The blaze started on the vessel, named Kemi (Hull No. 5000 53626), a 74-foot classic yacht with a steel hull, as it was anchored 500 meters offshore at Ao Ban Amphoe Bay in the Nakhon Chom Thian district. The fire, which broke out around0 6:30, quickly escalated in the midst of light rain. The cause of the fire remains unknown, but initial reports suggest that the fire may have started in the engine room and spread rapidly to the cabins and bridge. Upon receiving the alarm, Rapeepan Rattanaleam, the Mayor of Nakhon Chom Thian, directed local disaster prevention and relief teams to deploy fire-fighting boats, speedboats, and jet skis from Ocean Angels and Pattaya Water Sports Club. These teams worked together to contain the flames, using water to douse the fire for nearly an hour. The fire was eventually brought under control and the yacht was towed to shore, where firefighters continued to battle any remaining flames and ensure that the vessel was completely extinguished. At the time of writing, the full extent of the damage has not been determined. Chidchonok Nakkonoi, the 58-year-old owner of the yacht and a local businessman, was on board at the time of the incident. He described how, while enjoying coffee with three others on the yacht’s deck, he smelled burning and saw smoke coming from the engine room below deck. He immediately rushed to investigate, finding sparks igniting inside the engine compartment. Despite using an onboard fire extinguisher to try and contain the blaze, the fire quickly intensified. The group then fled the vessel, using the life raft to escape to safety. Chidchonok suspects that the fire was caused by an electrical short circuit, though the investigation is ongoing. Community Anthrax Death Reported in Mukdahan Province

Looking at the picture, yes some form of biosafety protocols were followed, hence protective suits, gloves and I would assume masks. A crematorium primarily uses dry heat, using hot air and flames, and normally needs temperatures greater than 760°C, to incinerate a human body. To destroy anthrax spores it is recommended in laboratories, 160°C for at least 2 hours, or 170°C for at least 1 hour, so these temperatures will be exceeded in the cremation process. The greater risk here from anthrax spores, was before cremation, at autopsy, sample taking and testing. I also would assume no embalming took place to reduce exposure risks. -

Picture courtesy of Khoasod. A Polish tourist has died after falling from the fifth floor of a condominium in Patong, Phuket, in the early hours of the morning. The incident occurred in front of his wife, who was left in a state of shock. The victim, identified as Mr Sławomir, 34, was reportedly drinking alcohol with his wife on the balcony of their fifth-floor apartment shortly before the incident. According to police, he stood up, lost his balance and fell, suffering fatal injuries. The incident was reported to Patong Police Station at 00:15 on 3 May.. Pol Lt Col Channarong Prakongkuea, an investigator at the station, responded to the scene along with forensic officers, medical examiners from Vachira Phuket Hospital, and a local rescue foundation. Mr Sławomir was found lying near the perimeter wall of the condominium building. His wife, still visibly distraught, recounted that they had been sitting on the balcony drinking when he stood up and suddenly lost his balance. Forensic doctors conducted a preliminary examination of the body at the scene, after which the remains were transferred to Vachira Phuket Hospital for a full post-mortem to determine the exact cause of death. Community Anthrax Death Reported in Mukdahan Province

The protective suits maybe unnecessary, but easier to be safe than take a risk, however extremely minimal the chances of contamination. I would expect the suits were part of the biosafety protocols issued by the Public Health Department. It also gives reassurance to the people handling the body and coffin. The World Health Organisation (WHO) state “There is no evidence of direct human-to-human transmission. However, spores may contaminate the environment or be released during handling of contaminated remains.” U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) state: “Anthrax is not known to spread from one person to another. However, anthrax spores can be present in contaminated materials, including those from deceased individuals.” Anthrax spores can survive on contaminated materials like dead animals and also in the environment for decades, especially in the soil. Cremation of a body will destroy the anthrax spores. -

Terrifying Discovery as Cobra Found in Hotel Bathroom in Krabi Picture courtesy of Kaoded. Picture courtesy of Kaoded. Tourists and hotel staff in Krabi were left horrified after a cobra measuring over three metres in length and weighing seven kilograms was discovered hiding in a communal bathroom at a hotel in the popular Ao Nang area. The startling encounter occurred on the evening of 1 May, when a hotel employee noticed something slithering into the bathroom. Upon closer inspection, they were shocked to find the giant venomous snake partially coiled behind a door. Alarmed guests raised the alert, prompting an urgent call for assistance. Responding to the call was local reptile expert “Bang Cha,” renowned for his ability to catch venomous snakes bare-handed. On arrival, he carefully used a hook to coax the cobra out from its hiding place. However, the snake, clearly agitated, reared its head and spread its hood in a classic defensive posture before striking aggressively. Bang Cha narrowly avoided the venomous bite. The snake then fled into an adjacent cubicle, climbing onto a toilet and continuing to exhibit aggressive behaviour. In a dramatic moment, Bang Cha decided to confront the cobra directly. With precision and calm, he managed to grab the snake by the head with his bare hands and safely secured it in a sack for relocation back into the wild. Hotel staff later recounted their fear, with one saying, “I was just walking past the bathroom when I saw something slither inside. I looked again and couldn’t believe it, it was a massive king cobra. We called Bang Cha immediately.” The incident sent shockwaves through the hotel, with both staff and guests visibly shaken. Fortunately, no injuries were reported, and the snake was successfully removed without harm. This is the latest in a series of snake sightings in Krabi province, where both tourists and locals are urged to remain vigilant, particularly during the rainy season when snakes are more active. Picture courtesy of Workpoint In a heartbreaking case that has sparked public concern, a 70-year-old man was found exhausted and alone at a bus stop after being abandoned by his three children, who claimed they could no longer care for him. Late at night on 1 May, residents of Pruksa 15 Village in Phraeksa Mai Subdistrict, Mueang District, Samut Prakan Province, alerted village officials after discovering an elderly man sitting wearily at a bus stop with a few personal belongings. Kanyadakorn, 53, the deputy chairwoman of the Pruksa 15 village committee, arrived to investigate and found the man, later identified as Mr Sanan, aged 70. Though visibly weak, he was able to speak. He told her that he had three children, one of whom, a daughter, had previously taken him in at her residence in the Uea-Arthorn 14 housing estate while working at the Bang Pu Industrial Estate. However, she and her siblings eventually said they could no longer afford to care for him. Mr Sanan explained that he had previously received support from local agencies but struggled to adjust to institutional care, feeling isolated and stifled. This led him to leave on foot without a clear destination. He walked over 20 kilometres from Supboonchai to the front of Pruksa 15 Village, reportedly crying as he walked, unsure where else to turn. Kanyadakorn, moved by his story, contacted Mr Sanan’s daughter using the information provided. The daughter, now relocated to Uthai Thani Province, said she earns just 300 baht a day as a casual labourer and is also responsible for raising three children. She said the siblings had tried to care for their father but found it financially impossible. Village officials have provided immediate assistance and have contacted relevant social services to ensure Mr Sanan receives the necessary care and support moving forward. The case has prompted renewed discussion about the responsibilities of families and the challenges of elderly care in modern Thai society. Adapted by Asean Now from Workpoint 2025-05-03.

Picture courtesy of Matichon. A pickup truck driver has been detained for questioning after colliding with two motorcycles on the Kaset intersection flyover, resulting in one rider plummeting onto the road below. Miraculously, both riders survived, thanks to wearing crash helmets. The incident occurred at approximately 09:35 on the morning of 2 May. Pol Lt Col Jatupong Artahan, an investigator with Bang Khen Police Station, received a report of a road crash involving a pickup truck and two motorcycles on Phahon Yothin Road, inbound towards Ratchayothin. The crash happened in the Lat Yao subdistrict of Bang Khen, Bangkok. According to witnesses, the pickup truck was driving up the centre lane of the flyover when it suddenly swerved and collided with two motorcycles travelling on the left side. The impact caused one rider to fall from the bridge, landing heavily on the road below. Emergency responders rushed to the scene. A male victim sustained injuries to his arm and back after the fall, while a female motorcyclist suffered minor injuries, including a fractured jaw and bruised leg. Both were transported to Paolo Kaset Hospital and are now in stable condition. Pol Col Supol Khamchu, deputy chief of the Metropolitan Police Division 2, confirmed that the injured parties survived largely due to wearing crash helmets. He, along with traffic police and rescue teams, was present at the scene and helped clear the road, restoring normal traffic flow within 50 minutes. Initial alcohol testing of the pickup driver returned a result of zero. However, police are continuing to question him and examine CCTV footage. Early investigations suggest the pickup did indeed veer into the motorcycles. Charges will be determined once the full inquiry is concluded. Adapted by Asean Now from Matichon 2025-05-03.

A 32-year-old boxer has been arrested after allegedly assaulting his 23-year-old girlfriend with a knife and stick in a derelict property in Udon Thani, northern Thailand. The man, identified only as Mr. Suthin, also known by his ring name “Nakrob S. Yaisa,” was found hiding naked in a bathroom at the abandoned house when police arrived. The incident took place around 17:00, on 1 May in Soi Prachanimit 12, Thai Samut Community, in the Nong Samrong area of Mueang Udon Thani district. Police were alerted by an 84-year-old local resident, Mrs. Prapai, who reported seeing a man chasing and attacking a woman with weapons before fleeing into the abandoned property. Responding swiftly, officers from Mueang Udon Thani Police Station, led by Pol. Lt. Natthawat Ladawan, entered the premises and detained the suspect without resistance. During questioning, Suthin broke down in tears, admitting to attacking his girlfriend, referred to as “Ms. Nan” . He claimed the altercation began when she slapped him first and pleaded for another chance. Suthin revealed that he was recently released from prison in February after serving time for methamphetamine possession. He had been living in the derelict house while training for boxing matches, occasionally earning money from fight circuits. He admitted to using methamphetamine again, this time by smoking residue from used foil found in the area. Ms. Nan told police she had been living with Suthin for just 3–4 days after meeting him on Facebook. She claimed they argued daily, and on the day of the incident, he became violent due to jealousy, kicking and slapping her when he saw her chatting with others. She fled for safety and said she now plans to leave him for good, stating she would rather work to support her two young children, aged three and six months. Her former partner is currently imprisoned on drug charges. Mrs. Prapai, the woman who reported the incident, said the area used to be a family-run steakhouse before being repossessed by the bank. Since then, it has been frequently occupied by vagrants. Concerned for her safety and that of the neighbourhood, especially after seeing the man assault the woman, she called the police immediately. Police conducted a urine test on Suthin, which tested positive for drug use. He now faces charges of drug abuse and posing a danger to society. If Ms. Nan chooses to press charges, he will also face prosecution for physical assault. Further investigation revealed that Suthin operates a social media account under the name “Audi Surprise Gym,” where he had recently posted a video dedicated to Ms. Nan, as well as videos of boxing practice and commentary criticising other men who are violent or involved in drug abuse, ironically claiming, “Fake me are nothing. Come face me – I’m the real deal.” Adapted by Asean Now from Matichon 2025-05-03. -

Man Crushed to Death by Hydraulic Arm in Samut Prakan A 41-year-old golf course employee, originally from Buriram, lost his life after being crushed by a hydraulic control arm while operating a small excavator at a golf course in Bang Phli district. Full story:https://aseannow.com/topic/1359604-man-crushed-to-death-by-hydraulic-arm-in-samut-prakan/ -
Picture from responders. A 41-year-old golf course employee, originally from Buriram, lost his life after being crushed by a hydraulic control arm while operating a small excavator at a golf course in Bang Phli district. The fatal incident, which occurred around 09:30 on 2 May, was captured on CCTV from a nearby staff residence. Footage shows Mr Panomyong Sinsuphon, a golf course worker, seated at the rear hydraulic control station of a small tractor fitted with a bucket attachment and used for digging irrigation trenches. While operating the machinery, the control station and hydraulic arm suddenly lifted and twisted, compressing his body against the steel frame of the cabin roof. He was pinned at the neck and chest and became unresponsive. At the time of the incident, Mr Panomyong was alone. A colleague, Mr Teerawat, 35, who had briefly left to collect equipment, returned to find him trapped and immediately sought help from nearby staff. A second excavator was used in an attempt to pry the arm away and release Mr Panomyong’s body. Despite efforts to resuscitate him while emergency services were called, he was pronounced dead at the scene. Volunteers from the Ruamkatanyu Foundation responded quickly, followed by officers from Bang Phli Police Station and a forensic team from Chakri Naruebodindra Institute of Medicine. An initial examination revealed the cause of death to be severe chest trauma due to crushing force. Mr Teerawat explained that the team had been laying water pipelines using the machinery. He believed the victim may have attempted to move the vehicle forward using the hydraulic bucket, instead of repositioning himself in the driver’s seat, leading to the fatal malfunction. Mr Sutat, 53, the site supervisor, later clarified that the machine had undergone routine maintenance and showed no signs of mechanical failure. He suggested that Mr Panomyong’s improvised method of operation, using the hydraulic bucket to push the machine forward while seated behind the control panel, likely led to the incident. The company has notified both social security and the internal insurance provider. Additional financial support will be offered to Mr Panomyong’s family. The deceased’s body has been transferred to the forensic unit at Chakri Naruebodindra Institute for post-mortem examination. Relatives have been contacted to arrange religious rites and funeral proceedings. Adapted by Asean Now 2025-05-03.

The incident occurred at a department store on Ratchadamri Road in the city’s Pathum Wan district. According to Pol Lt Col Pongphan Polhan of Lumpini Police Station, the man jumped from the upper level and landed on the third-floor terrace, where he was found unresponsive. He was wearing a green collared shirt and grey shorts. His body bore severe injuries, including a fractured skull and broken limbs. Witness Ms Piyawadee, who was inside the mall at the time, said she heard a loud noise resembling something heavy falling. When she went to investigate, she discovered the man’s lifeless body and immediately alerted the authorities. Emergency services, including forensic officers, doctors from Chulalongkorn Hospital, and a local rescue foundation, quickly arrived at the scene. Upon investigation, they traced the incident back to the seventh floor, where they found the man’s father waiting. The father reported that he had been dining with his son on the fifth floor when the latter excused himself, saying he wanted to pay respects at the shrine of Lord Shiva located on the seventh floor. When his son did not return, the father began searching for him, only to learn moments later that his son had fallen. Police believe the man took his own life, citing that he had been undergoing psychiatric treatment for depression. His body has been sent to Chulalongkorn Hospital’s forensic unit for autopsy.
