  1. 15 hours is a joke and anyway with corruption rife people will continued to bribe to get the licence. Also I am bored by these whingers complaining about how unfair the charges are

These people shouldn't have the opportunity to be responsible for driving a vehicle that is extremely dangerous if handled by anyone with little or no skill in safely using it

Pay the police a decent salary from the cash allocated to buy the submarines and then let them enforce the law regarding dangerous driving by impounding the vehicles and imprisoning the drivers responsible for these dangerous actions

  2. Some 20 years ago I arrived in Thailand and one of the main reasons I came was because it was relatively safe with crime minimal - walking down the street at midnight was not a crazy thing to do

The arrival of more money has perpetuated greed and with it crime and violence as the have nots can't cope with the haves and because of emotional immaturity the result is danger on the roads and on the streets

Thailand is now a very sick society and the government doesn't seem that interested in trying to reverse this trend as the TV has daily adverts encouraging more to buy new cars or buy the latest I phone - as I said very sick

  3. My thoughts Youth particularly male youth wants to show how manly, strong and brave they are and with an absence of parental guidance and where appropriate  control the result is a dangerous cocktail and hormones out of control - this is also the case with driving

The answer - Tough enforceable laws on wearing of helmets, speeding, reckless riding and most importantly tough tests before receiving licenses and parents being legally responsible for their children up to the age of 25 so they can also be punished

This may help a little but more women in government to move away from this macho mentality that exists here

  4. Thaix

My thanks to you for clarifying the land of smiles - greater car ownership has transformed the so called gentle Thai into a monster who has little respect for others, who has an ego so large that it rivals the worst of the male species

I sympathize with you and fully understand your thoughts of moving on

This obnoxious behaviour is a direct result of greed and egocentricity

Next time carry a brick with you and throw it at the vehicle and summon the police at the same time

  5. My girlfriend arranged last year for Online Internet with TOT to be installed last September

Recently business has been poor so last week I told her to tell TOT that the service was to be stopped - as the invoices are a month late being issued it required the service to be cut on Apr 5th last week - come this morning the 10th it was still on at the address given to TOT

At lunchtime I went to the office with the router and told the manager that the Internet was still on and that I wasn't happy that they hadn't pulled the plug as instructed - an argument ensued about my girlfriend not signing a form that TOT hadn't given her, The police were called by the female manager and because of my THai language ability she lost complete face in her office, in front of the police and her junior staff

She didn't stop the service hoping to extort 700 Baht threatened if the 1 year contract wasn't honoured - this of course was a bluff as was the threat of the police who were frankly bored to be involved in this trivia

The motto make sure you control these snobby government staff who think they can control you because of their position

I revelled in her loss of face and maybe next time she will think twice about this behaviour and dire service

  6. It is hilarious to read about poor people with only their pick up to provide services

The same pick up costs 2 to 300,00 Baht - wow so poor

The issue is about safety on the roads and yes it is only one example of potential danger but stop using this argument that it hasn't been enforced for years and people are aware of the risks - what about children do they know the risks

Enforce the law and Songram comes once a year so save up for a bus ticket

I am fed up of these pathetic excuses to avoid law enforcement

  7. This law is well over due - the reaction well these people are ignorant about the dangers out there on these dangerous roads and are just thinking of travelling on the cheap or making a quick profit by offering lifts at cheap prices

The same can be seen with the non-use of seat belts - with regard to rules on the road given the shocking accidents seen daily here and the appalling driving I say crackdown and drive this immature ignorant behaviour away and force people to grow up and be adult instead of behaving like whiny children

  8. There are a self centered element in every country and Thailand has it's fair share but people mustn't confuse criticism as racist or anti Thai as there are clearly lots of Thais who don't adopt this behaviour and are just as offended as quiet farang..

It is the responsibility of the local government and the police to maintain law and order - order means noise levels at a level suitable for the time of day. The problem is enforcement and here as you know enforcement is largely dependant on what financial reward will they get for doing the work.

Racism exists here just like in the west - again the law must be strengthened but don't expect any change soon as again this requires work - here lies the problem and of course the excuse used for not doing any - it is hot
