  1. Have to say, being a bit of let nature help. I have found that wild jungle honey seems to clean up and aid the recovery of cuts faster than the other creams and pills. Jim

555 tried that too ...wild honey is supposed to be good for lots of things both topical and internal...heard about it first in Oz for white tail spider bites....too messy and an attractor of ants etc.topically so have to ingest as a chaser to a whiskey or two.

When first got the infection also tried all the MIL,rellies etc recommended poultices ..salads of all sorts including coconut oil and veggies from the jungle........what a mess!!.... still can't get the stains out of the bedclothes.....

  2. Well I am impressed gourmet hamburgers, imported beef...whatever the recipe home made burgers are so much better are they not.....don't forget the fried egg.dill pickle and beetroot..making me hungry.....lol

.... question...fried on the barbie or on a grill.....what do you use as a glue..egg?...mine tend to stick /fall apart and through grills....also when bite into 'em end up with a mouth full of soggy and the contents on me lap or plate and end up eating with a fork...........think somebody would have come up with a burger bun like a pita...

Makes ya laugh when you get a good burger in a restaurant and it turns up held together with tooth picks and 5 cm higher than your open jaws....always wondered if the cooks have a spy window ..."hey watch this guy spray it over the table"....

A good burger will require 5 napkins minimum.

  4. There have been some good replies to this topic, very interesting. It is my birthday and the wife has bought me a bottle of whiskey and I am drunk. Tomorrow I will tell the story of the NGO who built a fish pond out this way. Jim

Hey Buddy Why don,t you go over and see how the Charcoal Makers live in your Issan Idyll.cheesy.gif

Don't follow, we make charcoal at the back of the house, as do many of the neighbors. Something bad about charcoal making. Jim

Not much Money making Charcoal Jim, Perhaps as an Exercise, you could pop along to the Charcoal Makers, and see their Wirlie with its cross flow ventilation. (who needs Aircon) and Wonder how many People are all sharing one clapped out Bike, (Helping the Enviroment). The Water Resevoir, down east of the Korat Railway Station not so far from town should open your Heart ,

Not sure what your point is? Have you thought about the value add of speculators , banks ,middle men et al all exploiting people and the environment.?......lots of money maybe but without the the people that actually produce the necessities of life on a daily basis many of us would die off by natural selection........maybe one day.....then hopefully all rich and famous hypercritics can all go sit on a cloud and die of boredom.whistling.gif

  5. Think the op was asking about comfort? To me that is leg /headroom and seating etc.. Was driving SILs newish Vigo ..very quiet and comfortable except after 6 hours on and off driving my lower back started to ache.( more so than my old B2500?), looked for lumber adjustment..nada....a cushion worked though.

The BT50 has a lumber adjustment I noticed...they are a worthwhile comfort methinks ..had one in my ancient Jackaroo.

All the bells and whistles on new vehicles are nice to haves of course. Thumping out "Copper Head Road" or Vietnam era stuff on a longish solo road trip keeps one awake!

Definitely gonna get GPS on next truck ..methinks a comfort aid inasmuch as blood pressure and marital bliss is maintained.....tongue.png

  6. shiiiit .......how come nobody posted this thread before...goodonya mate!!!

Me..well arrived in pissing rain after fighting off a fishing guy who wanted cash for me running over his lines ..caught under rudder ....my crew dove over and freed it without damage......

Stepped ashore in Phuket at Yacht Haven marina at about 8am and had a big plate of spicy noodles and several beers at "mammas " wonderful first day..showered with a hose on the deck ..went off to Patong in a rented wreck...well everybody knows the rest.yadda yadda.....lol

  7. absolutely no empathy here......ok we come to Thailand and oliver sudden ,(unless unfortunately we are cripple/sick and have no use of our arms or legs) we think we should have a "gardener"..then we complain because the 300bt we pay does not give us an "Adam".

    Fricking colonial Raj wannabees??

Know a guy who bemoans and bitches about the price and quality of a gardener but thinks nothing of spending thousands on a Koi fish pond......

A good brush cutter is what... about 9k? .....20 sq metres will take 20 minutes+-....a pair of secateurs is a bout 200bt ....come on you guys ..get off your arse or please stop whining..!!! Sorry tis is not 19th century Malaya or Indiathumbsup.gif

my old mum in Canada pays a student 20 bucks an hour to weed!!!

  8. like many have bought e-readers..( cheapy tablets in my case)

So for me to get free .pdf downloads of classics is great.

For the wife there seems to be nothing out there that is free...can buy downloads at what seem to me as non viable prices

( 200-300 bt)..we visit used book stores and buy paper at say 1-300 bt and get a portion back when we revisit and buy more....the wife likes to possess books so often have to buy more bookcases ...lol .

So methinks it will be a while before Thai e books are economically viable vs paper.

    just my musings...smile.png

  9. I have a NEX ( NEX.com?) which does well for an e reader...non phone/sim unit is about 3900bt with sim 599bt.?... bought the sim version but in retrospect should have bought the non sim as don't use it....( still has WiFi so could have bought a WiFi box with sim for 1200 bt)

  10. I recommend you get yourself a small tube of "Fucidin". About 120B & will last you all year.

It is a topical antibiotic containing fucidic acid.

I put it on all wounds as soon as I've washed them.

I've never had a wound get infected after I've put this stuff on.

& its cleared up a couple of infections that had already set in.

Maybe a good idea to get a tetanus booster shot to.

Using Banocin powder......seems pretty effective along with Roxi Thromicin ( third type I have been using)...anti biotics...always a problem with anti biotics is the fact that the infections don't always respond as we tend to use too many of 'em.......how to do as the Thais say.....suck and see seems the way to go...

Also fungal infections in tropics are an issue lots of anti fungal creams out there which are effective along with the soaps such as Dettol etc which must be beneficial as anti bacterials...such is life in the tropicssmile.png

  11. have same thing (sort of like a weeping boil or ulcer) on arms and leg...seem to initiate from mosquito bites /open wound. Topical antibiotic powder and oral antibiotics seem to work but been two months now and just got a new one..at site of mozzie bite!

I was wondering if some insect like mossie or... is carrying something coupled with all the fricking rain and being continually damp.

Firstly got a huge painful one on my leg after sweeping out an old shed with loads of mouse/rat droppings.

Sort of like an Aussie white tail spider bite....or salt water boil.?

As soon as it stops raining gotta get off the farm for a week or so!!!

  12. The advent of this new technology has the potential to bridge the digital divide between sections of society and support development that will upgrade the living conditions of people.

    ????

Wonder what that means? Although I would think that Thailand has one of the most inexpensive tariffs in the world...how does bandwidth put rice in the bowl? Same same computerized vehicles equals road safety no doubt.....sad.png

  13. Did the surprise three night ,honeymoon suite, 5 star resort thing a few years back....wife just wanted to eat street food with her friends in our friend's bar/restaurant......."very expensive for free fruit bowl and a few orchids on the bed".....AAAAH!

Oh well...... a bottle or two of good wine , tacky chairs and tables on a beach watching a sunset, grazing on oysters and whatnot is the way to go now......

  14. Sorry but what is a tourist policeman..? What do they police? Tourists.? What is their job description?

Are they currently unable to converse with tourists ?

What do they do all day?

Sounds like Thai tourist police may be a redundant sort of boondoggle job?

Better to have a tourist centre staffed by pretty girls ...most have good English skills .....could have a tourist emergency number...1 900 XXXX

Most regular police in tourist areas seem to speak pretty good English......even our local village has a few English speakers

  15. Actually he has a point..the world does go round powered by nepotism, back handers, expensive boondoggles, business lunches, sweeteners, donations, promotions, lobby funding...even flattery/sucking up?....AKA corruption or is it just politics??..... yadda yadda.

Not sure that the article has any value add though...... possibly the author got/keeps his job through suspect qualifications and nepotism...lol

Nepotism started with big G methinks........I heard even JC provided food so the plebs would listen...lol

1000 bt I love you long time handsum man.....
