  1. Thailand no longer has any New Zealand Natural shops. They do in Malaysia, Singapore, and Vietnam though. One of my best ever dessert memories was in KL Malaysia where I had a super thick milkshake of their vanilla ice cream blended with primo fresh durian. Their Thailand shops when they existed had special with fruit milkshakes as well but when I checked, no durian. I guess such high end imported ice cream shops haven't done so well in Thailand. Baskin and Robbins projects themselves as a luxury brand here, but like Bud's, definitely is NOT.
  2. Maybe a provincial area of Nicaragua. Not an expat popular area like Grenada. The retirement visa requirements are very low.
  3. Conspiracy theory ridiculousness of the Q kind. Is there something in the water?
  4. One point for Phuket. There is some nice modern architecture in Pattaya but it boomed from a fishing village so old stuff is ugly.
  5. Whether they charge him or not, my impression of Romania has been upgraded. Do they have a retirement visa?
  6. Yeah well that points out that there isn't a one size fits all best plan for all. You always have to consider your own situation, your investment goals, your risk tolerance, your psychological ability to stomach paper downturns, your ability to eat losses if you sell, your current positions, where you got in to those positions, etc. Personally I believe in equities into old age.
  7. So was he released or not? If they are holding him for 30 days to investigate, that doesn't sound too promising for him. Not that I care about him at all but it is an interesting media story.
  8. That's fine but history shows that most people that cash out (generally locking in a loss) waiting for their bottom guesses miss out on historic surges which are often very brief but very big and then they aren't bargains anymore. Again, NOBODY can pick bottoms. If you're talking about new money in the market the best odds are buying in smaller chunks over time -- dollar cost averaging. Again, not being so silly as to think you can pick the bottom.
  9. How is this the fault of Soros? Sounds like a convenient SCAPEGOAT.
  10. BUY for the long term. Bear markets are your friend. https://www.investopedia.com/articles/investing/012116/warren-buffett-be-fearful-when-others-are-greedy.asp "Warren Buffett once said that it is wise for investors to be “fearful when others are greedy, and greedy when others are fearful.”1 This statement is somewhat of a contrarian view on stock markets and relates directly to the price of an asset: when others are greedy, prices typically boil over, and one should be cautious lest they overpay for an asset that subsequently leads to anemic returns. When others are fearful, it may present a good value investment opportunity."
  11. If you buy and hold over many years the return will probably be about 8 percent annually based on history. Not 10.
  12. I call BS. People say Phuket they mean the entire large island. Pattaya similarly refers to a large metro area. The borders may be less defined than Phuket but certainly include central Pattaya, Naklua, Dark Side, and Jomtien. In my view the Pattaya metro area has developed into a mini Bangkok but has the advantage of sea views and sea access.
  13. Great! You can also open an account with State Department Federal Credit Union from Thailand, you can be open to them that you're an expat, and direct deposit to them. Easy to use online SWIFTs with them that cost 30 dollars. I use them and do one or two wires a year.
  14. About Andrew Tate, I'm obviously not in his target audience, and from what I know about him which is limited, I very much do not like him. But he has the right to express his POV no matter how damaging and toxic. What I'm curious about now is on what basis are his defenders claiming he is innocent of what he's being charged with? I don't know either way, but it feels to me his defenders are reacting only in a tribal manner, portraying an obviously extremely aggressive man as some kind of victim, and I'm not seeing any basis in fact.
  15. OK. as said I had a pint of Half Baked delivered. As their number one selling flavor, that was my excuse to buy it and try it. My verdict, while I'm glad that I know what their top seller is like, it's not my favorite and I wouldn't choose it again. Maybe I'm just not a cookie dough person.
  16. It's doubtful an occasional treat is going to kill you. I looked up the ingredients for the Half Baked flavor and didn't see corn syrup.
  17. Pattaya METRO AREA is a MUCH better place to live. Sure Phuket has beautiful beaches, but get real folks, what percentage of expats actually go to the beach all that often once they live there? So many advantages to Pattaya already mentioned here. Easy access to Bangkok often the top tourist destination on the planet. For a vacation for new to Thailand types, arguably Phuket is better. But again for expats, there really isn't a contest and it is NOT only about cost.
  18. This movie seems to be very polarizing. On imdb mostly very good reviews by critics and really really bad ones by the public. I gave it a go and it put me to sleep. For what I saw, I could see some of the elements that critics probably liked such as interesting characters, but ... NOPE
  19. He's a horrible human being that shouldn't have ever had access to any elected office, much less the most powerful one in the world.
