A fire broke out at the Thai Beverage Recycling Co., Ltd. factory in Pathum Thani late on November 15, prompting an urgent response from authorities. Over 20 fire engines were deployed to tackle the blaze, which caused significant damage to the facility but, fortunately, resulted in no injuries or fatalities. The fire was reported at approximately 22:30 at the factory located in Moo 3, Bang Khu Wat Subdistrict, Mueang District, Pathum Thani. Pol. Lt. Udomkiat Jangma, Deputy Inspector of Pathum Thani Police Station, and Pol. Col. Wiwat Assawawiboon, Superintendent of Pathum Thani Police Station, immediately coordinated efforts with firefighters from Bang Khu Wat Municipality and nearby areas. The fire engulfed a warehouse used to store both glass bottles, cardboard and paper, creating intense flames that posed a risk of spreading to surrounding areas. Firefighters worked using multiple water-lines to contain the fire and prevent further damage. After more than about two hour of intense effort, the flames were brought under control. Pol. Col. Wiwat Assawawiboon confirmed that the fire originated inside the warehouse. Fortunately, no employees were working at the time of the incident, and no injuries or fatalities were reported. Authorities have requested forensic investigators from the Police Forensic Science Center 1 to examine the site to determine the cause of the fire. Further details about the extent of the damage and potential hazards will be released following a thorough investigation. Picture from responders. -- 2024-11-17

Central Group organised the 20th annual Firefighter Challenge at Central Village in Bang Chalong, Bang Phli District, Samut Prakan. The event, held in the Zone H parking area, aimed to enhance firefighting skills, physical and mental readiness, and teamwork among the company’s own fire response teams. This year, 40 teams, each consisting of nine members, participated, totaling 360 firefighters from across the country. On November 14, Mr. Kundol Boonkrang, Senior Director of Property Management at Central Pattana Public Company Limited, presided over the opening ceremony. He highlighted the importance of the competition in refreshing firefighting knowledge, fostering camaraderie, and ensuring preparedness. The challenge tested both theoretical and practical firefighting skills through five competitive stations: 1. Physical Fitness Assessment 2. Victim Search and Rescue in Emergency Situations 3. Building Fire Suppression 4. Water Management in Firefighting 5. Theoretical Fire Safety Knowledge Test Each station was judged by facility managers, heads of Loss Prevention, and senior firefighter representatives from various Central branches, with fire safety consultants serving as final arbiters. The team with the highest combined score across all stations was declared the winner. Mr. Kundol noted that Central Pattana operates one of the largest private firefighting teams in Thailand, with over 1,000 members nationwide. The annual challenge not only serves as a training and evaluation exercise but also brings representatives from different branches together to exchange experiences and best practices. “This event allows us to ensure our firefighters remain skilled and ready for emergencies,” said Mr. Kundol. “It also fosters connections among team members scattered across the country and provides an opportunity to identify areas for improvement. Our firefighters don’t only protect our shopping centers but also assist in community emergencies, including flood response and other crises.” The Firefighter Challenge continues to strengthen the efficiency, skill, and teamwork of Central Pattana’s fire safety teams, ensuring they are prepared to respond effectively to any emergency. In a high-profile operation, law enforcement officers, including a special commando unit, arrested the mayor of a subdistrict administrative organisation (SAO) and his associates on charges of large-scale fraud amounting to hundreds of millions of baht. On the morning of November 16, Pol. Col. Somboon Siraeng, Superintendent of Nakhon Thai Police Station, Phitsanulok Province, led the raid in coordination with investigators from Phitsanulok province and a commando unit from the Central Investigation Bureau. Nearly 100 officers launched “Operation Dawn at Nabua” at the Nakhon Thai Police Station before dispersing teams armed with 16 court-issued warrants for search and arrest. The primary target was the residence of the alleged ringleader, identified in warrant No. 414/67 issued on November 15 by the Nakhon Thai Provincial Court. The operation also targeted 15 other suspects located in the same area. The suspects, including the village chief who chaired a local community bank, face charges of fraud and illegal borrowing schemes. Investigators revealed that this case is one of eight similar investigations involving 700 victims and a financial loss of 107 million baht. Combined with the other cases, the total damages exceed 400 million baht. The operation began at dawn, with officers converging on Nabua Village, Nakhon Thai District, where all suspects resided. The primary focus was the home of Mr. Somsak Chandi, the village bank’s president and the SAO mayor of Nabua. When officers arrived, they called for Mr. Somsak, who emerged in pajamas looking visibly startled. After officers presented the search and arrest warrants, Mr. Somsak reportedly froze momentarily before reacting angrily. He accused the superintendent of unfair targeting, claiming his home had been searched three times. Meanwhile, his visibly upset daughter argued with both the media and police present at the scene. Despite initial resistance, Mr. Somsak eventually changed into formal attire and complied, accompanying officers in an unmarked police vehicle to Nakhon Thai Police Station for further questioning. This raid marks a significant step in the crackdown on financial fraud affecting rural communities, with authorities pledging to pursue justice for all victims. A fire broke out in a residential building on Soi Thoet Thai 21, Bang Yi Ruea Subdistrict, Thonburi District, Bangkok, at approximately 10:55 on November 16. The fire occurred on the eighth floor of Talat Phlu Condominium, located at 100/195 Soi Thoet Thai 21, Thoet Thai Road. The building, an eight-story structure providing rental accommodations, suffered damage when the fire ignited in Room 580. The fire destroyed an air conditioning unit and spread to some of the furnishings, but was contained by the building’s sprinkler system. Unfortunately given the location of the air conditioning unit, the operation of the sprinkler produced a large amount of smoke, which effected the communal corridors. Firefighters quickly extinguished the flames using onlyportable fire extinguishers, preventing any possible further damage to the building. The building was evacuated, but two individuals sustained injuries in the incident. A 39-year-old woman suffered smoke inhalation and was transported to IMH Silom Hospital by volunteer responders and a 78-year-old woman who experienced fatigue from evacuating and was feeling faint with a weak pulse and was taken to Somdet Phra Pinklao Hospital for treatment. Preliminary investigations suggest that the fire was caused by an electrical short circuit in the air conditioning unit within the affected room. Authorities are continuing their investigation to ensure no further risks arise in the building. Picture from responders. -- 2024-11-17

Police Lieutenant Colonel Pleng Pankaew, Deputy Inspector of Investigation at Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya Police Station, responded on November 16, to a report of a woman who fatally injured herself with a knife at her residence in Pom Subdistrict, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya District. Medical personnel from Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya Hospital, investigators, and volunteers from the Ayutthaya Ruamjai Foundation also attended the scene. At the site, a two-house property, police found the body of Ms. Wannawimon Chuchit, 33, lying in front of the house. She had suffered a knife wound to her right calf, which resulted in significant blood loss. A large pool of blood was discovered both outside and inside the house. In the bedroom, officers found a 20 centimetre fruit knife on the mattress, which was collected as evidence. Mr. Ratchapol Phondee, 29, the victim's boyfriend of two months, reported that the incident occurred around 02:00. He explained that the victim had gone to a nearby convenience store on a motorcycle, leading to an argument when she returned. The dispute escalated when the victim expressed frustration, accusing him of mistrust. According to Mr. Ratchapol, she retrieved a fruit knife from the bedroom and used it to stab herself in the leg. Mr. Ratchapol stated that he did not witness the stabbing directly but attempted to save her by carrying her outside and calling for help from neighbours. Despite efforts to get her to a hospital, she succumbed to her injuries before medical assistance arrived. He also revealed that the victim had a history of self-harm during previous arguments. A relative of the deceased disclosed that the victim had a history of drug-related offences and had served time in prison. The relative, who had not seen her for a long time, was unaware that the victim had been living at the house with Mr. Ratchapol until notified of her death. The family awaits the results of the police investigation to confirm whether the death was indeed self- inflicted or if other factors were involved. Preliminary examinations by police and medical personnel revealed that the stab wound to the right leg had severed a major artery, causing fatal blood loss. The body has been sent to the Institute of Forensic Science in Pathum Thani for a detailed autopsy. Police have detained Mr. Ratchapol and other witnesses, including neighbours and children present in the house, for further questioning to determine the exact cause of death. The investigation is ongoing, with authorities committed to uncovering the circumstances surrounding the tragic event. An incident occurred in the early hours of November 16, when a Myanmar worker drowned while attempting to collect money from a krathongs during the Loy Krathong festival in Bang Maluan Park, Choeng Thale Subdistrict, Thalang District. Emergency responders from the Kusoldharm Phuket Foundation were dispatched to the scene around 02:45 along with a team of four divers. After approximately 20 minutes of searching, they recovered the body of a man, believed to be a migrant worker from Myanmar aged between 35 and 40. The victim was found submerged at a depth of four metres, wearing a black short-sleeved t-shirt and khaki shorts. Eyewitnesses reported that the victim was seen walking along the edge of the pond using a stick to probe for krathongs left floating in the water. One witness described seeing the man climb onto a large foam-based krathong designed as a mythical Naga serpent, measuring about 50-60 cm in diameter. “While sitting on the Naga-shaped krathong, it overturned, causing him to fall backward into the water,” the witness recalled. “At first, we thought he was playing, but then we saw him waving his hands frantically for help before disappearing beneath the surface. We immediately called the authorities.” Authorities believe the victim lost his balance and drowned after the krathong capsised. The incident highlights the dangers of engaging in risky behaviour during festive celebrations. Picture from responders. -- 2024-11-17

A crash occurred on Sukhumvit Road in Rayong Province on the evening of November 15, claiming the lives of a father and his teenage daughter, while his son was critically injured. The family was on their way to visit the children’s grandmother at the hospital when their white Toyota Hilux Vigo pickup truck rear-ended a trailer carrying longans. The incident was reported to police at 21:00. Officers from the Pe Police Station and rescue teams from the Sawang Porngkuson Foundation arrived at the scene, located 300 metres past Ban Phe’s traffic lights toward Rayong City. At the scene, the pickup truck was severely damaged. The driver, a 44-year-old man identified as Mr. Tai, was found dead inside the vehicle. His 16-year-old son, seated in the front passenger seat, was critically injured and rushed to Rayong Hospital. Tragically, the 14-year-old daughter, seated in the rear cab, also succumbed to her injuries as she was being extricated from the wreckage, having suffered a severe head wound and fractured skull. Mr. Waranchit, a 29-year-old neighbour of the family, shared that the victims lived near Wat Thammasathit, about 10 kilometres from the crash site. The father was taking his children to visit their grandmother, who was hospitalised. Waranchit, who was dining nearby, heard the crash and rushed to the scene, only to be shocked upon recognising his neighbour’s vehicle. The truck driver, Mr. Chamnarn 58, explained that he had parked his trailer on the roadside to relieve himself. As he was about to re-enter his vehicle, he saw the pickup truck driver lose control, veer toward the median strip, and swerve back, colliding with the trailer’s tail end. The victims’ mother, who had stayed behind due to work commitments, arrived at the scene in tears. Upon seeing her husband and daughter’s lifeless bodies, she broke down and fainted. Relatives revealed that she had finished work at 20.00 and was unable to accompany the family. Authorities have uncovered illegal operations at a factory in a designated free zone in Chachoengsao Province, more than a year after it was ordered to cease activities. The Ministry of Industry has pledged to pursue legal action to the fullest extent. On November 15, Mr. Ekanat Promphan, Minister of Industry, dispatched an inspection team led by Ms. Thitiphat Chotidetchaichanan, his chief of staff. The team included officials from the Department of Industrial Works (DIW), the Ministry of Industry Inspectorate Division, police from the Natural Resources and Environmental Crime Division (NRECD), the Customs Department, and Chachoengsao’s provincial industrial office. The team inspected P.C. Wood Products Co., Ltd., a facility in Plaeng Yao District that processes imported materials for export. Despite an official closure order issued in May 2023 for violating regulations under the Factory Act B.E. 2535, the factory was found operating illegally. The factory had been ordered to cease operations on May 25, 2023, after failing to comply with licensing requirements. However, during the inspection, authorities discovered it had resumed activities, including the unauthorized installation of machinery and continuous operations. Mr. Sarun Klin Sawat, managing director of P.C. Wood Products Co., Ltd., was arrested at the scene. He admitted to the violations and was charged with operating without proper authorisation. Mr. Ekanat emphasised the importance of strict monitoring of high-risk factories, even in free zones, which benefit from privileges such as tax exemptions. “No factory is exempt from compliance with the law, regardless of its location or privileges,” he said. Ms. Thitiphat added that the company had blamed delays in the licensing process but had made no real effort to meet the required standards over the past year. Instead, the factory had expanded operations and resumed production, knowing it was illegal. “This is a clear violation of the law, and claims of delays in the approval process hold no weight,” she said. “We will ensure the case is prosecuted to prevent environmental and community harm in the future.” Authorities have vowed to take further legal action to hold the violators accountable and prevent similar incidents. A crash occurred on the Nong Kham-Nong Leng Road in Sriracha, Chonburi, when a motorcycle rider lost control and crashed into a pickup truck, leading to the rider’s death. The incident was reported to the Nong Kham Police Station in Sriracha at around 15.00 on November 16. The motorcycle, a black Yamaha, was speeding and failed to navigate a sharp curve before crashing into an Isuzu pickup truck. The impact sent the rider, identified as 52-year-old Sutthin Kusita, flying through the air. His body landed on the hood of the truck, then fell to the ground and was dragged by the vehicle for some distance. The driver of the pickup truck, 47-year-old Kasem, stopped at the scene and waited for police. The collision caused the rider to be thrown onto the truck’s hood before falling to the road. In a state of shock, Kasem said he accidentally accelerated, dragging the body off the road and into a nearby field, where it was discovered underneath the vehicle. The victim was confirmed dead from neck injuries and multiple abrasions. Authorities are currently investigating the circumstances of the crash. A massive python, stretching over four metres in length, was captured inside the Pa Nong rice porridge restaurant in the heart of Aranyaprathet district, Sa Kaeo province. The snake’s appearance caused a commotion among local residents, leading to the intervention of a team of rescue volunteers from the Aranyaprathet Rescue Foundation. On November 15, Mr. Buntham Anusit, head of the foundation’s Eastern Region Snake Team, reported that they had been receiving daily requests to remove snakes, particularly pythons and boa constrictors, in the Aranyaprathet area. The district’s proximity to water sources, public forests, and agricultural fields makes it a frequent habitat for snakes that often wander into nearby communities, attracted by small animals and livestock. In this latest incident, the team received a call from Mr. Sawat Rujinern, the 50-year-old owner of the Pa Nong rice porridge restaurant. He described how the snake, about as thick as an average person’s leg, had entered his establishment, causing considerable alarm among onlookers. He shared that he first became aware of the snake after a neighbour spotted it slithering into the restaurant from the west side, likely coming from nearby forested areas. “It’s the largest snake I’ve ever seen enter the restaurant,” Mr. Sawat remarked. “We’ve had small snakes before, but nothing of this size.” Thanks to the combined efforts of multiple rescue team members, the snake was safely captured and will be relocated to a natural habitat. An incident unfolded in broad daylight on November 15 when a 15 year old teenager attacked a rescue volunteer with a screwdriver at a convenience store on Pracha Uthit Road, Thung Khru District, Bangkok. The young assailant, identified as "Tarn", admitted to the attack, explaining that he was under the influence of cannabis at the time. At approximately 15:20, police from the Ratchburana Station responded to reports of an altercation at the convenience store, located opposite the entrance to Soi Pracha Uthit 43. Upon arrival, authorities discovered a group of locals gathered around the scene. Several rescue volunteers from the Ruamkatanyu Foundation were also present, restraining the teenager who was holding a long screwdriver. According to witnesses, the teen first entered the store earlier in the day and began a confrontation a 39 year old female volunteer, Ms. Monthira Srimadee. Tarn allegedly yelled at her, saying, "Why are you looking at me?" despite no prior interaction. After a brief exchange of words, he pulled out the screwdriver from his waistband and lunged at her. Fortunately, Ms. Monthira and her partner were able to dodge the attack, escaping injury, but did mot report the event. However, the situation escalated later in the afternoon when the same assailant returned to the convenience store and attacked a second rescue volunteer with the same weapon. Tarn once again confronted the volunteer, but this time, the volunteer was able to evade the attack and assist in restraining the teen. The police were called and arrived to take Tarn into custody. During questioning at the Ratchburana Police Station, Tarn admitted to the attacks, attributing his actions to being under the influence of cannabis.
