The pair, described as a man and woman of African descent, were reportedly seen in a compromising position early in the morning of 21 April, seemingly unfazed by the presence of other beachgoers. According to eyewitnesses and images shared online, the couple appeared to be involved in an intimate act for nearly 15 minutes on the public beach in Kathu District. Locals and tourists alike were left shocked by the brazen display, with many expressing disgust. Online commentary has been scathing, with users posting comments such as, “If you can’t wait, go to your hotel room,” and “Absolutely shameless behaviour – this is a public place!” Others remarked on the apparent lack of law enforcement presence, calling for heavier penalties for such offences. One local resident said, “It was truly obscene. We understand tourists want to enjoy themselves, but there are limits. This was completely unacceptable.” Authorities have yet to release an official statement, but public calls for fines or legal action against the couple are growing. This incident follows a string of reports highlighting unruly tourist behaviour in Thailand, raising concerns about the need for stricter enforcement and awareness campaigns about appropriate conduct in public spaces. 4. Picture courtesy of Daily News. A Taiwanese tourist has been left slightly injured after being struck in the face without provocation by a homeless man wielding a wooden stick in South Pattaya. The attack has reignited calls for urgent action to tackle homelessness and improve public safety in the resort city. The assault occurred at 22:35 on 21 April, outside a restaurant on South Patttaya Road. According to Ms. A the victim’s companion, 41-year-old Mr. J had been sitting outside the restaurant, which also houses rental room, waiting for a food delivery while scrolling through his mobile phone. Without warning, a man believed to be homeless approached Mr. J carrying a stick and struck him forcefully on the side of the head, near the ear. The attacker then walked away calmly, as if nothing had happened. Mr. J, bleeding and in shock, immediately contacted Ms. A, who took him to hospital for treatment. The incident was subsequently reported to the local police. The attacker is described as a tall, slim man, approximately 166–170 cm in height, wearing a long-sleeved black shirt and trousers, and carrying a beer bottle along with the stick used in the assault. Ms. A has offered a reward of 1,000 baht to anyone who can provide information leading to the attacker’s identification or arrest. She labelled the man as dangerous and warned the public to remain vigilant, noting that the assault occurred without any provocation. Local media reports note that this is not the first such attack in the area. Despite repeated clean-up operations, the problem of violent assaults involving homeless individuals remains unresolved. Authorities have yet to make an arrest in this latest case, and the suspect remains at large. Adapted by ASEAN Now from Daily News. -- 2025-04-22

The latest incident, which took place at kilometre marker 208+600 in Na Di district, saw a bus on the Nong Khai-Rayong route slam into the rear of an 18-wheeler. Seven people, including the driver, were killed, and 39 others were injured. Full story:https://aseannow.com/topic/1358423-toll-of-khao-san-pu-thon-11-years-of-deadly-crashes-on-route-304/
  7. Picture from responders. A fatal crash involving a passenger coach on Thailand’s Route 304 has once again drawn national attention to the notorious stretch of road near the Khao San Pu Thon shrine in Prachinburi province. The latest incident, which took place at kilometre marker 208+600 in Na Di district, saw a bus on the Nong Khai-Rayong route slam into the rear of an 18-wheeler. Seven people, including the driver, were killed, and 39 others were injured. This is not an isolated case. According to records compiled by JS100 Radio, the Khao San Pu Thon section of Route 304 has been the site of repeated and often deadly crashes for over a decade. The statistics from 2014 to 2025 paint a grim picture: at least 85 people have lost their lives, and 209 others have sustained injuries in 18 major incidents. Timeline of Tragedy (2014–2025): • 28 February 2014: A double-decker tour bus carrying students and teachers from Nakhon Ratchasima to Jomtien Beach crashed into an 18-wheel lorry after its brakes failed. 14 dead, 37 injured. • 2 August 2014: An 8-wheel truck with faulty brakes collided with five vehicles. 4 dead, 15 injured. • 28 March 2016: An 18-wheel sugar truck lost control and hit multiple vehicles, including a police car. 9 injured. • 8 January 2017: A pickup truck veered off-road, triggering a chain reaction. 1 injured. A second vehicle crashed at the same location shortly after. No injuries. • 3 February 2017: A 22-wheel truck carrying cassava flour lost its brakes and caused a 10-vehicle pile-up, setting several vehicles ablaze. Multiple casualties reported. • 9 March 2017: A student tour bus from Khon Kaen plunged off the road into a ravine. 6 dead, 44 injured. • 20 May 2017: A Honda Jazz hit a tree and caught fire. 5 dead. • 2 October 2017: An Isuzu pickup hit a tree. 3 dead. • 6 April 2020: A 22-wheel truck hit a pickup and overturned. Several dead and injured. • 22 September 2020: A community health workers’ tour bus crashed into a truck carrying steel. 15 injured. • 21 October 2020: A 22-wheel lorry hit a concrete barrier. 1 dead, 1 injured. • 15 May 2021: A sugar truck overturned. 1 dead, 1 injured. • 5 January 2023: Two trucks collided opposite the shrine, catching fire. 1 seriously injured. • 25 February 2023: A 22-wheel truck rammed a pickup, sparking a fire. 1 dead, 3 seriously injured. • 7 February 2024: A rubber truck crossed the median and hit an oncoming vehicle. 1 dead, 2 injured. • 29 March 2024: A teacher transport bus collided with a lorry near the shrine. 13 injured. • 26 February 2025: A municipal study tour bus from Bueng Kan province overturned. 18 dead, 31 injured. This 11-year span highlights a distressing pattern: many of the crashes involved brake failure, loss of control on steep descents, or heavy rain, with numerous incidents occurring within a few kilometres of the same shrine. Most of the vehicles involved were large trucks or passenger coaches, many transporting students or municipal employees on official trips. Local residents and safety campaigners have repeatedly called for improved road signage, speed monitoring, and stricter checks on heavy vehicle maintenance, particularly for those descending steep inclines near Khao San Pu Thon. With the death toll rising, calls are intensifying for the Ministry of Transport to implement long-overdue safety measures to prevent this stretch of road from claiming more lives. 9. Picture captured from CCTV. A woman was shot dead in broad daylight at her workplace in Nan province by her estranged husband, after repeated attempts to reconcile failed. Chilling CCTV footage captured the moment the man pulled out a handgun and shot her before fleeing the scene on a motorbike. The victim, a 31-year-old woman referred to only as Ms. A, was an employee at a local food shop in Nan. She was fatally shot on the morning of 21 April. Police later identified the suspect as 34-year-old Mr. Surasak, her husband. Footage from security cameras shows Mr. Surasak riding past his wife’s residence at 10:07 before heading to her workplace. Another camera outside the shop captured the confrontation at 10:16. In the video, Surasak is seen pleading with Ms. A to return to him. When she refused, telling him she would no longer tolerate his abuse, he drew a firearm and shot her at point-blank range before fleeing. A final camera recorded him riding away just one minute later. Shortly after the murder, the suspect posted on his personal Facebook account, claiming he needed time alone. He cited financial troubles and alleged that his wife had left him for the shop owner, accusing her of being a mistress. The victim’s mother, gave a heartbreaking account of years of domestic violence. She said her daughter had been physically assaulted by Mr. Surasak more than a hundred times, particularly when he was intoxicated. The last severe incident occurred on 21 March, when Ms. A was left with visible injuries. That was when her mother insisted she leave him for good. “He used to beat her almost every time he drank.” said the grieving mother. “I told her to separate. I think he was angry because I helped her leave him.” The mother also revealed that just four days prior to the shooting, Mr. Surasak had sent a threatening message to Ms. A’s sister, including a photo of a gun and ammunition. In the message, he warned that if Ms. A didn’t return, he would kill her entire family. Further distressing details emerged from Ms. A’s own Facebook post dated 21 March, where she shared images of injuries inflicted by her husband, revealing the extent of the abuse she had suffered. Police have launched a manhunt to track down Mr. Surasak, who remains at large. Authorities are urging the public to come forward with any information regarding his whereabouts as the investigation continues. Adapted by ASEAN Now from Matichon. -- 2025-04-22

  11. Pictures courtesy of Matichon. A lone male suspect who carried out a daring midday bank robbery on 21 April, in Chiang Mai and made a cool getaway on a red songthaew has been arrested just hours after the heist. The robbery occurred at 12:00 noon at the Kasikorn Bank’s Nong Prateep branch in the Tha Sala subdistrict of Mueang District. Police from Mae Ping Station, along with senior officers from Provincial Police Region 5, swiftly responded to the scene. CCTV footage showed a small-built man, dressed entirely in black and wearing a face mask, entering the bank alone. Armed with a foot-long knife, he approached a female teller and forced her to hand over a brown envelope containing approximately 42,000 baht in cash. The robbery took less than five minutes. Displaying remarkable composure, the suspect exited the bank, crossed the road, and boarded a red songthaew, heading towards the San Kamphaeng district. Police immediately launched an intensive manhunt, examining CCTV footage and tracing the escape route. By the late afternoon, the suspect, identified as 26-year-old Mr. Ariya from Nan Province, was arrested at a roadside shelter. Investigations revealed that after fleeing the bank, the suspect paid 300 baht via mobile transfer to the songthaew driver to be dropped at the Promenada intersection. He then hailed a Grab taxi to a local shop, where he used the stolen cash to purchase a red motorbike. Tracking his mobile signal, police determined that he was heading north towards Chiang Rai. Officers pursued him along the Chiang Mai–Chiang Rai road and eventually intercepted him at a roadside shelter in the Doi Nang Kaew area. During a search, police found the stolen cash hidden in the suspect’s shoes and seized the registration book of the newly purchased motorbike. Both were taken as evidence. The suspect was transported to Mae Ping Police Station for further questioning. Adapted by ASEAN Now from Matichon. -- 2025-04-22

  13. Picture courtesy of Matichon. A late-night shooting in Krabi has left an 18-year-old woman and her one-year-old son injured after five armed youths allegedly targeted a rival in a residential area, with the mother and child caught in the crossfire. The incident occurred late on 20 April in Moo 1, Krabi Noi Subdistrict, Mueang District. Officers from Krabi Provincial Police Station, led by Police Lieutenant Khunsawai Khunno, along with investigators from Region 8 and local administrative officials, responded to the scene, a single-storey concrete home, which was quickly cordoned off for investigation. Inside, police discovered blood stains trailing through the house, particularly near the kitchen door, where furniture and personal items had been left in disarray. The injured victims were later identified as Miss Sumontha, 18, of Moo 7, Thap Prik Subdistrict, and her one-year-old son. Initial investigations suggest the attackers used a locally made firearm. Sumontha sustained an injury to her left hand, while the child suffered three wounds, one to the chest and two to the arm. Both were swiftly transported to Krabi Hospital by local rescue services and are reportedly in stable condition. CCTV footage from a nearby property captured the attack. It shows two motorcycles, entering the alleyway around the time of the incident, each carrying multiple teenage youths. One of the bikes is seen leaving shortly before a gunshot is heard, followed by the second motorcycle speeding away moments later. Police have questioned several witnesses, including Mr Saksit 23, who was present at the scene. He recounted that he had arranged to meet a friend, Phuwanat, also 23 and the homeowner’s son, for a chicken barbecue. A group of nine friends had gathered at the back of the house along with the young child. Mr Saksit noticed two motorbikes passing by, one carrying two people, the other three. They doubled back and stopped outside the house, engines still running. Sensing danger, he urged Sumontha, who was carrying her child, to go inside. As she stood up, one of the five assailants opened fire, injuring both the mother and child before fleeing the scene. Mr Somsak, 42, the father of the injured woman, told police he was watching TV inside the house when he heard the gunshot and learned of the injuries moments later. Police suspect the attack was a revenge shooting between rival groups. Investigations are ongoing, and officers are continuing to gather evidence and pursue suspects involved. 15. UPDATE Army Sergeant Detained for Interrogation After Fatally Shooting Wife in Ratchaburi Picture courtesy of Matichon. A army sergeant has been taken into custody for questioning on 21 April, following the fatal shooting of his wife in their bedroom late on the night of 20 April in Photharam District, Ratchaburi Province. The suspect, identified as Sergeant Major First Class Taweesak, a soldier stationed at a military base in Ratchaburi, allegedly used a firearm to shoot and kill his 28-year-old wife, Ms Natthaya, inside their home in the subdistrict of Chet Samian. Following the incident, the suspect fled the scene but later surrendered himself to authorities. On 21 April, investigators at Photharam Police Station, accompanied by officers from the Judge Advocate General’s Department (military legal division), brought Sgt Maj Taweesak to the station’s second-floor interrogation room for questioning. According to preliminary reports, jealousy may have been the motive for the crime. While friends and acquaintances described Sgt Maj Taweesak as normally mild-mannered, it is believed that he may have acted out of sudden rage. Due to his status as a military officer, legal proceedings are expected to be handled by a military court. However, if the offence is found to have been committed in conjunction with a civilian matter, jurisdiction could be transferred to the Ratchaburi Provincial Court. The investigation remains ongoing as authorities prepare to seek detention orders from the military court. Adapted by ASEAN Now from Matichon. -- 2025-04-22

  17. Picture courtesy of CH7. A two-storey wooden house in Maha Sarakham province was reduced to charred remains after a 26-year-old man suffering from psychiatric illness deliberately set it on fire in a fit of rage and frustration at his mother’s behaviour. The incident occurred around midday on 21 April, in Moo 5, Bo Yai Subdistrict, Borabue District. Firefighters from the local subdistrict administrative organisation (SAO), alongside neighbouring units, rushed to the scene following emergency reports of a house fire. Despite villagers’ efforts to contain the blaze using buckets of water, the fire quickly consumed the house due to its wooden structure. Fire crews took approximately 45 minutes to extinguish the flames. Fortunately, nearby homes remained untouched. The house was left with nothing but 12 charred support beams standing. According to relatives, the suspect, Mr. Chawanthorn, had long struggled with mental illness and was frequently in conflict with his mother, who often left home to drink. Family members revealed that he had previously threatened to burn down the house on multiple occasions. That morning, after another dispute and feeling slighted by his mother’s absence, he reportedly acted on those threats. Witnesses said the man simply walked away from the scene after starting the fire. He was later apprehended by police at Ban Ploy School nearby. He is now in custody and undergoing drug testing. Authorities are preparing to formally charge him. The suspect’s mother, speaking while visibly distressed and intoxicated, said she never imagined her son would go through with his threats. “I cooked rice and washed the dishes for him before I went out. I didn’t think he would burn the house down,” she said. Mr. Jumpee Kaewkang, the assistant village head, confirmed that the suspect had a history of drug use dating back to his teenage years and had previously been treated at Khon Kaen Psychiatric Hospital. He had also violently attacked his parents in the past. Despite being detained by police on prior occasions, he was often released due to his mental health condition. 19. Picture courtesy of Matichon. What began as a routine day of fish farming turned into a scene of panic after a suspected bomb was discovered at a fish pond in Bang Phae District, Ratchaburion, on the evening of 20 April. At around 18:30, Mr Pramote Unkasem, village headman of Moo 6, Pho Hak Subdistrict, alerted local police after being informed of a suspicious object found in a fish pond. The object was discovered at a gourami fish pond in Moo 6, where workers had been draining water to catch fish for sale. Upon inspection, authorities found an object resembling a large, unexploded ordnance, approximately 37 centimetres in length, shaped like a traditional mortar shell. The item appeared to be in new condition, showing no signs of previous detonation. Officers immediately cordoned off the area and placed a rubber tyre over the device to minimise the risk of accidental explosion while waiting for the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team to arrive and safely remove it. The pond’s owner, 68-year-old Mr Wallop Chaiwatana, explained that he had leased the six-rai pond two years ago to farm gourami fish. Earlier that day, he had instructed his workers to pump out water to begin harvesting the fish. It was during this process that one of the workers noticed a strange object and placed it by the roadside near the pond. “At first, I thought it was just a piece of motorbike exhaust,” said Mr Wallop. “But my nephew insisted it looked suspicious and called the authorities. Turns out it was a bomb.” It is believed that the device had been buried near the pond’s edge, possibly during land reclamation by a previous owner. Over time, soil erosion caused the device to slip into the pond, where it remained hidden until the water was drained. The incident sparked fear among workers and prospective fish buyers, with many now hesitant to approach the pond, unsure whether more explosives may lie beneath the surface. As a precaution, Mr Wallop has ordered the pond to be refilled with water to prevent the fish from dying while authorities conduct further investigations. Officials are now working to determine whether additional ordnance remains in the area, with safety checks expected to continue in the coming days. Adapted by ASEAN Now from Matichon. -- 2025-04-22

  23. Picture courtesy of Khoasod. A 17-year-old girl was fatally shot in the forehead following a brief and seemingly innocuous exchange of glances at a BBQ restaurant in Pathum Thani. Police have confirmed they have identified the suspect and are intensifying efforts to apprehend him. The shooting occurred around 20:45 on 20 April in the Lam Luk Ka district. According to police reports, the victim, referred to as “Ae”, had gone to a mookata (Thai BBQ) restaurant in the Nana Charoen Market area with her boyfriend and three friends. While dining, the group encountered a young man, approximately 20 years old, tall and thin, with shoulder-length hair and tattoos on both legs. Witnesses say he repeatedly stared at the group but no verbal altercation occurred inside the restaurant. Sensing tension, the group quickly paid their bill and left on motorcycles. As they left the premises, the suspect allegedly followed them on a motorbike. When they reached a bend in the road near the Lam Sam Kaew subdistrict municipal office, the man opened fire, reportedly discharging three to four shots. One bullet struck Ae directly in the forehead, causing her to fall from the motorcycle. A short time later, the suspect returned to the scene to survey the aftermath before fleeing toward the restaurant once more. A local resident, Mr. Chatree Sae-yin, 52, who heard what he initially thought was a motorbike crash, described the harrowing scene. “When I got there, I saw the girl lying motionless on the ground. Her friends circled back, and I learned she had been shot in the forehead. I immediately called the police,” he said. A passing motorist helped transport the victim to hospital, but she later succumbed to her injuries. The victim’s mother, Ms. Jutarat Sumaporn, 36, said she was devastated by the loss. “My daughter went out with her boyfriend and friends to eat. Apparently, there was a group of teens staring at them. Her boyfriend felt something was off, so they left. I was told that the gunman followed them and shot her as she turned to look.” Police Colonel Kantapon Wanna, Superintendent of Khu Khot Police Station, confirmed that investigators have identified the gunman. CCTV footage is being reviewed from the restaurant, the shooting location, and along escape routes to determine if any accomplices were involved. The victim’s body has been transferred to Bhumibol Adulyadej Hospital’s forensic institute for post-mortem examination. Police have vowed to bring the perpetrator to justice swiftly. 25. Picture courtesy of Khaosod. A 71-year-old man in Buriram narrowly escaped with his life after a charcoal kiln exploded in the early hours of the morning of 21 April, sparking a fast-moving blaze that engulfed a cattle pen and killed two cows and an unborn calf. The incident occurred in Moo 3 village, Isan Khet subdistrict, Chalerm Phra Kiat district. Mr. Samphao, the elderly farmer who was still visibly shaken by the event, said he had been making charcoal for over 40 years but had never experienced anything like this. At around 01:30, Mr. Samphao was awoken by what sounded like an explosion outside his house. On inspection, he discovered flames shooting from the charcoal kiln. The fire quickly reached a nearby pile of over 400 hay bales, which then spread rapidly to the cattle pen. Acting on instinct, Mr. Samphao rushed to save the animals. The pen was divided into two sections, one of which housed a heavily pregnant cow and another. Despite his efforts, he was unable to reach that section due to the intense heat and flames, sustaining burns to his back, shoulders, and legs in the process. He did, however, manage to free three other cows from the adjacent pen. The two cows and the unborn calf in the second pen were burned alive. In addition to the loss of livestock, the fire destroyed valuable farming equipment, including a walking tractor and two chainsaws. What baffled Mr. Samphao most was how the kiln could have exploded. He had stopped using it 15 days earlier, regularly dousing it with water, and the area had seen heavy rainfall three times since then. Despite all precautions, the fire still erupted, something he had never encountered in his decades of charcoal production. His daughter, Ms. Saijai, 40, said she rushed to the scene from another house when she realised her father was in danger. She recounted how much her father loved the cattle, and how fortunate it was that he escaped the flames. Adapted by ASEAN Now from Khaosod. -- 2025-04-22
