Campaign Against Antisemitism has cancelled its planned counter-protest against a pro-Palestinian march through central London on Saturday.

The group, led by Gideon Falter, had said it wanted to use the “walk together” initiative to support its view that the area around the planned pro-Palestinian march was not safe for Jewish people.

But on Friday afternoon CAA announced that its event had been cancelled amid pressure from those within the Jewish community who feared it could backfire.

Maybe you listen to the terrorists version of events too much, Israel is fighting this war (which they didn't start) with kid gloves on, they have minimised casualties as much as humanely possible. Hamas must take responsibility for the deaths in Gaza for without them there would be none.

From the river to the sea everyone should be free, Jews, Christians, Muslims and non-believers.

  5. It is important to  correct the thoroughly dishonest representation of the circumstances surrounding this incident that has been reported in recent days.

Mr Falter is a prominent pro-Israel activist and leading member of the misnamed ‘Campaign Against Antisemitism’ (CAA), an organisation with an appalling track record of anti-Palestinian racism and Islamophobia. From its foundation, CAA has sought to conflate criticism of the state of Israel with antisemitism, something for which it was criticised by the 2015 All-Party Parliamentary Inquiry Into Antisemitism. Such conflation seeks to silence Palestinian voices by associating their call for justice and liberation with antisemitism, and to suggest that all Jewish people support Israel’s crimes. Both claims fuel rather than challenge racism and should be utterly rejected.

CAA has also been widely accused of racism for its use of anti-Palestinian racist tropes and Islamophobic narratives including smears against the Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan. Since October, it has consistently sought to pressure the police and the government to ban demonstrations against Israel’s genocide, even calling for the army to be deployed to stop marches.

This was a march to campaign against Anti-Semitism .

You very much seem to be in favour of the other side, the Anti-Semites .

This wasn't  pro Israeli march , so you cannot hide behind the old "I just oppose Israel".

This was a march against Anti Semitism and you support the Anti Semites who oppose the march

I'll oppose/support who I want, thankyou, if ever I need any help to decide who I support you will be the first to know, but don't hold your breath.

What was actually ordered by ICJ surely has to be noted, even on a new thread, clearly after reading what the ICJ ordered there is a case of Israel doing wrong, if you take account of Israel's actions since the Order was adopted.

How about holding the entity accountable? With the amounts  of money involved, an outside auditor is needed. This agency has never been audited by any responsible party. There is no transparency. How the money is actually spent  in detail is never declared. That's one of the core issues. It is likely that large amounts of the donations are diverted into people's pockets or for activities not related to relief.

    CORE PROGRAMME BUDGET
All contributions to the UNRWA Programme Budget go directly towards serving the Palestine refugees the Agency is mandated to protect and assist. UNRWA is committed to transparency and accountability, with sensible investment in fundraising and communication, and prudent expenditure on management support and administration.

    UNDERSTANDING THE UNRWA FUNDING STRUCTURE
UNRWA is mandated by the General Assembly under resolution 302(IV) to respond to the needs of more than 5.6 million refugees in its five fields of operation until a just and durable solution is found to the refugee issue. Based on this mandate, UNRWA delivers essential services in the areas of education, health, protection, relief and social services, microfinance and camp improvement with the support of more than 28,000 national Palestinian staff members.

  12. ISTANBUL (AP) — A top Hamas political official told The Associated Press the Islamic militant group is willing to agree to a truce of five years or more with Israel and that it would lay down its weapons and convert into a political party if an independent Palestinian state is established along pre-1967 borders.

The comments by Khalil al-Hayya in an interview Wednesday came amid a stalemate in months of talks for a cease-fire in Gaza. The suggestion that Hamas would disarm appeared to be a significant concession by the militant group officially committed to Israel’s destruction.

But it’s unlikely Israel would consider such a scenario. It has vowed to crush Hamas following the deadly Oct. 7 attacks that triggered the war, and its current leadership is adamantly opposed to the creation of a Palestinian state on lands Israel captured in the 1967 Mideast war.

  13. A new mechanism for getting lifesaving aid into Gaza will start in the coming days, UN Senior Humanitarian and Reconstruction Coordinator Sigrid Kaag announced in a briefing to the Security Council on Wednesday.

“The operationalisation of the mechanism will allow for pipeline prioritisation, predictability, visibility and tracking of supplies to Gaza,” she told ambassadors.

The new plan stemmed from Security Council resolution 2720, adopted in December, which established Ms. Kaag’s position and requested her to forge a UN mechanism to accelerate aid deliveries into the war-torn enclave, which now faces looming famine.

  14. Fleeing Palestinians gunned down despite waving white flags, buildings flattened with whole families inside - the Israeli army has been widely condemned for its conduct in Gaza.

Israel blames Hamas for hiding behind civilians, and for starting the conflict with its October 7th attack.

It’s rare to hear from soldiers who’ve served on the ground, but tonight one Israeli soldier tells us that what he witnessed turned him against Israel’s war.

He's voiced by an actor to protect his identity. And a warning you may find some images upsetting.

The Commissioner is useless at his job and he would say that wouldn't he. The whole country is ashamed at the state of policing In the UK, I would hardly describe Rowley as an Elliot Ness type officer more of an Elliot Mess!

The only reason you have the hump with whoever is in charge of Policing is because you cannot understand the way people feel about the carnage being committed in Gaza and elsewhere.

It's not about what happened on the 7/10, it's about what has happened after, modern comms are now getting out to a wider audience than before and Israel cannot control what the general population around the world sees.

Yes, I now the atrocities of 7/10by Hamas were despicable for the people concerned and yes Israel has a right to defend themselves but the whole World are not on the side of Israel, personally I've seen the same problems year after year, now there must be a different approach to this problem.

What the answer is I have no idea, greater minds than ours will eventually sort it out peacefully but this cannot continue as it is.

But he wasn't talking about this incident which is what this thread is about!

The Met commissioner stressed he was not talking about the latest incident with Falter. He said: “I’m not going to answer that in relation to the Gideon Falter incident … just to be crystal clear.

    First 2 paragraphs:

The commissioner of the Metropolitan police has praised the “professional” conduct of the sergeant who stopped an antisemitism campaigner at a pro-Palestinian march and warned that officers at other protests had been “set up” by activists using “fakery” to undermine the force.

In an interview with the Guardian, Mark Rowley said the sergeant involved in the incident with Gideon Falter would not be disciplined and vigorously defended the Met’s handling of the six months of protests since the 7 October attacks on Israel.
