  1. A fire broke out in a residential building on Soi Thoet Thai 21, Bang Yi Ruea Subdistrict, Thonburi District, Bangkok, at approximately 10:55 on November 16. The fire occurred on the eighth floor of Talat Phlu Condominium, located at 100/195 Soi Thoet Thai 21, Thoet Thai Road. The building, an eight-story structure providing rental accommodations, suffered damage when the fire ignited in Room 580. The fire destroyed an air conditioning unit and spread to some of the furnishings, but was contained by the building’s sprinkler system. Unfortunately given the location of the air conditioning unit, the operation of the sprinkler produced a large amount of smoke, which effected the communal corridors. Firefighters quickly extinguished the flames using onlyportable fire extinguishers, preventing any possible further damage to the building. The building was evacuated, but two individuals sustained injuries in the incident. A 39-year-old woman suffered smoke inhalation and was transported to IMH Silom Hospital by volunteer responders and a 78-year-old woman who experienced fatigue from evacuating and was feeling faint with a weak pulse and was taken to Somdet Phra Pinklao Hospital for treatment. Preliminary investigations suggest that the fire was caused by an electrical short circuit in the air conditioning unit within the affected room. Authorities are continuing their investigation to ensure no further risks arise in the building. Picture from responders. -- 2024-11-17

  2. Police Lieutenant Colonel Pleng Pankaew, Deputy Inspector of Investigation at Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya Police Station, responded on November 16, to a report of a woman who fatally injured herself with a knife at her residence in Pom Subdistrict, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya District. Medical personnel from Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya Hospital, investigators, and volunteers from the Ayutthaya Ruamjai Foundation also attended the scene. At the site, a two-house property, police found the body of Ms. Wannawimon Chuchit, 33, lying in front of the house. She had suffered a knife wound to her right calf, which resulted in significant blood loss. A large pool of blood was discovered both outside and inside the house. In the bedroom, officers found a 20 centimetre fruit knife on the mattress, which was collected as evidence. Mr. Ratchapol Phondee, 29, the victim's boyfriend of two months, reported that the incident occurred around 02:00. He explained that the victim had gone to a nearby convenience store on a motorcycle, leading to an argument when she returned. The dispute escalated when the victim expressed frustration, accusing him of mistrust. According to Mr. Ratchapol, she retrieved a fruit knife from the bedroom and used it to stab herself in the leg. Mr. Ratchapol stated that he did not witness the stabbing directly but attempted to save her by carrying her outside and calling for help from neighbours. Despite efforts to get her to a hospital, she succumbed to her injuries before medical assistance arrived. He also revealed that the victim had a history of self-harm during previous arguments. A relative of the deceased disclosed that the victim had a history of drug-related offences and had served time in prison. The relative, who had not seen her for a long time, was unaware that the victim had been living at the house with Mr. Ratchapol until notified of her death. The family awaits the results of the police investigation to confirm whether the death was indeed self- inflicted or if other factors were involved. Preliminary examinations by police and medical personnel revealed that the stab wound to the right leg had severed a major artery, causing fatal blood loss. The body has been sent to the Institute of Forensic Science in Pathum Thani for a detailed autopsy. Police have detained Mr. Ratchapol and other witnesses, including neighbours and children present in the house, for further questioning to determine the exact cause of death. The investigation is ongoing, with authorities committed to uncovering the circumstances surrounding the tragic event. 5. An incident occurred in the early hours of November 16, when a Myanmar worker drowned while attempting to collect money from a krathongs during the Loy Krathong festival in Bang Maluan Park, Choeng Thale Subdistrict, Thalang District. Emergency responders from the Kusoldharm Phuket Foundation were dispatched to the scene around 02:45 along with a team of four divers. After approximately 20 minutes of searching, they recovered the body of a man, believed to be a migrant worker from Myanmar aged between 35 and 40. The victim was found submerged at a depth of four metres, wearing a black short-sleeved t-shirt and khaki shorts. Eyewitnesses reported that the victim was seen walking along the edge of the pond using a stick to probe for krathongs left floating in the water. One witness described seeing the man climb onto a large foam-based krathong designed as a mythical Naga serpent, measuring about 50-60 cm in diameter. “While sitting on the Naga-shaped krathong, it overturned, causing him to fall backward into the water,” the witness recalled. “At first, we thought he was playing, but then we saw him waving his hands frantically for help before disappearing beneath the surface. We immediately called the authorities.” Authorities believe the victim lost his balance and drowned after the krathong capsised. The father was taking his children to visit their grandmother, who was hospitalised. Waranchit, who was dining nearby, heard the crash and rushed to the scene, only to be shocked upon recognising his neighbour’s vehicle. The truck driver, Mr. Chamnarn 58, explained that he had parked his trailer on the roadside to relieve himself. As he was about to re-enter his vehicle, he saw the pickup truck driver lose control, veer toward the median strip, and swerve back, colliding with the trailer’s tail end. 7. Authorities have uncovered illegal operations at a factory in a designated free zone in Chachoengsao Province, more than a year after it was ordered to cease activities. The Ministry of Industry has pledged to pursue legal action to the fullest extent. On November 15, Mr. Ekanat Promphan, Minister of Industry, dispatched an inspection team led by Ms. Thitiphat Chotidetchaichanan, his chief of staff. The team included officials from the Department of Industrial Works (DIW), the Ministry of Industry Inspectorate Division, police from the Natural Resources and Environmental Crime Division (NRECD), the Customs Department, and Chachoengsao’s provincial industrial office. The team inspected P.C. Wood Products Co., Ltd., a facility in Plaeng Yao District that processes imported materials for export. Despite an official closure order issued in May 2023 for violating regulations under the Factory Act B.E. 2535, the factory was found operating illegally. The factory had been ordered to cease operations on May 25, 2023, after failing to comply with licensing requirements. However, during the inspection, authorities discovered it had resumed activities, including the unauthorized installation of machinery and continuous operations. Mr. Sarun Klin Sawat, managing director of P.C. Wood Products Co., Ltd., was arrested at the scene. He admitted to the violations and was charged with operating without proper authorisation. Mr. Ekanat emphasised the importance of strict monitoring of high-risk factories, even in free zones, which benefit from privileges such as tax exemptions. “No factory is exempt from compliance with the law, regardless of its location or privileges,” he said. Ms. Thitiphat added that the company had blamed delays in the licensing process but had made no real effort to meet the required standards over the past year. Instead, the factory had expanded operations and resumed production, knowing it was illegal. “This is a clear violation of the law, and claims of delays in the approval process hold no weight,” she said. “We will ensure the case is prosecuted to prevent environmental and community harm in the future.” Authorities have vowed to take further legal action to hold the violators accountable and prevent similar incidents. 8. A crash occurred on the Nong Kham-Nong Leng Road in Sriracha, Chonburi, when a motorcycle rider lost control and crashed into a pickup truck, leading to the rider’s death. The incident was reported to the Nong Kham Police Station in Sriracha at around 15.00 on November 16. The motorcycle, a black Yamaha, was speeding and failed to navigate a sharp curve before crashing into an Isuzu pickup truck. The collision caused the rider to be thrown onto the truck’s hood before falling to the road. In a state of shock, Kasem said he accidentally accelerated, dragging the body off the road and into a nearby field, where it was discovered underneath the vehicle. The victim was confirmed dead from neck injuries and multiple abrasions. Authorities are currently investigating the circumstances of the crash. 9. A massive python, stretching over four metres in length, was captured inside the Pa Nong rice porridge restaurant in the heart of Aranyaprathet district, Sa Kaeo province. The snake’s appearance caused a commotion among local residents, leading to the intervention of a team of rescue volunteers from the Aranyaprathet Rescue Foundation. On November 15, Mr. Buntham Anusit, head of the foundation’s Eastern Region Snake Team, reported that they had been receiving daily requests to remove snakes, particularly pythons and boa constrictors, in the Aranyaprathet area. The district’s proximity to water sources, public forests, and agricultural fields makes it a frequent habitat for snakes that often wander into nearby communities, attracted by small animals and livestock. In this latest incident, the team received a call from Mr. Sawat Rujinern, the 50-year-old owner of the Pa Nong rice porridge restaurant. He described how the snake, about as thick as an average person’s leg, had entered his establishment, causing considerable alarm among onlookers. He shared that he first became aware of the snake after a neighbour spotted it slithering into the restaurant from the west side, likely coming from nearby forested areas. “It’s the largest snake I’ve ever seen enter the restaurant,” Mr. Sawat remarked. “We’ve had small snakes before, but nothing of this size.” Thanks to the combined efforts of multiple rescue team members, the snake was safely captured and will be relocated to a natural habitat. 20. A fire broke out at a chemical storage warehouse near Wasana Market in Krathum Baen District, Samut Sakhon, during the afternoon of November 15. The blaze caused extensive damage and raised concerns about potential chemical hazards in the area. The fire, which began around 13:00 occurred at the premises of Water Specialist Supply Co., Ltd., a chemical importer and distributor located in Khrai Subdistrict. Flames quickly spread throughout the facility, producing thick plumes of smoke visible from afar and sparking fears of hazardous chemical exposure in nearby communities. Local authorities and emergency services responded swiftly, deploying multiple fire engines to the scene. Firefighters worked to contain the blaze and prevent it from spreading further. Explosions were reported from within the facility, and the strong smell of chemicals added to the urgency of the situation. To ensure public safety, authorities cordoned off the area, restricting access to unauthorised personnel. A parked delivery truck within the warehouse was also destroyed by the fire. Fire crews battled the flames throughout the afternoon, prioritising containment to mitigate risks of escalation. Rescue volunteers and firefighters exercised extreme caution due to the hazardous nature of the chemicals stored at the site. The fire was finally extinguished during the early evening, with crews standing by incase of any flare ups. The warehouse reportedly housed approximately 40 large tanks of chlorine, plus other chemicals at the time of the incident. The chlorine is primarily used for water treatment and disinfection, making its containment a priority. The factory manager, Ms. Saijai Chaisen, confirmed that 17 office workers were present during the incident, while another 11 workers were out delivering goods. All employees were evacuated safely. One firefighter sustained injuries while operating in the challenging conditions inside the facility and was transported to Vichaiyut Hospital. He is now in stable condition and under medical care. Local authorities, led by Mr. Woranat Noorot, Deputy Governor of Samut Sakhon Province, have begun assessing the impact on nearby communities. Face masks were distributed to residents as a precaution, and health officials from Krathum Baen Hospital and other centres are monitoring potential symptoms of chemical exposure. The exact cause of the fire remains under investigation. Police and forensic experts will examine the site to determine the source of the blaze and assess the damages incurred. In response, the Samut Sakhon Provincial Government has instructed local administrative organisations to survey chemical storage facilities in the area. 24. A chilling murder unfolded in Bueng Kan province on November 14 when police discovered the body of 43-year-old Krongjak Thongsamut in a rice field near a rubber plantation in Ban Non Thai Prasit, Moo 11, Chomphu Phon subdistrict. The body, found at approximately 14:10, showed clear signs of violent assault. Investigators, led by Pol. Lt. Col. Worawut Ratcharee, forensic experts, and rescue teams, arrived at the scene to find Thongsamut lying lifeless near a paddy ridge. His body bore multiple injuries, including a head wound, a gash on his left cheek, a stab wound to the abdomen, and cuts on his right hand, suggesting he had tried to defend himself. Authorities believe he had been dead for about four hours when found. The discovery was made by a worker at a nearby rubber plantation, identified only as Ms. Pop. She reported seeing the body while dealing with her rubber trees and immediately alerted her sister, who then contacted the police. Police believe the victim may have been attacked while attempting to flee to the plantation for help, only to succumb to his injuries. Evidence found at the scene included a broken hoe handle stained with blood, a cap, and the suspect's abandoned motorcycle, all pointing toward foul play. Initially, two individuals were questioned, but no significant evidence linked them to the crime. The investigation soon turned toward a third suspect, 65-year-old Supot, who owns a hut near the crime scene. Witnesses reported seeing Supot with Thongsamut the day before the murder, sharing a meal and engaging in a heated discussion about stolen property. Supot, however, had gone missing, and police suspect a motive related to a dispute over stolen items, possibly involving drugs. A manhunt was launched to locate him. The search for the suspect ended when Supot was found on his return to his hut early on November 15. He was apprehended by authorities and later confessed to the brutal murder. Supot explained that years of accumulated anger led him to attack Thongsamut. After confronting him in the hut, Supot struck the victim on the head with a piece of wood and then repeatedly stabbed and slashed him with a knife, eventually leaving Thongsamut for dead in the rice field. Supot revealed to police that the victim had repeatedly stolen from him, taking items like food, household goods, and even fresh bamboo shoots to exchange for drugs. Despite repeated warnings, the thefts continued, fuelling Supot's anger. The suspect admitted that he had planned the murder, and after carrying out the attack, he returned to his hut and resumed his daily activities as if nothing had happened.
