Picture from responders. A police sergeant suffering from depression tragically took his own life in front of colleagues and a supervisor at Samko Police Station on January 8. The incident occurred around noon near the station's accommodation area in Samko Subdistrict, Samko District. Police and rescue personnel responded to the scene, where they found the victim, a 33-year-old police sergeant working in the administrative division of Samko Police Station, lying in a pool of blood. He had sustained a gunshot wound to the right temple, with the bullet exiting through the left side of his head. Despite being rushed to Samko Hospital, he succumbed to his injuries. At the scene, investigators found a 9mm Glock 19 pistol, along with an open can of alcohol. The firearm and other evidence were collected for forensic examination. Witnesses revealed that earlier in the morning, the sergeant had been drinking beer while seated near the accommodation area and was seen walking back and forth with the pistol in hand. At one point, he fired a shot into a drainage canal, prompting his colleagues to intervene. They attempted to calm him and called in a supervisor for assistance. During the conversation, the sergeant appeared increasingly distressed. To the shock of those present, he suddenly raised the pistol to his temple and fired a single fatal shot. Efforts to save his life proved unsuccessful, and his supervisor, who witnessed the incident, was left in shock and required medical attention. Pol. Col. Kantapon Thanatippinsakul, Superintendent of Samko Police Station, stated that the sergeant was known as a diligent officer but had been battling depression and was undergoing treatment at Samko Hospital. Colleagues reported no warning signs or unusual behaviour prior to the tragedy. Authorities have collected evidence from the scene and will send the body to the Institute of Forensic Medicine. The sergeant's family has been notified and will be interviewed to determine any underlying factors that may have led to the incident. Fire Breaks Out at Waste Sorting Facility in Samut Sakhon A fire broke out at Samut Sakhon Natural Clean Energy Co., Ltd., located at 65/1 Moo 3, Bang Thorat Subdistrict, Mueang District, Samut Sakhon Province. Picture from responders. At approximately 21:30 on 7 January 2025, a fire broke out at Samut Sakhon Natural Clean Energy Co., Ltd., located at 65/1 Moo 3, Bang Thorat Subdistrict, Mueang District, Samut Sakhon Province. The facility specialises in sorting municipal solid waste for recycling and disposal. The fire erupted inside one of the facility’s four warehouses, covering an area of approximately two rai. Firefighters from Bang Thorat Subdistrict Administrative Organisation (SAO), along with support from nearby areas, dispatched over 20 fire engines to tackle the blaze and prevent it from spreading to the other three warehouses. A large water reservoir adjacent to the factory proved instrumental as a suitable and adequate water supply, in the firefighting efforts. After several hours of efforts, the fire was brought under control. Samut Sakhon Governor Narit Niramaivong, Mueang District Chief Rattanapan Thueksakul, and Anutat Pangputhipong, Head of the Provincial Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Office, were on site to oversee operations. Preliminary investigations led by Pol. Sub. Lt. Tanachot Laopoonphon from Bang Thorat Police Station revealed that the fire likely started due to excessive heat build up, caused by the compression of waste piles. A foreign worker at the facility reported that no one else. was present in the warehouse at the time of the incident. The worker, responsible for loading waste onto conveyor belts, stated that the fire began as a small blaze but quickly escalated within five minutes, prompting an urgent call for emergency services. The affected warehouse housed unprocessed municipal waste awaiting sorting. Damage was confined to the building, conveyor machinery, and waste piles. Authorities will now collaborate with forensic investigators from the Samut Sakhon Provincial Police to determine the exact cause of the fire. Samut Sakhon Natural Clean Energy Co., Ltd. operates as a municipal waste sorting and recycling business, producing compacted waste bales for sale to industries or disposal facilities. The company sends non-recyclable waste to authorised disposal sites in compliance with legal regulations. -- 2025-01-09

Picture from responders. An undercover informant working for law enforcement was shot dead in a brutal attack on the night of January 7, in a suspected act of retaliation by a drug network. The victim, identified as Mr. Kolawit, 25, was ambushed and killed along a roadside in Moo 8, Phla Subdistrict, Khlong Thom District. Authorities reported that the attackers used a military-grade firearm to carry out the assault, shooting the victim at close range. Police recovered 16 bullet casings and two bullets at the scene, a road through a rubber plantation. At approximately noon on January 8, Krabi law enforcement officials, including Pol. Col. Pisanu Achchanapornkul and Pol. Col. Chavalit Phetsripia, conducted a thorough inspection of the crime scene. Evidence suggested that the victim may have been lured to the location via a phone call. Investigators believe Mr. Kolawit stopped his motorbike at the site, as indicated by a cigarette butt found near his body. The investigation revealed that the victim had earlier visited a makeshift shelter in a rubber plantation approximately 500 metres away from the site of the shooting. No additional evidence was discovered at that location. Preliminary police findings suggest the attackers were members of a drug network seeking revenge against the victim for his role as an informant. Officers are now reviewing CCTV footage from near the area to track the suspects and bring them to justice. Mrs. Surin Sutthikerd, the assistant village head of Moo 8, recounted hearing gunfire from her nearby home around 22:00. Her son alerted her after hearing a rapid succession of shots from the plantation. "I heard more than ten gunshots in quick succession. When I arrived at the scene, I found him already dead," she said. Mrs. Surin described the victim as someone not particularly law- abiding, with a history of possible involvement in illegal activities, though he was not known to have conflicts with others in the village. The police investigation is ongoing as authorities work to apprehend those responsible for this violent crime. -- 2025-01-09

Man Dies in Warming Fire Incident in Surin A strange occurrence claimed the life of a 42-year-old man after he fell from his bed and sustained fatal burns while sleeping near a fire lit for warmth. Full story:https://aseannow.com/topic/1348319-man-dies-in-warming-fire-incident-in-surin/ -
Picture from responders. A strange occurrence claimed the life of a 42-year-old man after he fell from his bed and sustained fatal burns while sleeping near a fire lit for warmth. The incident occurred in Nong Kathin Village, Si Suk Subdistrict, Sri Narong District, and was reported early on the morning of 8 January. Responding to the call, members of the Surin News Association’s Disaster Relief Department, medical examiners from Sri Narong Hospital, and officers from Sri Narong Police Station attended the scene. Upon arrival, authorities discovered the man lying face down in the remains of the fire. He was wearing a long-sleeved blue shirt, and his face and head showed severe burn injuries. His legs were still resting on the bed, indicating that he had fallen off while asleep and his body had no other visible injuries. Relatives confirmed that the deceased had no underlying health conditions, but did drink and expressed no suspicions surrounding his death. It is believed that the man, like many others in rural areas during the cold season, had lit a fire to stay warm during the night, as he slept outdoors. Unfortunately, this common practice appears to have resulted in his death. The body was sent to hospital for an autopsy to confirm the cause of death and will be released to the family if no suspicious circumstances are found. Authorities are reminding the public of the dangers of using open flames for heating during the winter months. They urge residents to ensure fires are either extinguished or in a safe location, before sleeping and to take precautions to avoid similar incidents. -- 2025-01-09

Dog Fatally Attacks 84 Year Old Owner at Home in Saraburi An incident occurred in a village in Saraburi province, where an elderly man was killed after being attacked by his own dog. Picture of dog from responders. An incident occurred in a village in Saraburi province, where an elderly man was killed after being attacked by his own dog. The attack took place at the man's home in the Dinso Pong community, Tambon Thap Kwang, Kaeng Khoi district, with the body discovered at approximately 08.00 on January 8th. Authorities from the Ruamkatanyu Foundation responded to the scene, where they discovered signs of a violent struggle. Blood stains were found scattered across the ground beneath the wooden house, with belongings in disarray. A male mixed breed dog, reported as a cross between a Thai breed and a Pitbull, was found chained up at the scene, barking loudly. The victim, 84-year-old Khun Tee, was found lying lifeless on the floor under the house, in front of a bathroom. His right arm had been severely maimed, with flesh completely torn away and missing, leaving only bone, from the elbow to the wrist. The left arm had numerous bite marks, suggesting the dog had attacked him viciously. A pool of dried blood covered his body, indicating the attack had taken place some time before the body was discovered. Emergency services took the body to Kaeng Khoi Hospital for an initial examination before sending it to the Forensic Institute in Nakhon Nayok for further investigation to confirm the cause of death. The victim's son, 52-year-old Prayong, explained that the dog, named "Ja Dam," was a beloved pet that his father had raised from a young age. The five-year-old dog had been living with his father and older brother, who has autism, for several years. Prayong, who lives in a separate house, was unaware of when the dog attacked his father. However, upon seeing the condition of his father's body, he speculated that the dog may have bitten his father's arm and dragged him across the floor. He also suggested that the dog might have been stressed, as it had been chained for an extended period. Local volunteer rescuer, Atchara, expressed concern over the missing parts of the victim's arm, unsure whether the dog had eaten it or discarded it elsewhere. The victim's daughter, who wished to remain anonymous, stated that she discovered her father's body in the morning, already in a lifeless state, lying on his side. She mentioned that her father had always cared for the dog, which had been with him since it was a puppy. Authorities are continuing to investigate the incident. -- 2025-01-09

At approximately 09:45, local authorities received reports of a foreign man, later identified as a Russian national in his 40s, acting erratically and driving his car in reverse at high speed, creating a sense of danger and causing concern in the area. He proceeded to gather pieces of wood and other combustibles, before attempting to set them on fire. Upon receiving the call, the Nakhon Nayok radio dispatch coordinated a response, sending both vehicle and motorcycle patrols, as well as rescue teams from the Sawang Ariya Nakhon Nayok Foundation. Authorities arrived at the scene and found the man walking around the temple, drinking and pouring water from a large jar over himself. Picture from responders. A crash involving an 18-wheeler and four other vehicles occurred morning on January 7, on Pu Chao Saming Phrai Road in Samut Prakan, resulting in significant damage and a fire that caused chaos and panic. At approximately 04:50, police from Samrong Tai Police Station were alerted to a multi-vehicle collision and a subsequent fire near Wat Maha Wong intersection, heading toward Phra Pradaeng Pier. Firefighters and rescue units from the Pu Chao Saming Phrai Municipality and the Ruamkatanyu Foundation were dispatched to the scene. The crash site revealed a wrecked 18-wheeler from Bangkok, its cab engulfed in flames. Behind the cab, six large CNG cylinders were located, prompting authorities to cordon off the area and redirect traffic to prevent further danger. Firefighters battled the blaze for over 30 minutes before bringing it under control. The collision involved four vehicles that had been waiting at a red light. Among them were: • A Toyota pickup truck with severe damage to both its front and rear. • An Isuzu MU-X SUV from Bangkok, with front and rear dents. • A Suzuki car from Bangkok, sustaining significant rear damage and minor front damage. Initial investigations revealed that the 18-wheeler driver, identified as Mr. Komjit, 40, lost control of the vehicle when the brakes failed. He reported that he had been transporting an empty container to Phetchaburi and was fully awake and sober at the time of the crash. “I saw the cars ahead had stopped, but my brakes didn’t work. I hit the first vehicle, and then the windshield shattered, and a fire started. I had to jump out to save myself,” he explained. The driver of the Toyota pickup, Mr. Den, 53, described how the trailer truck veered from the right lane and crashed directly into the back of his vehicle. The force of the collision caused his pickup to collide with the car in front of him. Police have documented the scene and interviewed witnesses. The driver of the 18-wheeler was taken to the police station for further questioning and legal proceedings. -- 2025-01-08
