  1. Perhaps because the link to the DM article itself is quoted here? Maybe that's why. Even the DM link mentions their ages, come to think of it. Why won't it suffice to write it without their ages: /... British-pensioner-partner-killed-horror-car-crash-Thailand.html Sensationalising the age gap by highlighting their ages seems to be the DM writer's agenda.
  2. I love how their ages are mentioned countless times by the DM. Can't miss the subtle hints.
  3. I used DHL for documents I sent to Germany in the past. Flawless service. Do not use USPS. I used it once... took ages to arrive. Dummkopf me didn't learn from that first time and used it again... delayed forever and almost missed a deadline for submitting important documents. They have a habit of holding shipments at Shenzhen and Changi for god knows how long. Calling their CS will test the limits of one's patience.
  4. I hope the perpetrators are eventually caught and prosecuted. Unlike property offences, a person's life is irreplaceable and no amount of financial reparation or restorative efforts can correct the wrong done, the loss caused and the pain inflicted. Ending a life and enjoying impunity is one of the worst injustices.
  5. Overstaying... don't do it. The prospect of spending time behind bars, being fined and eventually deported is depressing enough. On top of that, there's that bonus of being on the news and one's LinkedIn being spied at and, if you forgot to edit out the juicy tidbits before the arrest, exposed here by yours truly. Spending time behind bars during the holidays with family half a world away and consular staff more concerned about their facebook updates and twitter feeds... not good.
  6. Not yet. Busy with the BBQ. Tja.. when you get arrested, you expose yourself to the public's eye. This is the internet age.
  7. I can do what I want. No law or forum rule forbids me from checking his LinkedIn page. Why would you share his private escapades or make such brazen assumptions on his private life? Is he your brother?
  8. Hmmm... not sure if it's him but on his Linkedin, he certainly has a peculiar writing style. "My hobbies include traveling to new places, learning about new cultures, surfing, and camping with his many dogs. I enjoy the outdoors, the company of his family and being near water. Currently, I am busy building a farm withy wife in Chiang Rai, Thailand. I am is also currently working on finishing my book "Habitual Human" - The Updated Ape Man Study." Hair and tattoos on his Linkedin and Instagram pages seem to match the arrest photo.
  9. Yes, I have read about Poland and other Baltic countries abusing the EU Arrest Warrant system for the most trivial offences. There was even one extradition request that a friend of mine looked into. He was the lawyer for the guy arrested in Germany on the strength of the EU warrant. Warsaw was pursuing the offender for "stealing an electric saw" about a decade ago. Poland is definitely on that list of naughty countries wasting police resources.
  10. Oh no no no... this is an insidious and cruel crime. Acid is a painful weapon. The injuries and scars are lasting and permanent. Very traumatic. I hope they are caught before they make it back to Poland.
  11. Doesn't change the fact that this is a serious security lapse. Nothing for me to admit or acknowledge in terms of getting it now, in the past or in the future. Whether I "got it now" that the extra passenger was detected post-takeoff instead of pre-takeoff doesn't change anything substantially or materially in the seriousness of having a stowaway inside the aircraft. Got it now? Good.
  12. Disturbing security lapse. Unconscionable. If that extra passenger had insidious intentions, the aftermath would have been unthinkable. Highly likely the anomaly in the manifest was discovered shortly before take off because they usually do a passenger count whilst taxiing to the runway. And a good thing the flight attendants did that and had the presence of mind to inform the captain, rather than simply dismissing the matter with a perfunctory ไม่เป็นไร
  13. Totally forgot about my humble stash of coins if not for this article ????
  14. How is the principle of descent satisfactorily proven under UK law for citizenship rights, if I may ask? Is the father required to acknowledge paternity at the embassy? Or is the father's entry on the child's birth certificate sufficient proof of lineage and right to citizenship by descent, with or without consular acknowledgment? I vaguely remember an American friend making such an acknowledgment for his infant son (Filipina gf) in Manila many years ago. He then returned to the US and married there, forever cutting ties and communication with the ex. The son however was given that precious privilege of US citizenship as a result of the paternal acknowledgment. It was all she wanted. She declined to pursue child support. Don't embassies require some kind of incontrovertible proof such as a DNA test? By simply asking for the father's birth cert + passport, what's stopping the mother from using just about any other man's documents, assuming she has access to them. Just curious how embassies handle the risk of fraud here.
  15. Reminds me of a notorious loanshark system in the Philippines called 5-6. For every 5 borrowed, the debtor pays back 6 within a month. This translates to an interest rate of 20%. Per month. Borrow 1000 = pay back 1200 10K = 12K 100K = 120K etc
  16. Excellent defence. He said, they said. Meanwhile, the guy who beat his girlfriend to a pulp is free as a bird. Must be a less serious crime than being caught in possession of this pair of wooden ribs.
  17. Hmmm... I sense a scenario where A (the aforesaid female) conspired with a certain B to make it seem like an unknown C (who happens to be B) took the said valuables. I'll take the shameless liberty of presuming that A may have intentionally left the door unlocked or even slightly ajar so that, perhaps after SMS-ing B that she and falang are about to have that post-coitus shower, B can zero in on the stash. Seems like the "thief" knew exactly where to zero in and was most likely briefed in advance. The thief knew that the Flying Dutchman was having a shower and for him to enter the room at the exact right moment, someone in the room must have told him what was happening behind closed doors. Inside job.
  18. I wish someone somewhere could invent a revolutionary procedure to extract the stones without actually removing the gallbladder. I have these stones (discovered at Raffles Hospital in Singapore) in 2014. Totally asymptomatic back then but I now have occasional episodes of abdominal pain (i.e. pain that sometimes radiates to my back). Quoted price of 340k thb is manageable and well within my means but I'm not very keen on having the gallbladder extracted after reading about potential lifelong post-op issues. A temp solution of mine is to put it off... sort of distract myself and think about happier things. Pretend it isn't there. Bad habit, i know.
  19. He was escorted to the nearest stationery shop to buy brown envelopes.
  20. This is just obscene. Beating a frail defenceless female's body. Does this give certain men a supernatural surge of power and joy when they deliver blow after blow upon a delicate human being? I can't even imagine doing this to a less-than-defenceless female person.
  21. The mind boggles. How are arresting decisions made or calibrated by this country's authorities? On the one hand, this man is arrested for collecting skeletons of a dead animal. On the other hand, another man is not arrested for brutally beating his girlfriend.
