  1. Pattaya police suggested the victim to get a good recovery and come to them if she intended to press legal action against her boyfriend. Police did not immediately press charges on their own. I do not understand how charges cannot be immediately pressed by the police and prosecution. This is an offence which should be pursued with the public interest in mind. Delaying prosecution gives him a window of opportunity for flight and impunity.
  2. I hope he wins in 2024. A far more capable and respected president than the current one. Senility has no place in the White House.
  3. Here's wishing you health and strength for the years and decades to come. An invaluable and irreplaceable source of advice and information.
  4. So sad. A month before his body was discovered and just 1 km from a hospital makes it even more tragic.
  5. Hmmmm I see some bahts with red fasteners there but not mentioned in the inventory. Probably because those were the only genuine notes and someone had other intentions other than keeping them for evidence.
  6. Move. Not worth the stress and drama. About a decade or so ago, I checked out of a hotel in Sukhumvit around 3 AM (flight leaves at 7) and the receptionist was a ladyboy. Night shift so he was all by himself. He was on his phone chatting with someone and happily ignoring me but he very well knew I was there. So I pressed that bell thing on the counter and boom he went nuclear like an ex on that unstoppable destructive mission for revenge. I can still vaguely remember the ensuing scene. He looked like a cornered wild animal. Yep, move.
  7. I'm speechless. So quiet one could hear a pin drop after reading this sad tale of unparalleled naivete and gullibility. That... or this was a well-planned act by the daughter for an early inheritance.
  8. Thank you. Would it make it easier and less complicated to use the service of, say, Siam Legal or a similar agent to sort it all out?
  9. Asking on behalf of a friend (from the UK). He left Thailand before the pandemic. He now plans to return in Feb 2023. In 2021 he changed his name by deed poll and his passport name now reflects that new name (his UK driving licence too). He still has two Thai accounts with a rather substantial amount of money in Phuket. The name on those accounts is his former name. What is the process of having the name on a Thai account changed based on a passport with a new name? Can he go to the bank with both passports (previous one but expired and current valid one with the new name) and show that they belong to one and the same person? On another but identical matter, would it be less complicated to simply go through the entire process of retaking the tests for a new Thai driving licence? Or can he renew his now expired Thai driving licence and, again, present the previous and current passports to adjust the name on the DLT's system?
  10. On the topic of baldness, I am considering hair transplant surgery (ARTAS FUE robotic transplant method) here in Thailand. Cost quoted was US$3 per transplanted graft with a target of 3.5k grafts. Wondering if those performing the procedure here are just as good as those in Hungary or Türkiye.
  11. This is going to cause an excruciatingly large outflow of Geld from his account to many beneficiaries. With complicit damage appraisers, there will be plenty for everybody.
  12. I see. So no apology + fat compensation to avert a PR disaster? Was hoping to read about a happy end with smiles and wais.
  13. I would love to see an update/sequel/part 2 That part about "the bank contacted them and said their officials would be coming in to clarify the facts at 2 p.m. tomorrow"
  14. If one uses their service to open a bank account, what address is used for the account's records? Is it Siam Legal's or is it a fictitious one? And just to be sure, no statements or replacement cards or sensitive account-related documents are ever sent to the address? Thanks again.
  15. Can anyone confirm that, if using an agent's services (such as those of Siam Legal), there is a reasonably high chance of success in opening an account with either Kasikorn or Bangkok Bank? I know someone who is here on a tourist visa and he tried to open an account in vain. EU-country passport, winter visits only, sole intention is to park some cash for future visits. Thank you.
  16. If I had to hazard a guess, I'd be inclined to think it's more about a powerful flow of cash from one account to another that did the swaying work.
  17. Take it to Singapore. I brought my IWC there and they sent it to Switzerland. Clinically professional service from start to end.
  18. Will "make" my first one this year. Having no siblings, it's also about that proverbial preservation and survival of one's surname and lineage.
  19. I wasted mine by not having kids. 41 now and i wish i could travel back in time to correct this. I have friends and their kids are about to go to university. This must be one of the most satisfying experiences ever. So jealous of them. Yes i have money but what's the use of hoarding it in the absence of a family and loved ones who are of greater value than any amount of material wealth. Thinking of having kids at this age asap or adopting.
  20. Not sure how effective such a strategy would be in light of them being very easily identifiable in Thailand and the extent of exposure generated by local and international media. If safety is indeed at grave risk, best way forward would be to consider applying for a change of name in Russia. Google says it's possible to do this by deed poll. Certainly they can afford it. Alternative is to lead a covert life, live less ostentatiously, and brag/flaunt less.
  21. Sorry, just noticed this but same thing. For Slovakia, Slovenia and other EU countries, the rules are uniform. You will need to be a resident or citizen of a member state.
  22. Conditions for sponsors Sponsors must live in the Schengen member country for which the visitor visa is sought For Slovakia, sponsors must have a Slovak ID (Občiansky Preukaz) Sponsors must earn the minimum wage gross income Couples acting as sponsors must jointly earn the minimum wage You must also complete a proof of sponsorship and/or private accommodation form Schengen visa rules are uniform so you can expect identical sponsorship requirements EU-wide. If you are accepted as a sponsor, you will be required to submit certain guarantees that must be properly attested to by a notary public. Consequences of the visa holder failing to abide by the visa's conditions or absconding after the visa lapses would be financially testing for you. Among them are the cost of repatriation of the visa holder (if located) and blacklisting your particulars which effectively prevents you from ever sponsoring another third country national for a Schengen visa. In the event of the visa holder "vanishing" in Slovakia or anywhere in the EU, authorities will first focus on you, the sponsor, and will assume your involvement in the disappearance.
