  1. Thx Lannarebirth. I sent message to dave2, Loong, I like that idea, but don't need something so portable. It did give enough info to know that the bike idea will work for what I am trying to do. I wasn't sure a petal bike would be able to turn the pump fast enough to move enough water. Maybe I can just weld a sprocket to the pump and do chain drive.

I have a small garden (40m X40m) near the pond. Too far away for electric and I don't want gas. I want to fill a tank in the center of the garden. Since water here is limited, I still water by hand, but hate to have to dip 5 gallon buckets and carry up the embankment.

gotta admire your spirit...can just picture the wife/gf sitting peddling her butt to water the flowers..lol

What about buying a marine bilge pump or similar and a battery?....

Manual diaphragm bilge pumps would be an option too at 10GPM up?

  2. "I use the computer primarily to browser the internet. I use FF and usually have 5 to 10 open tabs as well as 4 to 8 apps running.

I am not a patient man so I want very fast (not lightning) processing power.

I listen to quality music so I want great audio digital interpretation by the PC.

I watch movies that I download. I may want to connect the laptop to a future LCD TV as well.

Of course, I do the normal computing stuff."

Hmmmm. You're describing exactly what an Apple Mac computer does best--without all the virus/malware stuff that eventually slows down most PC's.

After using PC's since 1982, I finally bit the bullet (price) and sprang for a MacBookPro three months ago. Best decision of my computing life. I can have 6 or7 applications running, tons of windows open, cinematic-quality music playing on external speakers, and not detect a millisecond of pause in the operation of my laptop. With two monitors and a full-sized wireless keyboard, it more than adequately doubles as my desktop PC when I'm in my home office.

The learning curve for learning a new operating system is pretty fast, as Apple provides a myriad of transition tools from the PC environment (clever marketing, of course). I must admit that the every thing new I've had to learn turns out to be more user-friendly than the PC environment (use of mouse, trackpad, keyboard shortcuts, the way the software responds, etc.). Whatever you plug into it (external hard drive, monitor, almost any USB device) it "just works." No setup hassle.

Apple has just thought out everything so much better from the user's standpoint. For the first time in 31 years of computing, I feel like I am controlling my computing environment, not the other way around.

    An absolute dream.

hmmm what you say is correct...worked in an Apple store between jobs once and even back then far superior to anything in the PC line especially for multimedia apps.

The reason is that the macs OS and applications are integral or so my on line training course 101 taught me smile.png

Any problems converting/moving over PC files? Used to sell a cumbersome emulator for PC apps is that still necessary...?

  3. Have you thought of going to a uni or tech college and find a student or with the architectural ,CAD and engineering skills?

I was lucky /unlucky enough to find a guy through the local boonies builder....great job and just from my fag packet drawing. Think it cost about 4000bt. Final design a lot better aesthetically and better layout than my concrete box hen scratching.

'Course once we started building I changed lotsa stuff on the fly with builders....ain't fell down yetsmile.png

  4. Okay so i have this 5 year old toshiba laptop. its basically messed up. The computer does turn on it just doesn't start up. from my opinion it has problem with the cpu or the graphic card. but anyways what i need to know is are there any places i can sell internal hardwares in this laptop. no one would buy the laptop itself, thats for sure. right now i want to sell the hardware like the RAM and the motherboard perhaps. About how much can i get for it and where can i sell them

    Thanks in advance

let someone have a look at it.... might only be the motherboard.... that happened to mine.. 6000 THB for new m board after worked like new.... might even work out less than that

Sent from my GT-N7000 using Thaivisa Connect Thailand mobile app

good advice..same symptoms on my old Aspire ....cost exactly the same for new motherboard too.

Actually initially solved the problem by removing the battery but then it gave up completely...

In retrospect probably should have bought a new laptop as similar spec was about 12k baht...

  5. did a lot of googling about this years back......suggest you do the same but I never found anything worthwhile......Australian web sites mostly.....what may deter some snakes may not work for all....

lots of old wives solutions ..guess it's worth a try.

Most snakes do a runner in your presence....... but if surprised or stepped on.......

FIL was bitten and died at our farm while house sitting.

Had a couple of dogs killed too.

Had an approx 2 metre green tree snake drop on my head in our old shed ......slid down my back and disappeared.

It IS a jungle out there..take care!!!

Seems the only real option is vigilance ......

  6. never understood that in the office where i worked everyone have to wear a jumper and scarf as the air con temperature was around 15 degrees while outside was 35. simply no logic

seems that is standard practice worldwide......

on the Thai front .....BIL has his truck air on super cold the same way.........frickin freezes my arse off..he sits in a tank top..go figure...

  7. Very sad to see the sanctimonious expats declaiming about Thais not reading.....

I commuted for a few years into London and of course everybody read the Times, did the crossword or read Conrad, Wells and Shakespeare..give us a break!!!!!!

Me? Always bought the Times..not to read..to cover up the evidence of my fantasies about the 4 school uniformed teenies that always got in my compartment...lol

  8. If it’s clearly marked on your UK license what type of vehicles you are allowed to operate, you should be OK without an IDP.

Reason they want to see an IDP is that it’s very clear what you’re licensed to drive, it’s not a requirement.

Additionally, if they won’t accept your UK license for a conversion, then you can always take the tests, they are quite easy here. wink.png

Used my 20 yo UK license and an agent a few years back ...no worries

  9. Lots of good stuff to see and do..recommend you get the city tourist map at tourist centre near arrivals at LCCT.

Train is the cheapest option from LCCT airport to downtown. ....

    As far as I know...

Train does not yet go to LCCT. You can get a bus to the last commuter station on the Airport Rail Link, and then train from there (integrated ticket and feeder bus service, so not as troublesome as it sounds) but cheaper and slightly less hassle to use the direct bus - several companies operate from adjacent bus stations, running frequently to KL Sentral (same as the train) and limited service to other destinations.

The Airport Rail Link currently only serves the KLIA main terminal, though it is planned to be extended to LCCT. Doubt many people would use it, though, as if they were willing to pay RM35 to get to the airport, they'd not be flying Air Asia. I'm told the ARL is looking a bit tired, and has deteriorated from Outstanding! to Excellent, but still very reliable and relaxing.

Bukit Bintang - KLCC is a good walk, but the high kerbs will keep you fit. You could stop off at the Thai Club or Rum Jungle for a little light refreshment on the way,..

yup thinking about that also...cannot remember how I got to the rail..maybe by bus? Anyways think I maybe took bus last time....

  10. Lots of good stuff to see and do..recommend you get the city tourist map at tourist centre near arrivals at LCCT.

Train is the cheapest option from LCCT airport to downtown. Never had a problem with taxis but now use rail everyplace quick and cheap as chips....bit hard for me to negotiate sometimes..easy to get on the wrong frickin train !

China town area is a real interesting area.... market, museums , etc...across the river is the park and flower gardens...all nice and all on foot.

I stay at the Mountbatten boutique type hotel near China town...next to monorail think it is about 1200bt /night.

  11. Curious? What is the application?

Is it for control from two locations ie like upstairs/downstairs or double entry room? These only require DPST ie a change over. Available most electrics shops.

I guess if you needed more than two control points you could maybe gang two DPSTs together with a neat bit of lexan glued on ?...would take a bit hen scratching to wire them though. Something Crossy could lay out for you methinks...lol

Another option would be to use a mini relay ...yuk getting real messy....hugh!

    Good luck

  12. My view is that all humans are racist. Everywhere. It's a matter of degree and severity and harm done, if any. I think we are hard wired for racism as a species. So the answer: simply yes.

Yes there it plenty of overt racist expression here but I would say the majority of communication here is not overtly racist and the average/typical level of racism of foreigners in Thailand regarding Thai people is moderate and not very toxic.

Foreigners aren't necessarily living in Thailand because they are especially fond of Thai people in general. Is that an immigration requirement?

right on mate...think this crap about criticism of others who happen to be of a different nationality being termed racism is just a part of the new world order....utter rubbish..propagated by a hypocritical world.

Don't hear of racism being chanted when we take the piss, or use derogatory/discriminating terms toward Scots,Welsh, Irish,POMEs, Aussies,Kiwis... yadda yadda .

..... some of my best friends are #%^ Gay, Jewish, POME, Asian ,<deleted> and even German!.... Naaaah not really.......cheesy.gif

  13. If you are now or expect to receive any pension from the Canadian government...?

Thailand is now on the list for direct deposit.

Part of the form needs to be filled in,or atleast signed and stamped by your bank in Thailand.

Found Bank of Ayudhya would not sign .......so went to Gov Savings Bank..excellent service and helpful even with no English!

Happy happy..gonna save a few litres of diesel...dunno about the exchange rate though?

  14. Just a heads up ...

Trying to book flights through my Aussie on line agent and the above software prevented same..returned error 400..BAD URL

Took a while to find problem.......Turned it off for that site no worries...smile.png

  15. A good LPG installation is no more dangerous than a car running on petrol. Considering there are millions of petrol powered cars.....how often do you hear of one blowing up?

Guess you never heard of a Ford Pinto hugh...lol

Your right of course....explosions are igniting vapour not the liquid..the strength of the tanks is not usually the issue it's fuel lines, fittings etc, hence if poor installation greater the risk ba boom methinks..

Wondering ....is it standard to provide a drain hole under the tank in the trunk on LPG cars .....other open air /engine compartment leaks would disperse pretty quickly?

Think I would stay with diesel or gasoline....

  16. okay the horse has already bolted but....have to say there is no absolute solution though..it is moldy in the humid tropics!!

An easy way to reduce the chance of mildew is something that many boat owners know......leave a 100w incandescent light bulb on. You can get sophisticated and create a convection airflow by hanging/mounting inside an upright tube like a big coffee can or similar.

There are dehumidifier chemical crystal solutions but expensive and single use only a well as being extremely messy.

If you have aircon/dehumidifier perhaps an ordinary timer might be the answer? Not sure if this would work on electronic controlled units as may reset without power.?

Bedding and clothing, are as already stated, best in big zip lock bags, vacuum or kayaking type waterproof bags . Wash first ...soiled clothing etc is a mold magnet.

Having said all that .......is there a sure way to remove mold from doonas......kid left one in spin dryer for a few days ..forgot about it till muggins here found it......Tried bleach, toilet cleaner etc with limited success. Googling now...lol

  17. An ebook forum I think would be a great idea David, not only for recommended titles and where to find them, but also to warn other readers on paying high cost for ebook's that only contain about 80 or so pages of information and give you the feeling you've just read an info sheet rather than an ebook as I learnt only last week

thx guys..Admin still embalming themselves in booze??..lol.

Give it a week ......we are off to R& R in Phuket now it has stopped frickin raining...and I an get stuff via mates WLAN..

    enjoy the holidays guys...
