  3. Police in Bang Lamung arrested a 28-year-old man and his 26-year-old wife on November 18, after they allegedly set fire to a pickup truck and threatened family members in a violent domestic incident. The case began when Ms. Suphawadee, 48, the suspect’s mother, filed a complaint at the Bang Lamung Police Station. She reported that her son, Sarawut, had damaged household property, set fire to the family’s pickup truck, and fled the scene, leaving behind a hidden firearm. Before fleeing, he allegedly threatened harm to other family members, causing widespread fear among them. Acting on a warrant issued by the Pattaya Provincial Court, Pol. Capt. Wutthipong Kasa, head of investigations at Bang Lamung Police Station, led a team of officers to arrest Sarawut and his wife, Ms. Wijittra, at a rented house in Moo 2, Ban Chang Subdistrict, Rayong Province. Both suspects were charged with trespassing, arson, and illegal possession of firearms and ammunition. Sarawut confessed to the crimes, citing frustration and depression stemming from unemployment, inability to contact his mother, and ongoing family conflicts as reasons for his actions. While Sarawut admitted to the arson, Ms. Wijittra claimed her involvement was limited to recording a video of the incident, which she sent to Sarawut’s mother. Following their arrest, the couple tearfully apologised to Ms. Suphawadee, who expressed deep sorrow over her son’s actions. Authorities seized a range of items as evidence, including: • A .38 caliber revolver • A disassembled revolver frame with associated components • 50 rounds of .38 caliber ammunition • Nine rounds of .22 caliber ammunition • Two 12-gauge shotgun shells • Three 9mm rounds • 16 spent .38 caliber casings • A 17-cm knife The suspects and the seized items have been handed over to investigators for further legal proceedings. 9. A potentially fatal incident was averted late on November 17, when a good Samaritan rescued a 31-year-old woman moments before her pickup truck was engulfed in flames on Highway 22, near Ban Hua Phon, Nakhon Phanom. The victim, identified as Ms. Meranee, a native of Nakhon Si Thammarat, works in Sakon Nakhon and was driving her black four-door Vigo pickup (license plate from Nakhon Si Thammarat). She was unharmed, thanks to the timely intervention of a motorcyclist who noticed sparks and flames coming from the vehicle. According to Lieutenant Parichat Thabthong, the investigating officer at Muang Nakhon Phanom Police Station, Ms. Meranee had been driving home after attending a merit-making event in Mukdahan. On the way, she remembered leaving her phone at a restaurant in Ban Don Moong, Nong Yat sub-district, and decided to turn back to retrieve it. While driving back, a motorcyclist following her noticed sparks near the right front wheel of her truck. Unaware of the danger, Ms. Meranee continued driving until the flames began spreading rapidly. The motorcyclist, realising the severity of the situation, sped ahead, got her to stop, then opened her car door and pulled her out to safety just in time, as the car burst into flames. Firefighters from Na Ratcha Khuai Subdistrict Administrative Organization and local disaster prevention authorities arrived quickly at the scene. With assistance from passing cement trucks, which used their water storage tanks to control the flames, the fire was extinguished within 15 minutes. However, the truck was completely destroyed. Ms. Meranee later filed a police report at Muang Nakhon Phanom Police Station and contacted her insurance provider. The charred remains of the vehicle were taken to the police station for further investigation. The motorcyclist who saved Ms. Meranee’s life described seeing sparks emanating from the vehicle’s front wheel and deciding to intervene. “I was afraid the car might explode, so I acted quickly. 14. A 24-year-old man lost his life in a road crash after offering to help an intoxicated friend by riding his motorcycle home. The incident occurred at 22:00 on November 17, near Soi Bang Kruai-Sai Noi 37, Bang Kruai-Sai Noi Road, Bang Krang Subdistrict, Mueang Nonthaburi District. Police from Bang Si Mueang Police Station, along with rescue personnel from the Poh Teck Tung Foundation, responded to the scene following reports of a collision between a motorcycle and a taxi. The victim, identified as Mr. Preechachai Songsri, 24, a motorcycle repair technician, was found deceased on the road. His blue Yamaha motorcycle (license plate from Bangkok) was lying nearby. A pink Toyota taxi (license plate from Bangkok) with visible damage to its front bumper was parked close to the scene. The taxi driver, Mr. Pradit Saengkaew, 69, was present and cooperated with the authorities. CCTV footage captured the sequence of events. Mr. Preechachai and a friend were riding two motorcycles. They stopped in the middle of the road, intending to turn into Soi Bang Kruai-Sai Noi 37. Suddenly, Mr. Preechachai’s motorcycle lost balance and fell, coinciding with the oncoming taxi, which struck and ran over him. The victim was a motorcycle repair technician in Bang Bua Thong. Earlier that evening, a friend of Mr. Preechachai, who had been drinking, visited him. Concerned for his friend’s safety, Mr. Preechachai offered to ride the friend’s motorcycle to his house in Soi Bang Kruai-Sai Noi 37, while the friend rode as a passenger on another bike. The crash occurred during this journey. Mr. Pradit, the taxi driver, stated that he was driving as usual when the motorcycle suddenly fell in his path. He was unable to brake or swerve in time, resulting in the collision. Police have recorded statements, inspected the scene, and retrieved the CCTV footage for further investigation. Preliminary analysis suggests the motorcycle’s height and the victim’s posture while stopping contributed to the loss of balance, causing the vehicle to topple. The body of the deceased has been transported to the Institute of Forensic Science for an autopsy. Meanwhile, authorities are continuing to question all parties involved and assess evidence to determine the next steps in the investigation. Picture from responders. -- 2024-11-18

  15. UPDATE Confession in Murder Case: Evidence Points to Possible Accomplices In a shocking development, the suspect in the brutal murder of a prosecutor’s mother-in-law has confessed to the crime, revealing chilling details of the incident. Police remain unconvinced she acted alone and are expanding their investigation to identify potential accomplices. Authorities detained Ms. Kamonwan Wolf 57, a close friend of the victim, as the prime suspect. She has now confessed, claiming she lured the victim to the crime scene and killed her single-handedly. The suspect stated, she invited the victim to visit her brother in Wang Chan. The victim was hesitant but eventually agreed. They arrived at the plantation in the late afternoon. The suspect recounted how she pulled the victim from the car when she refused to get out, citing the late hour. She then struck her repeatedly on the forehead with a metal pipe, continuing the assault until the victim stopped moving. After ensuring the victim was dead, she removed her jewellery, using the pipe to break her fingers to retrieve the rings, and discarded the severed fingers nearby. The suspect then drove away, disposing of the murder weapon in a trash bin and the victim's damaged phone in a canal. She sold the stolen jewellery at a gold shop in Ban Bueng, earning 80,000 baht, which she used to pay off gambling debts. The next day, she cleaned her car but was later apprehended by police. Key evidence leading to her confession included hair strands matching the suspect found under the victim’s nails, suggesting a struggle before her death. However, police are not fully convinced by her testimony, suspecting others may have been involved. Investigators are working to gather additional evidence and locate possible accomplices. Plans are planning to do a reconstruct of the crime scene based on the suspect’s confession on November 18. Authorities are determined to uncover the full extent of the crime and bring all perpetrators to justice. This case has drawn widespread attention due to its brutality and the victim’s relationship to a prosecutor. Picture courtesy of Khoasod. -- 2024-11-18
