  1. Is there a technical way , to fix the problem that the car has less power when aircon is on, for example a stronger battery?

Sent from my iPhone using ThaiVisa app

Get the air on serviced. Get the car serviced.

oh dear!...the aircon when on enables a clutch to a pump which has it's own belt from the engine...ie uses your engine power...open a window instead maybe?

  2. Hey guys - do'nt get me wrong - i love this place and lifestyle, i'm just saying when you struggle to make ends meet for 3 years now, it can sometimes grind you down, my missus more so than me. I just need a box of Chang a week, electric bills paid so i can play with my toys in the workshop and i'm happy.

Glenn, very happy with the E10, now it's had 12k spent on it inc. a complete new clutch inc all hydraulics. I see you're advertising the plot of trees where you are cutting for sale, over on UM. Now hanging onto it or what? The other plot i understand, but trees which are earning money? How's the Pizza shop going?

David, when the weather cooled off, our plot of 1900 trees was doing 105 kgs per cut, 2 on, one off, that equated to 4725 baht per day.

    Regards,

    Mike.

good trees !... 45bt/kilo? ..think we got 43 the other day but cup is discounted for water content 8-10%....my vague figuring was net.

it is what it is.......the more you calculate ....lol

  3. a curfew ......would it not mean no transportation ,no vehicular or pedestrian traffic, no restaurants, bars, food vendors,711 etc open.....??

....I guess we can expect a further announcement as to the government's compensation package budget for night workers and businesses......could be great money spinner for some?

  4. Makes me smile when I see these obese old men going with bar girls who look 14, thats ok because they are legal ? Bet these ppl are the same hang em high posters here. The Western press have these sort of comments about dirty old men who go to Pattaya for a young (but legal) girls, so seems like half the expats in Pattaya would also be strung up if the law makers listened to joe hysterical average man bloggs

Parents sending children to earn, God 90% of bar girls mothers knowing lt live rich off their daughters selling themselves but thats different because they are 18 ? even if their mindset is that of a child.?

And those who blame the parents for not knowing where their 14 year old child is 24 hrs a day ? Get real, kids used to be working full time at that age, they don't need mummy. The boys make their choices just as the bar girls do, the only difference seems to be the price in this case.

No I do not condone underage sex just condone the doulble standards of some Thaivisa posters.

The real abuse of children is done primarily by Thais, I suspect foreigners probably make up less than 1% of abuse perps here, so instead of praising up the BIB (for making it look as if Thailand actually cares about stopping underage sex) they should be campaigning for the country to look at doing something about the other 99% but its easier to make it look like a western disease and pretend it doesn't happen.

As we are into religeous book quotes, how about, 'He who is without sin caste the 1st stone"

    +1

Are not age of consent laws primarily to protect the so called underage individuals against sexual abuse and unwilling and uninformed sexual acts ?

Pious outrage at soliciting by/of rent boys or girls is gross hypocrisy or at the very least naive!

    an interesting read:

  5. oh dear a farming question launching into ethics....better not mention the pollution of air and water refining rubber ,palm oil etc etc I guess...lol ....And the stink of pig farms! Sorry IA.....

On topic.. been reading a lot about the US slave/indentured labour /transportee trade associated with tobacco farming...seems to me that it is a hard work product ( assuming you ain't got slaves or) given all the things that can go wrong ?

Hey but that is just me..I find watching rubber trees grow very tiring these days.smile.png

  6. going by the accepted meaning of home ie place of refuge and comfort yadda yadda ..I would say Thailand is already is called home....certainly when I get on a plane that is heading for Thailand I consider and refer to it as going home?

Don't really like being anyplace else....

Surely home is where your happy and wish to stay..warts and all..... when all said and done?

Okay ........now for a chorus of "I still call Australia home....."tongue.png

  7. don't spend a lot of time on Phuket but had my share of being checked out by police road blocks...been fined for expired rego and once for parking but found the BIB very polite and affable...always got a receipt.

Amazingly once offered a cop a drink after paying the fine at the cop station.( he had led me there on his bike as I had no idea where it was)..he refused.."no thank you have salary".

Although the somewhat silly checkpoint at Saracin bridge and other cones in the road for no apparent reason road blocks are annoying , it seems to me judging by the reports from Bangkok et al, that Phuket is pretty good by comparison.

Maybe I am just lucky or maybe it is the ancient retarded look on my face as we pass these checks...

Had a local Trang boonies cop stop me to check license......told me it had expired ...but then apologized when challenged..did not know what year it was I guess?

  8. ...hmmm probably not that relevant to this heinous crime but..

was in Phuket last week getting blotto as usual and a long time friend of the ife was visiting from Marseille ..

She was with a somewhat quiet french guy who maybe was her meal ticket..not my business.

....anyways she was rather flamboyant and funny and we got chatting and she asked me "how old you think I am"..well being the quintessential gentleman..huh um........said I thought she was probably about 24...big laughs ....so I knew I was low so I said okay...42..she laughs and said right! how you know ..I says I counted your teeth......and your belly is a not THAT flat..good times.....lol

  9. sussex speckeled, polish copper marans frizzled silkie, i dunno ... not brahma, so what is that big furry one with the feathers? just guessing...

bit off topic but got home yesterday and there was this magnificent cock and four hens among the banana trees next to our lawn..hens were brown ish and very round and furry looking ....the cock looked like the one pictured.

Wife said they were jungle chickens ie feral ( we are about 2k from any neighbour so assume she is correct)

.......luckily our dogs were too excited and intent on scratching the truck doors to notice.

Just wondered if there are more than one species of wild chickens or....?

  10. oh the piety of some TV'ers!!

Perhaps one of the attractions of oriental women is that they are somewhat ageless ??

This story is hardly indicative of predatory pedophile activity.

gotta think this is a sting........perhaps by the owners?

... proof of age of the girl? It is not uncommon in Thailand to fail or delay registration of births .....!

... my sympathies are with the American....sad case of $elective application of law methinks

  11. ...would think that someone who has been in LOS for a while would have developed a thicker skin..?

retail purchases in Thailand are hard enough without worrying about opinions of clerks expressed or implied.

.... most Thai girls are very perceptive about men...?

I find it funny when I peruse women's apparel ....god knows what they are saying but they certainly are being very helpful and funny ..I think?......................................................................until the wife turns up.......whistling.gif

  12. ..hypothetically speaking ...frankly scarlet...

I think most resident farangs have enough to think about without worrying about hypothetical scenarios.

This hypothetical ( age unknown) farang sounds as though he is a waste of space, lazy and apathetic............. has not put in any hard yards to secure his/her self and future....grow up, get a job or .........coffee1.gif

    No empathy here!!!!!!!!!!

  13. try jetabroad dot com dot au..best prices and great service...we are off to Van in March ...via Seoul...can't remember exact price but about A$1200+

oh and turn off your tracker if you have one as the web site won't let you proceed with booking..

  14. drove past a couple of weeks back..no problems (atleast no more than usual)..going to Kata from Trang tonight..we will see. Always backed up between central and Chalong regardless..fact of life..methinks ..live with it we must....

  15. Exactly what did you provide to obtain said licence?

Some form of address confirmation (Work Permit, immigration letter, embassy letter) is one of the usual requirements along with a medical certificate.

maybe he used an agent??? Think we all know a few baht in the right direction saves a lot of hassles.

Having said that.... think I still needed the 30bt? medical cert and had to take the test.....TIT after all....if it worked goodonim!

  16. Point is Thommo kids cant look after themselves. Young kids need their mum and dad, and cant understand why they have left them and unless their was no other choice, Its just wrong.

    Says who?

You and your western victorian feminist morality, it's sure working out for the west ....... isn't it.

Millions of single mothers producing feral kids and a disintegrating society, better off with granny in a lot of cases, thinks I.

(Not that I would ever stick my nose into another families business)

Guess the OP is upset because he has little exposure to the real world at large.

Many upper classes and nouveau riche always had/have a nanny ....seen and not heard?

He does not know the story so assumes it is unfair, cruel etc...just maybe the kids are quite happy and are better off than being in a foreign country being babysat while mum and dad work?

Same situation with SIL for a few years ( yes I thought the same as OP and whinged to the wife)..then when the young daughter got to be a teenager, by request from BIL, wife and I got her a passport and and arranged visa...now she lives in Germany with mum and new dad....happy happy .......soo you don't know!

Hell!! me I have three frickin teenage step kids......AAAAAH!!!!

Off topic but what I find sad is the little kids out at 2am selling flowers on the street and in bars....

  17. .....no matter what it is called be it tea money, bribery, corruption, lobbying, unethical behaviour, greasing wheels, it comes down to the fact that money talks!

Had a psych test years ago with a Brit corporation..one of the questions was: "do you believe that there is one law for the rich and one for the poor?"...says a lot?

When I was at GE we had ethics rammed down our throats ..you did not dare ask about the boondoggles for customers et al. .....Just wear the T-Shirt and bite your tongue......

Looked up the worlds most ethical companies......... yet many of these companies continue to exploit the worlds labour and resources ....gotta ask how these companie$ get on the li$t??

Money and the power it brings rules in every facet of life.....good or bad is irrelevant methinks?

At the end of the day we can only do what we think is right according to our values but we have to be part of the money circus if we are to survive?

  18. just had annuva thought.....lol

Typically many bathrooms/laundry areas in Thai house designs are wet ie no shower stalls per se...think maybe use brick for bathroom walls...?

Also things like Kitchen cupboards here do not have the back clearance required for the necessary battens for mounting on gyproc walls......so additional cross studs in mounting areas would be necessary maybe?

  19. Agree with Naam, if you use the locally produced materials you should have no issues. We don't have stud walls but the stuff they used on our ceilings was very rigid, much more-so than we would use in the UK.

Ensure that there is no ingress path for the local fauna. Termites won't eat your materials, but all sorts of other critters large and small would dearly love to set up home in your safe, dry walls sad.png

555 agree..under our house is open in part and we got mice in one small area between the concrete beams and an adjacent wall ( got in next to our gas line)..... their urine disintegrated the ceiling gyproc.

again a bit left of topic .....OP notes the use gypsum for the convenience of services....

.....on that note, have you seen the gypsum clip in metal frames for electric outlets and switches.?...

I wanted to cement them into our brick walls when I wired the house as thought conduit and boxes too hard and overkill .. I direct buried the wiring and plugged the walls in the end.....

Think the OP would be better off with brick than gypsum walls..... economically anyways.

I guess the use of stud walls would influence the structural design/specs of a house..ie steel roof and cement tiles etc vs wood and tar or shingle in NA?

Having said that gonna build a built in wardrobe with gypsum board and steel studs ...just so I will have some bits of gypsum to fix the downstairs ceiling..tongue.png
