  1. I was at the airport in my home town fixing to fly to Mexico for a few days when a lady showed up... First thing out of her mouth was I have medical Marijuana with me. Baggage handler didn't even look up. Bags picked up and walked through. Like absoutly nothing. So it is easy to get threw the airport .. And they had not interest in seeing the weed or the proof it was medical. I was floored..
  2. Funny, The very first time there when I left the school teacher insisted on taking me to the airport. She knew I had just went to the ATM. As I was saying goodbye she said you won't be able to spend the Baht in the US. With puppy dog and I love you eyes.. After giving her the money I knew what was up. hahaha... Thailand has been learning how to fleece the farang, for so may decades it is second nature.
  3. Just another punter trying to make a buck. Just learn to say NO and spend less than you make and you will be fine. I lived there for over 10 years and saved more than I had when I arrived. And for goodness sakes learn to cut and run when you need to. Thailand always wanted your dollars, but when the government got involved it went to a whole new level. From a cheap second rated retirement destination , to an expensive second rate retirement destination = a very poor retirement destination. Anyone retiring there now from the West now is not doing their homework.
  4. How many times have I heard this. They have no option but to try, but it is too late. The past policies have ruined Thailand for quality tourists and expats. Day late and a dollar short.
  5. No sweat, China will loan the money for them. Build them. Politicians in Thailand will relocate to a safe country to spend their wealth. Win win situation.
  6. Thailand has learned from China, make a deal then ignore it. The US at this point will see right through this. Bye bye Thailand. Good ridden.
  7. There is a sucker born every minute. Just goes to show you how warped the internet is and the influence it has.
  8. Finally! Long overdue. The remaining US expats will see more and more hate in Thailand. Tax laws will get more stringent trying to make up and punish Westerners. Locals will get more hostile towards westerners. There is just no way out at this point.
  9. I don't know much about drugs but I used to go birding in Pai, And I knew locals there. It was a huge scam.
  10. Nice to see Thailand has turned the corner and is only attracting family's . For wholesome family vacations. Mom Dad, I am going out sight seeing.. Ok son, make sure you wrap it up. Thanks dad I will.. Love you.
  11. Haha, "Land of Scams". Pattaya has always been class "A" rip off. Nothing new here.
  12. When I lived there I put the son of my girlfriend threw Software engineering. After 4 years he could not pass the test, not even close. His mom paid the teacher off to pass him. And guess what bank he went to work for? Yup you are right.
  13. Enjoyed Thailand for many years, glad I got out when I did..
  14. Hit them with the 36%. Anything that has made in Thailand I put back on the shelf or don't order it. Let them cry to China... Thailand, to Xi. The US wants a fair trade agreement. Xi, yeah same here, We will loan you money for some construction projects...
  15. I'm in the US at present and paying the extra Tariff's . Fine with me. 36% would be about right for Thailand. Let China make up the difference,
  16. About time the US started taking action. Hit them with all that can be tolerated...
  17. Elmer, last name Fudd! Only in the paradise of Thailand.
  18. I think the only westerners still there are the ones that married a Thai, or built a house and spent their savings. Best thing that happened to me was Thailand making it harder for me. I got out of my comfort zone and started exploring other places. Now, there is no way I would ever go back to live.
  19. Haven't been to Vietnam in a few years, need to check it out again. When my embassy stopped the income verification and Thailand would not consider another option than to put money in the bank. I knew it was time to vacate. Not because of the money really, several things. The horrible air pollution and constant worrying about the paperwork. I finally settled on Sout America. I do not regret my decision at all. And wish I would have done it years ago. More expensive , drop dead nature (love that). Women are not easy at allll. But, it is to my liking, very affectionate. I only stay 6 months a year, but it is hassle free, no paperwork except one extension by internet. 36 dollars. I can breath the air, have ultra modern accommodations. Rip offs are as bad as Thailand, but that goes with the territory of living an expat life. As a US citizen, I am only a few hours out and the time zone is the same. I did not realize how much of a benefit that was. But, it is very very nice for me.
  20. Expensive traffic violation.. Missed flight, taken down town to be processed. Wow. Must of been a hell of a violation.
  21. Pattaya has come full circle. Now just a clown show.
  22. I always wonder what Thailand is ? By the looks of it, it is a Socialist country trying to portray itself as democratic. What ever it is it is not working.
  23. Swayed by cheap living, great weather and all smiles . Then reality sets in.
