Picture and video from responders. A fierce fire has consumed three traditional Thai wooden houses in Nong Khai, with authorities suspecting the cause to be an electrical short circuit. The blaze was reported at 08:30 on September 27, by Police Lieutenant Jakrapong Tongtaem of the Nong Khai Provincial Police Station. The fire occurred at a residence located behind Jang Sawang Market in Nong Kom Ko subdistrict, Nong Khai City. Authorities, including Police Colonel Yuttana Ngamchat and firefighters from the local subdistrict and municipal fire departments, were quickly dispatched to the scene. The fire engulfed a traditional Thai-style wooden house, owned by Mr. Thanet (surname withheld), located at No. 279, Village 8, Nong Kom Ko. At the time of the incident, only his brother, Mr. Thanakorn (surname withheld), was at home. The property consisted of three adjacent Thai-style wooden houses, and the flames spread rapidly, consuming all three homes. Firefighters worked for about an hour to contain the blaze and prevent it from spreading to neighbouring properties. According to reports, Mr. Thanakorn was resting when the fire started. Local residents spotted smoke billowing from the house and shouted warnings. Mr. Thanakorn rushed out and attempted to extinguish the flames with water, but his efforts were in vain. He then called for help. Initial investigations suggest that the fire may have been caused by a short circuit, potentially due to rainwater seeping into an outdoor electrical socket. The exact extent of the damage has yet to be assessed, and authorities will conduct a more thorough investigation to determine the precise cause of the fire. Officials are warning the public to take extra precautions with electrical outlets, particularly ensuring they do not get wet in the rain, as this could lead to similar dangerous incidents. -- 2024-09-28 RPReplay_Final1727421046.mp4

The incident occurred in Na Pho Subdistrict, Sawi District, Chumphon, while the victim was sleeping beside his wife and child. The assailant fled the scene on a motorcycle, and police are now urgently pursuing the suspect. At around 03:15 on September 27, Police Lieutenant Kriangchai Chumkaew of the Sawi Police Station received a report of the violent attack. He arrived at the scene alongside Police Colonel Wisanu Surawadee and an investigative team. The victim, identified as Mr. Wanchai (surname withheld), 30, was found critically injured with multiple stab wounds to his chest and underarm. He was rushed to Sawi Hospital but succumbed to his injuries shortly after. According to the police investigation, the motive appears to be rooted in a love triangle. Mr. Wanchai had been living with Ms. Waraporn (surname withheld), his wife and the mother of their child. After separating, Ms. Waraporn entered into a relationship with Mr. Noppadon (surname withheld), 30, the suspect. However, a week before the attack, Ms. Waraporn reconciled with Mr. Wanchai, and the couple had resumed living together. On the night of the attack, Mr. Wanchai was asleep with Ms. Waraporn and their child when Mr. Noppadon arrived at the house on a black and purple Yamaha motorcycle. Using a knife, the suspect cut the string securing the front door, which had no lock, and entered the bedroom. He then stabbed Mr. Wanchai multiple times, forcing the victim to flee the house, but his injuries proved fatal. Witnesses, including Ms. Waraporn and her brother Mr. Jirasak (surname withheld), who was staying in the house, confirmed the identity of the attacker. An autopsy revealed four stab wounds to Mr. Wanchai’s chest and underarm area. Mr. Wanchai was a well-known drummer for a popular local band, performing at various events in Chumphon and surrounding provinces. His death has left his friends and family devastated, with many describing him as a kind and well-loved individual. Police Colonel Wisanu stated that the case is not complex, and eyewitnesses have confirmed the identity of the suspect and expect to apprehend him soon. -- 2024-09-27

Picture from responders A blast rocked an oxygen filling plant in Udon Thani on the morning of September 27, leaving three workers injured, one of whom is in critical condition with a severed arm. At 09:35, Udon Thani City Police and rescue teams were alerted to a powerful blast at an oxygen filling plant located at 123 Moo 8, Ban Nong Mun Thao, Phon Sung Subdistrict, Mueang District, Udon Thani. The plant, situated along Mittraphap Road (Highway 2) heading into Udon Thani, was severely damaged by the blast, which sent debris flying and caused panic among the workers. Rescue teams quickly arrived at the scene and found three injured individuals. The most seriously injured was identified as 39-year-old Wasin Matphonthong, an oxygen filler, who was found unconscious with his right arm severed. He was rushed to the hospital in critical condition. Another worker, Somjit Jaiyen, 50, suffered injuries from metal debris that struck his left hand and shoulder. The third injured worker has not yet been identified. The blast caused significant damage to the plant’s structure, with the roof punctured and windows and doors shattered. Several oxygen cylinders were also found toppled and scattered inside the plant. It was found that one of the cylinders had exploded, leading authorities to evacuate the area to prevent further danger. Atthiwat Woraphan, a highway rescue volunteer, reported that the team responded immediately upon receiving the alert. He confirmed that Wasin’s condition was critical and that he had been rushed to the hospital as quickly as possible. The other two workers sustained minor injuries. Krissada Sophakul, 31, an oxygen filler at the plant, recounted the terrifying moment of the explosion. “We were all working when we suddenly heard the blast. Wasin was working alone on the upper floor. Everyone fled immediately. Since the plant opened, we’ve never experienced anything like this, it was truly shocking,” he said. Authorities are now waiting for forensic experts to investigate the cause of the blast and have secured the area to prevent any further incidents involving the remaining oxygen tanks. Police and investigators will continue to examine the scene to determine the exact cause of this event. Possible causes are mishandling of the cylinder, such as dropping it or something piecing it, or the oxygen was contaminated by oil/grease, causing a violent oxidation exothermic reaction. -- 2024-09-27

Picture from the scene. In the early hours of September 27, Chonburi police responded to a reported robbery on the secluded Chagnok Reservoir Road, Moo 4, Huai Yai Subdistrict, Bang Lamung District. At 01:35, Police Captain Prakarsit Paladet of the Huai Yai Police Station received the call and quickly dispatched patrol officers and investigators to the scene. The victim, a 43-year-old woman identified as Ms. X (alias), was found distressed and seeking help from nearby residents. She recounted that she had been riding her motorcycle with a man, approximately 35 to 40 years old, tall and heavyset. According to her, the man had lured her with a promise of a trip, and they were riding together on her Honda Wave motorcycle, license plate from Nakhon Ratchasima, after departing from Pattaya Beach. As they reached a desolate stretch of road, Ms. X became suspicious. When the motorcycle slowed down, she leaped off, only for the man to threaten her with a knife and snatch her bag. The bag contained approximately 1,000 baht in cash, a Redmi smartphone, her ID card, and an ATM card. The suspect then fled on her motorcycle down the deserted road. Ms. X waved down a local resident for help, who called the police. Despite the detailed account, authorities became skeptical when Ms. X hesitated to come to the station for further questioning. Officers noted that the victim had a photo of the suspect, raising the possibility that they might have known each other. Police are now awaiting further information from Ms. X. If the crime is confirmed, the investigative team will search for additional evidence to track down the perpetrator and bring him to justice. -- 2024-09-27

Picture of the scene. A man was found dead after being electrocuted while allegedly attempting to steal electrical wiring late at night. The body of Mr. Pratuang, 57, was discovered at a water development project site in Ban Kok Kaew, Lopburi. Authorities were alerted to the incident after family members who were worried that he was not home on the morning of September 26, had gone searching for him. Police and medical personnel from Koke Samrong Hospital, along with local rescue volunteers, arrived at the scene. They found Mr. Pratuang lying face-up in a water pit near a water tank, still clutching wire cutters in his left hand. Nearby, several sections of cut electrical wire were found, and the surrounding area showed clear signs of him tampering with power cables. Officials promptly had the electricity cut off for safety before they began gathering evidence. Initial investigations revealed no signs of foul play, and it was determined that Mr. Pratuang likely died from electrocution approximately 7 to 8 hours prior to his discovery. Relatives of the deceased told investigators that Mr. Pratuang, a school bus driver, was last seen awake around midnight. They assumed he had gone out to catch fish or crabs for food, as he often did. When he did not return home by morning, they set out to search for him, only to find his lifeless body. Shocked by the circumstances, the family expressed disbelief that he would resort to stealing electrical wires. Police have sent the body for further autopsy and will continue to investigate the case, questioning family members to establish the full details of the incident. -- 2024-09-27

At weekends, many people visit the reservoir and drive their cars onto the sandbanks to enjoy a dip in the water. Elsewhere, water levels in the Lam Phra Phloeng, Nam Mun Bon and Nam Bon Lang reservoirs are described as “moderate”. 23 other reservoirs contain a total of 157.30 million cubic metres of water, which is described as “low”. The Lower North-eastern Meteorological Centre forecasts that there is currently a possibility of moderate rainfall in Pak Chong, Wang Nam Khiao, Khon Bujri, Soeng Sang, Dan Khun Thot and Si Khio, while the 26 other districts will see less rainfall. The Royal Irrigation Department’s office in the province has suspended supply of water from all the reservoirs for agricultural purposes, to conserve the water for consumption. Picture courtesy of Khaosod. A man who withdrew the government hand out, chose to celebrate by getting drunk and fell into a canal. He was rescued after a search, with relatives, who had prepared for the worst left stunned by his survival. At around 20:30 on September 26, Udon Thani city police and rescue teams received a report of a man falling into an irrigation canal in the Suntorn Satchabun area in Ban Thon, Ban Lueam Subdistrict, Mueang District, Udon Thani Province. The man had not been found when the authorities arrived at the scene. Upon arrival, officials discovered a white-and-black Honda Wave motorcycle, license plate from Nong Bua Lamphu, parked by the canal. They also found the missing man’s shirt, a water bottle, and half a bottle of liquor near the canal bank. Soon after, Mr. Wittawat, 45, a municipal garbage collector from Udon Thani, approached the officers and identified the missing man as his 49-year-old brother, Mr. Thongrit, also known as "Pee Kiew," from Kud Din Ji village in Nong Bua Lamphu Province. Mr. Wittawat explained that his brother had called earlier, saying he was coming to Udon Thani to look for work. After withdrawing 5,000 baht of the 10,000 baht he had, Mr. Thongrit set off on his motorcycle. CCTV footage from the area showed Mr. Thongrit sitting beside the canal next to his motorcycle before stumbling and falling into the water, apparently while drunk and trying to relieve himself. He then disappeared into the canal, which led officials to believe he had been swept away by the current. Divers began searching the canal, but Mr. Thongrit's body was not found, leading to fears that he had drowned. For over an hour, villagers, divers, and officials searched the canal, but their efforts seemed in vain. Then, miraculously, a local resident reported seeing Mr. Thongrit walking out of the canal about 2 kilometres from the accident site, wearing only his underwear. The searchers rushed to help him and found that Mr. Thongrit appeared confused by the crowd of villagers and rescuers, exclaiming, “What’s everyone doing here? I’m not dead. I’m just embarrassed and cold.” The rescuers quickly covered him with a towel. Mr. Thongrit explained that after withdrawing his money, he had bought a bottle of liquor to celebrate with the locals. After drinking, he tried to relieve himself near the canal but accidentally fell in, his intoxication causing him to be swept away by the current. Eventually regaining full consciousness, he managed to climb out of the canal on his own. When asked how he managed to survive, Mr. Thongrit replied that he had held tightly to 300 baht in cash while thinking of his late father. He expressed joy at his survival, smiling as his younger brother embraced him. Relatives, His brother jokingly suggested that Mr. Thongrit should quit drinking to avoid future disasters. -- 2024-09-27

Picture from responders. In an incident on the morning of September 26, two female bank employees lost their lives when a bus collided with and ran over their motorcycle near Prachanukul Intersection in Bangkok. Witnesses reported hearing a loud sound, similar to a vehicle running over something at the time of the accident. At approximately 08:45 Pol. Lt. Col. Chattharapit Jan-urai, Deputy Inspector of Prachachuen Police Station, received a report of a fatal collision involving a bus and a motorcycle at Prachanukul Intersection on Ratchadaphisek Road, Wong Sawang Subdistrict, Bang Sue District. He immediately proceeded to the scene with a medical examiner from Police General Hospital and volunteers from the Poh Teck Tung Foundation. Upon arrival, authorities found a Honda Click motorcycle, orange in color, with Bangkok license plates, lying in the middle of the right-most lane of Ratchadaphisek Road. Tragically, the two victims were discovered lifeless at the scene. The victims were identified as Ms. Pimnipa (last name withheld), 34, who was found lying on top of Ms. Manatsanan (last name withheld), 31, the motorcycle's driver. A short distance from the motorcycle, about 5 metres away, an orange air-conditioned bus was parked in the right-most lane. The bus, registered in Bangkok, had visible damage on its right bumper. The bus driver, Mr. Jamnong (last name withheld), 55, remained at the scene and was cooperating with police investigators. According to preliminary investigations, Ms. Manatsanan had been driving the motorcycle with Ms. Pimnipa as her passenger. They were en route to work at a bank branch in Wong Sawang. While making a U-turn under the Prachanukul overpass, the motorcycle was struck from behind by Bus No. 49, which was in the right lane. The impact caused the motorcycle to fall, and both women were tragically run over by the bus. Pol. Lt. Col. Chattharapit reported that Mr. Jamnong stated during questioning that as he was driving in the right lane of Ratchadaphisek Road, heading towards Prachanukul Intersection and preparing to turn right onto Prachachuen Road, he suddenly heard a loud noise near the front right wheel. Upon stopping the bus to investigate, he discovered that the bus had collided with the motorcycle, resulting in the fatalities. Authorities are continuing to interview the driver and review footage from the bus’s front-facing camera and surrounding CCTV to determine the exact cause of the accident. The bodies of the victims have been sent to the Police General Hospital’s forensic unit. Statement from Bangkok Mass Transit Authority, expressing their condolences and apologies to the families of the deceased is below. -- 2024-09-27
