  1. My guess it will play out like here in Colombia. If here for over a certain amount of time you pay tax period. That includes any pension. And the tax rates are much more than in the US. Most guys here with assets stay the minimum time allowed then either move to another country until the clock resets or they hire a tax attorney to do their taxes. Basically it has stopped all wealthy or even anyone with a decent retirement income to consider retiring here full time. If Thailand cracks down on it, and I believe they will. They will only allow you to have a retirement extension with a proof of tax filing in your home country. Thailand is set up for it now. No expat will escape it. Over here in Colombia they give permanent residence and you don't have to go to immigration again. But, they require you to submit a W-2 or what ever each year. Even if you don't file because you don't make enough to file in your home country. It is required that you now have to file and show proof of income. The problem for you guys in Thailand is that you have to go in for a yearly extension. So there will be no escaping it. And no way to just wait until you are flagged for not filing a tax return like here in Colombia. Here it is under funded and many slip threw. In Thailand it is a done deal with the yearly extension. Basically you guys are scre$ed.
  2. Just goes to show you how much nonsense the US company will endure for cheap labor.
  3. Strictly a show, I knew of many Thai parents that would put up the sin sod just for show. Since the couple did not have any money. It's just like anywhere else. If you have money you don't have to flaunt it. It's when you don't have money is when you flaunt it. Doesn't make sense does it. I actually agree with a poster above. The parents probably expect that 1 million is all this kid could come up with even with borrowing. They are just getting all they can. If he were rich they would not care what so ever.
  4. I lived in Issan for over 15 years. The young Thai guys laugh their asses off at this. I have seen some really nice and sincere Thai couples postpone their wedding because of lack of funds. But, never because of lack of sin sod. Saw a few upper Thai's marry and show sin sod. But, it was given back to them as soon as the wedding was over. Mainly a forgone custom and a way to have a old traditional wedding. If the parents are insisting on it? I personally would run..
  5. In Thailand , unless you are a tourist that is luxury Personally I would of taken the 100K
  6. Intel awards this year... BRINL – Braille Interactive Learning (Thailand), Teerapat Sardsud, Roryon Wannapraserd, Phachara Phuansup: A solution that utilizes AI to improve Braille learning for visually impaired individuals, promoting Braille literacy and empowering users with the ability to access information. Congratulations and keep up the good work...
  7. Didn't know this was still a thing in Thailand.. I knew a guy about 20 years ago that did this. I was invited to the wedding. Great time, but the mother in law was a complete tool. Guy seemed happy to dish out millions of Baht. I asked the guy that owned the hall where the reception was held in Pattaya. He just chuckled and said these guys were a dime a dozen and their retirement money was pouring threw their hands so fast they would be back in their home country without a dime in a few months.. Really it is a joke in this day and time. With all the stats and books on the subject! Amazing guys still fall for this scam.
  8. Wonder what his ex wife looked like..
  9. Rice is a very fertilizer intensive crop, I bet with the fertilizer crises coming he is trying to make sure they can feed Thailand not patrol the seas in a sub with no engine.
  10. I thought I read in a recent post the Thai's had decided to go with the Chinese motor? Wonder what is going on now.
  11. Wish it would increase against the Mexican Peso... uggggg. My favorite place to spend the winter is now to expensive and many are leaving. Dam% China, if they would have been happy with just getting rich and not wanting to rule the world then the factory's would not have started moving. Now the construction and huge boom in re-shoring is making the Mexicans rich and the dollar is taking a huge beating.. Mexico is the next China, and it is getting very expensive... Luckily it hasn't hit South America YET... But, it is coming. I may have to eat my words and come back to SE Asia once China decoupling drives the cost up to much here in the west.
  12. Be interesting to know how many millions of dollars this cost him to come home. Or billions.
  13. Looks to be an orchestrated military coup. Put in place after the original military took over. Honestly I see no difference. Kinda like Xi taking the rings for life. The military set this in motion years ago. And like Xi, they will rule for ever. And like China, looks like they will now start to heavily censor the internet, starting with Facebook, just like China. The writing has been on the wall for a long time. They will start whipping up anti western campaigns and it will get so bad for retiree's they will basically have to leave. In the next 10 years basically no westerners living there full time.
  14. Should read, Thailand top destination for "Horney single digital nomads"
  15. At this blistering pace he will be a free man this time next week.
  16. 10-1 Facebook will be banned in Thailand soon.
  17. Personally I cannot stand people , countries, companies that are constantly trying to find ways to rip people off. I agree with the poster above. Mostly for the rich Chinese trying to get out of China, or criminals. If there is a way to rip you off Thailand will figure out a way. Just another reason not to spend a dime more than you have to in Thailand if you want to go.
  18. His prison cell will have a revolving door... and 24 hour catering service.
  19. You are not just drinking the tea you are gulping it down... haha
  20. Ok, Xi. We got the westerners out whatelse can we do for you.. Don't think they are going to give us the fighter jets though. Sorry about that Xi. We will see what we can get out of the US next meeting.. We will try and get advanced chips for you and you can slide in under our trade deal with the US.. It is coming together Xi.. Won't be long before those dirty westerners will be under our thumb... Pinky swear Xi.
  21. This guy doesn't even try to hide the fact all this was pre-approved before he arrived. You would have thought they would of quietly put him in a 5 star cell for a month or so before all this.
  22. Exactly, Thailand is ridiculous and then they complain about tourists levels dropping. I am in Colombia where people go to the US all the time. The guy renting a room next to me said he went to the US and worked for 5 years on a 6 month visa... hahaha... No problems what so ever. Times are defiantly changing no one wants to put up with Thai immigration. You would have to be daft to even think about it this day and time. Here if I want to stay more than 3 months I go online fill out the forms and a copy of my financial solvancy. I am so spoiled that I don't even consider Thailand anymore. Actually I look at Thailand as more a communist dictatorship as far as their visa laws are concerned.
  23. Agree, Have some Thai neighbors here. they go back to visit relatives. But cannot wait to get out of there.
  24. Definitely the joke of the day!
