Picture courtesy of Naewna. Officers from The Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) conducted a major raid, targeting three locations in the Nong Khang Phlu area of Bangkok, where they uncovered a large cache of counterfeit skincare products. The bust resulted in the seizure of more than 2,300 fake items, with an estimated value of nearly 2 million baht. Acting on the orders of CIB Commissioner Pol. Lt. Gen. Jiraphop Bhuridej, the raid was carried out by the Economic Crime Suppression Division (ECD), led by Pol. Maj. Gen. Thatphoom Jaruprach. The operation was supported by representatives from intellectual property rights holders. Three premises were searched, two commercial buildings in Soi Phetkasem 81 and a nearby house on Majoen Road, all within the same district. Authorities arrested a 22-year-old man, identified only as Mr Supachai, who was found to be in possession of the counterfeit goods. The confiscated items included sunscreen, facial cleansers and skincare creams bearing the trademarks of popular brands such as Biore, Cetaphil and Bio Oil. A total of 2,327 items, valued at approximately 1,972,084 baht, were seized. Mr Supachai faces charges under The Trademark Act B.E. 2534 for possessing goods with forged or imitated registered trademarks with intent to sell. The investigation was launched after brand representatives filed a complaint, alerting authorities to suspected online sales of counterfeit Biore products. Following over a year of surveillance, the CIB gathered sufficient evidence to request a warrant from the Central Intellectual Property and International Trade Court to search the three locations simultaneously. Initial inspections, carried out in cooperation with brand representatives, confirmed that the seized items were counterfeit, with packaging and contents imitating genuine products. Authorities believe the fakes originated from a manufacturing facility before being distributed to the storage and distribution sites uncovered in the raid. Mr Supachai was identified as the owner and controller of all three locations. He confessed to all charges during preliminary questioning. Police are now working to trace the wider supply chain, including the origin of the counterfeit goods and the online platforms used to distribute them. The CIB has issued a public warning about the dangers of using counterfeit skincare products, which may contain harmful or substandard ingredients. Potential health risks include allergic reactions, clogged pores, acne, and long-term skin inflammation. Beyond health concerns, counterfeit goods undermine the economy, reduce legitimate tax revenue and negatively impact honest businesses and workers. Authorities stress that clamping down on the counterfeit trade is crucial to protecting consumers, upholding business standards, and preserving Thailand’s reputation in global commerce. The public is urged to avoid counterfeit goods and report suspicious activity to help build a transparent and sustainable society. Adapted by Asean Now from Naewna 2025-06-13

Picture courtesy of Matichon. Two young men in Khon Kaen have been arrested in an operation after attempting to sell illegal firearms through Facebook. The suspects were caught following a sting operation conducted by Thailand’s Technology Crime Suppression Division (TCSD), which resulted in a failed escape attempt and the seizure of homemade weapons. Police Lieutenant General Trirong Phiwphan, Commissioner of the TCSD, revealed details of the arrest during a press conference held at the division’s headquarters in Muang Thong Thani on the morning of 12 June. The investigation began when officers discovered a Facebook account advertising firearms for sale in a public group easily accessible to the general public. Undercover officers initiated contact and arranged to purchase two weapons for 21,000 baht each. A meeting was set at a petrol station in Mueang District, Khon Kaen Province. Upon arrival at the location, suspects later identified as Mr. Jeab and Mr. Singh pulled up in a red sedan. As officers moved in to make the arrest, Mr. Jeab realised what was happening and attempted to flee by reversing the vehicle. However, police had pre-positioned three vehicles to block any escape, successfully apprehending the suspects. Authorities seized two modified homemade 9mm firearms, which had been converted from BB guns, along with five rounds of 9mm ammunition, one .380 ACP round and four magazines. During questioning, the suspects confessed to having sourced BB guns from local contacts and shops in Khon Kaen, then modifying them into functional firearms using knowledge acquired from local weapons experts via a LINE messaging group. They sold each weapon for approximately 20,000 baht. Both men have been charged with illegal possession of firearms and ammunition, and for carrying firearms in public without a permit, violations under the 1947 Firearms, Ammunition, Explosives, Fireworks and Imitation Firearms Act. The suspects have been handed over to investigators for prosecution, with further inquiries underway to trace the origin and network involved in the illicit weapons trade. Motorcyclist Killed After Ignoring Railway Barrier in Chonburi Picture courtesy of Workpoint. Picture courtesy of Workpoint. A 56-year-old man was killed in a crash on the night on 11 June, after attempting to ride his motorcycle across a railway crossing in Sri Racha district, Chonburi, despite warning signals and a lowered barrier. The incident occurred at approximately 20:10, at the railway crossing near Laem Chabang Tower, Moo 8, in the Thung Sukhla subdistrict. Rescue units from Sawang Prateep Sri Racha Foundation and medics from Vibharam Laem Chabang Hospital were dispatched to the scene following reports of a collision involving a train and a motorcyclist. Upon arrival, emergency responders found a green Honda Super Cub motorcycle overturned near the railway tracks, its front end severely damaged. The rider, identified as Mr. Krisana 56, of Bang Kaeo subdistrict, Nakhon Chai Si district, Nakhon Pathom, was lying unconscious with a severe head injury and no detectable pulse. Despite attempts to revive him with CPR, medics confirmed his death at the scene. CCTV footage reviewed by police investigators revealed that the railway barrier had been lowered well in advance of the train’s arrival. Multiple vehicles were seen waiting patiently behind the barrier. Mr. Krisana, however, rode alone and overtook the waiting vehicles, proceeding to bypass the lowered barrier. As the crossing is located on a slope, Mr. Krisana reportedly lost control and fell, his motorcycle sliding dangerously close to the tracks. In a desperate attempt to remove the vehicle, he tried to stand up and pull it away, but before he could succeed, an oncoming train struck both the motorcycle and him. Eyewitnesses described a harrowing scene, with one bystander saying the train’s impact caused the motorcycle to drag Mr. Krisana into its path. Mr. Kaifah 32, a local motorcycle repairman who witnessed the event, said: “He tried to get the bike off the tracks, but the train was already there. He stood up and was pulling at the bike when it hit. I ran over to help but it was too late. It all happened so fast, I was shocked.” The crossing, described as dimly lit, may have contributed to the severity of the incident. Other riders waiting at the crossing were visibly shaken, with some turning around and leaving the scene. Police officers from Laem Chabang Police Station conducted an on-site investigation and interviewed witnesses. Mr. Krisana’s body was later transported to Laem Chabang Hospital. Authorities are now working to contact his family so that funeral arrangements can be made. Adapted by Asean Now from Workpoint 2025-06-13

UPDATE Body of Air Force Officer Recovered After Drowning in Mekong During Drug Surveillance Mission Picture courtesy of Khaosod. The body of Flight Sergeant Major Sukasem Promphanchaichai, an officer with the Royal Thai Air Force’s Special Operations Unit, was recovered on the morning of 12 June, after he drowned during a drug surveillance operation on the Mekong River in Khong Chiam district. At approximately 00:30, personnel from the Mekong River Peacekeeping Unit deployed two patrol boats to retrieve the fallen officer’s body, which was found floating roughly only 20 metres from where the boat capsized near Bung Khee Lek village, Na Waeng subdistrict, Khemarat district. The operation was overseen by General Manat Chandee, Chief of Army Staff, along with senior military officers and rescue agencies. The body was transported to Khemarat Hospital for an initial examination, before being transferred to the forensic department at Sunpasitthiprasong Hospital in Ubon Ratchathani. It will then be flown to the Air Force Headquarters in Bangkok for official ceremonies and funeral proceedings. The incident occurred on the evening of 10 June, during a joint reconnaissance mission involving three Air Force personnel. Flight Sgt. Maj. Sukasem, along with Flight Sgt. Maj. Suwat Phoolnates and Sergeant Chitsanupong Atpanya, had been patrolling the banks of the Mekong to investigate suspected drug smuggling activity. Using binoculars, they spotted a suspicious fertiliser sack believed to contain illegal narcotics, placed on a rock formation about 500 metres from the Thai riverbank. The officers borrowed a local fishing boat to approach the location, but were caught in powerful currents and whirlpools. The boat capsized, throwing all three officers into the river. While two of the officers managed to swim back to shore, Flight Sgt. Maj. Sukasem was swept away and went missing. His M16 rifle, along with those of his colleagues, was also lost during the incident. The Royal Thai Air Force has expressed its condolences to the family of Flight Sgt. Maj. Sukasem, honouring his sacrifice in the line of duty during a mission to protect the nation from the scourge of narcotics. Adapted by Asean Now from Khaosod 2025-06-13

Picture courtesy of Matichon A 40-year-old woman has been arrested in Rayong for illegally selling electronic cigarettes online, after a tip-off was submitted via the government’s app. The arrest was announced during a press briefing at the Technology Crime Suppression Division (TCSD) headquarters in Muang Thong Thani by Police Lieutenant General Trirong Phiwphan, Commissioner of the TCSD. Officers from the Division 2 of the TCSD initiated an undercover purchase of e-cigarette products through the suspect’s Facebook page. Upon receiving the ordered items, police traced the delivery route and origin of the shipment, leading them to a residence on Wat Map Ta Phut Road in the Map Ta Phut subdistrict of Rayong’s Muang district. At the property, officers found Ms. Teeraporn along with a large quantity of illegal vaping products and related items, including: • 164 disposable e-cigarette devices • 3 reusable e-cigarette kits • 30 e-liquid pods • 72 bottles of vape refill liquid • Packaging materials and communication devices used in the operation • A tablet logged into a Facebook account named “E-cigarettes Map Ta Phut Huai Pong Rayong (Full Accessories)” Ms. Teeraporn confessed to owning the products and admitted to switching from a physical storefront to online sales to evade law enforcement following the government’s crackdown on vape-related goods. She had reportedly been selling online for about three months, earning an average of 50,000 baht per month. The authorities have charged her with violating a 2024 order issued by the Committee on the Safety of Goods and Services, which bans the production, sale, and service of shisha (baraku), electronic shisha, e-cigarettes and related refills. She also faces charges related to the unlawful possession and distribution of goods that have not passed customs clearance. The suspect and the seized items have been handed over to investigators for further legal proceedings. Adapted by Asean Now from Matichon 2025-06-13

Picture courtesy of Amarin. Panic struck diners in a restaurant in Bangkok’s Bang Khen district during the afternoon of 12 June, when a heated altercation between customers escalated into gunfire, leaving one man injured. The incident occurred around 13:00 at a restaurant located on Phahonyothin Road in the Anusawari subdistrict. According to witnesses, a verbal dispute between members of a dining party suddenly turned violent, culminating in two gunshots being fired within the restaurant premises. One man sustained injuries as a result and was promptly assisted by emergency responders before being rushed to Paolo Kaset Hospital. Reports indicate that the victim remained conscious and was able to walk out of the restaurant unaided before being taken to hospital for treatment. At approximately 13:35, police officers from Bang Khen Police Station, including Pol. Lt. Col. Sarnpich Sirisuntorn and Pol. Lt. Col. Kosonpiya Sima, arrived at the scene to gather evidence and interview witnesses. Officers cordoned off the area for forensic examination and began collecting CCTV footage as part of their investigation. The restaurant’s owner, Mr. Prasit, spoke briefly to reporters. He confirmed that the incident occurred in the restaurant’s “Bua Luang” private dining room, where a group of patrons became involved in a shouting match that escalated quickly. “They were arguing quite loudly before someone pulled out a gun and fired two shots. The injured man was still conscious and managed to walk outside before rescue teams arrived,” Mr. Prasit said. Police have yet to confirm the identities of those involved or the motive behind the altercation. The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are working to apprehend the shooter. Picture courtesy of Khaosod. A multi-vehicle collision involving 13 vehicles occurred on Phetkasem Road in Prachuap Khiri Khan province on the afternoon of 12 June, leaving three people injured and causing traffic congestion stretching over three kilometres. The incident took place on the southbound carriageway near a bend at Ban Thung Ko, Moo 8, Bo Nok Subdistrict, Mueang Prachuap Khiri Khan District, at kilometre marker 291+700. It happened during light rain and just 100 metres from the Thung Ko health station. Police Lieutenant Rattanaporn Thongjeen, an investigative officer from Mueang Prachuap Khiri Khan Police Station, responded to the emergency call alongside rescue teams from Sawang Prachuap Foundation, highway police, provincial transport officers and highway department personnel. On arrival at the scene, authorities found multiple vehicles, including pick-up trucks, saloon cars, a six-wheeler and a tour bus, had collided in a chain reaction due to slippery road conditions. The crash initially involved a saloon car and a pick-up truck colliding, with the tour bus then ploughing into the rear of the vehicles ahead due to insufficient stopping distance. Additional vehicles following behind were unable to stop in time and crashed into the pile-up, bringing the total number of vehicles involved to 13. Spilled engine oil on the road surface worsened conditions and contributed to the subsequent collisions. Three people, two men and one woman, sustained injuries and were taken to Prachuap Khiri Khan Hospital. The tour bus was carrying 24 foreign tourists, 14 of whom had boarded in Bangkok and the remaining 10 in Hua Hin. Fortunately, none of the tourists were injured. The group was en route to Chumphon pier for onward travel to Koh Tao when the collision occurred. The size of the bus and its position blocking both lanes of the road led to a severe traffic backlog. Authorities worked swiftly to remove the wrecked vehicles and clean the roadway, completing the operation and restoring normal traffic flow within two hours. Investigations into the crash are ongoing. Adapted by Asean Now from Khaosod 2025-06-13

In a workplace inspection that unfolded like a scene from a spy film, authorities uncovered a hidden room behind a filing cabinet at a factory in Rayong province, revealing 16 Chinese nationals quietly hiding from law enforcement. The raid, which took place on 11 June at an industrial facility in Nikhom Phatthana district, exposed suspected illegal labour activity and led to the detention of 22 individuals. The operation was led by Rayong MPs Ms. Sawangjit Laoharojanaphan and Mr. Krit Sinlapachai, in cooperation with local administrative officers and the provincial employment department. Acting on a tip-off about possible illegal foreign workers at the site, officials moved in to inspect the premises. Upon entering the factory compound, some workers were seen fleeing in all directions, with several wearing company uniforms. When investigators reached the office area, they noticed suspicious activity around a large filing cabinet. After moving it aside, they discovered a hidden door labelled “Document Room.” To their surprise, the space behind it was being used to conceal 16 Chinese men and women, all of whom were sitting silently in hiding. Outside the office, several more Chinese individuals were detained for questioning, bringing the total to 22. Ms. Sawangjit stated that the inspection followed public complaints and intelligence reports suggesting unauthorised foreign workers were operating in the factory. Upon questioning, all those discovered inside the hidden room denied being employed, claiming they were in Thailand as tourists and had entered the country on 7 May 2025. Initial investigations revealed that only two of the 22 individuals admitted to entering the country illegally and working without permits. They are now facing charges for working without authorisation, which carries fines ranging from 5,000 to 50,000 baht. In addition to prosecution, they will be deported and barred from applying for work permits for two years. The remaining 20 individuals are undergoing further verification to determine the legality of their entry and purpose of stay. Officials have pledged to continue investigating the factory’s employment practices and to identify any networks facilitating the use of illegal foreign labour. The authorities emphasised the importance of proper work documentation and warned employers against hiding unregistered workers. The incident underscores growing concerns about human trafficking and labour exploitation in Thailand’s industrial sector. Adapted by Asean Now from Naewna 2025-06-13

Picture courtesy of Khaosod. A father returning home for a rare visit was devastated to discover a crowd gathered near his house and even more so when he realised the focus of their attention was the lifeless body of his own son. The incident occurred in the Sri Mongkol Soi area, near a coconut plantation drainage canal adjacent to a local school in Pak Phun sub-district, Mueang District, Nakhon Si Thammarat. Police, forensic officers and rescue workers from the Tai Tek Tung Foundation were called to the scene. The body was identified as Mr. Jirakit 22 years old. He was found face-down in the undergrowth wearing only black shorts. A patterned blue cloth had been placed over his feet and his right hand was crossed behind his back. A burn mark resembling an electric shock extended from his left shoulder down his back and torso. His face also bore visible burn injuries. Investigators believe the location where the body was found was not the actual site of death. There were no signs of a struggle or accident in the immediate area, but there were drag marks suggesting the body had been moved. The cloth at the victim’s feet is believed to have been used by the person who dragged the body to avoid direct contact. The victim’s father, Mr. Rungroj, had travelled from Hua Sai District to visit his children, who live together in the area. He stopped when he saw a group gathered by the roadside, only to collapse in shock upon recognising his son’s body. He told officers that he works as a fisherman and rarely returns home. That morning, he had come to visit, only to discover the devastating news. Relatives confirmed that the deceased had long struggled with mental health issues linked to drug use. He often wandered the area alone, refusing to return home even when found by family members. Mr. Jirakit had a troubled past, including juvenile charges for drug offences and theft, and had spent time in youth detention centres. Since his release, he had not held any employment. Police speculate that he may have entered or been sent into an area containing high-voltage wiring, possibly in connection with a theft attempt or in an area where electric cables had been deliberately laid to deter trespassers. It is suspected that he was electrocuted and subsequently moved to the current location. Authorities are continuing to investigate and collect evidence to determine the exact circumstances of the death and whether foul play was involved. Adapted by Asean Now from Khaosod 2025-06-13

Crab Hunter’s Shocking Find: Missing Man Discovered Alive After 7 Days in Mangrove Mud Picture courtesy of Khaosod. Picture courtesy of Khaosod. A man presumed dead after disappearing for a week was discovered alive but unconscious in a mangrove forest, covered in mud and barely breathing, to the astonishment of both rescue workers and his family. On the afternoon of 11 June, police in Ban Wisai Nuea received a report of a body found near a shrimp farm in the mangrove forest of Moo 1, Thung Kha sub-district, Mueang District, Chumphon province. Pol. Lt. Col. Kranphon Phetwong, deputy investigator at Ban Wisai Nuea Police Station, responded to the call with a team that included Pol. Lt. Col. Wittaya Channui, deputy superintendent, hospital staff from Chumphon Khet Udomsak Hospital and a rescue unit from the Chumphon Charity Foundation. The body had been spotted by Mr. Sila 53, a local man who had been setting crab traps in the mangroves. Seeing what he thought was a corpse lying face-up in the mud, he ran to alert his family and contacted the authorities. Rescuers waded through difficult terrain, carrying a stretcher through thick mud, only to be stunned when they reached the scene: the “body” was still breathing. The man, later identified as 32-year-old Warawut, known locally as “Paek”, was alive, though in a critical state. He was unresponsive, caked in mud and extremely weak. Rescuers administered oxygen on-site before rushing him to Chumphon Hospital for emergency treatment. His uncle, Mr. Saluay, 68, explained that Warawut, a construction worker with a heavy drinking problem, had gone missing on the evening of 4 June after receiving his wages. Despite filing a missing person report the next day and multiple searches in the area, there had been no sign of him, until now. “We thought we were coming to retrieve his body,” said Saluay. “It’s a relief he’s still alive. But how he ended up deep in the mangrove forest is beyond me.” Police believe alcohol was again a factor. According to Pol. Lt. Col. Wittaya, Warawut reportedly drank up to four bottles of liquor a day and had wandered off while intoxicated. “We searched after receiving the missing person report on 5 June, but the area is vast, with dense mangroves and waterlogged ground. It was difficult to find anything,” he said. “It’s nothing short of miraculous that he survived.” Warawut remains under medical supervision as doctors conduct a thorough examination. Picture courtesy of Matichon. A devastating fire broke out at a motorcycle helmet manufacturing factory in Samut Sakhon late afternoon on 11 June, destroying nearly the entire building but fortunately resulting in no injuries or fatalities. At approximately 17:00, Pol. Lt. Col. Jamnong Noeikham, an investigator at Nam Bang Chuet sub-station in Mueang District, received an emergency report of a fire at a helmet production factory located in Bang Nam Chuet Sub-district. Over ten fire engines from local administrative organisations, including Bang Nam Chuet Subdistrict Administrative Organisation, Kharai and Suan Luang municipalities, Khlong Maduea Town Municipality, Om Noi City Municipality, and Kok Krabue Subdistrict Administrative Organisation, were urgently dispatched to the scene. The factory, located at 99/20 Moo 5, occupies over two rai of land and consists of a single-storey building. The front section serves as an office, the rear is used for spray-painting and curing helmets, while the central area houses materials and completed products awaiting delivery. The blaze is believed to have originated in the rear spray-painting section. The intensity of the flames caused the roof structure to collapse. The fire severely damaged machinery used in the painting process, several paint containers and a large number of helmets awaiting finishing. Firefighters took several hours to bring the flames under control. The factory supervisor said the business has been operating for nine years, exclusively producing motorcycle helmets. At the time of the incident, the workday was coming to an end and around nine to ten workers were preparing to leave. Suddenly, flames erupted, prompting all workers to flee the building just in time. No one was injured. The exact cause of the fire remains unknown. Police will coordinate with forensic experts to determine the origin of the blaze. The value of the damage is still being assessed. Adapted by Asean Now from Khaosod 2025-06-13
