Picture from responders. The body of an unidentified foreigner was discovered floating face down in the sea off Jomtien Beach on the afternoon of January 16. Police are working to identify the individual and determine the cause of death. Pol. Lt. Sanan Kotanont, an investigator from Pattaya City Police (Dong Tan Curve Substation), received a report of the grim discovery at 13:30. The body was spotted near Jomtien Soi 14, Bang Lamung District, Chonburi. Police and rescue teams from the Sawang Boriboon Foundation rushed to the scene. Marine rescue personnel launched a rubber boat to locate the body, which was found approximately 200 metres from the shore. The body was brought back to the beach for examination. Initial inspections revealed that the deceased was a foreign male, estimated to be 50–60 years old. The man was wearing only white swimming trunks, and no signs of physical assault were found on his body. Authorities believe the man had been dead for 7–8 hours prior to being discovered. Police recorded the incident and have sent the body to the Police General Hospital’s Institute of Forensic Medicine in Bangkok for an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death. Investigators are also working to establish the man’s identity. Mr. Wallop Boonchu, an official from the Marine Disaster Prevention Unit, stated that the body was initially reported by a local business operator in Jomtien, who noticed what appeared to be a human body floating face down in the sea. Rescue teams quickly deployed a rubber boat to investigate, ultimately confirming the report and retrieving the body. -- 2025-01-17

Picture from responders A crash occurred on 15 January, involving a tanker carrying 16,000 litres of diesel and a 22-wheel trailer truck on the Saohai Bypass flyover in Saraburi. The crash resulted in a significant diesel spill on the road and surrounding areas, prompting emergency response teams to act swiftly. Pol. Capt. Sompong Pomkaset of Saraburi Police Station received a report of the incident from the 191 emergency hotline. He immediately dispatched officers, along with rescue teams from the Sawang Rattanatruay Foundation, firefighters from Saraburi Municipality, and the Saraburi Highway Department, under the direction of District Chief Atthakarn Jitthawin. At the scene, a severely damaged Isuzu tanker (registration from Saraburi) was found with diesel spilling onto the bridge and the road below. The driver, identified as Mr. Yothin sustained injuries and was rushed to Saraburi Hospital by rescue workers. Approximately 10 metres away, the 22-wheel trailer truck (registration from Saraburi) was found with its rear heavily damaged, blocking the bridge. The truck’s driver, Mr. Sarawut Sridet, 47, was unharmed. Firefighters quickly disconnected the electrical systems of both vehicles. The Saraburi Highway Department used sand to cover the diesel spill to reduce the risk of vehicles skidding and causing further incidents. Police have begun an investigation into the incident and have taken the trailer truck driver in for questioning. Preliminary reports suggest that the tanker may have failed to notice the stopped trailer truck as it ascended the incline, leading to the collision. The manager of the tanker company, who remains unnamed, stated that the diesel was being transported from the Pokpaek oil depot to a Bangchak petrol station in Chaloem Phra Kiat District, Saraburi. Mr. Sarawut, the trailer truck driver, explained that his truck had appeared to stall, prompting his assistant to exit the vehicle to check the tyres. Moments later, the collision occurred. -- 2025-01-17

UPDATE Injured Tiger Relocated for Treatment A team of veterinarians and park officials have successfully relocated an injured tiger, the victim of a hunter’s snare, from Bueng Chawak Wildlife Management Centre to the Huai Kha Khaeng Wildlife Breeding Station for further treatment and rehabilitation. Picture courtesy of Matichon. A team of veterinarians and park officials have successfully relocated an injured tiger, the victim of a hunter’s snare, from Bueng Chawak Wildlife Management Centre to the Huai Kha Khaeng Wildlife Breeding Station for further treatment and rehabilitation. Ms. Sawitree Chueapong, head of Pu Toei National Park, reported that the tiger had been found injured outside the park’s boundary after becoming ensnared in a trap. On 15 January 2025, Ms. Sawitree led a team of specialists in transporting the tiger over 140 kilometres. The operation concluded successfully, with the tiger arriving safely at Huai Kha Khaeng at approximately 22:00. The transfer aimed to ensure the tiger could recover in a semi-natural environment under the care of experienced wildlife specialists. The relocation was conducted in accordance with Thailand’s 2022 regulations on the treatment of wildlife. The tiger’s treatment is being overseen by a team led by Dr. Laksana Prasitichai and Dr. Nathanon Panphet, both expert veterinarians. During the initial assessment, the team performed several critical procedures: • Implanting a microchip in the tiger’s left shoulder (ID: 900012000109105) to enable tracking and identification. • Collecting blood and fluid samples to test for infectious diseases specific to tigers. • Conducting general blood and biochemical analyses. • Gathering genetic samples for future research. These samples will be sent to laboratories at Mahidol University’s Faculty of Veterinary Science and the Wildlife Forensic Science Centre under the Department of National Parks, Wildlife, and Plant Conservation for further analysis. Throughout the journey, veterinarians closely monitored the tiger’s condition to ensure its safety. The team will continue to provide updates on the tiger’s recovery and progress. This case underscores the challenges posed by illegal poaching and the importance of Thailand’s ongoing efforts to protect endangered wildlife. Further investigations into the use of snares in the region are expected. Picture from responders. A 77-year-old man died after falling from a durian tree in Chanthaburi province. He is believed to have fainted, hit his head on a rock, and drowned in a water channel below. The incident occurred at approximately 15:30 on January 15 in a durian orchard located in Soi Chao Pu Wang Hin, Moo 4, Wang Yao subdistrict, Khlung district. Local police were alerted by Mr. Thongdaeng, 75, the orchard owner and friend of the deceased. Police officers from Khlung Police Station and rescue teams from Khlung Foundation immediately arrived at the scene. The orchard spans about one rai, with the durian tree from which the man fell standing two metres tall beside a channel containing about 40 cm of water. The body of the deceased, identified as Mr.Wi, a resident of Moo 7, Ban Tha Muang, Khlung district, was found face down in the water. Nearby, a metal ladder leaned against the durian tree, with evidence of branch pruning in progress. A saw and a black cap were found near a rock. The cap bore impact marks consistent with the head wound observed on the deceased. Mr. Thongdaeng explained that he had hired the deceased to prune durian branches earlier in the day. After a lunch break, the man resumed work around 14:00. When he noticed that his friend had not returned after a lengthy period, Mr. Thongdaeng went to check and discovered the lifeless body in the channel. Police suspect the man may have fainted while working, falling from the ladder and hitting his head on the rock before drowning. Lieutenant Komkrit Somjit, the investigating officer, documented the scene and collected evidence. The body has been sent to Khlung Hospital for an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death. -- 2025-01-16

Picture from responders. A heart-wrenching scene unfolded in Kamphaeng Phet when a mother arrived at the site of her son’s fatal motorcycle crash, only to collapse in grief upon seeing his lifeless body. The incident occurred at 01:10 on January 15, on the Khlong Khlung Bridge, which spans the Ping River in Moo 2, Tha Makuea subdistrict, Khlong Khlung district. Police Lieutenant Chatchanon Sanitmak from Khlong Khlung Police Station, along with local rescue teams, rushed to the scene after being alerted to a collision involving multiple motorcycles and a car, which left one person dead and several others injured. Upon arrival, authorities found a silver Honda Accord, registered in Kamphaeng Phet, blocking the bridge. The car’s front end was damaged, though the identity of the driver remains undisclosed. Nearby, a blue-black Honda Wave motorcycle with a sidecar used to sell grilled chicken was found overturned. The vehicle’s occupants, Mr. Paramat, 35, and Ms. Supawan, 31, sustained critical injuries and were rushed to Khlong Khlung Hospital for treatment. A short distance away lay another motorcycle, a red-white Honda Wave, also registered in Kamphaeng Phet. Its driver, 35-year-old Mr. Thawatchai, was found dead at the scene. His body bore multiple injuries, with head injuries and broken arms and legs. Debris from the crash was scattered across the bridge. Mr. Thawatchai’s mother, 54-year-old Ms. Boonpeng, arrived at the scene in tears, crying out, “Why didn’t you come home? Why didn’t you listen to me?” before fainting on the road. Rescue workers assisted her, preventing her from approaching her son’s body. Police temporarily closed the bridge to traffic while clearing debris and removing the vehicles involved. Preliminary investigations suggest that Mr. Thawatchai was attempting to overtake the grilled chicken motorcycle but failed to do so in time, colliding head-on with the oncoming Honda Accord. The driver of the car, who sustained minor injuries, was taken to the police station for questioning at Khlong Khlung Police Station. The body of the deceased was sent for autopsy. -- 2025-01-16

Sorry but an inspection of what and how would it prevent this fire? There were no injuries and a fire safety inspection will focus on life safety measures, such as escape routes, signage, emergency lighting and staff training. Are you really sure that every premises in the US gets a annual inspection and it is not based on a risk assessment of how high a hazard posed. If this type of building contained no flammable storage, it would be low risk and if it was just a top floor store room, any inspection would just see that the storage was tidy. This type of fire is a common occurrence worldwide, even in the US.

Picture from responders. Rescue workers in Rayong were called to an unusual scene in the early hours of the morning of January 15, after a love triangle led to a dramatic attempt by a man and two women to drive into the sea. Fortunately, their car became stuck in the sand, preventing any potential tragedy. The incident occurred at approximately 01:00 at Laem Charoen Beach in Pak Nam Subdistrict, Rayong Province. The Sawang Porakun Rayong Foundation rescue team received a report that a white car was attempting to drive into the sea. Upon arrival, they found the vehicle stranded in the sand with no occupants inside. Nearby, strands of women's hair were scattered across the sand. Rescue workers began searching the area and located three individuals, one man and two women, near a seawall. All three were wet and shivering from the cold. They were immediately transported to Rayong Hospital for medical evaluation. Eyewitnesses recounted seeing the white car circling the area several times before accelerating onto the beach. As the vehicle became lodged in the sand, the male driver reportedly exited the car and ran into the sea. The two female passengers followed shortly after, engaging in a heated argument before also entering the water. The cold weather apparently forced them to return to shore. Initial investigations revealed that the three individuals were embroiled in a love triangle. Unable to resolve their dispute, they decided to end their lives together by driving into the sea. Their plans were thwarted when the car became stuck in the sandy beach. The rescue workers' timely response likely prevented the situation from escalating further. Local authorities are continuing to investigate the incident, while the three individuals are receiving care and support. -- 2025-01-16

Picture courtesy of ECDD Police arrested a British man at Suvarnabhumi Airport for allegedly defrauding his Thai wife and forging documents to sell company shares worth over 20 million baht. The suspect, however, continues to deny the charges. On January 15, Colonel Theerapat Yangyuen, Commander of Division 3, Economic Crime Suppression Division (ECDD), and Police Lieutenant Worapoj Lallitjirakul, an inspector with the same unit, apprehended the individual identified only as Mr. Quentin, a British national, under a warrant issued by Pattaya Provincial Court on December 24, 2024. The charges include providing false statements and instructing officials to record false information in official documents. Investigations revealed that Mr. Quentin was previously a director of a company based in Pattaya, Chonburi province, where his Thai wife was a business partner. The company had purchased land as its headquarters. Mr. Quentin allegedly reported the company’s land deed as missing to obtain a replacement deed. Using the forged documents, obtained from a falsified police report , he is accused of secretly selling the company’s land and shares to a third party, valued at over 20 million baht. The alleged fraud came to light when the wife, a co-shareholder, discovered the sale and reported it to the ECDD, leading to the court-ordered warrant for Mr. Quentin’s arrest. Authorities received a tip-off that Mr. Quentin was returning to Thailand via Suvarnabhumi Airport, where officers detained him upon arrival. During questioning, Mr. Quentin denied all allegations. He has been handed over to the ECDD Division 3 for further legal proceedings. -- 2025-01-16
