  1. Picture from responders. A 36-year-old man, in an apparent drug-induced frenzy, assaulted his own mother and nephew, leaving both with injuries before being restrained and taken to hospital. The incident occurred in Moo 19, Ban Noen Siam, Phra Phloeng Subdistrict, Khao Chakan District, Sa Kaeo Province. On 9 January, local officials, led by Phra Phloeng Subdistrict Chief Somchai Thayai and the special task force "Team Moo Loom," responded to reports of a man behaving erratically in a drug-fuelled rage. The assailant, identified as Mr. Phet, allegedly failed to recognise his mother before attacking her and his nephew, choking both. Village headman Mr. Surasak Pinsantia and administrative officers arrived at the scene and managed to restrain Mr. Phet, who displayed uncontrollable behaviour. Shortly after being subdued, he experienced convulsions and was rushed to Khao Chakan Hospital. Meanwhile, his mother and nephew were treated for injuries sustained during the attack. Phra Phloeng Subdistrict Chief Somchai stated that “the root cause of this violent outburst was drug addiction, which severely affects the brain and mental state, leading to depression, anxiety, and erratic behaviour. Prolonged drug use deteriorates physical and mental health, impairs motor skills, and poses a threat to the individual and those around them”. "This is another tragic example of the devastating impact of drug abuse," Mr. Somchai said. "We are intensifying efforts to combat drug addiction and provide treatment for users in line with the government's policies on public safety and rehabilitation." Mr. Phet and his mother remain under observation and care at Khao Chakan Hospital, while authorities continue their investigation into the incident. -- 2025-01-11

  3. Picture and video from responders. A large reticulated python was discovered basking on the wall of Wat Thung Sadaeng in Phetchabun Province, causing a stir among residents and sparking a wave of lottery fever. The snake, approximately 2.5 metres long, appeared unusually large around its midsection, prompting speculation it had recently devoured a sizeable meal. The incident was brought to public attention when a Facebook user posted a video with the caption: “It’s a big one. The rescue team is relocating it to the wild.” The footage captured local disaster prevention officials carefully capturing the snake to release it back into its natural habitat. The video attracted a flurry of comments, with one user noting, “It’s huge! If I saw it at night, I’d have reversed my car in panic,” while another added, “There’s another one nearby, according to Uncle Jit!” Speculation also circulated about the snake’s bulging abdomen, with some suggesting it had consumed a large animal. Kittisak Sangketdee, a member of the Phetchabun municipal council, confirmed that he received reports from locals about the snake sunbathing on the temple’s wall. Upon inspection, he found the reticulated python with its noticeably swollen belly. Officials used a snake catcher pole to carefully remove the snake and attempted to place it in a fertiliser sack. However, the sack proved too small, forcing the team to lift the snake onto a pickup truck for transportation to the wild, a process they described as “rather cumbersome.” The discovery of the python also caught the attention of lottery enthusiasts, who seized the opportunity to speculate on “lucky numbers.” Many zeroed in on the temple’s address, 716, as a potential winner. Kittisak revealed that the snake had been spotted earlier on the night of 7 January, crossing from behind Wat Thung Sadaeng School towards the temple grounds. Although residents were warned to stay alert, the snake evaded capture until it was seen basking in the sun. Officials have since relocated the snake to a safe, natural environment, ensuring the safety of both locals and wildlife. Meanwhile, residents remain hopeful that their newfound “guardian” might bring them luck in the upcoming lottery draw. -- 2025-01-11 ScreenRecording_01-10-2025 10-48-48_1.mp4

  5. Picture captured from CCTV below. Several elderly passengers sustained injuries after a car crashed into the back of a pickup truck carrying a group of religious followers returning from a ceremony honouring revered monk Kruba Boonchum. The crash occurred at the San Khong intersection in Mae Chan District, Chiang Rai, with CCTV capturing the moment of the collision. Police from Mae Chan Police Station responded to the incident, which involved three vehicles. A white Chevrolet Colorado pickup, carrying five elderly passengers in its truck bed, was struck from behind by a white Honda car. The impact caused the passengers to be thrown onto the road, with some landing under the vehicles. Fortunately, no fatalities were reported. The followers were returning from a religious ceremony at Wat Wiang Kaew in Chiang Saen District, marking the final day of the event. As the pickup truck slowed to turn right into a village road in Moo 10, Pa Tueng Subdistrict, it was hit by the Honda, which pushed the vehicle into another pickup in front. Rescue teams from Thap Yang were dispatched to the scene and promptly transported the injured to Mae Chan Hospital. Police revealed that the driver of the Honda, an elderly man, admitted that he was attempting to swerve to avoid a passing dirt truck when sunlight blinded him, preventing him from noticing the stationary vehicles ahead. As a result, he collided with the Chevrolet, causing damage to all three vehicles. The insurance provider for the Honda has agreed to cover the damages and medical expenses for all those affected. Authorities are continuing their investigation to ensure appropriate follow-up actions are taken. -- 2025-01-11 ScreenRecording_01-10-2025 17-54-41_1.mp4

  9. Picture and video from Facebook. Three rowdy tourists were escorted off a Nok Air flight after being caught vaping mid-air, shocking fellow passengers on board. The incident occurred on January 5 on flight DD-532, travelling from Don Mueang International Airport in Bangkok to Phuket International Airport. Footage captured by a passenger shows one of the men casually vaping and using his phone during the flight. Another reportedly hid in the aircraft’s toilet to vape, ignoring strict aviation safety regulations. The obnoxious behaviour did not go unnoticed, as other passengers alerted cabin crew when the cabin began filling with a sickly-sweet odour. One witness, Neeranoot Meuankid, said: “I noticed them being noisy at the gate and saw them vaping in the boarding queue. During the flight, the smell became overwhelming, even through my mask, and I started feeling dizzy.” Neeranoot also noted that one of the men disregarded the safety demonstration and refused to wear his seatbelt during take-off. She filmed the incident as evidence and handed it over to flight attendants, who tackled the situation. Upon landing in Phuket, the three tourists were detained by police and escorted off the aircraft. They were held for investigation at the airport police station. No details on the nationalities, identities or any possible charges has been released by authorities. Smoking and vaping are strictly prohibited on all domestic and international flights. Vaping has also been banned in Thailand since 2014, although such products are still widely available for purchase. Neeranoot added: “It’s 2025, everyone must know you can’t smoke on planes. Their behaviour was reckless and disrespectful to the safety and comfort of others.” -- 2025-01-10 ScreenRecording_01-10-2025 06-14-16_1.mp4

  12. Picture from responders. Firefighters in Udon Thani responded to a call about an electric motorcycle that caught fire on January 9, on a road in front of the Saen Saran housing estate in Nong Bua subdistrict. The vehicle, a white and black Deco brand, was found engulfed in flames. Firefighters arrived promptly and extinguished the fire within ten minutes, but the motorcycle was completely destroyed. The incident occurred as Mrs. Prasong Vinitchai, 69, was riding the motorcycle to her usual noodle shop. She had used the electric vehicle, which cost over 40,000 baht and was purchased by her employer, about four months ago to help save on fuel costs. The motorcycle had been recently charged and parked before she used it that day. According to Mrs. Prasong, the vehicle unexpectedly stalled before she reached her destination. She decided to push it back home but noticed smoke emerging as she approached the housing estate entrance. Alarmed, she parked the bike and sought help. Moments later, the motorcycle burst into flames. A noodle vendor, Mr. Somsak Kingdonnok, quickly used a garden hose to suppress the fire until the fire service arrived. Mrs. Prasong called her employer, who calmly told her not to worry about the loss. However, the incident left her shaken. “I don’t think I’ll ever ride an electric motorcycle again. I’m too scared. I’ll go back to using a petrol-powered vehicle,” she said. Mr. Somsak, the noodle vendor, described Mrs. Prasong as a regular customer who often rode her electric motorcycle to his shop. Authorities have advised the owner to report the incident to the police and contact the vehicle’s manufacturer for a technical investigation to determine the cause of the fire. -- 2025-01-10

  16. Picture from responders. A tragic discovery was made in a rice field in Ban Lak Pai, Wang Hin Subdistrict, Si Sa Ket Province, when a 65-year-old man found the body of an infant buried alongside a toy rabbit. Police from Wang Hin Police Station, forensic officers from Si Sa Ket Provincial Police, and a medical examiner from Wang Hin District Hospital were called to the scene to investigate. The body of a baby girl, estimated to be less than one month old, was found buried in a mound of soil in the middle of a rice field. Wrapped in a white towel and accompanied by a white stuffed rabbit, the baby’s body appeared intact. The discovery was made by Mr. Prasert Chaleekul, aged 64, who had been tending to his cows nearby. While searching the field for rat tracks to prepare traps, he noticed disturbed soil covered by a piece of wood. Using a stick to investigate, Mr. Prasert first uncovered the towel and toy rabbit before eventually discovering the baby’s foot. Shocked by the find, he immediately alerted the village headman and contacted the authorities. Mr. Prasert recounted that such an incident had never occurred in the area before. He mentioned seeing two teenagers, wearing face coverings, riding a motorcycle near the location on the afternoon of 6 January. They had drawn no attention at the time, as he assumed they were hunting for field rats. However, given the circumstances, he believes they may have been involved in burying the baby. The medical examiner estimates the baby had died two to three days prior. Whether the baby was buried after death or while still alive remains uncertain, pending a detailed autopsy. Authorities are currently gathering evidence from the scene and investigating the teenagers’ possible involvement. Efforts are underway to track down those responsible for burying the infant. -- 2025-01-10
