    This poor young man's life cut short. Dying at 22 is just incredibly tragic. Just 1 more year and he would have graduated with an engineering degree. She should do the right thing. Return immediately, make reparations to his loved ones and do the time.

Thing is I did half of my undergraduate studies in Chicago back in the 90s and when I wanted to get a transcript of my records, they wanted money orders or checks only. And a US address to send the documents to. Ended up abandoning that super complicated intergalactic mission.

    I have a friend with this problem and the embassy advised him to first clear up the immigration issue before applying for a passport, apparently because a valid visa is a requirement for such an application. Absurd. Immigration won't touch his overstay paperwork with a ten foot pole unless they see a valid passport.

    Very sad. I had severe depression in the 1990s. Almost ended my life back then. Was lucky to have friends who recognized the signs. The young man is most likely dead, considering how many days he has been missing and the fact that he went overboard during frightful circumstances (darkness and rough seas).
