  2. In a bizarre incident, a woman was apprehended after allegedly stealing a funeral coffin cart from Boon Kanchararam Temple (Wat Nong Phang Khae) in Bang Lamung, Chonburi, claiming she “borrowed” it to use for drying her clothes. The incident occurred on the night of November 9, when the woman, described as mentally unstable, reportedly sneaked into the temple premises and took the coffin cart from in front of the crematorium. She also took a smaller handcart belonging to local residents near the temple. Witnesses reported seeing her pushing the carts out through the temple gate and onto Sukhumvit Road, heading toward South Pattaya. Municipal officers from Jomtien, conducting a routine patrol, spotted the woman pushing the cart and stopped her for questioning. When asked why she took the coffin cart, the woman insisted she had not stolen it but had “borrowed” it from the temple. When officers asked whom she had borrowed it from, she confidently replied that she had “borrowed it in her heart” and intended to use it as a drying rack for laundry. The officers escorted her and the cart back to the temple, where the temple caretakers confirmed the theft. Aunt Su, a 64-year-old temple caretaker, described the woman as mentally unstable and often seen around the temple, sometimes asking people for money. In the past, she had even attempted to take offerings meant for monks. Aunt Su noted that the woman likely acted impulsively due to her mental state, and thus neither the temple nor the local residents who owned the handcart wished to press charges. Authorities took the woman in to record a formal record of the incident and escorted her out of the area. The temple’s funeral cart was returned to its usual place. Fortunately, no funeral services were scheduled, as the cart is the only one available at the temple. Picture courtesy of Sattahip News. -- 2024-11-11

  9. Pol. Lt. Kunatip Khuikammi, Deputy Inspector of Investigation at Sattahip Police Station in Chonburi, received a report of a fire at approximately 19.55 on November 10, at the Jungle Moon Boutique Homestay Resort, located at 178/1 Moo 11, Bang Saray, Sattahip District, Chonburi. The officer coordinated with Mr. Yosawat Phuwaratlertkun, Mayor of Kled Kaew Subdistrict, to request fire trucks from nearby municipal departments, including those in Bang Saray, Kled Kaew, and Khet Udomsak, along with six emergency rescue units from the Sawang Rojanathamsathan Foundation. Firefighters arrived to find flames engulfing a wooden residence within the resort complex. Despite immediate efforts, the blaze took over an hour to fully extinguish. Thankfully, no injuries or fatalities were reported, but the owner, 47-year-old Mr. Pheeraphong Chaikampha, watched in shock as the flames consumed part of his property. Mr. Pheeraphong, who was inside the resort when he smelled smoke, found flames and heavy smoke coming from his private quarters. He tried to extinguish the fire with a fire extinguisher but was unsuccessful and quickly called emergency services. He managed to retrieve some valuables, including cash and gold, though the estimated damage to the property amounts to several million baht. The valuables saved included gold, weighing a total of 67 baht, worth approximately 3,000,000 baht, which was partially damaged by the fire Mayor Yosawat explained that after receiving the report, he instructed the local disaster prevention team to respond promptly and coordinated additional support from neighboring units. The Jungle Moon Boutique Homestay Resort, which offers accommodations and a cafe popular among foreign tourists, suffered damage due to what appears to be an electrical short circuit from decorative Christmas lighting wires near the guest rooms. Fortunately, the quick response from fire crews limited the damage to only part of the resort, and officials plan to assess further damage on the morning of November 11. Pol. Lt. Kunatip and his investigation team recorded the scene and confirmed that the suspected cause as an electrical short circuit. 12. At approximately 08:45 on November 10, Lt. Col. Watchira Phetrit, Deputy Inspector of Ban Khwao Police Station, Chaiyaphum Province, received a report from the owner of a rice mill in Moo 7, Non Daeng Subdistrict, Ban Khwao District, that a newborn’s body had been found in a canal behind the mill. Lt. Col. Watchira, along with local rescue teams and a medical examiner from Ban Khwao Hospital, immediately arrived at the scene to investigate. The canal, located behind the rice mill, is surrounded by bamboo and vegetation. In the water, they discovered the body of a newborn male, visibly bloated and with an umbilical cord still attached. The canal’s banks are overgrown with grass, and only a small section near the roadside allows water access. According to Sangwian, the rice mill owner, he opened the mill that morning as usual. While his employees were cleaning and performing regular duties, one worker who had gone to the restroom at the back of the facility noticed the baby’s body floating in the water. The employee immediately informed the authorities. Sangwian added that the mill only employs two female workers, both of whom have had sterilisation procedures and were not pregnant. He speculated that the infant might have been abandoned by a young mother who had terminated the pregnancy and disposed of the body in the canal near the roadside. Lt. Col. Watchira confirmed that the body will be sent for autopsy and DNA testing to try to identify the mother. Police are also reviewing security camera footage from nearby areas to identify any suspicious individuals who might have abandoned the infant. The investigation is ongoing, with authorities committed to locating the mother. Picture from responders. -- 2024-11-11

  16. A young man strangled a female friend in a fit of rage, later calling for help when he realised the severity of his actions. The victim ultimately did not survive. The suspect confessed, citing "accumulated resentment" as the motive. On the afternoon of November 10, the Tai Tek Tung Foundation Rescue Unit in Thung Yai District, Nakhon Si Thammarat, received an emergency call regarding an assault in an abandoned building near a local market. Rescue personnel arrived at the scene to find a young woman, identified as Ms. Ratchadaporn, aged 27, lying unconscious on the second floor of the building. She showed clear signs of strangulation around her neck, and, after initial attempts to revive her, she was pronounced dead at Thung Yai Hospital. Following the incident, Pol. Lt. Col. Thotsaphon Kanhihran of Thung Yai Police Station arrived to investigate and apprehended the suspect, Mr. Tontaragul, aged 22. He confessed to the assault, explaining that he worked odd jobs and had been living in the abandoned building for some time. He had known Ms. Ratchadaporn for over a year; she frequently visited him at the building and often borrowed money without repaying. Additionally, she had reportedly filmed videos of him without his consent, even after he repeatedly asked her to stop. Most recently, she had pawned his phone without reclaiming it, leading him to forbid her from visiting him again. According to Mr. Tontaragul, on the day of the incident, he ordered Ms. Ratchadaporn to leave the building, but she refused. In a moment of anger, he strangled her until she passed out. Realising the gravity of his actions, he left the building and asked a friend to call for help, but tragically, it was too late to save her. The suspect admitted to acting in a fit of rage and expressed regret, not anticipating that his actions would lead to her death. He returned to the scene afterward, intending to surrender to the police. He also disclosed that he had used methamphetamine prior to the incident. Mr. Tontaragul is currently in police custody for further investigation, and legal proceedings are underway. Ms. Ratchadaporn's body has been sent for a post-mortem. Picture from police -- 2024-11-11

After an hour, they managed to extinguish the blaze, but the old, dry wooden structure was completely destroyed. Ms. Maninuch Khemthong, 74 years old, the owner of the house, she said that her house was built next to Mae Ramad fresh market more than 30 years ago. The ground floor sells fish and fresh food. At the time of the incident, she was downstairs in the house and heard a noise similar to an electrical short circuit. It happened near her Buddha statue room on the second floor. Police are investigating the cause of the fire, and forensic officers are expected to examine the site to gather further details.
