Picture courtesy of Khoasod A shocking discovery was made in central Phuket when a woman’s body was found on the top of a first-floor canopy, having believed to have fallen from the third floor of a derelict hotel. The deceased, identified as 44-year-old Ms Ratchanok was a homeless woman known to frequent the abandoned building. Authorities estimate she had been dead for three days before her body was discovered. The grim find occurred on the evening of 13 March when people on the rooftop of a nearby built spotted the body and alerted the police. The building is located in Phuket’s historic old town, an area popular with locals and tourists. Police and forensic experts arrived at the scene along with rescue personnel. Initial examinations suggested the woman had fallen from the third-floor of the abandoned hotel, which has been unused since the COVID-19 pandemic and the area is under the jurisdiction of Phuket City Municipality. A local reported having seen Ms Ratchanok dancing on the third floor of the building three days prior to the discovery of the body. Her body was sent for autopsy at Vachira Phuket Hospital to determine the precise cause of death. Police investigations are ongoing to establish whether foul play was involved or if it was accidental. -- 2025-03-14 Video from bystanders. ScreenRecording_03-14-2025 10-30-08_1.mp4

Picture courtesy of Khoasod. A gang of thieves who brazenly stole washing machines, refrigerators, air conditioners, and televisions using just a single motorbike has been apprehended by police. Three suspects have been arrested, while one remains at large. At 21:00 on 13 March, Pol. Col. Pisut Chantarasuwan, Superintendent of Rattanathibet Police Station in Nonthaburi, along with Pol. Lt. Col. Phasakorn Chaiwatee Wong, Deputy Superintendent of Investigation, led an operation to arrest three suspects: Kasempun Phowijit (37), Nares Monpun (28), and Piyawat Yuensuk (22). The stolen items recovered from the suspects included one washing machine, one refrigerator, one television, and one air conditioner. The gang used a blue-and-black Honda Wave motorbike, which had no licence plate, to transport the stolen goods. Kasempun was arrested at a rented house in Soi Nonthaburi 14, while Nares and Piyawat were found at a rented room in Soi Nonthaburi 8, both in Mueang Nonthaburi District. The investigation began after a victim reported a break-in at a shophouse in Soi Rattanathibet 28. The theft occurred between 22 February and 5 March, during which thieves forced open the back door and stole various electrical appliances. Police examined CCTV footage from the area and found 3-4 suspects breaking in through the back of the building before using a motorbike to transport the stolen goods. The suspects made multiple trips, carrying off washing machines, refrigerators, and televisions of various sizes (43-inch and 55-inch models). From their inquiries, officers identified the suspects as Kasempun, Nares, Piyawat, and a fourth man known as “Tee,” who remains on the run. During questioning, Nares claimed that Tee had told them he had stolen electrical wiring from an abandoned house in Soi Rattanathibet 28 and that various household appliances were left behind. Believing the items were unclaimed, the group proceeded to take them. Nares admitted they had taken the goods in multiple trips, first carrying out the washing machine, then the refrigerator, and later the televisions. The thefts began on 22 February. Before that, Tee and Kasempun had already taken two televisions and an air conditioner. Nares stated that he had kept some of the stolen items for personal use, still unaware they belonged to someone else, as Tee had claimed they came from a fire-damaged house. The suspects have been charged with theft at night involving forced entry and the use of a vehicle to transport stolen property, aiding their escape or evading capture. They have been handed over to Rattanathibet Police Station for further legal proceedings. Meanwhile, police are continuing their search for Tee, who remains at large. -- 2025-03-14

Picture from responders. A 31-year-old man was killed in a collision after his motorcycle crashed into the back of a contractor’s pickup truck parked for highway sign installation in Nonthaburi. The crash occurred at around 23:00 on 12 March on the outbound lane of Rama IV Bridge in Bang Tanai, Pak Kret District. Local police from Chaiyapruek Police Station, along with emergency responders from the Ruamkatanyu Foundation and forensic experts, were called to the scene. At the scene, officers discovered the body of Wutthichart 31, lying next to his severely damaged brown Honda Forza motorbike (registration from Bangkok) in the left lane. The other vehicle involved was a blue Ford pickup truck (registration from Lopburi), which had sustained rear-end damage. The truck belonged to a contractor working on behalf of the Department of Highways to install road signs. Panyakit Srisuwan, 53, the head of the construction crew, stated that his team had been working on the bridge for about three hours prior to the accident. Roadworks were in progress in the right lane, with crew members directing traffic and orange traffic cones placed to alert approaching vehicles. According to a witness, the motorcyclist had attempted to overtake a lorry in the middle lane at high speed. In doing so, he lost control and veered into the construction zone, crashing into the parked pickup truck, which had its hazard lights flashing. Dashcam footage from a bystander’s vehicle showed that the contractor’s pickup truck was parked in the right lane with flashing lights on its roof. However, there were no warning cones placed behind the vehicle, only two cones were positioned in front of it. Police have documented the scene and interviewed the construction crew leader. Further investigations will include reviewing CCTV footage and gathering additional witness statements. The deceased’s body has been transferred to the Institute of Forensic Medicine for an autopsy. -- 2025-03-14

A 63-year-old man who fatally shot a 40-year-old Lao woman at a karaoke bar in Phatthalung has been arrested in Phetchaburi following a dramatic police chase. The suspect, identified as Mr. Tawee, 63, allegedly shot and killed Ms. Poo, 40, inside Tong 4 Karaoke on Phetkasem Road, Khao Chaison district, Phatthalung, at around 21:00 on March 11. Police believe the attack was motivated by jealousy. According to police reports, Mr. Tawee, a regular customer at the karaoke bar, entered the premises and demanded to see Ms. Poo, who had locked herself inside a private room. When she refused to open the door, he forced his way in and opened fire, hitting her four times in the head and torso with a 9mm pistol. She died at the scene. Investigators found three spent bullet casings and one unused 9mm round near the doorway. Witnesses reported that Mr. Tawee had been seen arguing with the victim in the past, and their relationship had become increasingly volatile in recent weeks. Thailand to Integrate Unregistered Ambulances into National Emergency System Picture courtesy of Matichon. Picture courtesy of Matichon. The Thai Ministry of Public Health (MOPH) and the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) have announced plans to incorporate unregistered emergency ambulances into the national system, aiming to improve coverage and efficiency across all regions. The initiative was revealed during the 9th National Conference on Emergency Medicine in Local Administrative Organisations, held at the Miracle Grand Convention Hotel in Lak Si, Bangkok. The event, themed “Advancing Local Healthcare: Strengthening Emergency Medicine in Thailand,” was attended by senior government officials, including Kittikorn Lohsunthorn, Secretary to the Minister of Public Health, Bangkok Governor Chadchart Sittipunt, and Deputy Governor Tavida Kamolvej. Lertlak Leelaruangsang, Director of the BMA’s Medical Services Department, stated that the conference serves as a platform for emergency medical personnel from across Thailand to exchange knowledge, develop skills, and improve emergency medical management. The event also aims to promote research, innovation, and policy recommendations to enhance emergency medical networks in major cities and local communities. Kittikorn emphasised the importance of equitable access to emergency medical care, a key government priority. “We are committed to improving emergency medical services through innovation, workforce development, and public awareness. This initiative will help ensure timely medical assistance, reducing fatalities and disabilities.” A significant focus of the discussions was on unregistered ambulances, which currently operate outside legal frameworks. These vehicles, though crucial in emergency response, often lack standardised oversight. Kittikorn proposed that all unregistered ambulances should officially register with the authorities to comply with regulations. To streamline this process, the National Institute for Emergency Medicine (NIEM) plans to introduce official identification cards, vehicle registration certificates, or uniforms to distinguish legally recognised emergency medical providers. This measure aims to improve service efficiency and patient safety. Bangkok Governor Chadchart Sittipunt highlighted the benefits of cross-sector collaboration, stating, “Sharing expertise across agencies will enhance emergency services. Bangkok can learn from other regions, and together, we can strengthen Thailand’s emergency medical infrastructure.” Deputy Governor Tavida Kamolvej noted that while Bangkok’s emergency fleet is generally sufficient, but at certain peak times experience shortages. The BMA is working to optimise ambulance distribution to ensure comprehensive coverage. Authorities hope these efforts will create a more organised and effective emergency medical system, ensuring that patients receive timely and high-quality care. -- 2025-03-14

Picture courtesy of Ministry of Industry The Ministry of Industry has launched a crackdown on a rented house in a community in Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya province, following reports of foreign nationals, believed to be Chinese, illegally storing hazardous chemicals. Local residents expressed concerns over the potential for explosions or fires, fearing a repeat of the “Phachi Warehouse” incident. The house in question is situated in the midst of a densely populated area, which heightened the risks to surrounding communities. Mr. Ekkanat Phromphan, Minister of Industry, revealed that his office had received complaints from locals about suspicious activity involving foreign nationals at a rented residence. The individuals were reportedly transporting and stockpiling unknown chemicals. Fearing a disaster, the ministry sent an inspection team to investigate the premises. The inspection team, led by Ms. Thitiphat Chotdejachai, the Minister’s Special Advisor, along with officials from the Department of Industrial Works, Ayutthaya’s Provincial Industry Office, local police, and other relevant authorities, visited the location on 12 March, in Bang Pa-In district. The facility is believed to be the headquarters of Jianhong Chemical (Thailand) Ltd. Upon inspection, officials discovered that the warehouse was used for the illegal repackaging and storage of dangerous chemicals. Among the findings were chemicals including sodium sulfite, sodium hydroxide, and aluminum chloride, all improperly stored in over 1,700 bags. Additionally, chemicals that are regulated by the Department of Industrial Works (DIW), such as hydrogen peroxide and sodium chlorate, were found improperly stored, violating regulations concerning hazardous substances. Ms. Chotdejachai confirmed that the company had not provided any documentation proving it had received the necessary permits for handling such dangerous chemicals. These findings have led to criminal charges and the seizure of all chemicals involved. The ministry is now working to track the chemicals’ distribution network and prevent them from being used in illicit activities, including the possible production of illegal drugs. As part of the ongoing investigation, authorities also raided a rented house in Ban Sraeng, Ayutthaya, where additional chemicals were found, further linking the operation to the company’s activities. The Ministry of Industry has vowed to continue its proactive approach to prevent the illegal use and distribution of hazardous chemicals, ensuring that measures are in place to protect the safety of the public and bring those responsible to justice. This case highlights the increasing concern over the illegal storage and trafficking of dangerous chemicals, a risk that authorities are taking very seriously in order to safeguard the public from potential disasters. Picture of arrest. In a shocking case of human trafficking, an 18-year-old woman, identified as "Gift", was arrested for allegedly acting as a broker in the sexual exploitation of a 14-year-old girl. The arrest was made following an investigation led by the Anti-Trafficking in Persons Division (ATPD) of the Royal Thai Police. The operation was spearheaded by Pol. Maj. Gen. Songklod Kriakkitya, commander of the ATPD, alongside a team of officers including Pol. Col. Alongkot Kochakaew, superintendent of Division 5, ATPD, and Pol. Lt. Col. Krieng Snohsamnieng, deputy superintendent. The arrest took place at Gift's residence in Moo 6, Soi 8, Tha Lo Subdistrict, Tha Muang District, Kanchanaburi Province. The investigation began after authorities discovered a X account under the handle "@gilgnaka," allegedly operated by Gift, which advertised the sexual services of minors and young women in Kanchanaburi and nearby areas. The posts offered services for 1,000 to 1,500 baht per session. Following the discovery, police gathered evidence and obtained an arrest warrant from the Criminal Court on 21st February 2025. Undercover officers then posed as clients to arrange a meeting with the 14-year-old victim, identified as "Bee". Bee revealed that she had been contacted by Gift, who offered her work in the sex trade. Gift allegedly took a cut from each transaction as a broker's fee. This testimony led to the arrest of Gift at the scene, on 13 March. During interrogation, Gift confessed to her involvement in the sex trade, stating that she had been working in the industry since the age of 15. As she grew older, she found it increasingly difficult to attract clients, who reportedly preferred younger girls. This prompted her to transition into a brokering role, facilitating the exploitation of minors. Gift has been charged with human trafficking, procuring individuals for sexual exploitation, and other related offenses. She has been handed over to Division 5 of the ATPD for further legal proceedings. This case highlights the ongoing issue of human trafficking and the exploitation of minors in Thailand, prompting calls for stricter enforcement and preventive measures to protect vulnerable individuals. -- 2025-03-14

Pictures from responders. A pickup truck driver who allegedly fell asleep at the wheel crashed into a roadside stall in Udon Thani, leaving one woman dead and another seriously injured. The crash occurred at approximately 13:20 on 12 March near the U-turn at Ban Phasuk, on the outbound lane of Mittraphap Road (Udon Thani–Khon Kaen), in Phasuk Subdistrict, Kumphawapi District. Local police from Kumphawapi Police Station, along with emergency responders from the Prachatham Rescue Unit, rushed to the scene. Authorities found a white Toyota box truck had crashed into a makeshift stall selling khao lam (bamboo sticky rice), completely destroying it. The vehicle had then veered off the road and ended up in a nearby rice field, severely damaged. Two victims, a mother and daughter who ran the stall, were found injured. The mother, identified as Suwanna 48, suffered severe head trauma, multiple fractures, and was unconscious at the scene. Her 19-year-old daughter, Rassamee sustained injuries as well. Both were transported to Kumphawapi Hospital, where Suwanna was later pronounced dead. Police interrogated the driver, Supakit 23, a resident of Mu 13, Mueang Yang Subdistrict, Chamnni District, Buriram. He stated that he was transporting asphalt from Nong Khai to Samut Prakan, accompanied by a passenger. As he approached the U-turn, he reportedly experienced a momentary blackout due to drowsiness, causing him to lose control of the vehicle. The truck then ploughed into the roadside stall, striking both vendors before crashing into the rice field. Both the driver and his passenger suffered minor injuries. Police have charged Supakit with reckless driving causing injury and death and will proceed with legal action. -- 2025-03-14

Picture courtesy of CPD. Police officers from the Consumer Protection Division (CPD) in collaboration with the Human Trafficking Division (HTD) carried out a series of coordinated raids on 11 to 12 March, targeting the illegal production and sale of nitrous oxide (commonly known as ‘laughing gas’) balloons. The operation followed an extensive investigation into suppliers operating on Khao San Road, in Bangkok. After gathering intelligence on the source of the gas, its storage locations, and the distribution network, including its sale through online platforms, the authorities executed search warrants at nine sites across Bangkok and the surrounding provinces. The raids took place in Samut Prakan, Pathum Thani, and several districts in Bangkok, including Chatuchak, Bang Bon, Wattana, Suan Luang, Wang Thong Lang, Sathorn, and Khlong Toei. During the raids, a total of 46,246 items, were seized. This included 40,975 canisters of nitrous oxide gas, 3,698 balloons for filling with the gas, and 1,591 cylinders used for dispensing the gas. Authorities confirmed that these actions violated the Food Act of 1979, which prohibits the sale of products with incorrect labelling, punishable by fines up to 30,000 baht. Additionally, selling nitrous oxide for recreational inhalation without proper authorisation falls under the Narcotic Act of 1970, with penalties including up to five years’ imprisonment and a fine of up to 10,000 baht. Pol. Gen. Prajuab Wongsuk, Deputy Commissioner-General of the Royal Thai Police, expressed concern over the illegal distribution of nitrous oxide and reiterated the importance of law enforcement’s role in preventing harm to public health. “The National Police are committed to preventing the illegal distribution of dangerous substances like nitrous oxide and e-cigarettes, which remain banned and pose significant health risks,” he said. “This operation is part of an ongoing effort to address such issues and protect the public from harmful substances.” Authorities also raised alarm about the dangers of inhaling nitrous oxide, commonly used in balloons for recreational purposes. Nitrous oxide displaces oxygen in the body, leading to potential brain damage, unconsciousness, and even death if misused. “The substance can cause dizziness, nausea, and loss of motor control, which could lead to injuries or fatalities,” warned Suphawadee Teerawatsakul, director of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). She advised the public, particularly tourists visiting entertainment areas, to avoid using laughing gas due to its severe effects on the brain and nervous system. The CPD is continuing its investigation into the source and distribution of the seized nitrous oxide. Officials are focusing on preventing further illegal sales and are monitoring online platforms where the substance may still be offered for sale. The police have also urged citizens to report any illegal distribution or suspicious activity involving nitrous oxide or other harmful substances. The crackdown follows previous successful operations against the illegal sale of laughing gas and vaping products, with authorities reiterating that the public should stay informed about the risks associated with recreational substance misuse. -- 2025-03-14

Pictures from responders. A collision occurred in Trang province when a passenger train collided with a pickup truck at a railway crossing, resulting in four fatalities and six injuries. The incident took place at 14:40 on 13 March, in Bang Mak Subdistrict, Kantang District, when the Kantang–Bangkok Apiwat train struck a pickup truck attempting to cross the tracks. At the scene, a black half-cab pickup truck was found severely damaged, with the rear section completely wrecked. Authorities confirmed that four people died at the scene, while six others sustained injuries. Among the victims, six were inside the vehicle, while four had been sitting in the back of the truck. Eyewitnesses described hearing a loud crash and seeing bodies thrown from the vehicle in different directions. “I was selling goods nearby when I heard the impact. It was terrifying. I ran over and saw people thrown from the truck, it was shocking,” one witness recounted. The train driver stated that he had sounded the horn as the train approached the crossing, but the pickup truck failed to stop in time. Due to the speed and weight of the train, he was unable to bring it to an immediate halt, resulting in the collision. The truck’s driver survived the crash, but those sitting in the back were thrown from the vehicle, suffering serious injuries or fatal blows. Police Colonel Pradit Chaiphol, Chief of Kantang Police Station, revealed that the pickup truck was transporting workers from a black tiger prawn farm. Investigations showed that the train had been approximately 200 metres from the crossing when the driver noticed the pickup approaching. Despite repeated warning signals, the driver proceeded, leading to the crash. Following the incident, both the train driver and the pickup truck driver were tested for alcohol and drugs. While no alcohol was found in their systems, the pickup driver tested positive for drugs and admitted to having taken them before driving. Authorities have charged the pickup truck driver with reckless driving causing death. Further investigations, including interviews with survivors and witnesses, are underway as legal proceedings continue. SRT confirmed that it was an illegal shortcut constructed without permission. However as it is commonly used and for safety reasons, warning signs, traffic signs, flashing lights, and warning signs on both sides had been installed, meant to increase safety for road users. -- 2025-03-14

Picture from reenactment. A 17-year-old teenager has been arrested for fatally stabbing his 19-year-old friend at a birthday party, reportedly over a long-standing personal feud. Police from Banglamung Police Station, led by Deputy Superintendent Pol. Lt. Col. Kornpong Sookvisit, apprehended the suspect, identified as Inthakhwin, known as “Win”, following the attack on Pichat, known as “Jeab”, during a birthday gathering at a house in Banglamung District. The incident took place at approximately 11:00 on 13 March, at a residence that also operates as a boat repair workshop. The victim was stabbed in the left side of his chest, with the wound piercing his heart. Despite being rushed to Banglamung Hospital, he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival. Authorities found a 32-centimetre knife, believed to be the murder weapon, near a sofa at the crime scene. The suspect later confessed and participated in a police reconstruction of the events. According to Win, tensions between him and Jeab had been building for some time. The two had known each other for nearly two years and had previously lived together. Win claimed that he had introduced Jeab to his circle of friends and had even partnered with him in a small business venture. However, he alleged that Jeab frequently belittled him, leading to resentment. During the birthday celebration, their friends encouraged them to resolve their differences.
