Long Time Forum Fan wants to answer your Mexico questions
Jingthing replied to LaosLover's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
There is obviously politics involved in any visa crackdown. Political winds change. If short term tourists are good, permanent tourists are good too and they spend on establishing households. That 170 figure was for temp or perm residency? -

I'm not convinced yet that Mexico's crackdown on serial 180 day visa runners is a permanent change. My hunch is its more like a shakeout that may last a few years or so. It is true that its very hard to get an appointment at a consulate for temp or perm residence because masses of visa runners. have indeed been pushed into that. Yes the financial requirements have gone up but keep in mind you can also qualify by showing money outside of Mexico and my information says funds in retirement accounts such as IRA are accepted. -
1500 a month is poverty level especially if you need to rent. So it's "best" in that context. I reckon those places beat homelessness or living in a car, though I seriously doubt 1500 would cut it above total misery even in those places unless supplemented with savings. Not to mention many people have S.S. checks much lower than 1500.

Condo Irregularities ?
Jingthing replied to Gussie's topic in Real Estate, Housing, House and Land Ownership
Its my impression that horror stories involving mysterious money vanishing are very common here. Your condo is worthless if the building its in falls apart. Special assessments. Be afraid. -

It's very common in newer buildings. Its definitely a major red flag in older buildings. That said major corruption is not rare here regardless. -
Vitamin D Prevents Serious Illness and Death from Covid?
Jingthing replied to placeholder's topic in COVID-19 Coronavirus
Up to you. Doctors have been known to be wrong or not up to date on scientific studies. In my knowledge very large doses are typically used to quickly address diagnosed deficiency but then not. 20k IU of course is not a high dose if taken weekly. Recently a doctor sold me pills for another condition. I went home and two minutes of research showed they were very contradicted for me personally. Indeed dangerous. I really don't blindly trust doctors in.general but even more so in Thailand. -

Again it all depends on the office you're sending the document to. My issue was a real estate title. Thai notary definitely not ok! -

A person could change pesos in Europe, the US, and the rest of Latin America, etc. I think a 20 percent discount is fair. The traveling buyer can get a profit and help an expat brother out. But expecting anywhere near a market rate is probably dreaming. -

Actually its very difficult to get enough D from DIET alone! You might be thinking of other vitamins. D is more like a hormone. -

Often travelers have an excess of local currency near the end of their trips. I think most people tend to just spend it on splurges and souvenir dreck much to the delight of local vendors. -

Fun facts. Thailand is ranked 26th in GDP. Mexico 15th. Nerve of them not to trade pesos. -

Well he didn't have that as a good option. Anti vaxxers should be dissed till the cows come home but people that shouldn't be vaccinated for legit medical reasons deserve great respect and understanding. -

Yes. I was responding. I saw that show about the ex-Nazis too. It definitely showed that there were limits to any de-Nazification efforts. -

Well I was also thinking along those lines. The same variety of "stinkin' thinkin' links both movements. Germans said it can't happen here too. -

You took me too literally. Thailand and Mexico are on the same planet. Mexican Pesos are legal currency for anyone now in Thailand that will be travelling to Mexico or even another country that will exchange them. So don't throw the notes in the trash. -

If he find someone planning to travel to Mexico they might go for a 20 percent discount. I wouldn't contact the Mexican embassy. They didn't become diplomats for such trivial matters. -

Perhaps what he can or can't afford is his own business. The Mex Pesos are worth something in Thailand. Its still money.
