In a shocking case of theft, a 30-year-old public safety officer was arrested on October 29, for stealing essential rescue equipment worth over 6 million baht from a Ubon Ratchathani rescue centre. The stolen items were later sold for a fraction of their value, at just 200,000 baht, with the funds used to modify his motorcycle and fund leisure activities. Police Lieutenant Colonel Kitipong Saliwan, an investigator from the Ubon Ratchathani City Police, reported that they had detained Mr. Kritsana, an employee of Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM) Centre 17, based in Chanthaburi. Mr. Kritsana is accused of stealing equipment on October 13 from Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Centre 13, located in Ubon Ratchathani. Among the recovered stolen items were hydraulic cutters, stabilisers, batteries, and a boat engine, totalling 11 pieces of high-value equipment essential for disaster response and rescue operations. The stolen equipment is valued at over 6 million baht, yet Mr. Kritsana sold them off cheaply across multiple locations, raising only about 200,000 baht, which he used to fund personal expenses, including modifying his motorcycle. Mr. Kritsana admitted to police that he had traveled with his mother from Chanthaburi to visit his father in Sisaket. He took advantage of his time in Ubon Ratchathani to carry out the theft. Familiar with the centre from a previous assignment assisting in flood response in 2022, he knew the layout and security measures well. Using a key similar to those used by the centre, he was able to unlock the storage facility and carry out the heist. Authorities have charged Mr. Kritsana with night time theft from a government facility. He is currently in custody and will face legal proceedings for his actions. Authorities in Prachuap Khiri Khan province responded at approximately 12.30 on October 29, to a report of a murder, after the body of a homeless woman was found in an abandoned restroom near a local market, adjacent to the Thap Sakae Municipal Childcare Centre. Police Lieutenant Visanu Sangman, Deputy Investigator at Thap Sakae Police Station, reported the incident and led a team to investigate the scene alongside forensic officers, rescue volunteers from the Sawang Rungrueng Thap Sakae Foundation, and a physician from Thap Sakae Hospital. The victim, identified as Ms. Soipradap Thongsuk, age 53, was discovered lying on a pillow near the restroom, beneath a large tamarind tree. She had visible injuries on her face and torso, with initial medical assessments suggesting she had been dead for at least three hours. A local resident, Mr. Somwang Saisard, age 62, who was intoxicated and speaking incoherently, told officers that he had been with the victim for approximately 20 years and that they had one son together. According to Mr. Somwang, he claimed that at least three assailants attacked his partner the previous night. He stated that when he attempted to intervene, the attackers fled. However, police were skeptical of his account due to his intoxicated state and his history of frequent alcohol-fueled disputes with the victim. Forensic officers collected fingerprints, DNA samples, and other evidence from the scene to aid in the investigation. The victim’s body has been sent to the Institute of Forensic Medicine for a post-mortem examination as authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding her death. Police received reports of a fatal shooting in Nakhon Si Thammarat province, on October 28. Police Lieutenant Kamnueg Songkhwan, along with other officials, responded to the scene, a stilted wooden house located at 39 Moo 5, Sam Tambon, Chulabhorn district. They found the body of 44-year-old Mr. Suchart (last name withheld), who had been fatally shot. The deceased was lying on his side near the house entrance, with shotgun wounds to his neck and chest. Nearby, police found his grey and black Honda Wave motorcycle with a sidecar, parked outside. Investigation revealed that the residence belonged to Mr. Klong (last name withheld), 79, father of Mrs. Amornrat (last name withheld), 39, the victim's wife. Earlier, Suchart had arrived at the home, calling for Amornrat to return with him to their residence in Na Mueang Boon, a neighbouring area. An argument erupted when she refused. Suchart reportedly circled the property on his motorcycle, threatening to harm her if she did not comply. In a sudden turn of events, Amornrat took up a registered shotgun, aimed through a window, and fired at her husband. She then reloaded and fired again, this time killing him instantly. Police Colonel Thawatchai Sanghamitkon, Chulabhorn Police Station, stated that Suchart and Amornrat, both farmers, had been married for years and had an 18 year old son. However, their relationship had deteriorated due to Suchart's drug involvement and violent behaviour. After a previous arrest for drug possession and theft, Suchart served over two years in prison and had recently been released. Since his release, his behaviour reportedly worsened, leading to frequent disputes and physical altercations. The night before the incident, Suchart allegedly assaulted Amornrat, prompting her to flee to her father's home for refuge. Suchart then tracked her down, demanding she return with him, which led to the fatal confrontation. Amornrat voluntarily surrendered to authorities, handing over the shotgun used in the incident. She confessed to the shooting, explaining that she acted in self-defense, fearing further assault from her husband. Police have confirmed that the firearm, registered to Mr. Klong, was legally owned. Authorities have taken Amornrat into custody for further investigation and will proceed with legal actions accordingly. Picture from responders. -- 2024-10-30

Elderly Man Sets Fire to Home in Attempted Suicide, Saved by Neighbours A 66 year old man attempted to set his home ablaze after a domestic dispute, only to be saved by quick-thinking neighbours. An incident occurred in Khlong Hae, Hat Yai District at approximately 11.45 on October 29, when a 66 year old man attempted to set his home ablaze after a domestic dispute, only to be saved by quick-thinking neighbours. The fire started in a two-story townhouse, with flames spreading through the living areas and filling the property with thick smoke. Identified as Mr. Pramuan, the homeowner reportedly became despondent after a heated argument with his wife. Frustrated with family conflicts, he initially attempted to electrocute himself using a kettle cord, but the attempt failed when the circuit breaker tripped. He then set fire to the house using his lighter, intending to end his life in the flames. Neighbours, alarmed by the smoke and flames, rushed to contain the fire with buckets of water but were unable to control it, but were able to drag Mr. Pramuan out of the building. Firefighters from the Khlong Hae and Hat Yai municipalities arrived swiftly, managing to extinguish the flames before they consumed the entire property. Most of the living room and household items sustained significant damage, but the fire did not spread to nearby homes. Police officers questioned Mr. Pramuan, who admitted his actions stemmed from long-standing family tensions and a recent argument with his wife. He confessed that, in anger, he had declared he would burn down the house, and, feeling taunted, followed through on the threat. Following the incident, police counseled Mr. Pramuan, encouraging him to seek support rather than resorting to self- harm. Family members were advised to engage in open dialogue to prevent future conflicts. Picture from responders. -- 2024-10-30

Oil Tanker Fire Breaks Out at Gas Station in Khon Kaen
Georgealbert replied to Georgealbert's topic in Isaan News
Most road tankers in Thailand carry both petrol and diesel at the same time, with internal separation. This is clearly identified on the vehicles as UN 1203 and UN1202 respectively. Any warning signage in the picture is hidden under the foam blanket. Vehicles often also carry the red class 3 hazard warning diamond, indicating flammable liquid, in the UN dangerous goods classification. Petrol and diesel may have different combustion and ignition properties, but once on fire they burn very similarly, so the firefighting techniques, heat, flame, running fuel control and suppression methods are the same. In a fire, the intense heat causes both petrol and diesel to vaporise quickly and this high-temperature vaporisation overrides the volatility differences the fuels have at lower temperatures. Once ignited, both will burn continuously if there’s a supply of heat, oxygen and fuel, as they are both hydrocarbons that release energy in the same exothermic reactions. -

A house fire in Songkhla claimed the life of a 67-year-old man while his elderly wife was saved by a group of brave university students. Despite their valiant efforts, the students could rescue only the woman, while her husband succumbed to the flames. The fire broke out late on October 28 at a two-story concrete home in Khao Rup Chang, Mueang District, Songkhla. Police officers from Songkhla Provincial Police Station, along with fire rescue teams, medical personnel from Songkhla Hospital, and volunteer rescuers, rushed to the scene. Flames were spreading rapidly through the ground floor of the house when emergency services arrived, after residents had attempted to control the blaze with extinguishers. Songkhla’s municipal firefighters managed to put out the fire after 30 minutes. When they entered the home, authorities discovered the charred body of a 67-year-old man near the entrance. According to his grandson, only he and his elderly grandmother, who is paralyzed, were in the house at the time. The man had recently undergone surgery and required a walking cane, which limited his mobility. The grandson, who was working nearby, hurried home after a neighbour informed him of the fire. Meanwhile, a group of young students who lived next door had rushed in to save his grandmother. One of the students, part of a group from Thaksin University and Phatthalung Technical College, described the harrowing rescue. They had just returned from running errands and were preparing to go out for dinner when they heard shouts and saw smoke coming from the elderly couple’s home. Realising someone was trapped, the students quickly entered and found the elderly woman clinging to a doorframe for support after her cane had fallen. They managed to bring her to safety. The students recounted that the woman mentioned her husband was still inside, prompting several of them to brave the dense smoke to look for him. However, the thick smoke obscured their view, and despite checking the bed and floor, they could not locate him. Unable to stay inside any longer due to the smoke, they had to exit the house, later learning the man had died just inside the entrance, apparently having tried to crawl out. Officials determined that an electrical short circuit in a fan outlet sparked the fire. The Thai news report below contains blurred out images of the fatality. A fire erupted in the early hours of October 29, at the Japanese Warehouse, a large second-hand Japanese goods store on Bung Si Fai Road, near the Phichit Electricity Authority in Mueang District. The Phichit Provincial Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Office, alongside other agencies, promptly deployed multiple fire trucks to the scene to contain the blaze, which was first reported at 01.00. The warehouse, formerly known as Porntip Furniture, housed a significant amount of flammable goods and materials, causing the fire to spread and grow rapidly. Responders have worked throughout the night to control the flames, but the highly flammable inventory made the firefighting efforts challenging. There were no reports of injuries, but there is damage to neighbouring buildings. Authorities are investigating the cause of the fire and assessing the extent and total cost of the damage. A video capturing a brawl between Thai locals and Arab tourists on Patong Beach, Phuket, is gaining rapid attention on social media after surfacing online. The confrontation, which erupted from a beach volleyball match gone wrong, involved physical altercations using punches, brooms, and branches, prompting widespread criticism over tourist behaviour. The altercation occurred on October 27, when Arab tourists and a group of Thais started playing volleyball around 17.00, setting a friendly but competitive rule that required the losing side to leave the court, allowing the winners to continue playing. However, tensions flared when the Arab team, after losing, allegedly refused to exit the court, sparking a heated argument that quickly escalated into a physical fight around 19:30. Patong Police on October 28, stated no formal complaint had been lodged. Mr. Ko, the individual who filmed and shared the video on Facebook, confirmed the details of the incident and said that, while unsure of any serious injuries, he decided not to report it to the authorities. He emphasised that his intention in posting the video was to highlight the need for restraint among tourists and discourage any future violent behaviour. As the video circulates widely, discussions on social media reflect a mix of concern and frustration from locals and tourists alike, calling for better management of beach activities to prevent such incidents from happening again. An incident early on October 28, saw a 19-year-old man fatally shot on a roadside in Phatthalung Province, Thailand, allegedly over an unresolved personal conflict. The victim, identified as Mr. Siwakorn, was found just 150 metres from his home, having been shot multiple times in what appears to be a targeted attack. Police Lieutenant Boonrit Nuakhiao and officers from Pa Phayom Police Station, along with rescue teams, responded to the scene on Na Sai - Bo Kai Road, Moo 2, Koh Tao Subdistrict, Pa Phayom District. They discovered Mr. Siwakorn's body lying in a pool of blood, with gunshot wounds from a .38 caliber firearm to his chest, back, left arm, left side, and nape. No shell casings were found at the scene. Police also uncovered four methamphetamine pills in his pocket, which were taken as evidence for further investigation. Initial investigations revealed that an unknown individual or individuals arrived at the victim's home by motorcycle and picked him up, likely for a planned discussion over a personal matter. About 20 minutes later, nearby residents reported hearing three to four gunshots. Village headman Wisut Klaisriboon was notified and, upon arriving at the scene, confirmed the victim had been fatally shot and subsequently alerted the police. Police are currently investigating potential motives, with initial suspicions pointing toward a dispute related to illicit activities.
