  2. A fire broke out at 15.30 on September 29, in the candle storage facility of Wat Chaeng, located in Nai Mueang Subdistrict, Mueang District, Ubon Ratchathani Province. Fire trucks from Ubon Ratchathani City Municipality were dispatched to the scene to control the blaze. The fire engulfed the large storage facility, which housed intricately molded candles used for the Buddhist Lent Candle Festival. Firefighters worked quickly to extinguish the flames, taking about 60 minutes to bring the fire under control. The fire was prevented from spreading or damaging any of the near neighbouring buildings, but unfortunately, all the stored candles were completely destroyed, leaving only parts of the steel frames of the collapsed building structure According to a resident monk, prior to the fire, the temple had hired workers to dismantle the large molded candles to store them for next year’s candle festival competition. While workers were using an electric grinder to remove parts of the candle’s structure, sparks ignited the fire, causing it to spread rapidly. The intense heat melted the candles beyond recovery. Fortunately, no one was injured in the incident. However, the estimated damage to the building and candles is over 1 million baht. 5. Police were alerted at around 10.00 on September 29, to the discovery of a lifeless body found floating in an abandoned pond in Ban Thon Mai Phai, Moo 4, Klong Hoi Khong, Songkhla province. The scene, located in a remote thicket not far from the local village. Investigators from the Klong Hoi Khong Police Station, along with officers from the Songkhla Provincial Investigation Unit, forensic specialists, and rescue teams from the Mittraphap Samakkhi Foundation of Hat Yai, arrived to inspect the area. The deceased, identified as 15-year-old Kanawat, also known as "Fang," a M3 student at Wat Pho School, was found wearing his school uniform. Initial assessments suggest that Fang had been dead for approximately five days. His body bore signs of assault, including rope marks around his neck and bruises on his torso, suggesting he had been strangled and beaten. No evidence of a struggle was found at the scene, leading police to believe that the teenager may have been killed elsewhere and dumped at the pond. Family members reported that Fang had gone missing on the evening of Tuesday, September 24, along with his black Honda Wave motorcycle and his mobile phone. Desperate to find him, relatives had taken to social media to appeal for information. Tragically, early this morning, a local resident foraging for mushrooms discovered Fang’s body in the abandoned pond. Fang’s remains were taken to Songklanagarind Hospital for a more thorough autopsy to determine the exact cause of death. Speaking to police, Fang’s older sister, Ms. Fern, recalled that her brother disappeared after school on September 24. He had reportedly dropped off two friends at their homes and mentioned that he was going to take a ride near Ban Muang Khom, Kuan Lang sub-district. After that, no one heard from him again. Normally, Fang would drive his motorcycle to drop his mother off at work each morning and pick her up after school, but that day he failed to do so and vanished. Fang’s grandfathers, Ta Teng and Ta Toi, also revealed that they had tried to call him in the days following his disappearance. Initially, their calls connected, but they were immediately blocked each time. After two days, they could no longer reach him at all. His friends reported no conflicts or altercations in the days leading up to his disappearance. Police were investigating the possibility of robbery, as both Fang’s motorcycle and phone are missing. Another angle being explored is whether he may have had a personal conflict or encountered a dangerous situation that led to his tragic death. Officers after reviewing any CCTV footage from near the area and interviewing Fang’s friends, on the afternoon of September 29 were able to arrest one suspect involved in the murder. The suspect, 15-year-old Boonmee, a friend of the victim. CCTV footage from near a convenience store close to the crime scene captured an image on September 24 at 15:22, showing Boonmee riding a black Honda Wave motorcycle, which belonged to Nong Fang. After knocking him unconscious during a fight, Boonmee is reported to have rode the motorcycle to pick up his girlfriend before giving her a lift back. Boonmee then returned with his girlfriend to the crime scene to check if Nong Fang had regained consciousness. Upon arrival, they found he was still unconscious. Boonmee then used a rope he had brought with him to strangle Nong Fang to death, dragged him into the water and fled on the stolen motorcycle. Picture from responders. -- 2024-09-30
  6. A major road collapse occurred in Phayao Province on September 29, prompting urgent warnings for motorists traveling through the affected area. Residents described hearing a loud noise just before the ground gave way, and they rushed to stop vehicles from crossing the hazardous section. Witnesses report that traffic had been flowing steadily in the hours before the incident, with cars regularly using the route. It is believed that the cracks, which had already begun to appear between 08:00 and 09:00, worsened as vehicles continued to drive over the road, eventually causing the surface to give way. Footage from a car’s dashcam has surfaced, showing a vehicle narrowly escaping the road collapse. The video shows the car driving over the road moments before it collapsed. Long cracks had already formed along the surface before the road gave way. The collapse happened on Phahon Yothin Road, the Nakhon Sawan-Chiang Rai route, just six kilometers from Phayao University.. The area borders Ban Chon Daen in Ngao District, Lampang, and Ban Mae Ka Tha Kham, Mae Ka Subdistrict. The road sank to a depth of 10 metres and stretched about 100 meteres long. Residents immediately notified local authorities, including the Phayao Department of Highways, the Luecha Foundation, and Mae Ka Highway Police. The authorities quickly closed the collapsed section of the road and diverted traffic to a single opposite lane. Motorists are being urged to exercise extreme caution while traveling through this area, as repairs are expected to take several days. The collapse is believed to have been caused by heavy rains over the past two months, which saturated the soil and caused the road to give way. 18. A man recently shared a harrowing experience on TikTok, after being bitten by a snake during a nighttime hike in the mountains, sparking widespread debate online. The man, identified as TikTok user @arunsrisuwan512, posted a video describing his ordeal after being bitten by a venomous green pit viper while searching for fish in the Banthat mountain range, Phatthalung. The video, which he called his "final clip from the trip," shows him using traditional survival methods passed down through his family to address the snake bite. The man explained that the snake bit him on his foot, causing immediate swelling. In response, he tied a vine-like plant above the bite and applied herbal remedies to the area. He also took painkillers to alleviate joint and leg pain, with the goal of making it down the mountain and getting to a hospital. In the clip, the man describes his injury: “The snake bit me on the back of my foot. The inner sole hasn’t swollen yet, but the outer side has. I used an herbal vine to tie around my ankle, applied some green oil, and took painkillers to reduce the pain. I just need to walk home first, then I’ll head to the hospital.” He recounted that the incident occurred after he had finished setting up fishing traps and was preparing for the next activity when the snake struck. He was later treated at the hospital for seven days before being discharged to recover at home. Once the video went viral, many netizens voiced their concerns, with some warning against his use of a tight vine around the ankle, a traditional remedy for snake bites. Commenters advised that this method can worsen the injury, increasing the risk of severe tissue damage. Several users suggested immobilising the bitten area instead of tying it off to prevent further harm. One commenter shared a personal story: “Tying the area is outdated and dangerous knowledge. My younger sibling was once bitten by a cobra. What made it worse was the necrosis caused by tying the leg, leading to surgery to remove dead tissue and replace it with healthy tissue from the thigh. It was a painful experience, especially for a five-year-old child.” The man who posted the video is known to be a descendant of a family of traditional healers, specializing in snake bite treatments passed down through generations. His grandmother is the fourth-generation practitioner, and it appears that the fifth generation of this knowledge will be inherited by him. Picture taken from TikTok video below. -- 2024-09-29

  20. A 63-year-old woman, Khunlin Jokklad, urgently reported to police on September 28, that her 70-year-old sister, Amphon Jokklad, has been abducted from a local hospital in Pathum Thani, by a mysterious man. The incident occurred on the evening of September 27, prompting her to file a complaint at the Pratunam Chulalongkorn Police Station. According to Khunlin, she brought her sister to the Pathumthani Hospital on September 23 for treatment of food aspiration and paralysis, along with memory issues. On September 27, hospital staff informed her that Amphon was ready to be discharged. Due to her own struggles with depression and age-related limitations, Khunlin requested that her sister's three children come to take her home. However, when Khunlin visited the hospital the following morning with care packages for Amphon, she discovered that her sister had already been taken away by someone claiming to be her son. Alarmed, Khunlin contacted her sister’s relatives and learned that no one had come to pick her up. Upon reviewing the hospital's surveillance footage, it was revealed that a man, who did not resemble any family member, had taken Amphon in a taxi, raising concerns for her safety. The footage shows a man with dark skin and a shaved head lifting Amphon into a taxi before driving away. Khunlin expressed her disbelief that hospital staff would allow her sister to leave with someone who was not family, considering she had been the one to bring Amphon in for care. “I’m extremely worried. My sister is elderly and has multiple health issues. I urge the authorities to help bring her back,” Khunlin pleaded. In response, Pol. Lt. Col. Wichaya Phankham, head of the police station’s investigation unit, has initiated an inquiry and is coordinating with the hospital to review the footage and locate the taxi driver who picked up Amphon. They aim to trace the unidentified man and ensure the safe return of the elderly woman. Picture of sister talking to reporters. -- 2024-09-29

  25. Police Lieutenant Rewat Abdin, Deputy Inspector of Bang Nam Priao Police Station, responded to an incident on September 27, involving the death of a woman due to carbon monoxide poisoning inside a vehicle. The woman, identified as 38-year-old Ms. Phaknan Bamrungphuet from Prachinburi, was discovered unconscious in her Ford Ranger parked along a road near Wat Bang Sai in Chachoengsao. Despite efforts to resuscitate her, she passed away after being rushed to Bang Nam Priao Hospital. The scene revealed the woman’s pickup truck parked by the roadside with a charcoal stove found overturned beside it. People pulled her body from the vehicle and attempted CPR before taking her to the hospital. Her safety shoes were also found nearby. A local resident, Mr. Kit Phokin, 46, a former village headman, was the first to attempt CPR. He stated that he had noticed the truck parked with its window rolled down earlier in the afternoon and assumed the driver was making a phone call. When he returned in the evening, the vehicle was still there. A local resident alerted him that someone was unconscious in the car. He immediately assisted in pulling Ms. Phaknan from the vehicle but noted that she showed no signs of life. According to initial police investigations, Ms. Phaknan had left Prachinburi earlier that day and contacted her relatives before sharing her location. By the time they arrived, however, it was too late. Investigators suspect that her death was linked to a dispute with her partner, though other potential factors, such as financial or health issues, have not been ruled out. Authorities will conduct further inquiries with her family to clarify the circumstances surrounding her tragic death.
