  1. The test is mandatory The extra classes are not and as said are a way of gaining extra income

Thai teachers pressurize parents by saying the child's grade will be poor or they will fail the test

Parents comply - this also applies to extra learning for prathom students whose schools open on Saturday

    I describe this as e****tion

Strong parents know the game and don't play it - simple

  2. Some contributors make comment asking questions and seeking solutions to actions that are clearly atrocities

My own views about the merits of war and being an internationalist - meaning i am not in the business of acquiring territory to feed nationalism is a view. Solutions to demegogues regrettably I don't have and others can chastise me for this but the alternative of bloody conflict to prove that one is right seems to have obvious flaws and is also subjective

  3. Scotwight Innocent victims are in abundance in every conflict and of course this is terrible but I am not clear who carried out this - murderous men, a politically motivated violent group, a government - my comment was about the notion of war and if that justifies mass slaughter

In my opinion it is a symptom of nationalism and xenephobia and that is the problem so as an internationalist i am against war

I don't see other mammals acquiring land just for the sake of it and indiscriminately slaughtering species just because they want to

  4. I think it is pointless going through the usual tit for tat comments saying how both sides behaved atrociously - you just need to ask yourself are you in favour of war or not - all bombs kill and maime - the atom bomb was just bigger and killed more

War mongerers are either psychologically damaged or profiteerers or religious fanatics - collectively evil and sick

  5. Firstly you must establish whether the problem is physical or emotional

For physical problems restrict liquids so no drinks from 2 hrs before bedtime

Also you may need to wake and take children to bathroom a couple of hours after they go to sleep

Emotional causes are more complex and a history of the anxiety issues for this child would need to be considered

  6. Lots of people think 1 day

I say keep the Songran festival but just turn the water off during dayight hours

Serious drought means what it says and to even consider allowing idiots to throw away this precious resource is ludicrous

People can enjoy the New Year without resorting to throwing water - 20 years ago people survived without mobile phones and the INternet so they can cope with a new year without throwing water

Maybe it is more about making gobs of money

  7. I speak Thai so communicating with locals is no problem but that is not friendship

Oh and I have girlfriend - the post is about friendship with a native English speaker who needs to have more than just a relationship with the Thai wife/girlfriend

    So denim - understand now

  8. Your post was about loneliness

I suggest you focus on your own interests initially and with your busy schedule at work time will fly

Get the Internet installed where you live and find out where other schools are who may have farang teachers.

Meeting your own nationality is not easy here and Pattaya although full of farangs isn't that helpful as most are either on a bar stool or in a relationship with a Thai woman. Also it is a long way to travel. I know because I am reluctant to travel from Sattahip which is half the distance.

I am a teacher working in Sattahip

If you just want a chat by all means contact me - I am in a relationship so don't worry that this is a pick up line because it isn't.

  9. Well if you have any knowledge of trade unionism you'll know that historically unions have negotiated wage increases and better conditions for everyone and haven't excluded those who are not members.

Workers who try to avoid having to contribute contributions have always been seen as the equivalent of 'black legs' and so many unions through voting established close shops - so if you don't like closed shop look for alternative work

You can't have your cake and eat it

Great result 4 to 4 but the 4 who voted against the Unions were doubtless employer reps
