Definitely NOT.

It's customary and polite when attending some Jewish events for all men to wear a kippah whether Jewish or not. Kind of like taking off your shoes to enter a Thai home. They would be handed out to all males unless a male was wearing one coming in. They weren't judging you either way.

Yes, you can convert but Jews do NOT seek converts and as I said before to actually convert to Judaism is very hard and takes a long time. So not many people do it. The small hat thing -- there you go again displaying your vile racism. Yes you can cosplay as a rabbi if you like. Doesn't make you a Jew. Not required to answer this of course, but I am bit curious. Were your parents also Jew haters or did you later acquire the disease?

What about JP Morgan? For historical reference: A Jew and King of Jews! Nazi Blast at Morgan - Jewish Telegraphic Agency 1933 As far as U.S. presidents. there never has been a Jewish president (Mexico beat us to it!).

Yes. 100 percent. Because Trump wants to pressure Ukraine to surrender to Putin getting nothing in return. Xi will see that and figure that's the precedent. Do the dirty, maybe deal with some sanctions for a few years, then the weakened west now who has the most important leader a fellow anti democracy dictator, and then win it all. Maga fascists are looking super short term.

Trump ahead in all battleground states - ALL OF THEM!
Jingthing replied to theblether's topic in Political Soapbox
Nah. This election is like no other in history. As far as what happened to Hillary, most people thought she was way ahead so many didn't even bother to vote. If the polls were saying it was close, she would have won because more people would have thought their vote mattered. I kind of like that the maga fascists seem to be irrationally over confident. That might help. -
I think she has distinguished herself on the reproductive rights issue so I would expect her to continue to speak out about that during the many state by state battles of that issue.

They weren't very wrong. She did win the popular vote quite soundly. Exit polls are very different than pre vote polling. -
Why would anyone take any religious texts literally? Again, Jews are an ethnoreligious group. If you're born to a Jewish mother you're a Jew even if you don't believe a word of the Torah and eat ham sandwiches on the regular. That freaks many people out. Oh well.

There is a cultural aspect at least in Ashkenazi culture. The concept of goyishe nachas (Yiddish). A stereotype of course not covering everyone, as no people are a monolith. Meaning Christian families will be super PROUD their kid being a star on the football team. but Jewish families will value winning a science fair much more. Suggesting CULTURAL DIFFERENCES account for differences in types of achievement. What's valued, what's reinforced.

Trump's maga fascist rally opened with a "comedian" who called Puerto Rico a floating island of garbage. Puerto Rico doesn't have electoral votes to win or lose, but there are significant numbers of Puerto Ricans (US CITIZENS ALL) living in swing states like Pennsylvania. Trust me every Puerto Rican with a pulse is going to hear about their island being called a floating island of garbage. They also well remember Trump's disgustlngly poor recovery effort after a major hurricane, including throwing paper towels at a crowd of them as if they were zoo animals. He's such a racist -- and his cult members love that about him. If this election is really going to be as close as most people seem to think, this is the kind of thing that could swing Pennsylvania, and swing the entire election. Thank you Mr. Trump!

Very much worth reading. I'm a WAPO subscriber but here is a case to not cancel in the wake of the Bezos Trump deal. Opinion | I’m not quitting the Washington Post, and I hope you don’t, either - The Washington Post On Thursday night, at the Pulitzer Prize Awards Ceremony in New York, my Post colleagues were feted for winning top honors in three categories. A series, assembled by more than 75 Post journalists on the AR-15’s singular capacity to kill, won for national reporting. And on the editorial side, The Post had a double win: In the commentary category, Vladimir Kara-Murza, writing from prison in Russia, won for his columns demanding democracy in his country; in the editorial writing category, David E. Hoffman won for his series on the “Annals of Autocracy” and the global battle for democracy. Yet the next day, my colleagues and I were deluged with emails and messages from readers on social media. Many said they love our work but are canceling their subscriptions. Still others demanded that we all quit: “Your lack of resignation is a silent endorsement of Donald Trump for President.”

A tossup with a 3 point Harris national lead. -
I'm not picturing that at all. I'm also not picturing her going back to California politics. Definitely books and speaking tours though.

We elect a president to defend the constitution not to worship the individual as a dictator. Maga fascists want a dictator on the side of global pro autocratic enemies rather than western democracies. If Trump wins, the autocratic forces win.

Good intentions, huh? Like spreading antisemitic tropes about control of banking? You're easily snookered.

No.

If she loses, she won't be politically relevant. She won't run again for president. Democrats don't put up previous losers, unlike republicans. What will she do? Don't know. Don't really care. I'm sure she won't starve. She could even take it easy and let her entertainment lawyer husband go back to work. Job one right now is getting her elected president.

Yes the small founding numbers has a lot of current credibility but originally the origin is from the diaspora from ancient Israel. I don't know if this has advanced over the years, but I have heard it's often a waste of money to do one of those genetic testing things if you know you're Ashkenazim, because most likely they'll just tell you what you already know, that you're Ashkenazism without a long list in fun other details that most people get.
-
Correct that Ashkenazim are not the majority in Israel, but they have become more and more mixed.
-
You're confused about the word semitic. There are semitic languages such as Hebrew and Arabic. The word antisemite for better or worse developed specifically only to mean hatred of Jews. You would know well about that.

As said Jews are not ONE ethnic group. But include a few that are definitely Jewish ethnic groups. As far as genetics most Jews in those Jewish ethnic groups other than recent converts will have genetic ties to the Middle east, including Palestinian Arabs and Italians. If you go to Colombia you will find many Catholics who were originally exiled Jews who were forced to convert with identifiable genetics to Sephardim. Types of Jews | My Jewish Learning
