Funny enough British parliament is debating now to put Thailand into a red zone due to growing numbers and it’s not a joke

There's no debate,it's the cabinet and the quangos who make the recommendation and then Boris will make the final decision. As always

Nice story. Native dog? Which would that be? Bangkaew? Ridgeback?

It might be different in the country if they are not used to people; but in the cities it is easy to put them at ease. Once they know you, no problem.

You tell the story as if they are all out to get you. No different than if strangers were hanging around your neighbourhood. You would want to know if friend or foe.

You are just reflecting your fear of dogs.

For me it's about the difference between a single dog and the packs. They really need to start culling.

Could it be that the neighbor is playing the loud music in order to try and drown out the sound of the construction? That's exactly what I do. I don't even really like loud music but it's all kinds of preferable to the sounds of South-East-Asia's second nature (construction!) so when work is going on I reluctantly put my music on to whatever level is required to cover it up.

That's why they invented sound reducing Bluetooth headphones. If you wear them and only turn on the sound reducing it helps, pair them with foam ear plugs you will have total silence.May be not a long term solution but it gets me through any construction work while they renovate the apartments in my Blok.

I buy online a box of 250 pairs of earplugs it can get costly if you buy them a few pairs at a time and I don't live in Thailand. They are one of the first things I pack when I do plan a trip.

Because the function I need is NFC, Near Field Communication, and for some of the phone it is listed as available in certain regions.

Nowhere is listed which regions that are, and even Xiaomi global can't answer the question, as I had an email conversation with them. So the only way to know for sure is boot up the phone and check in the settings

NFC works max 4cm how is that regional?

From what date? where are you getting this info from?

A bold ( and likely untrue ) statement on your part.

Unvaccinated tourists can come to Thailand anytime they want as it stands, so long as they do the 15 day quarantine.

As long as you show the airlines proof that you have been vaccinated twice and had a negative test no older than 72 hours. Not sure about the need for insurance.Form an orderly queue please.

Ya, but shelters are full and euthanizing isn't going to happen on a mass scale in Thailand, so what other solution is there besides a long term approach of sterilization to reduce the population over time?  Check the statistics - sterilization programs work.

Thailand's street dogs are MUCH nicer than street dogs a lot of countries where people are less kind. I'm not aware of a huge danger from street dogs in Thailand. All of the horrific mauling's of children and adults I've read about here were pet animals of breeds intentionally bred for aggression.

A single dog is a different animal to a pack of dogs.Years ago when I was in Goa all the dogs on the beach were super friendly, that's how they survived through the generations only the nice ones were tolerated.Once a year or so the authorities would organise a shooting of strays and packs of them.

The Thai dogs are another animal completely, the native dog is bred as a guard dog and is super territorial and aggressive.Visit Cha Am and I dare you to walk around late at night! The only solution is a mass culling combined with a sterilisation program. In these pandemic times don't expect much support for any new social attempts to sort problems out.

You can get the Alum crystal roll on in Pattaya, get a non scented natural version.you do have to make it wet but it dries ok.its long lasting and not expensive. It should only contain Ammonium Alum, good luck in translating the Thai labels.

I should say it's a stick of Ammonium Alum in a plastic tube so no sharp edges, same size and shape as most of the deodorants you see.I think I even found some in a 7/11.

    @CharlieH

Thanks... I did see that, and it's on a couple of other ecommerce sites also, but as we both said it's very expensive with international shipping costs.

And that still doesn't guarantee that it won't get additional fees from customs when it arrives. Almost everything I've ever ordered from overseas has been both an extra expense and extra hassle when it arrived, so that's definitely not my first choice for multiple reasons.

That's why I hoped there was some other reasonably similar product available locally.

Any non gooey, non scented roll on would do the trick. I hope someone has a tip about a locally available product like that.

It's not just about the cost, once they are here, what is there left open for them to see and do?

Many will simply wait until Pattaya has recovered to a point that a holiday here would be worth spending for.

Another winter without a break will just about finish us snowbirds off.If all the Gogo's and girly bars disappeared without trace the sun in Thailand during our northern European winters will still be the main attraction. There is still a market for the pensioner on a budget, clean, basic, cheapish and cheerful really.

Why would a western tourist jump these hurdles?

Let me take a shot at that:
Because Thailand and Thai people and Thai culture are absolutely the best in the world unmatched by any other place or people and the rest of the world desperately wants to come to Prathet Thai and worship at the feet of such an amazing and exceptional nation?
    Am I close?

How dare you! The post Brexit Brits are the best.Whats culture?

Even Phuket bars etc are closed and the only plus is the beaches. The Mediterranean and USA resorts are open.

    No need to contact embassy.

No copies of documents to apply for certificate of entry.

No ASQ and showing of advance booking

    No expensive covid Insurance.

Why would a western tourist jump these hurdles?

I don't know about US resorts but nearly all EU countries require proof of vaccination and a negative test, there is some quarantine as well. Here in the Netherlands the media are reporting that masks will not be needed from next week. The infection rate is dropping fast except for 16-24 year olds, that's rising fast mainly with those returning from Spain, Portugal and one other country I think it was Greece.Dont hold your breath expecting things to get back to normal any time soon.

Thank you, why couldn't your mate give a simple answer like that.

So is the whole world taking an unproven theory as a scientific objective.?

So the only basis for the claim of 70% vaccinated giving herd immunity is the claim itself. That is what I understand you to be saying.

That's what I understand, though it's not even a theory just a concept that's touted as scientific but it's probably more like a political objective.

But where is the FACT that 70% covid vaccination has resulted in Herd Immunity?

When herd immunity first reared its ugly head in the UK last year,it was outed as a concept not a fact.

It's a funny one, because the dishonesty manifests itself differently in each country.  Obviously both places have the "lie over anything if it benefits you in some way without hesitation or consideration of consequences" that is common in SEA, but I think that in Thailand it's a little less conspiratory.  In Vietnam, in my experience, you're a lot more likely to feel like you're being "handled" or conned, while in Thailand it feels a bit more about maintaining status quo and not causing any embarrassment.

I felt like I was a lot more aware if I <deleted> someone off in Vietnam, but also that it was a lot more likely to happen over nothing as well.

In their defence they don't discriminate everybody is a target, foreign born children of the boat people tracing their roots a speciality.

I'd even go as far to say they may even be nicer/friendlier than most of the Thais these days.

My wife is Thai but neither she nor I are blind to the benefits of Vietnam.  We both would like to go back after covid is 'over', we both immensely enjoyed it.

Depending on the type of business i would not deter you from investing in Thailand. The gloom and doom merchants who think places like pattaya and the businesses therein are gone forever are mistaken.

A large proportion of the worlds population are craving a holiday and when the virus danger reduces and travel opens up there will be a mad rush of people coming to Thailand.

However be careful what you wish for.  Personally i am enjoying Thailand very much without the hoards of Chinese that will certainly descend upon us in the not too distant future.

That's me, desperate to get on a plane that's been parked up on some airport apron somewhere for what may be the best part of two years, and probably pay top dollar for the privilege.God only knows what sort of reception awaits those brave pioneers who land on the beaches of Thailand first.I salute them.
