  6. A team from the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB), led by the Economic Crime Suppression Division (ECD), raided an illegal e-cigarette factory in the Bang Khun Thian area of Bangkok, apprehending 23 migrant workers and a Chinese financier. Acting on a warrant issued by the Thonburi Criminal Court (No. 393/2567, dated November 15, 2024), authorities searched a commercial building on Soi Ekachai 89 in Bang Bon, Bangkok. The raid uncovered an illegal e-cigarette production operation. Among those arrested were Mrs. Liao, a 37-year-old Chinese national, and 22 workers of Myanmar nationality. Seized items included: • 3,510 e-cigarettes • 63 gallons of e-cigarette liquid • 8 production machines • 33,000 e-cigarette components • 9,600 packaging items The raid was the result of an ongoing investigation into the smuggling and illegal production of e-cigarettes. Initial surveillance indicated that the commercial building, outwardly appearing to manufacture cosmetics, was actually assembling e-cigarettes with components suspected to have been imported illegally. Upon entering the premises, authorities discovered migrant workers assembling e-cigarettes. The building’s owner, Mrs. Liao, was identified as the financier, while the Myanmar workers were employed as laborers. 8. In an incident in Bang Bon, Bangkok, a 14-year-old boy, identified as Master P. (alias), was fatally shot after attempting to settle a conflict with a former friend outside a gas station. At 00:20 on November 18, police officers from Bang Bon Police Station, led by Deputy Superintendent Pol. Lt. Col. Siwat Phumnum, received a report from Bangpakok 8 Hospital regarding a critically injured boy who had succumbed to gunshot wounds. Senior officers, including Pol. Col. Nukoon Krutsiri, Superintendent of Bang Bon Police Station, and investigators, were dispatched to the scene. The victim had sustained a fatal gunshot wound to the left side of his chest, piercing his heart. Investigators learned from Mr. Surasit, 18, a friend of the deceased, that the shooting occurred at a PT gas station on Bang Bon 4 Road. The shooter was identified as Mr. Chakraphan, 18, accompanied by Mr. Warakorn, 17, who rode a black-and-red Honda Wave motorcycle with Bangkok registration plates. Another individual, Mr. Chai, a Myanmar national, was also present. All three were former friends of the victim. Tensions arose after the victim borrowed 1,700 baht from Mr. Chai but failed to repay it. During a move to a new residence, Mr. Chai took a pair of the victim's jeans, leading to repeated disputes, including public exchanges on Facebook. This culminated in an agreement to meet at the gas station on November 17 to return the jeans and settle the debt. At 22:20 the victim arrived at the gas station with five friends. Upon seeing the opposing group arrive, the victim's group allegedly began throwing stones, injuring one member, Mг. Jakrin. Following this, Mr. Chakraphan and Mr. Warakorn reportedly returned to their nearby residence to retrieve a 9mm pistol. When they returned, Mr. Chakraphan fired a single shot, striking the victim. The victim's friends rushed him to Bangpakok 8 Hospital, but he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival. Police tracked Mr. Chakraphan and Mr. Warakorn to a rental house in Bang Khae District. Both were apprehended along with evidence, including a 9mm blank gun converted for live ammunition, a spent shell casing, and the motorcycle used in the incident. During interrogation, Mr. Chakraphan admitted to the shooting, claiming he acted out of anger after being attacked with stones. He revealed that he had purchased the firearm online for 7,000 baht for self-defense. Both suspects were charged with premeditated murder, illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition, carrying a firearm in public without justification, and discharging a firearm in a public area. While Mr. Chakraphan had no prior criminal record, Mr. Warakorn had previously been convicted of attempted murder and firearms offenses in January 2023 under the jurisdiction of Nong Khaem Police Station. He served six months in prison before receiving a pardon. The suspects have been handed over to investigators for further legal proceedings. Picture courtesy of Matichon -- 2024-11-19

  10. A man was found dead after being electrocuted after cutting grass near a canal. His wife had reported him missing the day before, leading to a search that ended with the discovery of his body. On the evening of November 17, Ms. Namphueng (44) called emergency responders after her husband, Mr. Wattanaporn (52), failed to return home as promised. All that was found at the scene was one of his shoes, left by the canal in the Prachachom Chuen area. After a lengthy search lasting over five hours, he was not found, and hope began to fade. The next morning November 18, residents discovered Mr. Wattanaporn’s body tangled in a patch of aquatic plants along the canal’s edge. Rescue worker Mr. Phanuwat Kaewnaphan, led the efforts to recover the body, but while descending into a boat to retrieve it, he was shocked by an electric current emanating from an unnoticed overhead power line that had sagged onto the ground and part of the canal. His arm went numb from the electric shock, but he was quickly pulled back to safety by his colleagues. After the power was isolated, officials found a burn mark on Mr. Wattanaporn’s back, consistent with an electric shock, possibly caused by the sagging power line. Authorities believe that after cutting the grass, Mr. Wattanaporn went into the canal to collect shrimp. It is suspected that while trying to climb back onto the shore, he was electrocuted by the exposed power line. Police with a local doctor confirmed the cause of death as electrocution. The body was sent for a full autopsy at Rajburi Hospital. The event has sparked outrage among local residents, who have long criticised the local authorities for failing to address the dangerous condition of the power lines. Despite multiple complaints over the years, nothing has been done to fix the issue, and the power lines continue to hang low, posing a risk to the community. Local villagers have now called for immediate action to prevent further incidents, urging the responsible agencies to fix the hazardous wiring and ensure public safety. 12. A devastating fire consumed the home of a retired teacher in Nakhon Luang District, Ayutthaya Province, on the night of November 17, causing damages estimated at over 5 million baht. The blaze was reported around 22:00, prompting police from Nakhon Luang Police Station and local fire department teams to rush to the scene at Moo 3, Pak Chan Subdistrict. Firefighters from Ayutthaya Ruamjai Association also joined the effort. The fire engulfed a two-story house, with a concrete ground floor and a wooden upper floor. While no injuries or fatalities were reported, the house was completely destroyed. Firefighters were able to prevent the fire from spreading to neighbouring buildings. Mr. Suchin Sildham, 69, the retired teacher and homeowner, said he lived alone. He was resting on the ground floor when neighbors alerted him to flames coming from the second floor. He immediately called the police and fire services. “I believe the fire started due to an electrical short circuit because there is a large electrical control panel upstairs,” Mr. Suchin stated. “The estimated damage to the house is around 5 million baht.” Authorities are currently conducting an investigation and have coordinated with forensic experts to determine the exact cause of the fire. 24. UPDATE German Husband Breaks Silence on Wife’s Role in Murder of Prosecutor’s Mother-in-Law In an exclusive interview with Thai media, the suspect’s husband, 68-year-old Waldemar Wolf, a German national, spoke from their home in a village in Si Racha, Chonburi. He recounted the events of that fateful day, stating that his wife had instructed him to stay home and not go anywhere. However, he had plans to meet friends in Pattaya for drinks and a football match. Ignoring her request, he left as planned, unaware of the events that would later unfold. He was later informed by the police that his wife had been involved in the murder. Waldemar expressed confusion, stating that he still doesn’t understand the true motives behind the crime. After being questioned, the police are satisfied with his replies and is currently no longer a suspect as an accomplice. Further investigation into the events surrounding the crime revealed key details from local witnesses. At a nearby gas station, a pump attendant shared his encounter with the suspect on the day of the murder. The arrest has shocked the local community, and authorities are working to uncover any further details that may explain this brutal act. Picture from gas station CCTV. -- 2024-11-19
