  1. That's practical if you go home once a year, just fyi though - leaving the UK you to declare on departure if carrying more than 10K GBP but they can also even seize if carrying over 1K if they have reasonable suspicious it is black money, just a couple of documents to support source should be enough though, and ideally bank wraps are identifiable - get a planned withdrawl, as it shows it's been through the banking system. There was an airport documentary on the other day where a guy had 15k GBP in cash but because the wraps were just his elastic bands from his taxi earnings they seized it.
  2. In worst case scenario and they tax all incoming remittance to foreigners living here on long term visas, even if already taxed at source, whats to stop say gifting the money to your thai wife/gf each month, via international remittance so never touches a thai account in your name, and then just withdraw the cash locally, obviously saving wouldn't be possible, but at close to zero interest rates it doesn't make much sense here anyway. Practically are they really going to expect all the working girls with multiple sponsors sending them bank transfer and western union each month to pay tax on those gifts?
  3. That's bloody ridiculous, another option is the translation company you used for the MFA might have a copy, did you find a way out of it in the end?
  4. How is this not public debt? *Shakes head* I've seen more logic in the crypto forum... if we take this crapcoin, and multiple it with this pokemon, and stake it on this farm, and voila, I guess this is where the blockchain element of the 10,000 baht features... Wouldn't a better idea have been to consider how they were going to fund it before they promised it? Like the 20baht railway scheme thats been pushed back to 2000 and never...
  5. How would you even get this without committing fraud if you've also registered your marriage in your home country? Unless they mean a copy of the original one you used to do the Thai marriage in the first place?
  6. Yep and a 6euro ATM withdrawl fee when any EU bank detect a Thai card.. And send them to local EU immigration for a whole day with half a tree when they want to extend for a mere 30 days..
  7. Deleted original, bad maths, deductions are from the personal allowance not on top. Pages of interest https://taxsummaries.pwc.com/thailand/individual/deductions https://www.uobam.co.th/en/tax-calculation
  8. The witness has to sign the statement the IO writes - when the IO interviews you and your wife - how long you know each other? what's your job etc..? how did you meet blah blah, the IO fills in a form, the witness is then pulled to the counter to sign that too. I doubt they'll let you not bring one The witness then signs another statement when they come to visit you, it was a different group of people though and it seems like a different set of questions, how long he lived her? they live together? and so on... Sign again.. You can always ask, but I suspect the answer will be 'can not'
  9. Last year's photo - don't ask why - but they wanted 2x copies of last years photos too - i think you can submit anything here as I very much doubt they actually archive last year's photos for comparison. Copy of your 90 day report receipt. Copy of your first original entry visa if not in same passport or evisa (the first non-imm O you arrived on).
  10. The heart of sukhumvit ???? ???? I'd laugh if it was Nana You could of got a nice villa on one of the islands for that price.
  11. Keep a UK address (friend, family, or rent an address - but not a PO BOX as its not accepted), and get a UK virtual number. If you're really paranoid use a UK VPN when using the online banking or mobile apps.
  12. Maybe you can explain this nugget of wisdom and enlighten us?
  13. Apple are not in the data center business (for anyone other than themselves), and long removed from the server business, they have no agenda to compete in this space - and they have made that openly clear.
  14. This isn't a joke and has little to do with Windows/Office pirating. AWS (Amazon) is soon to announce a go live of full region in Bangkok, it's been in development for a while, this is 3 AZs (physical data centers) that are separated enough to weather local issues (power, flooding etc..). AWS already have a local-zone here (1 AZ) Azure (Microsoft) and also GoogleCloudPlatform have probably been in development just as long, but this is photo time, this will be well beyond meeting of understanding at this point. This isn't secret in the industry..
  15. There's a bookshop with plenty of English titles at the top of one of building near phrong pong - might be helix building? Around asok you have nice parks to sit and read, early evening or morning - too hot in the day. Another option is get yourself some comfortable earphones and get into podcasts. DIY is another hobby that can be oddly satisfying.
  16. I guess the emergency alarm didn't work either, doesn't seem to be slowing down in a hurry...
  17. And what was the tip/reward for honest taxi driver.. Ah wait I've just noticed the nationality...
  18. In this very forum see example above. Strange seems my original reply was silently truncated/edited.
  19. Who knows? One thing you can count on the rules will change, and unlikely for the better. 10 years ago some people proudly proclaimed overstay wasn't a problem, meh just stay a year and then 20k - and it was true until around 2016. 5 years ago penang was rather easy with plenty of agents fighting over your business. not now.
  20. They've engaged before I believe, there seems no logical reason they wouldn't choose a communication medium popular with expats
  21. Clown show continues.. MFP landslide next election seems almost inevitable
  22. Not quite, 8% compounds to 1.85x multiplier, but okay close enough, importunately your dividends are far from guaranteed, highly unlikely a basket like that you will average 8% consistently over 10 years, you also need to take into consideration that your principle is at risk, in case of Aviva you've lost 40% if you look at 60 months performance. Sure there are mitigation strategies with a basket of equities or via ETF, but you don't have 8% investment there, might of averaged that last year, this year is unknown unlike a savings account. You're comparing a 1% savings income against a volatile portfolio of equities, not quite a fair comparison, but good luck nonetheless.
  23. Where are you getting 8% outside of a gamble? Heck even the UK highest is around 6.2% but only for 12 month out. 10yr UAE US$ bond (to match duration of your LTR) just oversubscribed 5x and that's a tad under 5% at advertised. Not aware of any 8% investment that isn't classified as high risk or outright fraud (timeshare scam, property guaranteed rental deal, pattaya/nana bar stool IFAs). But also note your 1% and 8% would compound in a normal investment vehicle typically too/
  24. That would actually be pretty easy, much of your personal data is shared with the scheme (Visa, Mastercard etc..) and they certainly have detailed flow data for transactions - there are various reasons for this, but you are not simply a routing code for the scheme, e.g. you can actually report your card lost directly with the scheme for example and they'll authenticate you with the data they hold on you (much less than your card issuing bank, but enough to verify you). Even though your issuing bank will likely have no affiliation with Thailand and it's law, your scheme does, and it wouldn't take much legislation to force the scheme to share data sufficient to analyze those purchases for the above reasons. The scheme has to adhere with local laws and regulations to have a functioning payment network. We're not even talking palantir level of big data here, it would rather easy to analyze a few hundred GB of such data daily with only minimal sized data lakes and tooling, it would be trivial infact ... but TIT and they couldn't organize a piss up in a brewery, so its years out before scheme sharing data is a consideration in the subject of this topic imo. In summary: easily possible, but TIT, won't happen for decades
  25. You are joking. Revolut add a rare currency fee for THB, and an out of office hours forex fee, for card thai baht transactions, combining up to 3% if you go do your shopping at Tesco / Tops this morning, most people using Rev are being battered up to 3%. It's not 2015. Revolut is a no go.
