Utter nonsense ?? Depends on what you consider a walking distance . If you have to walk 3 kilometers before you reach the entertainment area you also could have taken that 15min taxi ride . But ok i geuss everything someone else then you says is Utter nonsense.
And be a hot and dripping wet from sweating when you arrive, you need to be close to the Baht bus rout or brave a motorcycle if you want to enjoy the night life safely for yourself and others, throw in the soi dogs I will take the easy way and stay in Jomtien between beach road and second road with,a balcony on the Pattaya side so there's no sun during the day.
Ok if you really don't drink you may be able to use a scooter or motorbike,it's not if you have an accident but when.
Assuming we are talking about the over 65s here we need to avoid hospital visits at all costs,a lot of guys have died from covid19 by being infected in the hospital.
Jomtien has rules! about loud music it's normally not so bad and if bars want to have a party I think they need some sort of permit, they probably have to pay.

It also does the EU a favour by allowing them to keep a few more vaccines to help them out of their self inflicted, incompetent mess. They need every single one they can get.
Australia already has more vaccines than it needs. This is an anti EU story manufactured by the British anti EU press.

True.Coming from Oz the op may be able to handle the weather better than I can.One post mentioned bored western males in the the chunky monkey? what he doesn't take into consideration is the heat, the last couple of years 2018/19/20 I have noticed and felt that it was even hotter and drier than normal. It will take me at least six months to acclimatise and I'm not sure I ever would be able to function in the hottest time of the year.I visit every year Jan/Feb.

Now I'm re considering.
A number of things have happened since to make me think again.
But before I get onto that I saw another post which again put it in my thoughts
The poster wrote similar to "saw bored lonely old farsang men sitting outside chunky monkey Bar "
Which made me think ...are these farangs any happier now they made their move to Thailand / Pattaya?
I'm working full time at the moment in Australia..I live in my own apartment alone in City close to everything ...have no family. Have 2 good friends only have a secure job which I worked for last 30 years ...
So I start dreaming over the last few years if I moved to Pattaya how wonderful it will be .....but in reality ...
I will rent a 1 bedroom condo
I don't drink or smoke
I guess every morning go to gym...
The rest of the day I guess chase bar girls
After 6 months I guess bored
So the dream is not going to be there in reality is it .
Unless of course I wait till I get older say 70 and settle down but I don't want to end up like those bored old faeang outside the chunky monkey
So unless there's a reason to retire to Thailand ...(the Dream for the last 25 years) maybe if I had a GF there ...but now it's becoming reality I'm scared to retire and go
Is it going to be any better than my current lifestyle?
I have no family but 2 very good friends i can rely on 24 hours
Do farangs retire to Thailand because of boredom... Loneliness.... Girlfriend...
Then find out 6 months later ...hey I'm missing my lifestyle back in farangland .
I want to retire eventually but I enjoy going to work and meeting with my colleagues...
What happens if I take my ultimate dream and off to Thailand ?
Is it going to be better
Who had gone to retire there and GONE BACK to your own country after getting bored
If you live in the north of Europe, and I guess the northern states of the USA and Canada, the warm weather is a reason to contemplate Thailand. Its not only beer and babes.

A pity they couldn't be bothered to address something that really bothers expats: pension rises.
I would never vote for them.My pension is supposed to be covered under the withdrawal agreement. They wouldn't break a signed into law international agreement would they.

I prefer Jomtien only because the air I breathe is better, and less trafic except weekends and holidays. There’s more space too, at least for the moment.
I feel the same, but I am coming round to the idea that splitting a holiday up is the way to go.Start in Pattaya and stay till I can't stand the traffic, pollution and noise etc and then move to jomtien. If I was to choose one to live in full time it would be jomtien.

Your supposition is correct. In my area of expertise, Hazardous Atmosphere electronics, there are many vendors who put false labels on their products. Naturally this is illegal, but as we all know.............Unfortunately, the market wants their phone chargers to be small and cheap. This drives vendors to reduce cost/size to gain market share. If the charger gets warm or shows signs of plastic case deformation, discard the thing immediately and destroy it first so it won't be salvaged from the trash and used by someone else.
As for Joe, his only recourse is to stop buying from the lowest cost vendor in specific areas such as this. Also, looking for certification labels helps, but again, these are falsified, specifically on chinese products. That's why I mentioned Anker charging products, which I have vetted the Lazada Anker Flagship Store with. As @Crossy mentioned, it is a relatively rare event, but still, nobody wants to die this way.
As another member posted though, just don't use products when they are being charged from 220/120V mains sources, UNLESS they are being charged wirelessly. My Samsung S7 can be charged wirelessly (Anker makes a fast charger) or from a power bank charger. More and more products are offering wireless charging options. These deaths occur several times a year and I always make a post much like my first one; do a search to see.
These deaths often occur when the victim is in bed with earbuds connected. It is my unverified opinion that the charger fails, mains current is present on the earphone cables, and the moisture in the inner ear provides a low resistance path through the brain and heart. At lower voltages, such as normal5v phone use, the resistance path is high enough that only minute currents flow even in a fault condition. At 220V/50Hz, there is enough capacitive coupling (lower impedance) from your body to earth in this case to cause high current death; this is conjecture on my part. If true, then over the ear phones would be less likely to present this low impedance path, thus no harm. So Joe should also buy such earphones to use when he's using a mains-charging phone.
Note that we are discussing very specific electrocution hazards from very specific devices. Lots of other electronic equipment, fake labels or not, is not in the same category though it may well still be junk. Living in Thailand I have resigned myself to buying chinese junk and replacing it very year or two.
Or get Bluetooth headphones.

Not sure why my post is in the form of reply to your post, so I do apologise.....
Anyway I am currently watching Nicola's evidence presentation and don't really understand
why the BBC are making such a big deal about this.
It seems that she may well have technically made a few procedural mistakes, but don't , so far
see anything that would warrant resignation. Her prepared statement was, as expected by someone
used to this , assured and competent. The questions from the floor don't seem to be the sort
to place her position in any kind of danger.
It really is quite a dull affair so far with no sensational allegations or revelations.
Salmond appears to be on a vindictive journey with no apparent goal, and for someone who
has had a lifetime commitment to independence, his actions surely only put that goal in jeopardy.
His reputation is already shot, regardless of previous court rulings, the accusations alone have
caused irreparable damage to him, so I don't really understand his motives here.
For the record, I am an Englishman who's UK residence is in the Highlands, so I am not
a person who has a lifetime dream of independence, but wouldn't up sticks and move south
if it were to happen.
My guess is that he's seriously bitter and twisted because they were prepared to let him go to jail, maybe actually tried to facilitate it.Though that may be hard to prove. His career is long gone and his chance to earn money on the after dinner speech circuit, paid to sit on board's of banks etc is a no no.He is going to make them suffer at any cost.

If we aspire to make a better country, we need to have leaders who are above reproach, and systems in place to ensure that wrong doing is found out.
One rule for Westminster and one for Scotland,Wales and Northern Ireland then.

It's down on the TT site 41:95 and the € $ have also dropped,it's minor at the moment. Its reported in the UK press that the Brazil variant has arrived, they can't trace one of the positives because he didn't fill in the contact form when he took the test on arrival.Whats that got to with this thread? According to the Grauniad it might mean that Brits won't be traveling anywhere this summer.

Think she applied for bangladeshi citizenship and got the spanish archer,as for your first comment re european courts of justice,if uk had still been members of the eu could the european court of justice have overuled the british court decision?
Not sure, but the lawyers could tie it up for years. In the mean time she could be in jail,or on benefits. In some cases especially on citizens rights the ECJ reign supreme.

Don,t know about the legal side of this but would she have had more rights of appeal if U.K. Had still been members of the eu?
The European courts of justice is the supreme court for members of the EU.As she's not actually a citizen of the EU? Would she even get there? (She has the right to Bangladesh citizenship) If she did get to the ECJ it's not a given that they would come down on her side. The European courts of human rights also exists and the UK is signed up to that,it's not a EU institution. They both get a bad rap in the UK press because they are slow and the lawyers tie cases up for years with appeals and technicalities, usually about extraditions.

What a ridiculous statement.
That's the reason I go to Jomtien.I am on a pension,on a bit of a budget,a bus ride to and from the airport, not so busy as Pattaya yet only a Baht bus ride away.Dongtang beach is clean and not rammed, the beach along beach road is there when you want to be around people. Not exactly exiting but at my age that's ok.I only visit for 4 to 7 weeks Jan/Feb/march.

THEY understand it well, it's YOU forum members who do not understand the simple fact: Thailand does not want backpackers anymore, only rich tourists are welcome.
Click "back" button in your browser to go to the "Thailand News" subforum and read all those topics about selling elite condos to Chinese millionaires, converting Pattaya to Dubai and such.
The quality v quantity argument is going on all over the world.Venice, Amsterdam, the Spanish islands,Bali and so on.
I know the Chinese-Indian middle class is growing but they are not any better than the European masses, they may not put up with the <deleted> service that we Europeans do.How many elite condos actually exist? what I read is that the ones being built are mostly under 50 square metres, only big enough for their man servants.
