  1. Have you seen the cost of flights to thailand? People who are flying to Thailand aren't bothered about an extra 5p on a tin of beans....
  2. I never understand this quote that is perpetuated "Thailand has never been colonised"!!! Depending how far you go back in history Khmer, India and let us not forgetting in recent historical times Japan and the historical big brother China. If you know grass root thais they inevitably fall into Thai Chinese, Thai Japanese, Thai Chinese or Thai Malay and each group are proud of their heritage. Thailand did not keep any of the old empires out, Thailand was a convenient buffer for them.
  3. Any dog can be vicious and the most loving dog can go from Fido to Cerberus is a split second in the right circumstances. The owner should be competent to train and socialise their dog starting at a couple of months old. The American Pit Bull was known as the Nanny Dog because of its loving, loyal, caring and "Protective" nature. Any dog that bites and draws blood should be immediately put down and its that simple. Note I am a dog lover, I have owned trained and worked my dogs to a high standard yet my dogs were always on the lead except when working.
  4. Wasn't there a very strange Land purchase made prior to the coup sorry not allowed to talk about it. The chances are very slim any law effecting monopoly Thailand.
  5. Lol, calling me woke.... I'm far from it infact the opposite and as for saying I'm a dictator omg! At no point have I told you not to watch. However, I have suggested about anyone who watches this should check their moral compass and I stand by that 100%. Regardless of the quality of the football for your enjoyment you are directly condoning not hundreds but thousands killed and not even mentioning human rights abuse. Crack on and enjoy.
  6. Seeing out the end of your day's in Thailand and you have the money to ride out any storms with good family around you is a good idea. Not all care homes in the uk are bad. My wife worked at one and it took very good care of of the resident's. Its families in the uk that don't have the same feelings for their old.
  7. Try researching and you will see. The fact that it is being held there shows how currupt the organisation is and it should be dissolved. The country is one of the worst human rights violators in the world. I suppose if your OK with numbers like 6,500 migrant workers dying for your pleasure then crack on.
  8. I'm sorry buy anyone who watches this should seriously check their moral compass!!! Boycotting it myself.
  9. Wow you dug deep with that analogy. The Krays were on the go 60 years ago and if you asked the non criminals in their Manor they were loved. Not quite the thai mafia who wear uniforms of different colours.
  10. Very good move. 2006 I saw the change with coup 1 for me. Attitudes changed almost overnight towards foreigners (I worked at an English school where all the native English speaking teachers were replaced by philipean teachers). Imigration rules changed and I left as did nearly all my friends. Then back in 2010 and life was OK built a house then another and this one is 10 times worse even the thai people are suffering. Do they not realise when people now are deciding their big holiday the go on the Internet and search. Tourists beaten up by gangs of yobs hospitalised or murdered, deaths and government sanctioned 2 to 4 times over pricing depending on how rich your country of origin is. Who in their right mind takes their family there for a holiday or retires there.
  11. Yes and that was the reason I/we as a family left Thailand in 2019. The remark from imigration "It's only 800,000baht" was the tipping point. Not knowing what the rules were as constantly changing with the compulsory insurance being talked about (I had looked at health insurance and it was so expensive I decided to buy a car and 2 big bikes as my families health insurance. This worked out well as I was able to cash out when we were leaving).
  12. Obviously I would buy it in joint names or my name.
  13. Think dogs get lifted and put in the pound in civilised countries and if not claimed or re homed they are put to sleep. I can't remember the last time I saw a dog wondering the streets alone even with a collar on.
  14. Isn't that a very dangerous job? Wasn't there a story of foreign auditors arriving in Thailand and being murdered? Plus let's not talk about the diamond!!! Then there is the policeman who had to flee Thailand and now lives in Australia!!!!
  15. So if I marry a ???????? citizen and move there I have to invest $500k to buy a house and live with my spouse?
  16. Back in 2002 a very wise expat told me "never ever invest in Thailand any more than you can afford to walk away from and that was my mantra. Even though I built a 3 bedroom bungalow the equation I used was expected rent over 10 years (I built the house with 7 year rent and we left Thailand after 8 years).
  17. Last time I checked a foreigner (Thai) doesn't need to invest £1,000,000 in the uk to buy land to build a house on infact even buying estates of hundreds of acres!!! Then have that land ownership reviewed after 5 years....
  18. As do the military and using the term military really sticks in my throat being a veteran.
  19. Such hatred of some posters on here. With such hatred for English /Foreigners why read Thai visa? As for if your not happy leave well many do. In the 20 years I have lived and visited Thailand only one friend remains. Derogatory comments about hod carrying waddling, bar stool English expats shows such hatred and racism. People in the building trade in the uk can make vast some of money as do many who decide to live in Thailand. Throwing £20,000+ into a thai bank basically not to be used is not chump change....
  20. Utter bull! We had to push our family holiday to March due to flight costs and saved 50%. If we did not have family and house in Thailand we would not be going (first time back in 4 years). £1200~£1600 per person. That's a big whole in a normal family holiday budget and spending money.
  21. We must be very strange as booking our flights to thailand our electric bill never once came up in our thinking. I think if your going on holiday because your worried about your electric bill maybe spending over £2,200 on a flight isn't a good idea.
