  1. Pictures from responders. A devastating fire engulfed a three-storey building in Suphan Buri early morning on January 11, killing four members of a prominent local politician’s family, including two children. The fire broke out at a property on Phra Phanwasa Road in Tha Phi Liang Subdistrict, Muang District. The building served as both a residence and a shop selling electrical and mechanical tools. Firefighters and emergency responders rushed to the scene after receiving the report. Efforts to control the blaze were immediately undertaken. Preliminary reports indicated that four people were inside the building at the time of the fire. Tragically, despite rescue attempts, none of the occupants survived. The victims have been identified as Mr. Phusit Rungrorchaiyaporn, 52, a well-known member of the Provincial Administrative Organisation (PAO) for District 1, Suphan Buri; his wife, Mrs. Kanokwan Rungrorchaiyaporn, 49; their son, Mr. Thirawat Rungrorchaiyaporn, 26; and their daughter, Ms. Warasiri Rungrorchaiyaporn, 24. Initial findings suggest the victims were trapped as the fire rapidly spread through the building. Emergency personnel recovered one body near the staircase on the second floor, with three others found on the third floor. Witnesses reported thick smoke billowing from the structure, hindering initial rescue attempts. Firefighters managed to bring the blaze under control, but the building was severely damaged. Authorities are now investigating the cause of the fire. -- 2025-01-12

  3. Picture from responders. An incident occurred on the Chiang Mai-Lampang Superhighway when a green Volvo car collided with a utility pole and was engulfed in flames, killing the driver trapped inside. Authorities are working to confirm the victim’s identity, with evidence suggesting the deceased may have been a lawyer. The incident occurred on the evening of January 10, near the Pa Bong police checkpoint on the Chiang Mai-Lampang Superhighway. Highway police, firefighters, and rescue personnel rushed to the scene following reports of the crash. By the time emergency crews arrived, the vehicle was entirely consumed by flames, with the driver trapped inside. It took over 30 minutes for firefighters to extinguish the blaze. Upon inspection of the burnt-out vehicle, identified as a Volvo car, registered in Bangkok, officials discovered documents in the trunk indicating the owner was a lawyer. A charred driver’s license and lawyer’s certificate were recovered, bearing the name Mr. Phumin. The remains of the victim, burned beyond recognition, were sent to Maharaj Nakorn Chiang Mai Hospital’s forensic department for further examination and for family members to confirm the deceased’s identity. Police are investigating the cause of the accident, including whether the car’s use of LPG as fuel may have contributed to the fire. The Chiang Mai forensics team is expected to conduct a thorough investigation to determine the precise circumstances leading to the crash. -- 2025-01-12
  4. Picture from responders. An incident occurred in Nonthaburi on 10 January, when a car reversed out of control, damaging six vehicles and resulting in the tragic death of the driver. Emergency responders from the Chonprathan Hospital and the Poh Teck Tung Foundation rushed to the scene at a residential parking lot on Tiwanon Road, Pak Kret, after reports of a collision involving multiple vehicles. Upon arrival, they discovered 53-year-old Phuliphat, a resident of Nakhon Si Thammarat, lying unconscious beside his green Jeep Cherokee (Bangkok registration). The vehicle’s gear was still in reverse. Despite valiant efforts by medics to resuscitate Phuliphat, including CPR, he was pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital. Six vehicles, including cars and pickup trucks, were damaged in the incident. CCTV footage revealed the sequence of events. Phuliphat had started his car and attempted to reverse while leaving the driver’s door open. The vehicle accelerated backward uncontrollably, colliding with parked cars. During the commotion, Phuliphat was thrown from the vehicle into one of the other vehicles and smashing his head into the floor, sustaining fatal injuries. His wife later disclosed that Phuliphat suffered from epilepsy, high blood pressure, and had previously undergone heart bypass surgery. She speculated that his medical conditions might have contributed to the incident. Witnesses reported that the car appeared to lurch backward rapidly, potentially due to a stuck gear or accelerator. Authorities have yet to confirm whether the collision was caused by mechanical failure or a medical episode. Investigations are ongoing to determine the precise cause. -- 2025-01-12

  8. Picture from responders. At approximately 13:00 on January 11, Pol. Lt. Col. Sanan Kotanont, Deputy Inspector of Muang Pattaya Police Station (Dongtan Substation), received a report of a shooting incident resulting in injuries and a fatality at a condominium in Soi Thepprasit 17, Moo 12, Pattaya., Bang Lamung District, Chonburi. The officer immediately informed his superiors and proceeded to the scene with Pol. Col. Navin Theerawit, Superintendent; Pol. Lt. Col. Thananon Athipansi, Deputy Superintendent, an investigative team, forensic officers and rescue volunteers from Sawang Boriboon Foundation. The incident occurred at an eight-storey condominium. On the fourth-floor fire escape, rescue workers found a Thai woman, later identified as Miss Chonlata, 34, lying unconscious in a pool of blood. She had sustained two gunshot wounds from a .38 calibre revolver-one to her left chest and another to her left abdomen. Rescue workers provided first aid before rushing her to Pattaya City Hospital, in a critical condition. The assailant fled to a sixth-floor apartment, where a single gunshot was heard shortly afterwards. Police found the body of the suspect, Mr. Chonwatchara, 40, lying on a bed with a gunshot wound to the right cheek, the bullet lodged in his head, with no exit wound. His right hand gripped a .38 calibre revolver tightly. The suspect, a driver for a ride-hailing app, had apparently taken his own life. Forensic officers collected fingerprints, gunpowder residue, and other evidence from the scene. A condominium staff member reported hearing a heated argument between a man and a woman on the sixth floor, followed by two gunshots near the fourth-floor fire escape. Upon investigation, the staff found the injured woman lying in blood and immediately alerted the authorities. Ten minutes later, another gunshot was heard from the sixth-floor apartment, believed to be the suspect's. Ms. Chon, 33, the wife of the deceased suspect, stated that her husband had left their home at 05:00. She was unaware of his relationship with the victim, as he regularly spent time with her and their child. She was shocked to learn that he had shot another person before turning the gun on himself. Pol. Col. Navin Theerawit stated that initial investigations suggested the suspect was distressed after the victim ended their relationship. It is believed that she ended the affair upon discovering the suspect was married. Despite his attempts at reconciliation, she refused, leading him to shoot her before taking his own life. Police are continuing their investigation to determine the exact circumstances of the incident. -- 2025-01-11

  10. Picture of arrest. A bizarre incident unfolded at Bang Lamung Police Station in Chonburi on the night of 10 January, when a 31-year-old transsexual, later identified as Mr. Natthaphon “Tao” Naksaraket, shocked officers by producing 10 packets of crystal methamphetamine while filing a complaint about missing car keys. Arriving at the station at approximately 21:30, Tao, accused an individual named “Paramet” of stealing the keys to a Honda City car. During the filing of her complaint, she exhibited erratic behaviour, speaking loudly and making provocative comments. Officers noticed the unusual demeanour, suspecting drug influence, and observed track marks on both arms, suggesting recent drug use. As officers attempted to calm the situation, Tao abruptly produced a packet of crystal methamphetamine and displayed it openly. Police immediately detained Tao and conducted a search of belongings. This led to the discovery of 10 resealable plastic bags containing a total of 10.56 grams of methamphetamine, 11 syringes, and a small amount of cash. All items were confiscated as evidence. Throughout her detention, Tao’s behaviour fluctuated wildly. At times spoking politely and appeared cheerful, while at other moments, lashing out at officers. Even when asked to identify the seized items, Tao struck dramatic poses and walked around the investigation room, further frustrating the officers. Tao admitted to regularly using methamphetamine by mixing it with saline solution and injecting it into her veins, demonstrating the method to police. Her arms were heavily scarred from repeated injections. Police charged Tao with possession of a Category 1 narcotic and transferred Tao to investigators for further legal proceedings. -- 2025-01-11

  14. Picture courtesy of Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation A three-day rescue mission to save an injured female tiger from a snare in Huai Kha Khaeng forest has been successfully completed. The operation, led by park officials and veterinary experts, highlights the dangers of wildlife poaching and the ongoing challenges of conservation efforts. Chutidet Kamonchanut, Director of Protected Area Regional Office 3 (Ban Pong), revealed details of the mission, which focused on the tiger trapped in the Pu Toei Forest Reserve. The operation began after local rangers discovered signs of the tiger, including its tracks and hearing growls, on 8 January. A multidisciplinary team was deployed, including staff from Pu Toei National Park, veterinarians from the regional office, and personnel from wildlife rescue centres in Khao Prathap Chang and Bueng Chawak. By 18:30 that evening, search efforts involving drones and ground teams located the tiger resting in a dense grass-covered ravine. The animal, estimated to be a seven-year-old female, was injured on its front right paw, ensnared by a steel wire trap. Veterinary teams sedated the tiger using tranquiliser darts before cutting away the wire, cleaning the wound, and administering antibiotics, fluids, and vitamins. The tiger was then transported to the Pu Toei National Park headquarters for further care. After recovering from sedation and showing signs of stability, the tiger was transferred to the Bueng Chawak Wildlife Rescue Centre for specialised treatment later that night. Throughout the journey, two veterinarians closely monitored its condition to ensure its safety. Chutidet noted that the tiger’s presence outside Huai Kha Khaeng demonstrates the ecological connectivity of Western Thailand’s forest corridors. However, he emphasised the threats posed by illegal snares, which remain a critical issue in wildlife conservation. He pledged ongoing monitoring and expert care to rehabilitate the tiger so it can eventually be released back into the wild. The rescue serves as both a testament to the dedication of Thailand’s conservation teams and a stark reminder of the dangers faced by its endangered wildlife. -- 2025-01-11

A six-wheeled truck driver, carrying steel lost control, overturned, and crashed into a car waiting at a red light, resulting in multiple injuries. Emergency response teams, including rescue units from Lampang Hospital, the Lampang Rescue Association, and officers from Mueang Lampang Police Station, were quickly dispatched to the scene. Upon arrival, authorities discovered the overturned six-wheeled Hino truck, registered in Lampang, with its load of steel beams scattered across the road. The crash caused extensive damage, including oil leaking and debris strewn over the area, as well as a broken utility pole blocking the road. Three people from the truck were found injured at the scene: 1. A man, 45 years old, who was the truck driver, was thrown from the vehicle and found on the central reservation. He suffered facial injuries. 2. Mr. Kornwich Kanthana, 30, who had been sitting in the middle seat, was conscious but sustained facial injuries, a head wound, and complained of arm pain. 3. Mr. Anusak Wongkaenchan, 32, the passenger seated by the door, suffered abrasions, a head wound, and back pain. All three injured individuals were promptly transported to Lampang Hospital for emergency treatment. The driver of the car stated that they had been stationary at a red light when the truck suddenly crashed into them. Fortunately, the driver escaped uninjured but remained visibly shaken by the incident. Preliminary investigations suggest the truck had been travelling downhill from Doi Phra Bat towards Mae Mo district when its brakes failed. This caused the driver to lose control, veer off course, hit a utility pole, and crash into the car. Lampang police officers examined the scene and the investigation is ongoing, to determine the precise cause of the incident. -- 2025-01-11
  19. Picture and video courtesy of Phuketinsta telegram channel. An incident has claimed the life of a 31-year-old parasailing operator off Karon Beach in Phuket. The operator, identified as Mr. Pathompong, fell from a height of 50 metres while assisting a tourist in a parasailing activity. The incident, which occurred on the evening of 5 January, has raised serious safety concerns surrounding the activity. A video clip, approximately 25 seconds in length, captured by a tourist, shows the moment the parasail was launched into the sky. According to witnesses, strong winds caused the operator to lose his grip and fall from the parasail, hitting the water with great force. Reports indicate that Mr. Pathompong suffered severe injuries and was bleeding from the mouth and nose when rescued. Efforts to save him were immediate, with the parasailing team taking him to a nearby hospital in a tuk-tuk after an ambulance failed to arrive in time. Unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries en route to Chalong Hospital. This incident is not the first of its kind. Sources revealed that the same operator had fallen from a parasail on multiple occasions before. Following this latest incident, the parasailing company, reportedly linked to a local political group in Karon, has compensated the deceased’s family with 50,000 baht to assist with funeral arrangements. Local authorities, including representatives from the Phuket Office of Tourism and Sports, the Karon Municipality, and Karon Police, have launched a joint investigation into the incident. A construction worker has been seriously injured after being trapped by a trench collapse at Sri Racha-Nong Kho Road, Nong Kham Subdistrict, Sri Racha District, Chonburi. The incident took place near Wat Nong Kho, where a large section of earth slid down, burying the man from the waist down. His chest was also struck by a metal pipe during the collapse. Emergency services were called to the scene shortly after the collapse occurred. A rescue team from the Phuea Yieng Thai organisation arrived to assist the victim, who was identified as a 44-year-old male.
