquaintance have with an income of 60k baht. Despite your long and rambling post, I see no such information within. This thread is not supposed about you ????
  8. He’s not hurting anyone. No one is perfect.
  9. Nice rant, but why would a sixty year old retiree need ‘family facilities’? Why the mention of no children in Pattaya? Even if it were true, what’s the relevance to a retired sixty year old? Remember, your original ‘not at all funny’ mentioned Thailand and not Pattaya. It’s only now you are ranting about Pattaya. Because no one here thinks you are funny, it’s our fault? ???? Plus you attempt to denigrate Thai people’s sense of humour?? You really seem to love digging… I think you should stop.
  10. It’s not lost on me that very sensible article was written by a woman.
  11. I can. Show me the link to the original article on Khaosod. Pedant. It should have been clear that I was referring to The Thaiger not providing a link to the story on Khaosod. Apologies for neglecting to spoon feed you.
  12. What I meant is that there was no link to the original article on The Thaiger.
  13. It’s not ‘glaringly false’ and you do appear to be a pedant in this respect.
  14. This is a discussion forum. I have little doubt that I have more experience with Thailand and travel than yourself. I speak from experience and also there are many actually living in Thailand who are recounting their experiences. Whilst you aren’t even in Thailand. You are simply fantasising about a life that you haven’t yet achieved. Whereas the people who are actually living the life are being denigrating by the people who haven’t yet reached their goals. Ridiculous, isn’t it?
  15. What disagreement? There was no disagreement. One was seeking sex and the other love. Where is the disagreement? We discussed and came to a conclusion. I’d guess her age at late twenties. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder…
  16. What you are missing is that people can be content with what they have, whereas others unhappy no matter what they have. The first category will always be the winner… that’s what ‘burns’ you and likely why you keep attacking him. He doesn’t need any of the things you mention. Hopefully when you do, you’ll settle down and stop your nonsense.
  17. I honestly don’t know why you are addressing me with regard to this. The question was 60k and where. If your advice to him is that 60k isn’t enough for anywhere and that he should keep working to build up his pot, with possibly the added stress leading to a earlier demise, then suggest it to the OP. I would think this is a place to recount actual experiences and locations, rather than the vacuous ‘opinions’ that often hold no water and are based on hearsay. Of course it depends on the individual. 60k for some might give someone a life beyond their wildest dreams or simply pay the wine bill of another. It’s subjective. So it quite disgusting to try to deride and judge someone on their level of income. BMT appears more than happy with what he has. That’s the key to a good life. Whereas Celsius might have more than double and be as miserable as a woman scorned.
  18. Pedantic, because it didn’t and doesn’t matter.
  19. I’m not old and can see through your straw man arguments… We are writing about 60k and where. Not “pensioners living on the bare minimum” and veiled insults to a member of the forum.
  20. What on earth has the possible income of a working middle class couple got to do with a question of where a retiree could possibly live on 60k monthly? BMT seems to have eked out a decent life where he is. Many in Chonburi seem to have done the same, so what the heck has your wife’s salary and connections have to do with anything to do with the OP? Have you lost your senses? Tone deaf? There’s a time and a place…. and that wasn’t it. You should be supportive, especially if you claim to have a wife who has her own money. That means that you don’t need to give half your budget away to support someone else. There is no need to support a ‘western’ lifestyle on retirement. That’s the point of retirement. You’ve already ‘escaped’.
  21. No link to the original article of course…
  22. Your post doesn’t make much sense at all. You are attempting to ‘compare apples with oranges’. Most people in the USA, don’t even travel outside their country. For the people who do, most will go as far as Mexico. So I don’t know to which demographic your refer when you write about this western lifestyle that involves travel. This is of course disregarding the fact that they may have already reached their destination in Thailand and don’t feel the need to travel further. Most people travel to get away from their miserable lives and pay a hefty premium for just two weeks of freedom. That feeling subsides if you move to a place where you might feel happy and contented. So why would you wish to emulate your western lifestyle of trying to escape? So if you please, explain what you mean by a ‘limited lifestyle’.
  23. ^^ A lesson in how you can write a lot, but say absolutely nothing. I live in a city and have a life that many might envy. I sure others can speak for themselves, but BMT doesn’t sound as if he is starving nor wanting for anything. So do you have anything tangible or are you simply waffling into the atmosphere?
