Picture from responders. A strange rescue occurred after a middle-aged man from Nakhon Ratchasima found himself in an unexpected predicament when he became trapped inside a water tank while attempting to repair it. The man had entered the tank to fix a malfunctioning float switch, but once inside, he was unable to climb back out. Emergency responders from the Phoklang Subdistrict Municipality’s Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Division received a distress call and quickly arrived at the scene. Upon inspection, they discovered the man, who was partially submerged, with only his head and chest visible above the water tank opening. The rescue team had to use a ladder to scale the wall of the house before pulling the man out to safety. The man explained that he had attempted to repair the faulty float switch inside the tank. However, after completing the repair, he found himself unable to climb out due to the tank’s height and its slippery interior. Despite his efforts to push himself upwards, he couldn’t escape. With only elderly family members and children in the house, he was unable to get assistance and eventually called for help. The man was unharmed, though shaken, after the rescue. -- 2025-01-15

Picture from responders. A motorcyclist lost his life in the early hours of 14 January following a crash on Rojana Road in Ayutthaya. The crash occurred around kilometre marker 10 in Sam Ruean Subdistrict, Bang Pa-In District. Police Lieutenant Thaworn Saengsai, Deputy Investigator of Bang Pa-In Police Station, was notified of the incident at 05:00 and immediately dispatched officers to the scene, along with rescue personnel from the Ayutthaya Ruamjai Foundation. At the scene, responders found the lifeless body of Mr. Alit aged 22, a resident of Bo Ta Lo Subdistrict, Wang Noi District, Ayutthaya. He was wearing a winter jacket and was lying on his back in the far-right lane near the central road divider. He had suffered a fatal head injury, and nearby, his black full-face helmet was found in the road, damaged from the impact. Approximately 50 metres away, a red Yamaha Fino motorcycle was discovered overturned in the middle of the road, with noticeable scratches on both sides. Mr. Panya Chumanee, a representative of the Ayutthaya Ruamjai Foundation, stated that the team had received a report from local residents about a motorcycle crash, leaving an unconscious man lying on the road. Eyewitnesses explained that the motorcyclist had collided with the central road divider. Although the victim was wearing a helmet, the force of the crash caused it to dislodge and ripped off, leaving his head vulnerable to the fatal impact with a tree and the divider. Police investigators identified a long scrape mark on the road and the central divider, along with scattered debris from the motorcycle. Preliminary findings suggest that the victim lost control of his motorcycle, hitting the road divider with significant force, which led to his helmet coming off. The victim’s body has been sent to the Institute of Forensic Science at the Ministry of Justice in Pathum Thani for a thorough post-mortem examination. Authorities are working to contact the victim’s family so they can retrieve his body as the investigation continues. -- 2025-01-15

Picture from responders. A 28-year-old man with a history of mental health issues went into a violent outburst at his home in Nakhon Ratchasima on 14 January, destroying property and claiming that people had been planting drugs at his house. The incident, which took place at a residence in the Samrong Chai area of Phimai district, prompted a call to the police. At approximately 11:10, local authorities were alerted to the disturbance. Upon arrival, officers from the Phimai Police Station, accompanied by a 191 patrol unit, found the man, later identified as Mr. Saranyu, standing shirtless and wearing shorts outside his house. Inside, he had been rampaging through the property, destroying items in a manic episode. The police were soon joined by his mother, Mrs. Tatsanee and several nearby residents, who attempted to calm the situation. Mr. Saranyu, speaking erratically, claimed that he had been living with his grandmother at the house, but that she was no longer there. He explained that a car parked near the house had been involved in an accident, with people blaming him for the incident. In a confused state, he ranted about being accused unjustly and insisted that people were planting drugs in his home. Mrs. Tatsanee explained that her son had been diagnosed with a mental illness and had a past history of drug abuse. Despite attempts to seek treatment for him, he had refused to visit doctors and often disposed of his medication by either throwing it away or dissolving it in water. During his recent outbursts, he had verbally lashed out, destroyed household items, and damaged a car parked outside, smashing its windows. Although Mr. Saranyu had never physically harmed anyone, his mother was concerned about his worsening condition and feared that the situation might escalate into a more dangerous incident. She pleaded for the police to intervene and help transport him to a medical facility for treatment, as she was unable to convince him to seek help on his own. In an effort to de-escalate the situation, officers managed to gain Mr. Saranyu’s trust by offering him a small amount of money to buy snacks. As the situation calmed, he continued to insist that people were planting drugs around his home and that he had never done anything wrong. After a prolonged period of negotiation, the authorities successfully managed to escort Mr. Saranyu to a hospital for treatment. -- 2025-01-15

Picture from responders. An incident occurred on the morning of 14 January when a van overturned, killing a 24-year-old man instantly. The incident took place at around 07:00 on a four-lane road near Ban Bua Temple in Ban Bua Subdistrict, Mueang District, Buriram Province. Police Lieutenant Colonel Pornchai Bamrungsin, Deputy Inspector of Mueang Buriram Police Station, received the report and coordinated with the Sawang Janyatham Rescue Unit and Ban Bua Municipality Emergency Services to investigate the scene. At the site, a silver Toyota van (registration number from Rayong) was found overturned on the central reservation of the Nang Rong-Buriram inbound road. Two light poles were damaged, and the driver, identified as Mr. Athiwat Kankanram, 24, from Prakhieab Subdistrict, Ku Muang District, Buriram, was found lifeless near the van. He had sustained a severe head injury and died at the scene. Mr. Phanuwat Tuakphan, 30, from Tha Sawang Subdistrict, Mueang District, Surin, was a passenger in the van and recounted the events leading up to the crash. He stated that he, the deceased, and another team member had been instructed by their employer, a car dealership owner in Satuek District, Buriram, to retrieve two vans from Chonburi. One van was operational, while the other required towing. The team departed Buriram on the evening of 13 January, arriving in Chonburi at around 01:00 on 14 January. After securing the non-operational van onto a tow truck, Mr. Athiwat drove the second van while Mr. Phanuwat rested in the back seat. According to Mr. Phanuwat, he was asleep and unaware of the crash until he was jolted awake by a loud impact and the van rolling over. When the vehicle came to a stop, he crawled out and discovered Mr. Athiwat lying outside the van, bleeding heavily. Emergency services arrived shortly afterwards. Preliminary investigations suggest that fatigue may have been a factor, as Mr. Athiwat had not slept the previous night and is believed to have dozed off at the wheel. Additionally, he was not wearing a seatbelt, which may have caused him to be ejected from the vehicle upon impact. Authorities have launched a detailed investigation to confirm the exact cause of the crash. -- 2025-01-15

Picture from responders. A 28-year-old woman, overwhelmed by financial stress after losing 4 million baht in a failed investment, tragically took her own life on January 13. The incident occurred at a townhouse in Soi Phibulsongkhram 22, Sai 6, Suan Yai sub-district, Mueang Nonthaburi district. Pol Lt Chaiyong Aunmahong, Deputy Inspector of Mueang Nonthaburi Police Station, along with forensic doctors and Ruamkatanyu Foundation personnel, arrived at the scene to investigate. The deceased, identified as Ms. Jirapach (nickname "Nim"), was found in the kitchen at the back of her two-story townhouse. She had used a red nylon rope to hang herself from the kitchen beam. Dressed in a black t-shirt and red trousers, her body was discovered alongside a ladder, believed to have been used to secure the rope before taking her own life. A handwritten note was found at the scene, reading: "I'm sorry, but I can't go on anymore. Please forgive my family and do not hold them accountable. There's no need to spend money on my body. Just cremate me." Relatives revealed that Ms. Jirapach, the owner of a nail salon in Bangkok, had invested heavily in the Forex-3D scheme, using her savings and borrowing from informal lenders to amass 4 million baht. Initially, the returns seemed promising, but when pressured by representatives to invest more, she borrowed an additional 1.5 million baht from her South Korean husband. Ultimately, the investment collapsed, leaving her with mounting debts and no way to recover her funds. Her stress and financial troubles were evident to those around her, with relatives reporting that she frequently spoke of wanting to end her life. A neighbour also noted that they often heard her crying late at night but were unaware of the extent of her struggles. Investigators suspect that the victim's financial distress, coupled with concerns about her family being impacted by her debts, led to her tragic decision. Her mother, currently travelling from Sakon Nakhon, is expected to arrive and to claim the body and arrange funeral rites. If you or anyone you know is in emotional distress, please contact the Samaritans of Thailand 24-hour hotline: 02 713 6791 (English), 02 713 6793 (Thai) or the Thai Mental Health Hotline at 1323 (Thai). Please also contact your friends or relatives at this time if you have feelings of loneliness, stress or depression. Seek out help. -- 2025-01-15

Pictures from responders. A 33-year-old Chinese tourist lost his life after a jet ski collision in Patong Bay earlier afternoon on January 14.The incident occurred at approximately 14:30 near the dolphin park area of Patong Beach, Kathu District. Pol. Capt. Thapapon Paengphimlo, an investigator from Patong Police Station, received a report from a local jet ski rental operator about the incident. Lifeguards stationed at Patong Beach quickly rescued the injured man from the sea and brought him ashore. Emergency medical responders from Patong Municipality and the Kusoldharm Foundation attempted to revive him at the scene before transferring him to Patong Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. The deceased was identified as Mr. Liu Hong Chao, 33, a Chinese national. The collision occurred roughly 200 metres from the shore in Patong Bay. According to the investigation, Mr. Liu’s jet ski collided with another jet ski operated by his friend, Mr. Lyu Zhifeng, 28, also a Chinese national. Lifeguards interviewed Mr. Lyu, who confirmed the collision, which left Mr. Liu critically injured. Officers inspected both jet skis involved in the accident, documenting visible damage as evidence. Pol. Col. Chaloemchai Hoernsawat, Chief of Patong Police Station, and Pol. Lt. Wichet Suwannano, Deputy Inspector, inspected the scene alongside medical examiners from Patong Hospital. A detailed examination of the crash site and the jet skis is underway to determine the circumstances leading to the accident. Chalermpong Saengdee, Member of Parliament for Phuket’s District 2, who was in the area to review safety, expressed his condolences over the incident and emphasised the urgent need for stricter safety measures for water sports activities. He stressed the importance of increasing oversight and regulation by local authorities, including the Phuket Marine Office, the Marine Police, the local police, and tourism operators offering water-related activities. Mr Saengdee called for thorough briefings to be given to tourists renting jet skis, particularly highlighting the dangers and safety protocols of operating such equipment in public waters. He pointed out that incidents like this one, where a tourist was killed in a jet ski collision, highlight the need for better communication between service providers and tourists. In addition, Mr Saengdee referred to another recent tragic event on 5 January, when a parasailing instructor fell to his death at Karon Beach. He further suggested that water sports operators must provide tourists with comprehensive information and ensure they understand safety precautions before participating in activities. He emphasised the importance of wearing life jackets and having insurance, as well as essential safety measures, particularly for tourists engaging in water activities. This would help cover any unexpected accidents or mishaps, offering a layer of protection for those using water sports equipment. The MP also expressed concern over the growing number of water-related incidents in the region, which could impact Phuket’s tourism industry. He mentioned a recent incident where a boat capsized near Racha Island, causing panic among 38 tourists and crew members. Mr Saengdee called on the relevant authorities, including the Department of Marine and Coastal Resources, to clarify the safety measures in place and ensure that Phuket is ready to safeguard the wellbeing of tourists while maintaining its reputation as a premier tourist destination in Thailand. -- 2025-01-15 -

Picture from funeral. A different problem occurred on January 12, at Wat Pradu Lai crematorium in Klong Mae Lai Subdistrict, Mueang District, Kamphaeng Phet Province, at the funeral of Mr. Wiwat, a 36-year-old man weighing 300kg. Due to his unusually large size, both in weight and build, the cremation process presented numerous difficulties, requiring the assistance of many people. Mr. Wiwat passed away on January 10, from multiple complications, including kidney disease, diabetes, hypertension, and high blood sugar. He had been admitted to Kamphaeng Phet Hospital on January 9 with severe breathing difficulties after being transported by a local rescue team. The body, wrapped in a white shroud as it could not fit into a traditional coffin, was carried by several villagers and crematorium workers. Following traditional rituals, the body was paraded around the crematorium before attempts were made to place it inside the furnace. Despite numerous efforts using iron bars and wooden poles, the task remained unsuccessful even after more than an hour of pushing, as the body would not pass through the opening. The turning point came when Mr. Somnuk, the deceased’s 59-year-old father, spoke emotionally to his son: “Golf, please go in. Your father and everyone else are tired.” Soon after, the body began to inch into the furnace, finally fitting entirely. The ceremony continued amid astonishment and murmurs from attendees, many of whom remarked they had never witnessed such a challenging cremation before. Mr. Somnuk expressed his gratitude to community leaders and villagers for their assistance, recounting the hardships faced in both caring for his son during his illness and conducting the funeral. He explained that even transporting his son to the hospital required a specialised vehicle due to his size. -- 2025-01-14

Picture from responders, CCTV below. An incident unfolded on the Pho Phra Ya-Tha Ruea road in Ayutthaya’s Tha Ruea district on January 13, as a six-wheel truck transporting fresh chicken parts crashed into the rear of a trailer truck. The driver of the six-wheel truck was pronounced dead at the scene, and chicken parts were strewn across the road. The incident occurred around 11:45 with police officers from Tha Ruea Police Station and rescue teams from Ayutthaya Ruam Jai Association responding to the scene. Upon arrival, they found a severely damaged white six-wheel truck with Suphan Buri registration plates, filled with containers of fresh chicken parts. The driver, later identified as Mr Boonlert, 57, from Suphan Buri, was trapped in the wreckage. Rescue teams used hydraulic cutting equipment to extract his body. The trailer truck, registered in Loei province, was loaded with fertiliser and showed damage to the rear of its trailer. The driver, Mr Weerachat, 43, explained that he had been delivering fertiliser from Kalasin and was preparing to turn left into a warehouse when he heard a loud crash. He discovered that the six-wheel truck had slammed into the back of his vehicle. CCTV footage revealed that the trailer truck had slowed down to make the turn when the six-wheel truck, following closely behind, failed to stop in time and collided at speed. The impact scattered chicken parts and containers across the road, leaving a long trail of brake marks leading up to the point of collision. Police are continuing their investigation, reviewing CCTV footage and gathering witness statements, including testimony from Mr Weerachat. Legal proceedings will follow in line with the findings of the investigation. -- 2025-01-14 ScreenRecording_01-13-2025 19-33-16_1.mp4
