Suvarnabhumi Immigration Ensures 20-Min Wait or Less for Tourists
circa02 replied to webfact's topic in Bangkok News
How else will they practice their 1, 2, 3s out loud? Neung, thumb, Song, thumb, Sam, thumb... It's like watching a grown adult in kindergarten every time I come through swampy, compared to other regional countries the IQ drop is evident just a few hundred meters or so from the disembarking gates, it's like they have a target to take at least 3 minutes per passenger, hey somchai count tourist visas from five years ago all you want, or the pages, that's the latest non-imm visa I open you up on and rest is immaterial so just a pointless task... Quicker these dinosaurs are replaced with the Singapore system the better.. -

They need basic data too on staff performance. KPIs (key performance indicators) would work well here, over the course of a 3-4 hour shift they should be processing roughly the same amount of passengers - within 20% of each other say, a multiple hour window would be sufficient to average out that some passengers are more difficult to process than others, require more questioning, need to be referred to back-office etc.. There are some officers that are clearly ultra slow at their job, regardless of the type of passenger and entry history, these need retraining, and possibly redeployed elsewhere. I very much doubt they have any KPIs or other visibility into staff performance though. -

Yeah they do that often I think, but also Malaysia uses the same cheap fingerprinting garbage, so it often gets switched off at Penang too, not before immigration halls are at bursting point though. If they drop the physical dinosaur stamps they can easily configure the automatic gates, at least for exit, for most of the modern world, just like Taiwan and Singapore do if you have a bio-metric passport. -

Why can't they just do like Singapore and stop this reinventing the wheel nonsense. Biometric passport (40+ countries). Scan, approved, done. 10 seconds. Next. No need to see a dinosaur. No or minimal queue. Is it because the Thai economy is more valuable than Singapore and thus needs a greater degree of protection? -
The independents that try to compete with 7 don't seem to last long, you see them pop up in Sukhumvit and Sukhumvit side roads but they come and go quickly within the space of a few years, I think there's a lot of brand appeal to Thai's for 7/11, Tops Daily, Tesco Fresh etc.. even if it's just some silly pokemon stamps. Independents don't seem to scale beyond your mom and pop shop making a tiny subsistence for the soi or village or moon ban, not worthy of any investment. If you have a look on Google Maps street view and go back a few years you may find it was previously a mini-mart especially if the interior is already suitable (hanging ceiling etc..)

Weighing passengers to become standard for Bangkok Airways
circa02 replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
That seems fair, even though I probably wouldn't benefit, fat to the extent it flows into the next seat however for most people is a life style choice and most of the times the excuses are just silly - big bones, runs in the family (no one runs in your family ????), predisposition to T2, hereditary, is in 99% of cases just a cop out, thus they should pay.. -
Yeah I've seen this first hand, immediately the flies were around first it was an attempt to get me to approve (pay for) an overpriced funeral with fire, chanting, orange people and free flow alcohol for seven days, then disputes over who get the motorbikes, then people attempting to claim assets that weren't even belonging to the deceased - rented. Bank accounts were already completely emptied by time I wrestled control of the situation. Death brings out some helpful, genuine people, but unfortunately it also brings out vultures, liars, backstabbers..

Weighing passengers to become standard for Bangkok Airways
circa02 replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Whilst doing this they should take the opportunity to enforce seat fairness for adjacent passengers, all passenger over 120kg or otherwise visibly obese are required to purchased an extra seat or a paid upgrade to business. Call it fat shaming but until you've had to surrender 3 inches of your already crushingly narrow seat on 13 hour flight you have zero insight. -
Would some low cost bamboo blinds on the exterior help, attached directly over the sliding door on the outside. They won't last long though but since you're only renting and they are only a few k, even 2 years would be good. Sometimes like this but you would need taller version https://www.lazada.co.th/products/130-bamboo-curtain-bamboo-blind-i4057585247-s18333341196.html With the caveat of nearly anything you do would change the appearance, you would need two or three screws inset into the concrete to attach the wooden top bar, but you could easily polyfill them at the end of the tenure and touch up with some tiny bit of paint so it would only be visible if hunting for the detail. If landlord asks in meantime tell him you used no-nails glue. Alternative if you get the right width would be some form of tensioner on the left and right balcony walls which would leave only a tiny mark

Doesn't surprise me, Samui makes Phuket look good for taxis, even years ago airport taxi mafia wanted 500baht from the airport to bophut, which is basically a 10 minute journey and less than 5km. Most expensive flight domestic route in the world, combined with most expensive taxis, now with an all out blood battle as you arrive, nah I'll pass

Just make sure you lock it, Windows key + L if windows, unlikely to get stolen if just nipping back upstairs to make a coffee or take a dump, done that in many airbnb condos with a shared study room. If you are still concerned though a few hundred baht Kensington lock from Lazada will be enough of a deterrence.

Khon Kaen marriage extension
circa02 replied to JCD's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
Sounds like one in a bad mood then, hardly anyone has the yellow/pink book as far as I know to the extent that many amphurs just aren't interested in doing them or you have to get silly amount of sponsors during working hours, I did have a mobile phone bill though to the house in my name that I included in the 120 pages along with wifes blue book, no idea if that helped -
Khon Kaen marriage extension

Yeah seems tense at the moment but I dont think you ticked all the real boxes, the wife used Line (or possibly something else) to get the current list of requirements a few days before - each office has their own PDF of this i think, we attached this to the front of each signed 120 pages with tick marks next to each item - I think this aided our experience a little as in we had the checklist. Was not asked for wifes bank book or my yellow/pink book - dont have, seems odd to ask for them, however I think you may of had to "purple note" it as it seems if you didn't have new photos (at least half a dozen covering different rooms and house number), also the bank statement was a requirement on the list (100thb for the letter + 100thb for the statement covering at least 2 months but best to ask for 3), so if they didn't trip you up on the first two you didn't meet the new requirements as defined in the PDFs, perhaps they were trying to help you by allowing 1 and 2 in leui of other documents - did you have the house bluebook etc.. ? -
Refund, plus interest, then maybe withdraw complaint. That's what I say to Aliexpress sellers when junk or fakes arrives - surprisingly not so often if realistic with expectations, they usually reply with bull<deleted> - like "can not sir for privacy policy please withdraw review first, trust in our understanding my good friend, the lord will make us whole ????"... eventually they relent, or AliExpress gives me the refund.

See same thing. I see them checkout at 7/11 and it's just mountains of pure crap especially around pay day, I think eventually any biological resilience is going to fall through, but for what it's worth many of them seem currently immune to side effects at present, they are getting away with it, for now...

This comes up every few years. I remember some guy trying to get me to invest in their fuel technology startup - trucks running on water - he was really hyped about it, even showed me a youtube video, but of course, I'm just as likely to endorse an independent financial advisor in a Nana bar as I am to celebrate a perpetual energy discovery and the endless riches that await.. This might work in the niche scenario pointed out and that's mildly interesting, but it isn't going to change anything for the rest of the world, clickbait videos

September 2008 and same base spec? If you've replaced the motherboard then I wouldn't necessary call it the same PC, as that probably means upgrade processor a few generations and DDR2 -> DDR3 - > DDR4 etc...

Usually discounts, lazada promoted deal days combined with thai credit cards promotions, and a cashback promotion, can sometimes knock 5-10% off vs buying on the Banana/JIB site directly.

Living Close to Temple: What are the ADVANTAGES?
circa02 replied to GammaGlobulin's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
If you do something wrong, like kill someone drunk driving, you can check yourself in for a few weeks until it blows over whilst remaining close to home with your reputation intact, misses can bring you meals, better than prison. Plus you get unlimited junk food every single day, basically a 7/11 delivered each morning, unfortunately usually the same crappy basket but hey, access to the best lottery tickets right in the car park, and more often than not drugs and booze too (not available at all temples, see terms and conditions) ... Just have to throw some water on people wishing to win the lottery and keep an eye on the donation box. Not so keen on the 5am starts but maybe you can buy yourself out of that too.. -
There must be more to this? Get some new aircons, and make use of early morning and late evenings for exercise or gardening or whatever else you do. Invest in your castle if you haven't already - so many people here just don't, get a nice sofa, a reading chair, decent furniture, make a hobby room etc.. - meet a few people staying in 7k / month condos with back breaking furniture but sitting on empty 250-500k gbp properties in the UK, madness. Immigration is something we all have to do, just do it, and moan about it tomorrow, use an agent if you want to make it easy. Aside from healthcare I can't see what the UK will offer you that's so good to leave it all behind.

Noticed a lot of small shops selling this type of mix, you can spot them by the win bikes coming and going, even my normal taxi stopped for a big bottle of it the other day, said "make me stay awake", reassuring ????♂️ he was fine in terms of driving but I was watching carefully, its got to be better than them being on yaba I figure?

Two People Die in Pattaya Car Crash After Trying to Avoid Street Dog
circa02 replied to snoop1130's topic in Pattaya News
Indeed, entering rainy season now, and just like last year, we'll see the Thais wading through flooded Bangkok side roads with filthy water splashing on to their precious covid forever masks. ???? Meanwhile trash flowing into the street as bins fall over with the water, rats swimming for higher ground, and stray dogs ready to go for the next motorbike isn't an issue. Just have to laugh at the insanity of it all. The street dogs are a problem, they are a real danger, just today I seen three stray dogs chasing the lazada guy who nearly came off his bike. No one is saying the driver isn't at fault too, but some real action needs to be taken with the stray dogs. -
Foreign Credit Card % fee
circa02 replied to zorrow's topic in Jobs, Economy, Banking, Business, Investments
4% is not uncommon just passing along the costs -
It's pretty much all the same now BangChak with Inthanin coffee, or PTT with 7/11 and Amazon. Getting rarer to see a forecourt with independent coffee shops and 40-50baht eateries unless you're driving out of town..
