Easy Pass is broken, is there an easy solution?
Furioso replied to Furioso's topic in Thailand Motor Discussion
Update: My neighbor checked this morning, turns out that Digbeth is right he's had M-Pass(not Easy Pass) the whole time. He went to the KrungThai bank this morning and they told him they don't issue the cards anymore. He called me from the bank and after a little back and forth it looks like a road trip to Bangkok to buy Easy Pass is on the horizon. We didn't even discuss the M-Flow license plate reader option. So, to summarize: 1. You can no longer buy M-Pass cards. 2. AFAIK you can't get Easy Pass cards in Pattaya. 3. M-Flow is a license plate reader option, but it is intriguing, see my next post. Thanks again to all for your inputs, very helpful! -

I think the device costs 1,000 Baht, plus you have to put at least 300 Baht on the card. -
Did you buy a car at the bangkok motorshow?

Thanks, this is good info to know for the next auto show, which I believe will be in late Nov or Dec. -

It's interesting you point this out. As I mentioned, we stopped at a rest top on the way back from Bangkok. He and the other guy I was with went to what I thought was an Easy Pass store, but I went straight for the Starbucks lol. When we met back up they said the "store" couldn't fix/replace the device but they gave them a number to call. Once back on the Hwy they called the number, I believe they said there was a long waiting list to get a new one, like 6 weeks or something. This obviously did not sit well with my friend, that's why he made sure to stop at the Pattaya toll booth, hoping the Easy/M-Pass shack/store was still there, but it was abandoned. This is where he originally bought his card, and I think that's where he was going every time he needed to add more Baht. Ultimately I think you're right. Go to Bangkok, either the stores near the tool booths up there or their big offices(I think they have 2). One way or another this Easy Pass situation will be settled soon, I appreciate all your help! -

Thanks, I think you're right, this is where he'll end up solving his easy pass problem. -

I'm glad you posted this question. It was only my second Bangkok Auto Show. The mulitcolored Posche was definitely the star of the show imho. Anyway, I'm glad you posted this question. While at the auto show I asked my friend if foreigners can order cars and he said "probably only Thai's". I had my eye on the City, oh well. -

Yes he bought it from the Hwy7 stand next to the toll booths. He's always said Easy Pass but I'll ask him tomorrow if it could be M-Pass. -

This is not a bad suggestion, I did edit my orig post describing we went to a rest stop Easy Pass as well, with no luck. However, it could be a long day trying to find the right Easy Pass store. Maybe someone knows a specific Easy Pass place that's highly recommended? -
My neighbor has an Easy Pass in his MG HS. Last month we went from Pattaya to the Bangkok Auto Show and along the way it stopped working. We stopped at one of those rest stop areas on the way back, the Easy Pass office only gave us a phone number, called that number but no luck. He originally bought it at the little shack next to the Pattaya toll booths but now that's been abandoned. It's very possible he needs a new device but with the Pattaya tollbooth office/store closed, where can this be done? Is there an easy solution to this Easy Pass problem?

I don't think you're overthinking this at all. And it's great you want to keep the owner happy. A couple of suggestions. 1. I'd tell the owner the exact dates you'll be gone and who will have access to check and/or clean the condo. 2. I'd want someone to check the condo(water leakage from above or from inside?) every 2 weeks. 3. I'd hire someone to clean at the 30 day and 60 day mark. Then, when you come back you'll see what your condo looks like after 30 days of stagnation. Nice info to know for any future trip. 4. Make sure owner has a way to contact you while you're gone. 5. Flip the main power switch. Leave fridge doors open. Dry/wipe down everything before you leave. 6. Somebody nearby needs to have emergency access. The main thing is to discuss your plans with the owner. He/she may have different ideas of what should be done, maybe they will check while you're gone? Good luck!

My neighbor bought a MG HS. He first looked at the ZS but it didn't have a turbo and was a little too basic. Wanting a little more he test drove the HS and he was really impressed, a much smoother and powerful ride with turbo and dual clutch. They gave him quite a discount, he ended up talking them down from 1.1 million to around 980 thousand. I was very dubious that the HS was going to be any good but once I got inside I was pretty shocked how nice the interior is. Then we took a couple of trips up to the recent Bangkok auto shows, once again, very surprised. I've been a big fan of Japanese cars for over 40 years I thought I would find many faults with his MG. But I have to be honest, so far I haven't found any. He's had the HS for around a year and a half, taken many long trips and had zero problems. Man, he loves his cars too, takes excellent care both in cleanliness and maintenance. He does admit he doesn't know how the reliability will hold up, that's the one thing that hasn't been answered. But so far I can only say his HS is much, much better than I expected.

You're right, these dangerous %'s have doubled/tripled/quadrupled over the last few decades. Governments should have protected their citizens, but they didn't. Citizens should have risen up and crushed the evil doers, but they didn't. And the sad fact that you point out; We do this to our children. A crime against humanity.

This is a simple formula being implemented by corporations all over the world. 1. Get the populations addicted to your deadly poison. 2. The population becomes obese, weak, easier to manipulate. 3. Rake in the profits. 4. The rich become richer. 5. The poor become not only poorer, but also SLAVES to their corporate masters.

Cyanara Sara looks like an evil beech! -
That's great you've got the best of both worlds. I moved around quite a bit since age 17. Ever since 2011 I've been in moderate or hot climes, the coldest being as you describe(10 at night). Although I was living a better standard of living) in the west it was costing me around 4500 AUD a month and I grew bored. Honestly I would consider going back to the west if it was like it was back in the early 90's when people were much healthier. My god they are so incredibly obese now I will never return. A morbid obesity apocalypse.

There are a couple of months where the pollution is really bad that's for sure. Almost all of Asia is polluted like this, I lived in S. Korea for 5 years and it was awful as well. I lived in Tokyo too some days it was impossible to see Mt. Fuji. Add a few precautionary steps, like wearing a mask outside/stay inside with A/C on, during the really bad months and you probably won't suffer many consequences. Think about the tradeoff. Back in your home country do you have those miserable weather months, long winter, short spring, brutal summer, bleak fall? The weather here is mostly great. Are we going to live forever? Of course not, we don't even know if there's a tomorrow but we can choose a nice place to live. We're the lucky ones.

Jesus, what an animal. I'm very sorry this happened!

It's the same everywhere I go. A woman looks for a man to give her a house. It's all they care about, they are 100% consumed by getting a free house. And yes, they have been taught their whole lives that somehow they deserve it. This never ending obsession with a house has ruined a large part of the world.

It will get real nasty. You're in Thailand you can live elsewhere. You can live in a nice condo and go walking everyday, have friends and "visitors, and laugh a lot. Get rid of that lying, deceitful wife. Live to 90+ and be happy.

Not a bad start. Maybe something catchy would be more fun: "The Thai Die!" killer? "The Beast from South-east!" -
