When I was there they had agents that would let you completely circumvent the 800K bank account. I had a friend that had been living there for years that had to borrow money to pay the agent... haha..

I personally like to stay 180 days out of the USA each year and enjoy myself. I used to come to Thailand and had a retirement visa there for years. Since I am from the US South America got to be my favorite place for now. I roll into Colombia and ask for 90 days when I arrive with no hassles, just last week I requested a 90 day extension strictly by internet and got it in 5 days. 45 dollars. I personally got fed up with all the rules and nonsense I had to go through. Even with a retirement visa I found it a pain... Personally I would never go back to that. I have thought about the Philippines . But, never Thailand again. Or any of those countries around there.

Four men beating another guy to death with iron bars. Yeah... I would be saying he had a knife also. And making up all kind of stories to keep from going to jail for life. Personally I would not trust the media or the Thai's for a straight story like this.

I was living in Thailand for years before I ever even visited Pattaya. After a couple of hours I was ready to leave. I much preferred the far north. I got spoiled luckily early on. Kinda curious if all those places still in the north after over 20 years. Think I will do a nostalgic trek, just for grins.

I live there and fully intend to stay and spend my money, then they changed the rules to not just proving you had the funds but putting it in a Thai bank, That along with the outrageous paperwork and rules you have to follow was the last straw. Land of ever changing goal posts. Yea, a place I want to spend my golden years...

I left after a few years there, my lungs could not take the pollution any longer. I was never so miserable in my life.

Not sure why it fell, last time we put it up ,we didn't put all those bolts in it and it was just fine..

Good learning experience. It will toughen you up a bit.

I feel for anyone living in those conditions, I tried it for a while. Without a doubt the most miserable time of my life.

Wish I would have know that at the time. I was down in southern Thailand doing some birding. The guy at the immigration office acted as if he had never seen or knew what to do with a foreigner.. Strangest place I have ever seen, I got there and he was out running errands. I asked him about the 90 day report, and he threatened to call the police when I would not leave and asked why no 90 day report.. loco... Had a similar problem in Hat Yai..

Always been my view, just reciprocate. How ever many people became citizens of Thailand, let that many Thai's get visa's.. Easy peasy.

I was almost thrown in jail because I was traveling when my 90 day report came due. I went to the local immigration office and they would not accept the 90 day report. I finally had to fly back to CM where my one year extension was from. Don't miss Thailand for one minute.

Well this just happened and everyone was happy until today. The news was very positive supporting the removal of Maduro. Anti-American propaganda? Lots of News about the USA and some not very nice. Colombia is fragmented, kinda like southern Thailand. There are places you just don't want to go here because of the narco's and bad guys. I have not had any problems, but I am going to keep a low profile until I know how this is going to play out. I don't think where I am the people will get hostile against the US expats. My problem is more with the government. If they get pissy I will head out. Luckily I keep a place in the states.. Trump is really stirring the pot.

A quick update, since I am in Colombia. Petro is pissed, and not happy with the situation at all. Yesterday all the news agencies were happy today the tone has changed. Kinda of suspicious. They are running non stop propaganda today. I may go back home to the USA until this blows over.

I know that guy, one of the best birders in the world, hands down. I birded Thailand and SE Asia for about 10 years. He has been guiding in Thailand for as long as I can remember. Along with many others , mostly British, Swedish. bird guides. He never kept it a secrete, and all the others are operating in the open also. He is (or was) one of the most famous in Thailand. Big international birding tours organized by foreigners would hire him. Looks like the end of the line for him as a guid in Thailand.

Thankfully the US has started doing the same. And making it harder for Thai's to get into the US.. Finally.

And the next scam is being hatched.. Can't wait for this one to unfold.

Also no more dual citizenships. Although in Thailand a foreigner I more likely to get struck by lightning than get citizenships. Ups Federal park fees for foreigners by 100 dollars plus regular entrance fees. Start heavy tariffs on Thailand. As for me I am going to start writing my congressman for a reduction of SS funds and a percentage / year until half is clawed back for all US citizens who stay out of the US more than a year.. As SS is depleted that will be right around the corner.. Finally the tide is changing. Tit for tat.

And in the best new I have heard in years. The Federal government will hike entrance fees for not nationals to the fee plus 100 dollars for all foreigners.. It is a start.

Thailand is a joke.

Foreign journalist in SE Asia is not a profession I would want. Especially if honest, that is the kiss of death.
