Fishing fury: Boris eyes supertrawler BAN in UK - but sparks panic from British fishermen

A POST-BREXIT ban on supertrawlers from British waters could be challenged by fishing leaders amid fears the move would damage the UK industry while doing little to protect the seabed.

The Government is understood to be considering a ban on the massive vessels which are typically more than 330ft long and have mile-long nets which catch hundreds of tonnes of fish a day. Boris Johnson has already stated he wants to stop the supertrawlers plundering the fishing stocks of the British coast and has ordered officials to examine ways of doing so while sticking to the terms of the post-Brexit trade deal.

Who to listen to Greenpeace or British Fisherman

Not the daily express that's for sure.

It would appear that the UK  trade deficit with the EU will be reduced this year

EU firms refuse UK deliveries over Brexit tax changes

VAT is now being collected at the point of sale rather than at the point of importation.

This essentially means that overseas retailers sending goods to the UK are expected to register for UK VAT and account for it to HMRC if the sale value is less than €150 (£135).

A government spokesperson said: "The new VAT model ensures goods from EU and non-EU countries are treated in the same way and that UK businesses are not disadvantaged by competition from VAT-free imports.

    https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-55530721

In the past there has some traders that would undercut a UK supplier by selling for less and then doing a disappearance act when Vat payments were due

I have ordered a jacket from Universal works UK, for delivery to the Netherlands, they removed the VAT and informed me that I was responsible for any taxes in the Netherlands. They were very clear about this and gave me 24 hours to cancel the order so no problem there.I have no idea what will happen when it arrives here,I assume it will be the normal 20% vat.How I pay and actually get the jacket is unknown to me.I hope it's a simple online transaction,or it better be or it will not be good for trade.More likely the money and brains that were behind Brexit will have their grubby fingers in the pie.

And the Remainers and Rejoiners will still be there for years. Do you really think the EU will allow the UK/Scotland to rejoin? Not a cat in hells chance. Dream on.

They will, just not with the opt outs they had, and the Biggie is they would have to ditch the pound and take the Euro!!!!!!.

Far too early to be holding polls. It will be more interesting to do so in 3 years or so. Boris has won an 80 seat majority in parliament having survived a near death illness, and more recently a 300 plus majority in parliament for the Brexit deal. He still appears to be popular, and I doubt he'll be ousted any time soon.

It was a survey of more than 22,000 people, conducted by the research data company Focaldata, using the multilevel regression and post-stratification (MRP) method.I copied that from the independent. It was first published in the Sunday times and then the Guardian and others.

Tories 284 seats, Labour 282 the SP winning 57 of the 59 Scottish seats. The LibDems down to 2 seats.Light at the end of the tunnel maybe.

Who is going to be first to put up a 10k wager on the result ?come on MGDN.

Agreed - who can possibly foretell with any accuracy at this stage the issues which will be at the forefront of voters' minds as they troop to their polling stations in December 2024? There was certainly no inkling even this time a year ago that COVID-19 would have become the major issue it has!

Anniversaries of deaths of family members,The pressure that's been put upon health care workers. The stress about mums and dads and grandparents in care homes. The disaster that's been education. Not forgetting any problems that may arise now that the UK is actually out.The upcoming row about the Billions the government have given to their mates, may focus minds come the next election.Feel free to add to the list.

The Daily Telegraph is a conservative centre-right ( for some, right wing ) newspaper.

Many believe it write biased stories, read by right wingers who want to read stories that match their beliefs.

However both newspapers contain very interesting articles,  to fully appreciate them, one has to read them without a prejudiced approach.

Trouble is the Telegraph is behind a paywall,so you need to pay to read the "interesting articles" . There's no way I am paying them.I will stick with my Guardian and Independent subscriptions.

Did the guardian conduct the poll in question or just report it? A mate wants to know.

I am not a frequent user of the phone shops too

but seeing the number of phone shops always full

of thai customers i guess there is some demand

Of course there is demand,my internet,TV and mobile SIM card are all from the same supplier. They closed the phone shops here in the Netherlands during the first lockdown,a mate of mine couldn't get on the internet with his new phone and was desperate for the shop to reopen.I managed to get him online by going through it step by step.He is 72.The world and most of the population would be lost if they are offline,it's not about making the odd call.

If you want cheap beer why don't you go to 7/11?

What's so difficult to understand about the fact that the bars want to make money? And they have huge fix costs every month, the whole year around.

No bar makes good money these days. As far as I know best case the bars break even in the moment - that's best case.

Fair enough but we are talking about bars that are pretty basic with minimal running costs apart from rent.

I think average price at that time was 120 Bht, and no gogo.

Tiger draught was 99baht in stumble Inn.

Just had an email cancelling our flights to the UK in June with BA.

Went to re-book another date and no flights available at any time, checked all months to Sept 2021.

Could this be the end of direct flights BKK- LHR with BA? That leaves only Eva Air.

For what it's worth the Dutch government put the whole world on the orange list yesterday, that means only absolutely necessary travel. So it's almost impossible to get insurance etc etc.

and Brexiteers make a big deal of their exclusive fishing zone 200 miles away (in fact this is mainly the Scot's EEZ) but the very hearth british land is owned by foreign interest.

Do you realize that 17% of England’s mountains green is actually owned by Oligarchs and City bankers?

Bring me my Chariot of fire!

The English fishing boat owners all sold their Quota's to mainly Dutch boat owners, slipper captain's.

You are getting your covid restrictions mixed up with your three month visa requirement. All your Remainer moaning is not even worth mentioning to the general UK population. If, or eventually when, you go on holiday just get prepared - simples. Alternatively if it is all too much for you, don't go.

I only got my passport dates mixed up.i was pointing out the things that will definitely be different for UK passport holders.

Also I passed on the FOCO advice about passports.just rein your neck in a bit.
