Picture courtesy of Khaosod A 31-year-old man was killed after being run over by an LPG tanker, just moments after inviting his mother to share a lunchtime bowl of instant noodles. The fatal crash, occurred on the morning of 3 June on Highway 347, near the Bang Pahan interchange in Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya province. Police Lieutenant Patcharapath Nueangphan, an investigator at Bang Pahan Police Station, received the emergency call around 10:30 and rushed to the scene with rescue units from Ayutthaya Ruamjai Foundation. At the site, authorities found a LPG tanker parked. Beneath the right front wheel was the lifeless body of Mr. Phetthae aged 31, whose remains showed severe injuries, with body parts torn and scattered on the road. Nearby, his damaged red Honda Wave motorbike lay. The lorry driver, Mr. Watchara, 53, gave a statement to police, explaining that he was driving in the right lane when he noticed the motorcycle approaching to overtake. According to him, the bike rider, lost balance and then fell under the lorry, leading to the fatal injuries. Shortly after the incident, the victim’s mother, Ms. Phuttharaksa, 59, arrived at the scene in tears. She told reporters that her son worked delivering auto parts and had invited her to cook and share some instant noodles for lunch just before leaving for work. “I was about to prepare lunch with him. He left first to deliver parts, and just a short while later, I was told he had died,” she said, grief-stricken. Police have documented the incident scene and taken the lorry driver in for further questioning. Legal proceedings are ongoing as investigations continue into the exact cause of the crash. Police Capture Drug Dealer, Arrested After Fleeing Across Border Picture courtesy of Khaosod Authorities have arrested a notorious national-level drug dealer known as “Nut Tha Khikhek” after he fled across the border to evade capture, only to be caught after returning to Thailand. Picture courtesy of Khaosod Authorities have arrested a notorious national-level drug dealer known as “Nut Tha Khikhek” after he fled across the border to evade capture, only to be caught after returning to Thailand. On 2 June, Pol. Maj. Gen. Songklod Krikkritaya, Commander of the Department of Special Investigation for Human Trafficking and Child Protection (DSI-Human Trafficking Division), ordered Pol. Col. Sarawut Chantawong and Pol. Lt. Col. Theerachot Noonsop of the same unit to apprehend 26-year-old Mr. Natthapong in connection with a serious drug trafficking case. Mr. Natthapong was wanted under a warrant issued by Nakhon Pathom Provincial Court (Case No. จ.326/2566, dated 21 June 2023) on charges including “conspiracy and involvement in serious narcotics offences” and “possession of Class 1 methamphetamine (Yaba) impacting national security.” He ranked as the 94th most wanted drug suspect in 2025 by the Office of the Narcotics Control Board (ONCB), with a bounty of 100,000 baht. The arrest took place at a residence in Sri Maha Pho district, Prachinburi Province. Investigations traced the suspect to a northern border drug trafficking network known locally as the “Mos Kolar Gang,” which smuggled drugs from the upper northern border into central Thailand, especially Nakhon Pathom and nearby provinces. Mr. Natthapong, a Thai national living near the Chiang Rai border with Myanmar, was identified as a key supplier for the gang, organising drug shipments and coordinating drivers to transport drugs from the border into rented houses in Nakhon Pathom. From there, gang members distributed narcotics to smaller dealers. Earlier police operations arrested 12 members of this network and seized 951,000 methamphetamine tablets valued at 50 million baht, 1,140 grams of crystal methamphetamine (ice), eight firearms, five vehicles and over three million baht in bank accounts. Records found in the gang’s transaction logs showed that the drugs originated from Tachilek district, Myanmar, crossing into Chiang Rai before being moved to Nakhon Pathom, with a total estimated volume exceeding 4.6 million tablets per shipment. Captured suspects implicated Mr. Natthapong as the supplier responsible for monthly shipments of over four million methamphetamine tablets for more than six months. The gang reportedly succeeded in distributing more than 100 million tablets during this period. Following the issuance of an arrest warrant, Mr. Natthapong fled across the border into Myanmar to avoid capture. However, police later received intelligence placing him at a house in Prachinburi Province, where he was apprehended. During questioning, the suspect denied the charges. He has been transferred to Pho Kaeo Police Station in Nakhon Pathom Province for further legal proceedings. Adapted by Asean Now from Khaosod 2025-06-04

A garbage collector in Bangkok’s Bangna district made a harrowing discovery on the morning of 3 June, after finding the body of a baby girl wrapped in a towel and placed inside a black plastic bag at a condominium on Soi Lasalle 30. At approximately 10:40, rescue volunteers from the Ruamkatanyu Foundation were alerted by Bangna district sanitation workers after one of them stumbled upon the body during routine waste sorting inside the condo’s designated rubbish area. The baby, believed to have been around eight months gestation, was found fully formed with the umbilical cord and placenta still attached. Authorities believe the infant had died within the previous 24 hours. The remains were wrapped in a white towel and placed inside two layers of black plastic bags before being discarded. Officers from Bangna Police Station, together with forensic specialists, were dispatched to the scene to conduct an investigation. The baby’s body has since been sent to the forensic department at King Chulalongkorn Memorial Hospital for a post-mortem examination. At this time, the identity of the mother remains unknown, and police are reviewing CCTV footage and speaking with residents and staff at the condominium in an effort to trace her. Picture courtesy of Khaosod Police in Phuket have arrested a teenage Myanmar national at a workers’ camp after photos of him brandishing a gun and large knives were posted on Facebook, causing alarm among local residents in the Cherng Talay area. The incident came to light after three photos were widely shared on social media, showing the teenager posing with what appeared to be a firearm and a sparta-style machete, while making rude hand gestures. The post sparked concern from the local community, who called on authorities to take immediate action. Cherng Talay Police Station posted an update stating that Pol. Col. Ekkarat Plaiduang, the station’s superintendent, ordered an investigation led by Pol. Lt. Col. Anurak Klangnarong, deputy superintendent of investigations, along with Pol. Capt. Wachira Amarin and Pol. Sub-Lt. Chanasin Pratheep Na Thalang, supported by the local investigative unit. The suspect was identified as “Zaw”, a Myanmar national living in an unnumbered workers’ camp in the Ban Yaa area of Si Sunthon subdistrict, Thalang district. Police located and detained him at the camp, where he admitted to being the person in the photos, along with several Myanmar acquaintances whose exact addresses he did not know. Upon questioning, Zaw confessed that the weapons in the images belonged to him. Officers determined that the gun was an imitation air gun and the knives, two in total, had been purchased from a local market. The police seized the weapons and proceeded to record Zaw’s personal details as part of a risk-profile database. He was also taken to the locations shown in the Facebook photos to confirm the scene of the incident. Authorities have not filed criminal charges at this time but are continuing to monitor the individual and his associates to ensure public safety. Adapted by Asean Now from Khaosod 2025-06-04

UPDATE Mastermind Behind E-Cigarette Heist Arrested After Fatal Security Guard Hit-and-Run Picture courtesy of Matichon. Police have arrested a key suspect in the violent robbery of confiscated e-cigarettes from a customs warehouse, which resulted in the death of a security guard. The suspect, identified as Mr. Sitthisak, also known as “Bank”, 38, was apprehended and taken in for interrogation this morning at Thungmahamek Police Station. The incident occurred in the early hours of 1 June at the Stadium Warehouse on Thanon Tha Ruea 1, Khlong Toei, Bangkok. A gang of six men used a van to gain access to the warehouse and attempted to steal confiscated e-cigarette products stored by the Customs Department. During the heist, Mr. Boonnak Sawatsuk, a security guard with the Port Authority of Thailand, intervened and was fatally struck by the gang’s vehicle while attempting to pursue them on a motorcycle. According to Deputy National Police Chief Pol Gen Prachuap Wongsuk, five suspects have already been arrested under court-issued warrants for charges including armed robbery resulting in death, night-time burglary of a government facility, illegal entry using force, destruction of property, and participation in a criminal gang. The five suspects in custody are: 1. Mr. Narintorn (“Bird”), 46 2. Mr. Thanatorn (“G”), 41 3. Mr. Piyakorn (“King”), 27 4. Mr. Ekachai (“Ek Bod”), 42 5. Mr. Suwat (“Lek”), 42 They allegedly acted under the direction of Mr. Bank, who was considered the ringleader and is also being charged with murder to conceal a criminal act. Authorities seized the gang’s van and recovered 493 e-cigarette devices, worth approximately 65,820 THB, which had been temporarily stored with another arrested suspect, Mr. Disorn (“Jay”), 41. He faces charges of handling stolen goods. Investigations revealed the gang had randomly broken the locks of five containers in search of valuable goods. They succeeded in stealing three boxes of e-cigarettes from one container before being confronted by the security guard. The Customs Department clarified that the containers had no labels indicating their contents, suggesting the criminals likely found the contraband through trial and error. Mr. Chaloemsak Buakaew, Director of the Seized Goods Division at the Customs Department, stated this was the first known case of stolen seized goods and commended the fallen security guard for his bravery. Police believe the stolen e-cigarettes were targeted for illegal online sale. Mr. Bank, who was already under surveillance for previous involvement in black-market e-cigarette distribution, is suspected of orchestrating the robbery as online sales of these products have become increasingly difficult due to tighter enforcement. Although some suspects claimed this was their first offence and denied any profit-sharing discussions, police remain sceptical. Investigators are also probing whether an insider may have tipped off the gang, though current evidence suggests random container targeting. Police vow to pursue the full truth and hold all involved accountable. Mr. Bank is now in custody and under intensive questioning as the investigation unfolds. Picture courtesy of Khaosod A fire broke out at a well-known resort in Chanthaburi late on the evening of 2 June, destroying a fitness centre after a golf cart battery caught fire while charging. The blaze rapidly spread, damaging gym equipment and the building’s structure before being brought under control. At approximately 21:30, police received a report of a fire at the fitness club of a four-star resort located in the Phatthawi subdistrict of Makham district. Firefighters from the Phatthawi municipal fire brigade, along with volunteers from Sawang Katanyu Chanthaburi Rescue, were dispatched to the scene. Upon arrival, the fire was found to be raging through the fitness centre, consuming gym equipment and the building’s insulated foam roofing, a highly flammable material. The fire is believed to have originated from a golf cart parked in front of the building, which was engulfed in flames. Hotel staff had attempted to extinguish the blaze using chemical fire extinguishers, but the fire continued to flare up. It took emergency crews around 20 minutes to bring the fire under control. Once extinguished, officials found extensive damage to both the building and its contents, including the gym equipment and the completely burned-out golf cart. A hotel employee stated that the golf cart, equipped with a lithium battery, had been plugged in for charging earlier in the evening while they went to a medical appointment. Upon returning late at night, they were alerted by guests that the vehicle had caught fire. Attempts to douse the flames with extinguishers were unsuccessful. The battery had previously fallen into water and was known to be faulty, having already overheated and seen sparking three times in the past. The resort, formerly a top-rated eco-resort and water park in Chanthaburi, is currently undergoing management changes and renovations. Fortunately, no injuries were reported. At the time of the incident, a group of guests, recently arrived from overseas, were checking in. Authorities are continuing their investigation to determine the exact cause of the fire. The young man’s body was later found on the road below the bridge, hours after his distraught wife posted a photograph of him with their young daughter in an emotional online appeal to help locate him. Police from Mueang Chonburi Station, led by Pol Lt Col Chinawat Thisala, were called to the scene on Sukhumvit Road, inbound towards Bangkok, in the Khlong Tamru subdistrict. Medical staff from Chonburi Hospital and rescue workers from the Thammaratsami Maneerat Foundation responded to the incident. The deceased, identified as Mr Amnuay, a resident of Khok Samrong District in Lopburi, was found on the road beneath the bridge with severe head injuries and a fractured neck. In his shoulder bag, officers discovered a replica handgun. His black-and-red Honda CPX motorcycle, registered in Saraburi, was found overturned on the bridge, with signs of scraping along the concrete barrier, indicating a high-impact collision. Witnesses reported seeing the motorcyclist strike a traffic cone just before ascending the bridge, before losing control and slamming into the side barrier. The force of the crash hurled him off the bridge onto the road below. During the police response, the victim’s wife contacted authorities seeking information. Overcome with emotion, she broke down in tears upon learning the news. Earlier, she had posted a photograph of her husband lovingly holding their daughter in a Facebook group, pleading for help in finding him after he failed to return home and she had no explanation to why he was missing. Authorities have since transported the body to Chonburi Hospital for formal procedures. Investigations into the crash are ongoing and arrangements are being made for the family to reclaim the body for religious rites. Adapted by Asean Now from Khaosod 2025-06-04

Picture courtesy of SiamChon. A 20-year-old Thai man was left injured after being assaulted by a group of men following a heated road incident involving his girlfriend and two other women in the Nong Prue area, just outside of Pattaya. The incident took place late at night along the Mabprachan Reservoir road, near Flowerland curve. According to reports, the victim suffered a head injury after being struck with a hard object, later confirmed by eyewitnesses to be a glass bottle and was promptly taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. Miss Krittiya, the girlfriend of the injured man, recounted the events leading up to the attack. She stated that the couple had been riding home on a motorcycle after an evening out when they encountered two women exiting a side street without checking for traffic. This forced the couple to brake suddenly to avoid a collision. In the heat of the moment, Krittiya admitted to shouting at the pair with an expletive-laden remark, “Can’t you even say sorry, you [expletive]?” before riding off towards a nearby 7-Eleven store at the entrance of Soi Phonprapha Nimit 27. The situation escalated shortly after, when the two women followed them to the convenience store and confronted the couple. Despite Krittiya offering an apology in an attempt to defuse the situation, one of the women warned that her boyfriend would be arriving shortly to “settle the matter.” Moments later, a group of men believed to be the women’s boyfriend and his associates arrived at the scene. The victim was then attacked, with at least one of the assailants striking him on the head with a glass bottle. Krittiya told reporters that she and her boyfriend had never met the attackers before and had no prior conflict with them. She added that her family filed an official complaint with Nong Prue Police Station, seeking to pursue legal action against all involved. The police are currently reviewing CCTV footage from the area and interviewing witnesses as part of the investigation. Authorities have urged anyone with information to come forward to assist with the case. Adapted by Asean Now from SiamChon 2025-06-04

Picture courtesy of Phuket Express A 36-year-old Russian man was apprehended by immigration officers at Phuket International Airport, facing serious allegations of fraud and cybercrimes. According to a statement released by Phuket Immigration, the suspect was intercepted in the international arrivals terminal and taken into custody without incident. Authorities confirmed he was wanted in connection with multiple offences, including public fraud, cybercrime and breaches of the Electronic Transactions Act. An arrest for the suspect had previously been issued by a Surat Thani court. Investigators allege that the individual played a key role in supporting illicit online activities designed to deceive the public. These reportedly involved unauthorised access to electronic banking systems and manipulation of online platforms for fraudulent purposes, in violation of The Computer Crimes Act. “The individual is accused of enabling access to financial accounts without lawful authority or intent, actions that are considered serious offences under current cybercrime legislation,” an immigration official stated. Following his arrest, the suspect was promptly transferred from Phuket to Surat Thani City Police Station, where he remains in custody while the investigation continues. Officials have not disclosed the specific nature or scale of the fraudulent operations allegedly linked to the suspect. Further details regarding his case, including his identity and possible associates, have not yet been released by authorities. The arrest underscores Thailand’s ongoing efforts to clamp down on transnational cybercrime and electronic fraud, particularly those exploiting digital banking systems and online commerce. Picture courtesy of Khaosod. A 54-year-old British tourist has been found dead on a beach on the Thai island of Koh Phangan, with authorities confirming that she likely drowned after going for a late-night swim while intoxicated. The body of Ms Alison, a UK national who had been staying on the island for about a month, was discovered early on the morning of Tuesday 3 June by a local man out for a morning walk on Chao Phao Beach, close to her rented bungalow. She was found wearing only an orange bra, with the matching underwear having washed ashore nearby. Police reported no signs on the body of violence or struggle. Lieutenant Colonel Apichat Chansamret, head of Koh Phangan Police Station, led the initial investigation, accompanied by a doctor from Koh Phangan Hospital. The scene was secured while a rescue unit from the Koh Phangan Kusonsraddha Foundation transported the body for autopsy. Medical examiners later confirmed that sand and seawater were found in the woman’s lungs, indicating drowning as the cause of death. Investigations revealed that Ms Alison had been staying at a bungalow near the beach since early May, with her check-out scheduled for 11 June. Staff at the accommodation told police she was a regular drinker. On the evening of 2 June, she had been seen consuming alcohol before heading to the beach to swim alone. A concerning incident had also occurred earlier that same day, when the woman reportedly fell and hit her head outside a local convenience store. Although bystanders offered assistance and helped her back to her accommodation, she refused medical treatment at the time. Police found her room undisturbed, with her passport and personal belongings intact. Officials have contacted the British Embassy in Bangkok to begin the process of notifying her next of kin. Authorities have ruled out foul play but will await final autopsy report before closing the case. Adapted by Asean Now from Khaosod 2025-06-03.

UPDATE Five Suspects Arrested in E-Cigarette Heist That Left Security Guard Dead Picture courtesy of Amarin. Five suspects involved in a daring heist that led to the death of a security guard have now been apprehended, while the alleged ringleader, known as “Bank,” remains on the run. The incident occurred in the early hours of 31 May, when a group of armed men in a van stormed a warehouse under the Port Authority of Thailand, which was being used by the Customs Department to store seized e-cigarettes. The thieves cut into a shipping container and attempted to make off with the contraband. As they fled the scene, the gang reversed their vehicle into a security guard who had tried to intercept them, killing him instantly. Following a thorough investigation, arrest warrants were issued for six suspects. Police have since taken five of them into custody: Bird, Ek, King, Ji, and Lek. Four were initially arrested, with Lek captured later on 2 June and brought to Tha Ruea Police Station for questioning. The prime suspect, identified as Sithisak or “Bank,” allegedly orchestrated the entire operation and was behind the wheel of the van that struck the guard. He is now wanted for murder, in addition to charges of armed robbery causing death, night-time theft, unlawful entry, criminal damage and membership of a criminal gang. According to initial police statements, all five detained suspects have confessed to their roles and confirmed that Bank led the group. Although they denied any specific allocation of tasks, they admitted acting together, from breaking into the container to keeping watch during the operation. After the fatal collision, Bank, Ji, and Lek reportedly transported the stolen goods to a location linked to an individual named Jay. Bird and Ek claimed Bank managed the entire plan and that they were unaware of the full details or their potential share of the loot. Investigators suspect that the gang had inside information, as they appeared to know which container held the valuable goods and when the warehouse gates would be opened. This has prompted further questioning of Customs Department personnel, although police have stressed that no law enforcement officers are believed to be involved. One suspect, Bird, had reportedly performed casual work at the police station before, such as cleaning and running errands. However, police have categorically denied any links between this case and serving officers, including speculation surrounding a van seen at the crime scene that resembled a police vehicle. Criminal records reveal that Bank has a prior robbery case from October 2024 at Tha Kham Police Station. Ek has a 2015 drug offence, King has both weapons (2020) and drug (2022) charges, while the other suspects have no previous convictions. Despite the gravity of the crimes, officers reported on 3 June that the five suspects in custody appeared cheerful, chatting and singing songs in their holding cell overnight. Police officials, including senior commanders from the Metropolitan Police Bureau, visited the station that morning to monitor the case and promised a full briefing. The hunt for Bank continues, with authorities believing he may still be in the Greater Bangkok area. Police have vowed to leave no stone unturned in bringing him and anyone else who may have aided the gang to justice. Adapted by Asean Now from Amarin 2025-06-03.

Ceiling Collapse at Thai Immigration Office Caused by Air Conditioning Leak Pictures courtesy of Amarin Immigration authorities have confirmed that a ceiling collapse at their training centre in central Bangkok was the result of an air conditioning malfunction, not a structural failure. Full story:https://aseannow.com/topic/1362529-ceiling-collapse-at-thai-immigration-office-caused-by-air-conditioning-leak/ -
Pictures courtesy of Amarin Immigration authorities have confirmed that a ceiling collapse at their training centre in central Bangkok was the result of an air conditioning malfunction, not a structural failure. The incident occurred at 09:00, on 2 June in the “Chaiyo Yodsuk” meeting room on the third floor of the Immigration Bureau’s Personnel Training and Welfare Centre on Rama I Road, Pathumwan district. According to initial investigations, condensation from a malfunctioning air conditioning unit had dripped onto the ceiling panels over an extended period, weakening them until they eventually gave way. A statement from the Immigration Bureau clarified that the collapse was unrelated to the building’s structural integrity. The damage was limited to one section of the meeting room ceiling. National Police Chief, Pol. Gen. Kittirat Phanpet, stated that the cause was water accumulation due to a clogged condenser in the air conditioning system. He noted that the unit had not been serviced for approximately three years, which led to poor ventilation and water leakage onto the ceiling panels. “This incident should serve as a reminder of the importance of regular maintenance,” said Pol. Gen. Kittirat. “The air filters must be changed and the air conditioning units cleaned every six months to prevent such failures.” The Royal Thai Police have instructed the engineering division and the Immigration Bureau to carry out a full inspection of the entire building. All other ceiling areas, air conditioning systems and potential leak points are being assessed to ensure the safety of staff and visitors. Authorities reiterated that no injuries were reported and that the building remains safe for use. Comprehensive maintenance and inspections are now underway.
