  1. Pictures courtesy of Khaosod. An early morning crash on 4 June, has left two passengers dead and several others seriously injured after a long-distance tour bus travelling from Rayong to Surat Thani veered off the road and plunged into a central reservation. Authorities confirmed that the driver fell asleep at the wheel moments before the crash. The incident occurred at approximately 04:30 on Highway 4 (Phetkasem Road), near the entrance to King Rama VI Camp, home to Border Patrol Police Unit 14, in Hua Sai Subdistrict, Mueang District, Prachuap Khiri Khan province. Rescue teams from multiple agencies, including Sawang Prachuap Rescue Foundation, Huai Sai Subdistrict emergency medical services, Ao Noi Subdistrict medical responders, and the Highway Police, rushed to the scene after being alerted. Upon arrival, responders found a yellow interprovincial bus, registered in Chonburi and normally found operating the Rayong–Mukdahan route, damaged in the central reservation. The front of the vehicle had been damaged after it collided with roadside barriers and a utility pole. The impact shattered the front and side windows. There were 28 people onboard, including the driver. Two male passengers were pronounced dead at the scene. Five others sustained critical injuries and eight more were seriously hurt. All injured passengers were taken to Prachuap Khiri Khan Hospital for emergency treatment. The bus was being driven by Mr Thosaporn 51, who had taken over as the second driver during a scheduled rest stop in Hua Hin. He told police that he had dozed off momentarily just before the crash, causing the vehicle to veer off course and strike the guardrail and light pole before plunging into the median. Meanwhile, passengers with minor injuries who did not require hospitalisation were later picked up by an alternative bus provided by the transport company to continue their journey to Surat Thani. Police have launched an investigation, but this incident has again reignited public concern over driver fatigue on long-haul routes and the need for stricter monitoring of bus operators and their rest schedules. 3. Picture courtesy of Amarin A 10-year-old boy has died after being shot in the forehead at a hut in a paddy field in Kalasin province. Authorities are urgently investigating the circumstances of the incident, amid conflicting accounts from witnesses. The victim, identified as Surasak “Bas”, was found seriously injured with a gunshot wound to the right side of his forehead on the evening of 2 June. The incident occurred at approximately 21:00 at a two-storey wooden hut, roofed with corrugated iron, situated around 600 metres from Kok Kwang village in Maha Chai subdistrict, Somdet district. Rescue workers transported the boy to Somdet Hospital, but he succumbed to his injuries en route. A locally made Thai-style flintlock gun, typically used for hunting rodents, was discovered near the scene along with visible bloodstains on a bamboo platform outside the hut. According to investigators from Sahatsakhan Police Station, who are temporarily attached to Saeng Badan Police Station, the weapon was allegedly brought to the hut by a group of older boys aged between 14 and 18, who had taken Surasak with them to the rural location. The teenagers claim the gun accidentally discharged while Surasak was playing with it. However, police remain unconvinced by the explanation and are treating the matter with caution. “We are not ruling anything out at this stage,” said one officer. “All individuals present at the scene will be called in for questioning as part of the ongoing investigation.” Forensic teams have collected the weapon and other evidence for examination and autopsy results are expected to provide further clarity. The incident has shocked the local community and raised questions over access to homemade firearms in rural areas, as well as the supervision of children. Police have confirmed that investigations are continuing as they work to determine whether the shooting was indeed a tragic accident, or something more. Adapted by Asean Now from Amarin 2025-06-04

  5. Pictured courtesy of Workpoint, The body of a baby girl was discovered on the morning of 3 June, washed up along the edge of a mangrove forest in Khlung District, Chanthaburi Province. The infant, estimated to be no older than three months, was found face down in the water near Khlong Por canal with a visible wound on her forehead. At approximately 15:00, officers from Khlung Police Station, emergency services from Khlung Rescue Foundation and local administrative officials travelled by boat to the remote site in Moo 3, Bang Chan Subdistrict, after being alerted by a local fisherman. Initial examination revealed the infant had likely been dead for around 24 hours. The wound on her forehead appeared consistent with blunt force trauma, possibly from impact with a hard object. The baby’s body was gently recovered and taken by boat to the pier near Wat Tha Kha Yang temple, where it was handed over for forensic examination. At this stage, no relatives have come forward and there have been no reports of missing children in the area. According to the man who discovered the body, he was piloting his boat to a nearby shrimp pond when he noticed what he initially thought was a discarded doll. As he drew closer, a strong odour confirmed it was a human body. He immediately informed local village leaders and called the police. Local villagers performed a small ritual at the site, offering milk and snacks according to traditional beliefs, before authorities arrived. The canal where the body was found is known as Khlong Por, which flows from the Nam Daeng and Bang Chan communities. Residents believe that the low tide may have caused the body to drift and become lodged along the mangrove edge. Police are urging anyone who may recognise the baby or knows of a missing infant to contact Khlung Police Station. An autopsy and further investigation are underway to determine the cause of death. 7. Picture courtesy of Amarin A heartbreaking incident unfolded on the morning of 3 June, in the Sukhumvit 93 area of Bangkok, where a five-year-old girl was discovered clinging to the lifeless body of her father, who had reportedly died at least six hours earlier. The child, frail and severely malnourished, appears to had been without food for several days. Rescue workers and the Ministry of Social Development and Human Security (MSDHS) have stepped in to provide urgent assistance. Rescue volunteers from the Ruamkatanyu Foundation were alerted around 10:00 and rushed to the scene in Soi Pheung Mee 30. Mr Tharathon Kaetloi, 36, one of the first responders, recounted the distressing moment he entered the home after being called by concerned neighbours. “I was at home when a neighbour came to tell me something was wrong with the man who lived down the soi,” Mr Tharathon told reporters. “When we arrived, we found the young girl lying next to her father, who showed no signs of life. We called out several times, but there was no response. When we checked his body, it was already cold. We estimated he had been dead for at least six or seven hours.” The little girl was reportedly too weak to move, having not eaten or drunk anything for several days. “When we gave her a bottle of water, she drank it so quickly, we could see how dehydrated she was. It was absolutely heartbreaking,” Mr Tharathon added. Medical examiners later confirmed the father had died of an illness and would probably been unconscious for sometime before his death. His body was taken for religious rites at Wat Ratsatthatham temple in Bang Chak, Phra Khanong District. The rescue team assisted with funeral arrangements. Relatives of the deceased, including his aunt and cousin, said the father had worked odd jobs and scavenged for recyclable materials to support his daughter. “He always took care of her, especially after her mother left. We tried to help as much as we could, but times are hard, and we don’t have a steady income,” the aunt said tearfully. “When he fell ill, we tried to support him and the girl, but my daughter works and I’m elderly. The little one was very attached to her father. Even when he passed away, she continued to lie next to him,” she added. The MSDHS has since taken the child into protective care. Her family hopes to be reunited with her once their financial situation stabilises. “We haven’t abandoned her. We’re just struggling right now. When we have the means, we’ll bring her home,” said the aunt. This case has drawn public attention to the plight of vulnerable children living in poverty and isolation, with many calling for greater support systems to prevent such heartbreaking scenarios in the future. 9. Picture courtesy of Amarin A 28-year-old man has died after reportedly swallowing 49 methamphetamine pills during a police stop in Nakhon Pathom in an apparent attempt to conceal the drugs. The man began convulsing in a police holding cell and later died in hospital, prompting his family to seek justice. The deceased, Mr Theeranai Chumpan, had been driving to work in the early hours of 2 June when he encountered a police checkpoint operated by Mueang Nakhon Pathom Police. According to his wife, Ms Natthawadee, Mr Theeranai panicked, swallowed a packet of methamphetamine tablets and attempted to flee. He was quickly apprehended by officers, who managed to retrieve only the empty plastic drug packet from his throat. Police then escorted Mr Theeranai to Nakhon Pathom Hospital for a drug test. He reportedly told medical staff that he had swallowed only two pills and was returned to the police station for observation. According to Ms Natthawadee, she visited her husband at the station around 08:00. Initially, he appeared stable, but later he began convulsing violently in his cell, grabbing onto the iron bars before collapsing. She immediately alerted police officers and investigators, who called for assistance and carried him downstairs. Blood was seen coming from his mouth and nose as he was laid near the police vehicle. He was transported to Nakhon Pathom Hospital with CPR administered en route. Despite efforts to save him, Mr Theeranai was pronounced dead at 15:40. The family alleges that officers failed to take the situation seriously and delayed medical assistance. Ms Natthawadee claims an officer told her that unless her husband was foaming at the mouth, they would not take him to hospital. Police Colonel Achirawat Thaworncharoenwat, Superintendent of Mueang Nakhon Pathom Police Station, confirmed that a fellow detainee told officers that Mr Theeranai admitted to swallowing 49 meth pills. He said a formal investigation committee will be established to look into the incident and promised full cooperation with the family. The case has raised serious concerns over police conduct, detainee safety and emergency response protocols in custody. Adapted by Asean Now from Amarin 2025-06-04

The incident occurred around 10:00 on 3 June, on a curved section of the Ban Na Lao–Ban Hua Fai Road in Don Mon Subdistrict, Satuek District. Police Captain Naphat Sutthithanakul, investigator at Satuek Police Station, along with emergency responders, arrived at the scene to find the body of Mrs Kan, a resident of Ban Khok Sawang, Kaen Dong District. She was lying lifeless in the middle of the road, having suffered multiple fractures. Her red Honda Wave motorcycle was discovered badly damaged nearby. The white Toyota pickup truck involved, driven by Mr Thawon, 64, of Ban Hua Fai, showed clear signs of impact on its front right side. The vehicle had five sacks of fertiliser loaded in the back at the time of the crash. Mr Thawon told police that he had been returning from buying fertiliser when, at a curve in the road, two motorcycles approached in the opposite direction. Suddenly, one of them, Mrs Kan’s, overtook the other and veered directly into his lane, leaving him no time to avoid the collision. Shortly afterward, the victim’s husband, Mr Sompharn, 59 and their daughter arrived at the scene. Mr Sompharn was visibly distressed and furious, particularly at Mrs Ploy, 56, a close friend of the deceased. According to Mr Sompharn, Mrs Ploy had regularly invited his wife to drink alcohol from morning until night, even allowing her to sleep over after long drinking sessions. He said that despite repeated warnings, his wife continued to join her friend in drinking. On the evening before crash, Mrs Kan left home to drink with Mrs Ploy and the pair reportedly continued drinking into the next morning. When questioned, Mrs Ploy, still visibly intoxicated, admitted that the two had been drinking together since the previous day. She said Mrs Kan had left that morning but did not say where she was heading. Not long afterward, word arrived that her friend had died just 50 metres away from where they had been drinking. When asked whether she would stop drinking following her friend’s tragic death, Mrs Ploy responded defiantly, “I won’t stop drinking.” Police continue to investigate the incident. A 69-year-old man has been arrested after fatally stabbing his 77-year-old wife, who suffered from Alzheimer’s disease, during a domestic dispute in their Bangkok home. He later called the police himself, expressing remorse for his actions. The incident occurred on the afternoon of 2 June at a townhouse in Soi Charansanitwong 37, Bang Khun Si subdistrict, Bangkok Noi district. Officers from Bang Khun Non Police Station, along with forensic investigators and a medical examiner from Siriraj Hospital, responded to the scene. The body of the elderly woman was found lying in front of the ground floor bathroom door. She was wearing black floral pyjamas and a kitchen knife was found lodged in her left chest. There were no signs of a struggle in the house. Her husband remained at the scene and surrendered without resistance. In his police statement, the man explained that his wife had long suffered from Alzheimer’s disease, osteoporosis and limited mobility. He described her as often irritable and forgetful and admitted that her restlessness and tendency to wake him at night had caused him prolonged stress due to his difficulty sleeping. On the day of the incident, he had warned his wife not to use the bathroom unaided for fear she might fall. However, she insisted on going alone and ended up slipping. In the heat of the moment, angered and frustrated, he claimed he lost control and grabbed a knife before stabbing her in the chest. Overwhelmed by guilt, he immediately called the police to report what he had done. The body has been sent to the hospital for examination. Police have taken the husband into custody, along with the murder weapon and have charged him. Adapted by Asean Now from Khaosod 2025-06-04

  14. 15. Picture courtesy of Khaosod The government has rejected claims of internal rifts with the military and firmly denied any plans to close the Thai-Cambodia border, amid escalating social media criticism over the administration’s handling of a sensitive territorial dispute with Cambodia. Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister Phumtham Wechayachai issued a statement on the evening of 3 June, addressing online speculation, reiterating that both the government and military remain united in seeking a peaceful resolution. “The military leadership and I have consulted repeatedly and share the same position. Both governments are trying to de-escalate the situation, focusing on the national interest and protecting sovereignty,” Phumtham said via social media. Phumtham also clarified that while a border closure is not tantamount to military action, such a move would have significant economic consequences for people living along the frontier and complicate diplomatic efforts. Growing nationalist sentiment online has slammed the government’s perceived softness in response to Cambodian political moves over the disputed border areas, including threats by Phnom Penh to take the matter to the International Court of Justice (ICJ). Some critics argue that the Thai government’s measured response stems from historically close ties between the Shinawatra and Hun political families. Viroj Lakkhanaadisorn, MP and chairman of the House Committee on Military Affairs, publicly backed Lt. Gen. Boonsing Padklang, Commander of the Second Army Area, for his firm yet measured response. “Lt. Gen. Boonsing has fulfilled his duties with strength and patience, safeguarding national sovereignty while remaining open to peaceful negotiation,” Viroj said in a Facebook post. Viroj cautioned against making careless public statements that could be manipulated by Cambodia in future negotiations. He acknowledged the government’s need for strategic restraint but urged leaders to communicate clearly with the public to demonstrate that the issue is being handled seriously. He warned that Cambodia’s ICJ threat was likely a political manoeuvre aimed at strengthening its negotiating position, noting that a court decision could take years and harm both nations’ economies. “Even if Thailand could win a military conflict, the cost in human life, economic stability and the well-being of border communities would be too high,” Viroj added. “We must exhaust all peaceful options before resorting to force, and only then would military action be justified.” The situation remains tense but contained, with both sides still officially committed to dialogue. The Thai government maintains that it will act decisively, lawfully and proportionately to protect the nation’s territorial integrity. 17. Picture courtesy of Khaosod. Police have arrested a 21-year-old man involved in a violent altercation between rival youth groups behind Wat Pradu in Bangkok, which culminated in gunfire. The suspect, identified as Anon “Joy” Chiamchan, was apprehended on 3 June, at around 12:30, following an investigation led by senior officers from the Metropolitan Police Bureau and the Tao Poon Police Station. The incident occurred in the early hours of 31 May, at approximately 01:00, near a bridge over a canal behind Wat Pradu, in the Bang Sue district. Eyewitness reports and CCTV footage revealed that three shots had been fired during a confrontation between teenagers. Anon was found in possession of a semi-automatic .45 calibre Remington Rand 1911A1 pistol, one round of ammunition, a magazine, a brown leather holster, a white T-shirt and a pair of blue-and-white shorts worn during the incident. He was taken into custody at the Tao Poon Police Investigation Unit office. Following a thorough review of nearby surveillance footage and witness interviews, police determined that Anon had discharged the firearm. He was subsequently summoned to the investigation office where he voluntarily surrendered the weapon, ammunition and clothing used during the altercation. During questioning, Anon confessed that a group of youths had started a fight near his home, escalating when an individual named Mr. Peerapong “Diao” Chuensangchan arrived on a motorbike and allegedly threatened him and his younger sibling. Anon claimed Diao reached for a weapon near the rear of his house, prompting him to retrieve his unlicensed firearm and fire three shots into the air in an attempt to deter the aggressors. Diao then reportedly fled the scene. Police confirmed Anon’s version of events aligned with the forensic and visual evidence. He now faces three charges: • Illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition, • Carrying a firearm in public without permission or reasonable cause, and • Discharging a firearm in a public place without justifiable reason. Authorities confirmed that the dispute stemmed from a youth conflict and had no connection to illegal money-lending operations, despite initial rumours suggesting otherwise. Following the formal arrest, Anon was informed of his legal rights and transferred, along with the seized evidence, to Tao Poon Police Station for prosecution under the law. 21. Picture courtesy of Khaosod Authorities have arrested a notorious national-level drug dealer known as “Nut Tha Khikhek” after he fled across the border to evade capture, only to be caught after returning to Thailand. On 2 June, Pol. Maj. Gen. Songklod Krikkritaya, Commander of the Department of Special Investigation for Human Trafficking and Child Protection (DSI-Human Trafficking Division), ordered Pol. Col. Sarawut Chantawong and Pol. Lt. Col. Theerachot Noonsop of the same unit to apprehend 26-year-old Mr. Natthapong in connection with a serious drug trafficking case. Mr. Natthapong was wanted under a warrant issued by Nakhon Pathom Provincial Court (Case No. จ.326/2566, dated 21 June 2023) on charges including “conspiracy and involvement in serious narcotics offences” and “possession of Class 1 methamphetamine (Yaba) impacting national security.” He ranked as the 94th most wanted drug suspect in 2025 by the Office of the Narcotics Control Board (ONCB), with a bounty of 100,000 baht. The arrest took place at a residence in Sri Maha Pho district, Prachinburi Province. Investigations traced the suspect to a northern border drug trafficking network known locally as the “Mos Kolar Gang,” which smuggled drugs from the upper northern border into central Thailand, especially Nakhon Pathom and nearby provinces. Mr. Natthapong, a Thai national living near the Chiang Rai border with Myanmar, was identified as a key supplier for the gang, organising drug shipments and coordinating drivers to transport drugs from the border into rented houses in Nakhon Pathom. From there, gang members distributed narcotics to smaller dealers. Earlier police operations arrested 12 members of this network and seized 951,000 methamphetamine tablets valued at 50 million baht, 1,140 grams of crystal methamphetamine (ice), eight firearms, five vehicles and over three million baht in bank accounts. Records found in the gang’s transaction logs showed that the drugs originated from Tachilek district, Myanmar, crossing into Chiang Rai before being moved to Nakhon Pathom, with a total estimated volume exceeding 4.6 million tablets per shipment. Captured suspects implicated Mr. Natthapong as the supplier responsible for monthly shipments of over four million methamphetamine tablets for more than six months. The gang reportedly succeeded in distributing more than 100 million tablets during this period. Following the issuance of an arrest warrant, Mr. Natthapong fled across the border into Myanmar to avoid capture. However, police later received intelligence placing him at a house in Prachinburi Province, where he was apprehended. During questioning, the suspect denied the charges. He has been transferred to Pho Kaeo Police Station in Nakhon Pathom Province for further legal proceedings. Adapted by Asean Now from Khaosod 2025-06-04

At approximately 10:40, rescue volunteers from the Ruamkatanyu Foundation were alerted by Bangna district sanitation workers after one of them stumbled upon the body during routine waste sorting inside the condo’s designated rubbish area. The baby, believed to have been around eight months gestation, was found fully formed with the umbilical cord and placenta still attached. Authorities believe the infant had died within the previous 24 hours. The remains were wrapped in a white towel and placed inside two layers of black plastic bags before being discarded. Officers from Bangna Police Station, together with forensic specialists, were dispatched to the scene to conduct an investigation. The baby’s body has since been sent to the forensic department at King Chulalongkorn Memorial Hospital for a post-mortem examination. 25. Picture courtesy of Khaosod Police in Phuket have arrested a teenage Myanmar national at a workers’ camp after photos of him brandishing a gun and large knives were posted on Facebook, causing alarm among local residents in the Cherng Talay area. The incident came to light after three photos were widely shared on social media, showing the teenager posing with what appeared to be a firearm and a sparta-style machete, while making rude hand gestures. The post sparked concern from the local community, who called on authorities to take immediate action. Cherng Talay Police Station posted an update stating that Pol. Col. Ekkarat Plaiduang, the station’s superintendent, ordered an investigation led by Pol. Lt. Col. Anurak Klangnarong, deputy superintendent of investigations, along with Pol. Capt. Wachira Amarin and Pol. Sub-Lt. Chanasin Pratheep Na Thalang, supported by the local investigative unit. The suspect was identified as “Zaw”, a Myanmar national living in an unnumbered workers’ camp in the Ban Yaa area of Si Sunthon subdistrict, Thalang district. Police located and detained him at the camp, where he admitted to being the person in the photos, along with several Myanmar acquaintances whose exact addresses he did not know. Upon questioning, Zaw confessed that the weapons in the images belonged to him. Officers determined that the gun was an imitation air gun and the knives, two in total, had been purchased from a local market.
