There isn't much information on longer-term hotels and google reviews aren't so reliable so I was hoping someday here would have some personal experience they could share. I know some of the forum members have stayed for long periods in hotels in Pattaya. But thanks anyway.

Skype is free. I make maybe 4 or 5 calls to the US a year, just to my bank and brokerage. It's hardly worth it to pay a monthly fee and set up dual sims. I might as well just use WiFi calling. Skype was very convenient for that purpose, however, which is why many of us are looking for a similar alternative.

I know that the Nortin VIP authenticator can be installed on your laptop, which at one time was the only one Fidelity allowed you to use. The others -- Microsoft, Google, etc. -- seem to be focused on the phones. When I talked to Fidelity they said they recommended putting it on the phone. I have heard horror stories though about people who have lost their phone and gotten locked out of all their accounts. Maybe I'm too old for tech of this nature.

I've avoided the Fidelity app because I don't want important stuff on my phone but Fidelity really pushes you in that direction. My main worry is that Google Voice might someday go the way of Skype. If that happened, I guess I would have to bite the bullet and install an authenticator, which I've avoided doing because if you lose your phone your lose access to your accounts. At least that's the way it seems to me.

I haven't tried making voice calls though I have received them. I have friends who live abroad and they've used Google voice for years with no problem. I, on the other hand had one of my gmail accounts locked out of Google voice permanently for trying to open a GV account from abroad. I had to set up a new Gmail account for the transfer. That worked.

That's not correct. The person transfers their google number to your google account. You don't need a mobile number for that. I did it last year. My sister transferred her google number to me. I got a notification from google and that was all that was required. The two stipulations are that each person can only have one google number and the person transferring the number can't apply for a new number for 90 days.

you can't set up google voice in Thailand but you can have someone transfer you a google voice number, if you can find someone in the US willing to do that.

I read that Skype will extend the service for people who have money in it but I don't know how long that will be for. I believe Microsoft Teams is more for organizations than individuals. And the organization has to have a callling plan. But I've never used it myself so I'm not sure of the details.

So what's the best alternative to Skype for making toll-fee calls to the U.S.? Any suggestions?
