  1. In the beginning I was very deferential to the idiots. I'm not yet to the point of trolling but I don't wear masks any more. I've always considered myself fairly culturally sensitive but we are to the point of moronic behavior
  2. I don't think it's a good time to invest unless you're a bear with amazing strategy
  3. Auto is depreciating asset. Weigh if the convenience is worth the cost. I've decided never to buy a car. When we leave central Bangkok and maybe move to hua hin I still won't buy transport. Just call a taxi. Best value in the world.
  4. People that don't have their priorities and health in order Never did any of that. Stopped at 2 Az. Travel everywhere, public transportation, never use alcohol. Never had covid.
  5. I work this way. Notebook, tablet, phone + A4 notepad and often smaller scratch paper. I keep to-do lists on my phone, notebook and paper Paper is very efficient in diagramming, sketching, thinking. Also, something in the notebook you'll be turning it off on repeatedly. Waste of time
  6. The mask thing is ridiculous. I don't think they'll ever take them off especially on transit. I second the fear factor. I see it, feel it around me. Some still double masked. Two layers doing nothing except impeding breathing and probably promoting sickness as everyone touches, reuses their masks. Funny, throughout all this was the real shocker that foreigners believe (still) masks offer protection
  7. Great post and I couldn't agree more. What psychopath would be angry with a foreigner because when they expressed themselves in greeting or cultural exchange it wasn't as perfect as a native son or daughter? Sorry, no. The people that simply won't wai are self conscious, embarrassed, perplexed, lazy and self centered. Speaking the language well and not wai'ing strikes me as even more problematic. Decades ago I had a Khmer gf in the US. We went to a fancy big Khmer party. My new gf asked me if I knew how and when to wai and that it was important to her that I did so. That was in the US even.
  8. So, don't wave hello, shake hands.. Perhaps live in a cave. Perfect for cavemen
  9. You're just trolling and gave been for some time
  10. That you are aware of... No, Thais are masters of toleration
  11. Not even close to being the same. And yes, if I were a soldier I'd expect I'd salute back. Cultural ignoramus. Lost. Some just not cut out to even leave the pub back home... Sadly
  12. Imo a foreigner shoud never wai as the top photo shows. It's very correct but for an old, farang man it shows too much beta. That's the kinda of wai that goes to a parent upon seeing them after six months away. The bottom is not really a wai. If you are shy get in front of a mirror and wai 30 times a day for a week. You'll feel much better about it About the only person you really must wai are your spouse's parents and if working you should know how to properly wai your boss. You should return almost everyone's wai.
  13. But they look even more stupid when they don't.
  14. There's absolutely nothing wrong with returning the wai of a child and even service staff. You just shouldn't initiate either. With staff it's ok to not always wai but you should acknowledge (must) We are foreigners don't sweat the small stuff. Trying is 90%
  15. Yes, there are some minor breakfast foods but all is game. Cold pizza?? Usually just coffee. Possibly porridge if camping, noodles in city. Love noodles (clear soup) in the morning but yeah... could eat Phad Kaprow or anything available. Maybe a bit of bread at work. Can't eat that heavy stuff in the tropics SFF lol
  16. Prolly get a 10 year sentence, her defense will tell her she'll do 5 but she'll be out in 3.
  17. Skype is absolute <deleted>. How is this abortion owned by Microsoft. Anyway, bestest cheapest solution if calling even semi regularly. AIS I think I use 003
  18. Variation on the English breakfast whinge. Unfortunate so many British seemingly can't adjust especially those ironically on holiday. Next up, we have the GBP vs THB whinge... I remember in 2006 it was 60/1 waaaaaahhh...
  19. 90% of teachers here are purely working for wages and a visa, no clue how to create a proper assignment and especially to teach it. Their lack of motivation is what led them to Thailand and teaching. They do as little as possible regardless of whether that leads to successful student outcomes. They are worksheet facilitators not teachers.
  20. I think most Thais understand a set back. Life here is not easy for tens of millions, wake up. Most earn 15-25k pm and many work long hours often in hardship for that pittance Can't fail students for a variety of reasons. Society won't pay for it just for starts. That's true nearly the world over
  21. I believe this is a kiosk in a basement. I think I went there to try and get my Omega overhauled inexpensively. They wanted 8k and two months. 2 months is normal for working on a watch I just didn't want to leave it there for that. I ended up taking it to Swatch and having a full overhaul done. But I needed a strap and looked everywhere and that guy in Fortune town was the only place that had proper straps for proper prices. He had a few older Swiss watches lying about and he looked like he was quite an experienced watchmaker. Established.
