Very good move. 2006 I saw the change with coup 1 for me. Attitudes changed almost overnight towards foreigners (I worked at an English school where all the native English speaking teachers were replaced by philipean teachers). Imigration rules changed and I left as did nearly all my friends. Then back in 2010 and life was OK built a house then another and this one is 10 times worse even the thai people are suffering. Do they not realise when people now are deciding their big holiday the go on the Internet and search. Tourists beaten up by gangs of yobs hospitalised or murdered, deaths and government sanctioned 2 to 4 times over pricing depending on how rich your country of origin is. Who in their right mind takes their family there for a holiday or retires there.

Yes and that was the reason I/we as a family left Thailand in 2019. The remark from imigration "It's only 800,000baht" was the tipping point. Not knowing what the rules were as constantly changing with the compulsory insurance being talked about (I had looked at health insurance and it was so expensive I decided to buy a car and 2 big bikes as my families health insurance. This worked out well as I was able to cash out when we were leaving).

Soi dog attacked - stray suffers eye injury angering dog lovers
BritScot replied to webfact's topic in Bangkok News
Think dogs get lifted and put in the pound in civilised countries and if not claimed or re homed they are put to sleep. I can't remember the last time I saw a dog wondering the streets alone even with a collar on. -
Pattaya: Operators say they don't pay bribes to police and higher-ups
BritScot replied to webfact's topic in Pattaya News
Isn't that a very dangerous job? Wasn't there a story of foreign auditors arriving in Thailand and being murdered? Plus let's not talk about the diamond!!! Then there is the policeman who had to flee Thailand and now lives in Australia!!!! -
Back in 2002 a very wise expat told me "never ever invest in Thailand any more than you can afford to walk away from and that was my mantra. Even though I built a 3 bedroom bungalow the equation I used was expected rent over 10 years (I built the house with 7 year rent and we left Thailand after 8 years).

Police General Transferred Over Drug Allegations
BritScot replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
As do the military and using the term military really sticks in my throat being a veteran. -
Such hatred of some posters on here. With such hatred for English /Foreigners why read Thai visa? As for if your not happy leave well many do. In the 20 years I have lived and visited Thailand only one friend remains. Derogatory comments about hod carrying waddling, bar stool English expats shows such hatred and racism. People in the building trade in the uk can make vast some of money as do many who decide to live in Thailand. Throwing £20,000+ into a thai bank basically not to be used is not chump change....

I must be reading a different thread as what I'm reading are people screaming for the French men's blood and even read one saying anyone that didn't condem them should also be deported. There are big differences one was an old man and his wife in an unprovoked attack by a group of young men and the othere is one on one and its starting to unfold it was instigated by the thai and it was the French man who was attacked from behind and yes that makes a big difference.

I never said I was 14. I was 21 and a soldier. My point is that a beating so severe you can't move for weeks is in my opinion quite unbelievable. Children as with adults lie (JS). Having spent many years in Thailand surrounded by Thai families rich and poor I found them to be very understanding to gender choices.

The child should have known the reaction would be detrimental dressing in a dress. We also only have the child's version. Being beaten with a plastic pipe then saying was unable to move for weeks I find hard to believe. I was attacked by 14 people, one with a metal bar. My ear had to be stiched back on and many stitches on my face and hands. I was on my feet the next day with a little help. I have found thai society very accepting of gays especially children. Anyone who has taught in a thai school would see this often. However, brining loss of face is a different matter. Bringing outsiders into a family matter is another matter.

BritScot replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Why would anyone trust these MP'S? Looks more like th Junta spreading their wings and weakening the opposition...
