Picture from responders. An 82-year-old man was found dead in his home garage after reportedly taking his own life due to health-related stress. Authorities believe the man's declining physical condition led to the tragic incident. On December 13, officers from Mueang Nakhon Si Thammarat Police Station, accompanied by forensic doctors and rescue personnel, responded to a report of a suicide at a residence in the Pho Sadet Subdistrict. Upon arrival at the single- story home, situated in a fruit orchard, they discovered the deceased, identified as Mr. Aied, seated face-down near the back garage. Nearby, authorities found the deceased's walking frame, glasses, and shoes. A nylon rope was still tied to a roof beam in the garage. A preliminary autopsy revealed bruising on the neck but no signs of foul play. The death was estimated to have occurred within the previous five hours. Relatives informed investigators that Mr. Aied had been in good health and active in managing the family orchard until recently. He had begun experiencing severe breathing difficulties, fatigue, and weakness, necessitating the use of a four-legged walking frame, to move around. On the morning of the incident, his children left for work as usual, while his wife, who is also in poor health, remained indoors. A relative visiting the house later discovered Mr. Aied's body in the garage. Police suspect that the elderly man, distressed by his health struggles, decided to end his life. He reportedly tied a nylon rope to a 2-meter bamboo pole, secured it to a garage beam, and attempted to hang himself. However, investigators believe the rope may have loosened, causing him to fall and succumb to asphyxiation. Relatives did not suspect foul play and have accepted the cause of death. After the examination, the body was released to the family for funeral rites. If you or anyone you know is in emotional distress, please contact the Samaritans of Thailand 24-hour hotline: 02 713 6791 (English), 02 713 6793 (Thai) or the Thai Mental Health Hotline at 1323 (Thai). Picture courtesy of Matichon Authorities in Thailand have detained a Myanmar fishing vessel and its six crew members for illegally entering Thai waters, seizing 40 tons of salted krill as part of the operation. The 3rd Naval Area Command of the National Maritime Security Coordination Center (NMSC Region 3) reported that on December 13, at 21.00, a coordinated operation was led by Vice Admiral Suwat Donsakoon, Commander of the 3rd Naval Area Command and Director of NMSC Region 3. The operation involved multiple agencies, including the Ranong Maritime Security Coordination Center (NMSC Ranong), the Ranong Provincial Water Police, and the Department of Fisheries’ Ranong checkpoint, among others. The mission, prompted by intelligence from the 2nd Coastal Guard Regiment, targeted suspected illegal transfers of fishery products near Ranong’s port. Officials intercepted the Myanmar vessel, Pyi Phyo Hlaing 18, a 50-ton fishing vessel, as it was unloading its cargo at Wai Thong Port in Pak Nam Subdistrict, Muang District, Ranong Province. Upon inspection, the vessel was found to be carrying 40,000 kilograms of salted krill, packed in 2,000 bags weighing 20 kilograms each. The crew, all Myanmar nationals, failed to produce legal documentation for importing fishery products via the Fisheries Single Window (FSW) system, as required by Thai law. Authorities charged the vessel and crew with violating the 2015 Fisheries Act, amended in 2017. Under Section 92 of the Act, importing fishery products into the kingdom without official authorisation is prohibited. Violators face penalties under Section 158, including fines amounting to five times the value of the seized products. The crew was also charged with illegally importing marine products into Thailand without permits. They were handed over to investigators at Pak Nam Police Station in Ranong Province for further legal proceedings. The seizure underscores Thailand’s commitment to combating illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing activities in its waters and protecting its maritime resources. -- 2024-12-15

Picture courtesy of Khaosod Police from the Economic Crime Suppression Division (ECS) and officials from the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC) have raided a store in a prominent shopping mall in Prawet District, Bangkok, seizing illegal IPTV boxes and detaining the shop owner for legal action. On December 14, Pol. Maj. Gen. Phutthidech Boonkraphue, Commander of the ECS Division, directed Pol. Lt. Col. Thanakhun Phromkhun, Deputy Inspector of Division 1, ECS, to lead a team of officers and NBTC officials to execute a search warrant issued by the Criminal Court. The raid targeted a shop suspected of selling unauthorised IPTV boxes, which enable illegal streaming of television channels over the internet. During the search, officers seized 10 IPTV boxes, which had been modified to illegally access subscription-only TV channels, including those offered by True Visions Group, without paying monthly fees. The investigation was initiated after True Visions Group filed a complaint with Division 1 of the ECS. The company alleged that the shop was selling IPTV boxes capable of bypassing copyright protections to access their content without authorisation. Based on this evidence, authorities secured a court warrant to inspect the premises. The shop owner, identified as Mr. Atsawin was taken into custody and handed over to investigators at Prawet Police Station. He faces charges of “copyright infringement for commercial purposes” and “selling unauthorised subscription TV signal converters.” The seized equipment and evidence will be used to prosecute the case in accordance with the law. Authorities emphasised their commitment to cracking down on intellectual property violations and protecting licensed broadcasting services. -- 2024-12-15

Picture from responders Pol. Capt. Anurak Mungchaiyaphum, an investigator at Wang Nam Khiao Police Station, was informed at approximately 23.30 on December 13, of a fatal fall in a cassava and corn farm located in Ban Khok Santisuk, Village No. 9, Wang Mi Subdistrict, Wang Nam Khiao District, Nakhon Ratchasima. The accident site, about two kilometres from the main road and accessible only through rough terrain, delayed emergency responders. Upon arrival, authorities found the lifeless body of a man lying at the base of a tree. The victim, identified as Mr. Parinya 38, a resident of Sung Noen District in Nakhon Ratchasima, showed no signs of foul play. Initial assessments suggested severe internal injuries resulting in his death. Nearby, investigators discovered a makeshift ladder made of bamboo branches leaning against a large tree, presumably used by the victim to climb up. According to a friend who reported the incident, Mr. Parinya had been hired to work on the farm and had been guarding the area at night to prevent wild gaurs from destroying the crops. On the night of the accident, he climbed the tree to monitor the field for potential wildlife intrusions. It is believed he slipped and fell, losing consciousness on impact. The friend immediately contacted the victim’s relatives, the farm owner, and local authorities. Police speculate that Mr. Parinya climbed the tall, straight tree in the dark to keep watch for gaurs or other wild animals. Due to the tree’s height and lack of branches for support, he likely lost his footing and fell to the ground, sustaining fatal injuries. Rescue workers from Hook 31 Thai Samakkhi transported the victim’s body to Wang Nam Khiao Hospital for an autopsy to confirm the cause of death. Authorities plan to notify the victim’s family and continue interviewing witnesses and others involved as part of the legal investigation. -- 2024-12-15 -
Picture courtesy of Matichon. Authorities have arrested a man known as “Koh Thung Khru” following a three-month manhunt. The suspect, identified as Mr. Supradit 32, was charged with attempted murder after a high-speed car chase in which he allegedly rammed a pickup truck into a motorcycle, leaving a 1-year-old boy critically injured. The incident occurred on August 25, 2024, in the Tha Kham area of Bangkok. Under the directives of Police Chief General Kittirat Phanphet, Deputy Police Chief General Thana Chuwong, and Acting Assistant Police Chief General Somprasong Yenthaum, officers pursued the case after public outcry on social media. Police Major General Theeradet Thamsuthi, head of the Metropolitan Police Bureau’s investigation division, led the operation to locate and apprehend the suspect. The arrest was made on December 13, at a temple in the Thung Khru district of Bangkok, where the suspect was hiding at his mother’s house. Mr. Supradit was detained under a warrant issued by the Thonburi Criminal Court on October 10, 2024, for attempted murder. The case unfolded when the crash victim, riding a motorcycle with his 1-year-old son seated in a child seat, was approached by a distressed man near Wat Hua Krabue in the Tha Kham area. The man, appearing injured, pleaded for help, claiming he had been assaulted. The motorcyclist agreed to give him a ride to seek medical attention. As they left the temple grounds, a group of men armed with baseball bats began chasing them. Shortly after, a pickup truck appeared, driven by the suspect, and pursued the motorcycle. Despite attempts to evade the truck, the motorcycle was struck, causing the rider and the injured man to sustain minor injuries. Tragically, the 1-year-old child suffered severe injuries, including deep cuts to his forehead and head, a torn lip, and multiple abrasions. The father rushed his son to the hospital before filing a complaint with the Tha Kham Police Station. Police launched an investigation, which resulted in an arrest warrant for Mr. Supradit, the driver of the pickup truck. During interrogation, Mr. Supradit admitted to the attack, citing a personal vendetta against one of the victims stemming from a prior altercation. He claimed he was unaware that a child was on the motorcycle at the time of the collision. Fearing retaliation, he went into hiding at his mother’s house near Wat Thung Khru. Police investigations revealed Mr. Supradit’s extensive criminal record, including: 1. 2015 – Arrested for possession of narcotics with intent to distribute (Ratchaburana Police Station). 2. 2016 – Arrested for drug use (Thung Khru Police Station). 3. 2018 – Arrested for narcotics distribution (Thung Khru Police Station). 4. 2024 – Arrest warrant issued for attempted murder (Tha Kham Police Station). The suspect expressed remorse for his actions and apologised to those affected. Police have transferred him to the Kham Police Station for further legal proceedings. Authorities emphasise their commitment to bringing justice to the victims and ensuring public safety. The 1-year-old victim continues to recover from his injuries, and police have vowed to pursue all individuals involved in the attack. -- 2024-12-15

Picture from responders. During the annual “Amazing Umphang” fair in Tak province a grenade exploded near the main stage, turning a night of celebration into chaos. The incident occurred around 23:30 on December 13, as locals and visitors gathered to enjoy a traditional dance performance at the event’s dance stage. The explosion left three people dead and 39 others injured, including four critically wounded. Emergency responders rushed to the scene to provide life-saving assistance, transporting the injured to Umphang Hospital, which quickly became overwhelmed with patients. According to authorities, the grenade was thrown by an unidentified assailant toward the crowded stage area. Witnesses described scenes of panic as attendees scrambled to flee, with dust and debris clouding the air. A crater from the explosion was found near the stage, surrounded by blood and personal belongings left behind in the chaos. Some victims required urgent surgery, and one critically injured person was transferred to Mae Sot Hospital for specialised care. Those with minor injuries were treated and released. The explosion disrupted the festivities of the annual charity fair, known as a highlight of the community calendar, which was being held between December 8 and 14. The event had drawn large crowds to its various attractions, including the retro dance stage, which was a focal point of the night. Initial investigations revealed that the explosive used was likely a grenade designed for lethal impact. The motive and identity of the assailant remain unknown, and authorities have yet to determine whether the attack was a targeted act or a random act of violence. Police have sealed off the area and are working with forensic teams to collect evidence. Local residents expressed shock and sorrow over the tragic incident, which has shaken the usually peaceful community of Umphang. Authorities have vowed to bring the perpetrators to justice and restore a sense of security in the area. “This was supposed to be a joyful occasion celebrating our local culture and traditions,” a local official said. “Instead, it has turned into a heartbreaking tragedy for our community. We will do everything in our power to support the victims and their families.” -- 2024-12-14

Picture from responders. A Chinese tourist has lost her life after drowning at the popular Sai Kaew Beach on Koh Samet Island. The incident occurred around noon on December 13, prompting an immediate response from local authorities. Police Lieutenant Colonel Kittichai Wongpia of the Phay Police Station was notified of the drowning and quickly coordinated with the Khao Laem Ya-Koh Samet National Park staff, Rayong Hospital, and the Sawang Phrakulsang Rescue Team to investigate the scene. Upon arrival, authorities found a crowd of onlookers on the beach. They discovered a woman unconscious on the shore and rushed to perform CPR. Unfortunately, despite their efforts, the woman could not be revived. The victim, later identified as Mrs. Han Ying, a 59-year-old Chinese national, was then transferred by boat to the Ban Phe pier before being sent to Rayong Hospital for an autopsy. According to Ms. Wasana, the tour guide accompanying the group, the tourists, all from China, were staying in Pattaya and had planned a day trip to Koh Samet. The group was enjoying a day at Sai Kaew Beach, where the waters were calm and shallow. Mrs. Han, accompanied by her husband and friends, had gone into the water, unaware that tragedy would strike. There were no strong waves or unusual conditions, and it was surprising that Mrs. Han would have drowned. Her husband, in particular, was shocked by the unexpected turn of events. Initial investigations suggest that the victim may have fainted or experienced a medical issue before being swept under. Authorities are in the process of notifying the Chinese Embassy for further assistance. -- 2024-12-14

Picture and video from responders. The Thai-Myanmar Border Coordination Center (TBC Thailand) was notified on December 13, by the Myanmar-Thai Border Coordination Center (TBC Koh Sone, Myanmar) of a fire aboard a large cargo vessel on the Kyaung River, near the town of Koh Sone, Myanmar. The ship was carrying construction materials such as paints and other goods, and the blaze quickly intensified. In response, Myanmar’s local authorities in Koh Sone deployed maritime firefighting equipment to combat the fire. However, despite their efforts, the situation worsened, prompting a request for assistance from Thai authorities. TBC Thailand promptly coordinated with various Thai agencies, including the Regional Maritime Office 5 in Ranong, the Teng Kyi Foundation, and other volunteer organisations with available firefighting equipment. They quickly mobilised the necessary personnel and tools, which were transported by boat to assist Myanmar authorities. Despite the swift response, the fire continued to spread, fueled by the highly flammable cargo aboard the ship. The blaze ultimately consumed most of the vessel, and authorities were unable to control the fire. Efforts focused on safely evacuating the crew to secure areas, with the fire left to burn out on its own while monitoring. The cargo aboard the vessel, which included a significant amount of valuable goods, has suffered severe damage, though the exact financial loss has not yet been determined. Myanmar authorities are conducting an investigation into the cause of the fire. Myanmar expressed deep gratitude to Thai authorities, both governmental and private, for their prompt assistance during this challenging incident, acknowledging the strong support from the Thai people in this time of need. -- 2024-12-14 ScreenRecording_12-13-2024 18-35-24_1.mp4
