Yes! And this is the most disappointing thing for me about Trump - it's that he has so many supporters, maybe about 45% of the registered voters. And I don't think Trump created them. I think they were always there, hiding under rocks, and Trump has given them the encouragement and permission to crawl out from under those rocks. No matter who wins the upcoming election, I'm sure the other side will not accept defeat, and there will be "blood in the streets." And I'll be watching it all on CNN while sitting in my easy chair here in my house in the jungle-filled mountains of Thailand.

Trump ahead in all battleground states - ALL OF THEM!
WDSmart replied to theblether's topic in Political Soapbox
I certainly hope these polls do not predict the real outcomes. I can't imagine how horrible it would be to have Trump become president again. I just can't understand how so many of my fellow US citizens could consider backing a man like that. Even if Trump loses, it will probably be that 45% or more of registered voters voted for him. Despicable! -
We (USA) do live in a democratic republic. The Electoral College is a feature of the republic. I am in favor of eliminating it, or at least revising it so the votes of each state are proportioned to the vote count. Two states do that now. I don't know what you're referring to when you say the left pushes "unpopular" issues through the courts. I am not in favor of either party "packing" any courts, but both sides do that when they have the opportunity. I don't know how that can be prevented, but I wish it could.

Trump ahead in all battleground states - ALL OF THEM!
WDSmart replied to theblether's topic in Political Soapbox
First and foremost Trump is not a “felon” until sentencing. If that ever takes place. Can a President elect pardon himself? I'm not a lawyer, but my understanding is that Trump has already been convicted of these felonies, so he is a felon. Sentencing only determines what punishment, if any, he'll get for that. I say, "Lock him up!" I'm sure a president-elect cannot pardon himself, and it is my (non-lawyer) understanding that a sitting president can only pardon anyone, including himself, for federal charges, not state charges. -

Oh yeah, the bookkeeping charges. He’s guilty of reimbursing his lawyer for arranging a non-disclosure agreement and calling it a legal expense. Harris is guilty of letting over ten million mostly unvetted illegal aliens flood access the border, many of whom are criminals terrorizing citizens. I’ll go with the bookkeeping “fraud”. You ho ahead-on with the open borders. Those bookkeeping charges are now convicted felonies. Harris has been VICE president for the past three and a half years. During that time, "...under President Joe Biden. Government statistics show that in the initial processing of millions of encounters, 2.5 million people have been released into the U.S. and 2.8 million have been removed or expelled." Breaking Down the Immigration Figures - FactCheck.org And as far as the crime rate is concerned, "Alex Nowrasteh, with the libertarian Cato Institute, analyzed the Texas data to make a comparison of immigrants in the country illegally and native-born residents. In a recent post he noted that in 2015 Texas police made 815,689 arrests of native-born Americans, 37,776 arrests of immigrants in the country illegally and 20,323 arrests of legal immigrants. Given the relative populations for each group, he wrote, “The arrest rate for illegal immigrants was 40 percent below that of native-born Americans.” Is Illegal Immigration Linked to More or Less Crime? - FactCheck.org I say, "Lock up the felon!" I have already voted for Harris and expect her, if elected, to revise our border policy to protect both our citizens and aliens who are seeking asylum. -

For what? He’s about to become President. For the 34 felony counts on which he's already been convicted. I'm sure there are more convictions to come. Here's what all 34 felony counts in Trump's hush money trial mean : NPR -
I've voted for Harris and am sure she'll get the majority of the popular vote, perhaps has much as 5 million more votes. But, the Electoral College vote is still up in the air. For many years I've thought the Electoral College system in elected presidents should be changed or abolished. Rung & Bill: US Electoral College - Opinion

I've already voted, and I voted for Harris. I'd vote for anyone whose election would keep Trump from becoming president again. -
Meta’s Suspension of Jet-Tracking Accounts Sparks Free Speech Debate

IMO, if these flight details are available to the public, they should not be prohibited from being posted on public sites such as Meta/Facebook. It shouldn't be up to the public site to determine what public information can and cannot be shared on their platform. -
As a citizen of the USA and a Democrat, I don't see these as "strategic errors." a) Kamala admits our border policy is broken, but that's been the case for many, many years. Also, the current immigration policies already include deportation if the immigrant is found to not meet the qualifications for being a refugee. b) Race and gender discrimination are not "strategic errors" of the Democrats. They are unwelcome traits of some people of all political parties.

Elon Musk's Voter Giveaway Sparks Debate: Legal or Political Maneuver?
WDSmart replied to Social Media's topic in World News
I'd say it's illegal. But if it's not, it should be. As a US citizen, I do not want petitions signed or candidates elected because they offered or gave money to the voters to encourage their participation. -
