Another sad individual that does not understand or comprehend that an International agreement, not only trumps Thai domestic law ( including Thai Tax Law ) but takes precedent over it. That International Agreement is called CRS Thailand signed up to that, with the publication of the Royal decree on 31 March 2023. No new laws, or changes to any laws are required. It was done and dusted with the publication of the Royal Decree. Just like DTA's ( International Agreements ) Trump and take precedent over Thai Domestic tax Law. Perhaps Thailand will come to understand that signing up to it wasn't such a great idea after all, and withdraw from it, but until such times as that it does, it will comply with CRS. And part of that is having Foreign Income declared, to ensure tax compliance and no engagement in tax evasion. Hence the UK's SA106 and all the other forms that CRS Countries use. -

Current forms being the operative words. You still cannot see beyond Thailand. Despite me spelling it out and providing the forms. The UK joined CRS in 2017. SA106 Foreign Income tax form was introduced for UK tax year 2018 -19. Thailand joined CRS in 2023 Foreign income forms will follow. Go around the rest of the CRS Countries and check out what " Foreign Income " forms that they introduced after joining CRS But, hey. You go right ahead and believe that Thailand will not be doing the same. -

No, I do not know your personal circumstances. I do know that someone on a UK State Pension will probably pay nothing in Thai tax. I also know that monies already taxed will be subject to tax credits. I also know that people on a large number of Pensions with pay nothing As will people on US SS. There are probably a whole load of others. So no, in the main, I don't see many that will pay any tax in Thailand and it will be nothing more than a paper exercise. Why people are getting so vexed about a paper exercise, I have no idea. And just to cheer you up. The UK joined CRS in 2107. The SA106 Foreign Income form was added for tax year 2018 - 19. -

Sure, I try my hardest to stay off Thai roads after dark O'Clock, but it guarantees nothing. We can all hope for the best health wise, and continue to plan ahead, that doesn't mean that life can 't or wont kick us in the nuts at any time. -

You would need to argue that point with the RD 1. Exemption Method 2. Tax Credit Method. https://www.rd.go.th/english/23520.html -
Is It worth Paying NI Top-up?
The Cyclist replied to LuckyLucas's topic in UK & Europe Topics and Events
Yes, that is what I said. When you start the ball rolling to start the State Pension. Losing Baht 500,000 a year, top line perhaps, deduct additional tax, a State Pension today takes me into the 40% tax bracket. When I could potentially gain a tax free lump sum. And there is the issue. Take a lump sum and enjoy it, or take an annual pension and potentially only see it for 2 or 3 years. Again, just to reiterate. Not a good move for someone who only has a State Pension. It is worth considering, should it come to pass, for those that the State Pension is nothing more than a bonus. -

Perhaps because you are not the brightest ? Perhaps because no-one mentioned a US SA 100 or SA106, or anything to do with the RD Website. Perhaps because the 2024 forms have not been uploaded to the RD website yet. Perhaps you are hoping like a man possessed that it cannot be true. After all the RD is not going to raise much, if any Revenue, due to the amount of posters that 1. Income is exempt by virtue of a DTA. 2. With tax credits there will be nothing to pay anyway. 3. And the biggest cohort of all, the cohort who only remit savings from prior to 31 Dec 2023. Makes me scratch my head, wondering why so many people are absolutely aghast that they might have to fill in a bit of paper and hand it in 😀😀😀 -

I did try and tell you https://aseannow.com/topic/1348917-thai-tax-tangle-expats-warned-of-new-rules-on-overseas-income/#comment-19515691 It's not about Thailand. It is about International treaties. Here is the UK's foreign Income Tax form. 6 pages long, covers all types of foreign income, income tax paid abroad and DTA's. https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/media/6602c41265ca2fa78e7da897/SA106-2024.pdf -

Bank Account interest is a different animal, and is probably ( As I am not American ) done in conjunction with the IRS. This is about more than collecting a few beans in tax from foreigners. And I have no intention of going into the reasons why. Just have a look at the SA160 I posted, and it is not a stretch to imagine Thailand doing the same, in compliance with an International agreement. -

Yes, I'm not disagreeing that is how it is painted. I do disagree that it is a fair comparison. Just like trying to compare the NHS with France, Germany or Holland. Totally different funding model. All I can say, is thankfully that will never be me, and whatever I end up getting as a State Pension is nothing more than a bonus and some extra spending money. -

That is not a banks job. That is the revenue Departments Job. Or the IRS Or HMRC Or whatever every other Countries tax department is called HMRC's form for declaring Foreign Income, declaring taxes already paid and income covered by a DTA. https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/media/6602c41265ca2fa78e7da897/SA106-2024.pdf -

How much of an International ****storm do you think banks witholding tax on monies that are not taxable cause ? -
Another question that needs answered. Why was a Human Rights Lawyer head of the CPS and DPP CPS - Criminal Prosecution Service. DPP - Director of Public Prosecutions This sums it up, Starmer played by the female Cop Sums up why the UK is in clip, and why there is now a clamour for a National Inquiry.

Is the harsh criticisms of Sir Keir Starmer fair and justified
The Cyclist replied to Rimmer's topic in Political Soapbox
This is a good indicator of how stupid he really is Surely as a former DPP, he should have been wise enough to say that an active investigation is ongoing, and I cannot comment any further. Going to look even more stupid, than he does already, If she gets hammered by the Bangladeshi's. -
With an English mother, He never came to the UK via Channel Dinghies or stuck in the undercarriage of a plane. Knuckled down and made a very good life for himself. Given the thread title, I thought you were going to astound us all by announcing that he was boning Rachel from Customer Complaints.

Cant agree with that. Just like the NHS model, I don't think any other ( Major ) European Country follows the UK's State Pension models. So difficult, if not impossible to make a direct comparison. -

Is it really a bad deal if they raise the age to 70 ( being discussed ) and you are on a frozen pension ? It would be a bad deal if the only Pension you had was the State Pension, and I am not convinced that their is a significant amount of Brits, full time in Thialand, living on only the State Pension. -

Now we are getting somewhere. The UK, a CRS Country requires all foreigners to complete Self Assessment 100 ( SA100 ) File in your personal details and check 1 box, No 5, Foreign income. Fill in Self Assessment 106 ( SA106 ) which is 6 pages long and covers every type of income, tax already paid on that income and whether that income is subject to a DTA. I still think this page has not been updated yet https://www.rd.go.th/english/65308.html simply because they haven't finalised the paperwork yet. -

Listen to @hotandsticky I believe this is why the State Pension was moved over to a " Benefit " in 2016 ? Easier to make it ' Means Tested ' at some point in the future, I also think that ' Future ' will be sometime during this Parliament, if the UK stays on the current trajectory. I haven't heard any whispers about Residency requirements, but that also makes sense. I have heard whispers about the potential to offer people, not yet receiving the State Pension, a lump sum payment to waive the State Pension, when they make a claim. A figure IRO of £80k was mentioned. Not saying it is all true, or will happen. But I think it is clear to most that the State Pension cannot continue, under the current model. -
There will be some that are hoping that between now and the next GE, Labour can turn things around. I think that would take a miracle, and I'm not a believer in miracles. Labour did not win the last GE, the Tories were voted out, the next GE will follow the same path.
