  1. It generally doesn't. For those on holiday they don't get social security, for those digital nomads or long term visitors on combination of various visas (from Ed, volunteer, bouncing on visa, possibly married) again no social security, for retirees no social security, for those working her 9-5 mon-fri with a WP and paying social here you won't find them smashed in cowboy at 4am on wednesday night, if they are they are probably fired soon enough. And if someone on a weekend goes out to 4am and works on Monday then so what, if you get to this level, then you're excluded from all ranges of diet related disease (practically all and any) because I seen you had a coke and sugar in your coffee, and your BMI is out the perfect range. In my experience most persistent long term alcoholics are early starters and early finishers, these won't be affected by a 4am close, and won't be eating into your social security either.
  2. Yep and then remove their special check-in desks (row 1) and privileges at swampy for the indebted national airline...
  3. A lot of 18-35s do enjoy the late nightlife and few would be deemed the phrase you use, and 4am beyond is pretty normal, when mixing in a club etc.., for reference you generally spend as much in the last hour as you did in the first six hours, it's up to the venues to declare the tax not the customer.. Don't under-estimate the knock-on effect a vibrant nightlife can have on an economy in places like Bangkok, Pattaya and Koh Samui,
  4. Also be careful using these cards at places where you need to prove purchase medium. VbV and SecureCode (them prompts where you have to enter further details, sometimes an SMS OTP, sometimes tap app, sometimes personal questions etc..) should have eliminated the need for airlines demanding "present credit card at checkin" for direct bookings, but time moves slowly in Asia, and logic isn't a player, thus in 2023 many are still asking for this and I very much doubt sticking your Wise app in their face will help given they don't understand the objective for such.
  5. Unless there's some new paradigm happening, card free withdrawl in Thailand is bank specific using your bank balance to fund and bank app to authenticate, you don't stand at the ATM punching in 16 digits of any Visa and flip the card over (or 'show details' in wise app)... Have I missed something?
  6. That's fair enough, for yourself it's either 0 or 100 quid a year in tax, so you won't loose any sleep whatever happens, your amount in thai liabilities after allowances almost perfectly overlaps with 0% rate in the UK, but it doesn't take much to go over 12570, to be hit with 20% in the UK (nothing can do about that), but to then be smacked with an additional 15%-20% remittance tax on thai side (might as well call it if it's as stated), that's going to be a kicker for many as that can take tax up to 40% and not even a high earner at that point.... if it turns out as you state, I personally have my doubt it will happen like that, but thanks for sharing the insight
  7. KannikaP, How clear was he on "Where the money comes from, pension, interest, sister's immoral earnings, is of no matter. It is simply how much is/will be transferred from UK to Thailand in the specific tax year. "? There's a lot of ambiguity in the air at the moment and even the leading accounting firms are saying as much (i.e. wait and see), it surprises me that you've got a clear verdict here as that would mean dual tax would apply (not to your scenario but for many)...
  8. If you care about privacy and the fight for privacy then it has to be Mullvad, don't bother searching for a lifetime deal or 80% off non-sense (you're not a Thai at a shopping center so recognize how dumb these promos are)
  9. Yes christ, another dinosaur photo opportunity no doubt, if actually they required a medical they'd let you know. Did the C-130s actually take off yesterday or are important people still taking selfies with it?
  10. Wise account is in your name. Don't ask just do. You have a sort-code, account number and it's licensed in some form bank, they can not discriminate, any possible confusion might of been from years ago before they became a bank gave individual accounts, and you had a personal reference number instead. Corrected.. I could of swore Wise were a legit bank.
  11. Isn't there some catch with this too, that you pay twice essentially, once converting EUR to THB (loading your virtual thb account), and another when you move it to Thailand? I remember looking into this when the pound was peaking but I couldn't get a clear picture of the fees when using wise.com for storing.
  12. Agree, definitely try the yellow cog testing places first, they on every few streets, the hassle of the DOT office isn't worth it unless as a last choice.
  13. I mean what's story with another 250 standing without queue numbers, is that before opening or after opening? How did they manage to queue fairly then when they started issuing queue numbers again
  14. This was after opening right? How does that work with 250 without queue numbers? Do they maintain a queue outside the entrance door like they do in the pre-8am, or is it a mad rush again with every tosser pushing forwarding thinking a overtaking speed walking/running isn't pushing in?
  15. Here we go, this week's dose of fear, during the silly times this would of been a new winter variant, glad we are past that nonsense but would be nice if they didn't overreact about everything for once. I guess now covid and monkeypox are dead, you can still drum up fear of the flu... thais will be masking for the rest of the time..
  16. Nothing will change whilst the punishment is to accept the invite to the police station with your mummy, wai and 500baht, and rinse and repeat. I think the technology schools need to do more here to address the issues.
  17. This isn't not what the OP is referring to. Re-read. The recipient name on the external transfer won't match due to specifying the account number incorrectly, he is querying weather this will automatically be rejected and returned as it would in modern banking practices. Thai systems, and processes and attitudes, are very much years behind. For example see that little blue/green/purple/yellow book you have, if you visit the the National Taiwan Museum Taiwan of Land Bank Exhibition you will see an exhibition that demos early banking days back when you had a passbook and a machine to update it - the sign refers to the olden days - the same machine is still present on nearly every teller's desk in Thailand and of course you need that silly book every time you interact with the branch ????
  18. Enforcement of name matching has always been behind the capture of name, different banks started rejecting at different times, I recall the UK started about 6 years ago, I wouldn't be surprised if the name matching wasn't enforced in Thailand but I guess it would also depend on the bank, like many of their practices Thai systems are often years behind the modern world.
  19. No, the re-entry permit desk is blocked by a very brief boarding pass check, they will send you away if not on an international.
  20. Save all the screenshots somewhere safe - Dropbox, OneDrive etc.. Do not lose this proof of blackmail due to losing your phone etc. Make a note of dates and times now before you forget. Block her everywhere! No half measures here, facebook, insta, line, whatsapp, all the other silly social networks. Finally, forget her and the drama, move on. Also I believe the legal statue of limitation for sexual assault once the accused is known/identified is only three months, this has already past.
  21. Do you have an iPhone or e-Sim Android then services like Airola are pretty good? If speed is important then be careful though as a lot of roaming package deals put you on lowest tier service level - I was getting 1mbit/sec on roaming, and a friend was getting 50mbit/sec, we both had same phones and we were both connected to same network. Difference was he had a local sim card, and I had a roaming package via one of the Thai incumbents. This wasn't consistent though in all countries.
