Bangkok is getting overrated, far to costly mainly in the malls and shops. Shops in Europe have similar to better quality and sell for less. Tourists, expats and retirees are not that foolish anymore to throw around money.

When developpers and house builders have no idea or just don't care for a specific request, they plainly lie and say "not available in Thailand".

People are increasing their prices all over Thailand. It discourages foreigners from spending. Due to the absurd current US sanctions against Russia, the US has managed to export their inflation globally. Farangs have less money to spend and are more looking into comparing costs, If the local merchants do not understand, it is the entire economy who will continue to suffer. Government must crack down on the cheats who end up in causing big losses on the national economy by overcharging. (but of course nobody will bother)

This is a good reminder never to give out your personnal details like phone or real adress to these one night stand Thai ladies. There are enough quickie rent 2-hour-hotels all over to get the job done. The OP's experience could have ended up worse assuming the lady had an accomplice and the issue could have ended up worse with corrupt cops involved or whatever... I personally always give a phony name in such situations and never invite any over to my real residence.

The bar girls, taxi drivers, Sukhumvit tailors or housing developpers and others who offer services to tourists or retirees definately do not have any ca$h problem, that's for sure.

How can they afford their high end cars, BMW's, Mercs etc on just a govt, salary ? Even in the west a police officer at the same level, earning honestly more, will not be able to such extravagance ? Why not just pull over each police coppers house in Bangkok or in provinces, If the house or his cars go beyond what is expected within the financial meany, tjust ake the chap in the police station and ask him/her to explain and show justification of where the cash comes from. Believe me in top circles of society, hot attractive girls are with many Asians or Indians. All depends in which circles you are peeking. Have seen quite many indians come to Thailand with very attractive indian ladies. Why would they care for the local hookers.? Buy the shirts from Giordano or Uniqlo then take the shirt to any reliable Soi tailor shop. They will do a great job in making the cut length up-to-date. The extra cost will always be less then the new scamming prices on some Sukhumvit tailors asking for 1800 THB (and more) just to hand out decent cloth and a good shirt. Yes compared to europe bla bla...but this is Thailand where foreigners come for quality at a propre price and not have to pay such inflated US rates or western nation rates for labour that costs a fraction of the cost here. Believe it, the real talent who cuts and stitches the shirt in Bangkok does not get all the extra money. It's usually the chaps at the store who make the cast. Not to mention the Bangkok Tailor's "European tours" where they come to cities in Europe, rent hotels and start touting customers in seedy hotel rooms to measure and take orders. Wonder if they pay tax on this type of business abroad or back in Thailand on these European Tailor Tours ?

There are many tourists who do not come to buy tailored clothes, obviously. But quite a few end up in getting tempted and purchasing, thinking that they are making a deal. You are not the only client for the overcharging tailors of Sukhumvit. Just look at the signs in these shops written in foreign languages and displaying prices in Euros, Swiss Francs, Indian Rupees or Dollars.

You are not taking into account the fixed costs of production. A tailor who does the actual cut and the job costs 1/3 the price in Bangkok, compared to "home". Not to mention the other variable costs of production (cloth, electricity, rent) that are 10 times less in Thailand. Not to mention that most tailors in Bangkok do not actually stick the orders. The clothes are done in back side sweatshops, charging low production costs,

Currently in Bangkok, many tailors on Sukhumvit are charging absurd rates ranging from 1300 to 2000 THB, some even more, to make a decent bespoke shirt. These prices are close or similar to prices for good quality, italian cut shirts, one can purchase in Milan or elsewhere in Europe for 50 Euros or even less during the sales. So what's the point ? Why spend in Bangkok at prices that are same as in Europe ? Really not worth the trip anymore. Are we westerners so foolish not to compare and realise the overcharged prices all over Bangkok ?

I far prefer a nice thai cuisine restaurant, then to pay overcharged prices in some fancy western cuisine restaurant that is cheating on the prices. Considering the low wages of the staff locally, their prices that are often close to those in abroad, no way I'm going to give these people my money. A bit like those cheating tailors on Sukhumvit who are now charging almost 50 bucks for premium grade cloth, bespoke shirts. Prices that are the same as the fine quality italian cut shirts, one can purchase in Italy or elsewhere in Europe.

What's the point in buying a house in Thailand on leasehold as you never own the land ? If it's to put in the name of a Thai, it's just leaving the door open to potentially get cheated on your savings. A condo can seem attractive but again, with all the real estate crooks in Thailand and mainly the bad worksmanship that does not appear when new, it can end up in a nightmare. Renting can seem attractive, but the prices are soaring, mainly in many beach towns. And if it's to rent in some polluted, noisy area of Bangkok, no thanks.

A good happy ending soapy with a busty hottie is the best chill for me peanut.

Of course construction workers are a joke in Thailand. But the developpers pushing to sell their homes are no better. Sometimes worse in fact when they are farangs. If you get cheated or a not happy with the work delivered, forget any legal outcome. The best thing to do is to report the problems on social media, with an anonymous FB account on any free wifi network, out of Thailand to avoid any retaliation.

They should be asking Apple to develop...not Microsoft that is a open door to cyber crime. Cyber crime destroys economy and prosperity. Not to mention investors who loose confidence in the country.

Never get involved in any relationship with a local lady that has legal strings. Date, enjoy, have fun, play (and pay of course) all around. But make it so that you can just walk out on the next morning after a wild night of bunga-bunga. Unless of course you wish to pay weekly to maintain either the jobless brother, the parents, the cousin, the farm, the car that suddenly broke down..... Not to forget the risk of contracting some strange STD that elementary protection does not keep you safe...
