Thailand operates an oil subsidy scheme which helps smooth out the peaks and troughs of consumer petrol prices. At one point during the pandemic the price of petrol/diesel was heavily subsidized by the scheme and this cause the scheme to go into deficit and require loans from government. By keeping the price of petrol/diesel artificially low during the pandemic, the government managed to prevent inflation being passed onto consumers. Now that the oil price is starting to become more normal it's time for the scheme to replenish the fund and pay back the borrowings. I suspect that what you may be seeing in current petrol prices is related to the subsidy scheme. Inflation in September was 6.41% https://tradingeconomics.com/thailand/inflation-cpi#:~:text=Thailand Inflation Rate Eases to 5-Month Low&text=and vegetables %26 fruits.-,Thailand's 2022 headline CPI is projected to rise between 4,compared with consensus of 3.2%.

Loss of green card
nigelforbes replied to If I should die's topic in Visas and migration to other countries
I did similar many years ago, I was deemed to have abandoned my Green Card but didn't have any problems going back as a tourist. BUT that was 1985, I read recently that people in that situation continue to have some obligations but I can't recall exactly what, possibly tax reporting. I'll do some digging and try to find oyt what out was. -
Health and Accident Insurance for Thai Partner.(female)
nigelforbes replied to Jumbo1968's topic in Insurance in Thailand
My wife was employed for only a couple of years, during which time her employer paid SSc contributions for her. After she left that employment she continued to make her own SSc payments and has done so for the past 20 years, during which time she has not been formally employed. Once the account is established at the outset, through some type of formal employment, the option remains for her to continue to make payments, potentially for the rest of her life. -
Indeed this is the case. I tried making that point using sarcasm in my earlier post but I guess it didn't register with everyone.
-
"nothing any other poster writes here is of any consequence". I already guessed this was how you felt.

That's right, we 150,000 expats should all boycott the national parks and hope the 7 to 40 million tourists who came to Thailand to see them on their annual holiday will do the same thing!

Any problems depositing in Thai partner’s account…..?
nigelforbes replied to mikey88's topic in Chiang Mai
Those deposits would have to be very large to attract attention, very large indeed. I transfer to my wife monthly, it pays for all the household expenses and I've made that transfer each month for over 20 years. OP: I've transferred a couple of million to my wifes account for the same reasons, it isn't a problem. A couple of times she's transferred it back and later it's been returned, nobody raises an eyelid. -
Superficies or Usufruct
nigelforbes replied to Jaunty's topic in Real Estate, Housing, House and Land Ownership
Others with more recent and detailed knowledge will be along shortly, in the meantime: An usufruct gives the grantee (potentially you) the right to live in the property either for life or for the duration of the usufruct, it ends when you die. Importantly, it also confers the right to say who can and cannot live in the property. An usufructee (you) cannot sell the property but they can issue a 30 year lease to a third party. Superficies gives you the right to control the building which you own and the land upon which it is built, land that you don't own. Superficies can be for a specific term or for the life of the grantor or the receiver, if for a specific term the superficies can be willed to others. An usufruct can be registered at the Land Office at the time of purchase/sale, the cost used to be less than 100 baht. Using a lawyer may give you more comfort but this will cost you several thousand (I paid 10k). This may help explain further. https://www.samuiforsale.com/real-rights/ And here's a previous discussion on the subject: -
I don't know if you've ever blocked anyone, so in case you haven't, what you see is a one line item rather than the blocked persons post. That one line gives the reader the option to take a peek at the blocked persons post or to ignore it. I have six people on my block list, from time to time I take a peek to see if any of their behaviors have changed and they are writing things that are intelligent and sensible, or whether they continue to post the usual nonsense that got them blocked in the first place. I realize the blocked person may not think their post is nonsense (actually, I'm pretty sure some of them do) but as this thread has demonstrated, we all want a slightly different experience here and the ignore list helps provide that. I do realize that being on an ignore list doesn't affect the blockee in a big way, but I do know that some do find it annoying when they don't get a response. You're on my list ever since the debate about agents, so is the poster you mentioned, along with ST and three others. I wish you six would all put me on your ignore lists, that would make my life really sweet, something for you to consider perhaps. In the meantime, we can happily co-exist, side by side, without needing to interact or even be aware of each other, that's almost perfect. Byee.
-
Just to be clear, you elevated to my ignore list hours back so stop trying.

Me neither, but there again I'm on a desktop that's ad proof. I did try accessing the site on my smartphone, that experience was ad. city and lasted under two minutes.

But isn't that the way everyone feels to some degree, I need the forum to be X so unless it is that then it's wrong? What about the poor troll who spends his/her time baiting other posters, they think the forum should allow that behavior whilst others want to intelligent debate....where to draw the line?
-
Several posters seem to go out of their way to try and prove this is not the case, I think under the circumstances moderators can be forgiven if some adults get caught in the middle by accident.
-
A perfect example, one poster has made 10% of the posts and said absolutely nothing.
-
You were called out on your trolling picture post, get over it and don't do it again, it's against forum rules.
-
And ditto the same back to you also. The point is that I made a constructive observation about a specific problems with the forum, you simply told us how you felt, there's a big difference.

Enforcement checking for Foreigners on overstay !
nigelforbes replied to Social Media's topic in Pattaya
Too funny, this thread triggered the same thing with me, I just got finished taking pictures of my new visa and passport. -
Yes I do know that lots of people are able to do it and still do so, but that's not the point. The way things work here is that at some point, perhaps years in the future, somebody, somewhere will decide to take action. That law has been on the books for years. We have English friends who went that route over 20 years ago and everything was fine, until about five years ago when one government department or office decided to have a crack down, the Land Office I think but am not certain. They were paid a visit by officials to confirm the ownership of the house and after some discussion they were given 6 months to change the ownership arrangements. My wife is a Thai citizen and she became the registered owner of the land for several years, until we asked to change the arrangement because there was then a new crackdown in place, this one on proxy ownership for foreigners. Ownership then changed to another Thai who was willing to take the risk. TBH the way things are going, these sorts of controls over foreigners are only going to become tighter and tighter.

Probate Procedure in Pattaya - The information that I could get
nigelforbes replied to Mickeymaus's topic in Pattaya
Would you care to share the contact details of that lawyer, by PM if necessary? I for one would appreciate it very much. -
Thanks, it just helps demonstrate what's wrong with the forum and why there are so few people posting here.
