  1. Picture from responders. A dramatic fire broke out at an LPG filling plant in Nakhon Phanom, destroying over 100 gas cylinders and sending residents fleeing in panic. Firefighters battled for over an hour to contain the blaze, which erupted dangerously close to a gas station. The incident occurred in the early hours of 21 February at a privately owned LPG bottling facility in Ban Phon Paeng, Phum Kae subdistrict, Na Kae district. The plant, located on the That Phanom–Na Kae highway, features an LPG station at the front and a storage area for gas cylinders at the rear. Emergency services rushed to the scene after reports of a fire engulfing a pickup truck and a six-wheeled gas transport truck, both loaded with LPG cylinders. The fire rapidly spread, consuming the vehicles just 20 metres from the bottling plant and in close proximity to a public LPG station. Mr Yongchai Rakphol, the President of Phum Kae Subdistrict Administrative Organisation (SAO), coordinated with emergency responders from neighbouring municipalities. Firefighters deployed multiple trucks, working for more than an hour to extinguish the flames. Fortunately, no casualties were reported. However, two vehicles and over 100 gas cylinders were destroyed. Authorities from Na Kae Police Station have launched an investigation in collaboration with forensic experts. Preliminary findings suggest the fire first originated at the pickup truck, which was reported to be in poor condition, but is unclear if the fire was from the pickup truck itself or a leak from the cylinders it was carrying. Following the incident, local authorities have pledged to implement stricter safety measures to prevent similar occurrences. Mr Yongchai confirmed that swift action by emergency services prevented the fire from spreading to the nearby gas station. -- 2025-02-22

  4. Pictures from responders A courageous bystander was swept away, after jumping into a fast-flowing canal to rescue victims of a road crash in Saraburi. The incident occurred near the Chao Pho Muen Ram Bridge in Nong Khae District, where a saloon car and a pickup truck collided and plunged into the Raphiphat Canal. Emergency services, including police from Nong Khae Police Station, rescue teams from Sawang Rattanatrai Thammasathan Saraburi, the Ruamkatanyu Foundation, and the Poh Teck Tung Foundation, were alerted to the accident at approximately 17:25 on 20 February. Eyewitnesses reported that the crash involved a lime-green Mitsubishi Mirage and a silver Toyota Vigo pickup truck, both plunging into the canal and were swept away by the canal’s strong currents. As the vehicles floated downstream, a local man, identified as Mr. Natthaphon Samtia, 38, jumped into the water in an attempt to rescue the occupants. According to Ms. Ice, the driver of the saloon car, she struggled to open the car door after it entered the water. Mr. Natthaphon reached her and helped pull her out before asking if she could swim. When she said no, he guided her to a clump of grass at the water’s edge to hold onto before diving back into the canal to assist the driver of the pickup truck. However, due to the strong current and the sheer effort required for the rescue, Mr. Natthaphon appeared to become exhausted and was swept away, disappearing beneath the water. Rescue workers arrived and managed to retrieve the pickup truck driver and transported him to Nong Khae Hospital for medical attention. However, the vehicle itself was lost to the water. Search teams, including divers and a flat-bottomed boat, were immediately deployed to locate Mr. Natthaphon, but efforts have been hampered by the powerful current. Mr. Natthaphon’s mother, Mrs. Wanna 60, described her son as someone who had always been willing to help others, whether he knew them or not. She also revealed that he had not been in good health recently. Mr. Phadungkiat, an administrator of the Nong Khae Mee Dee Facebook page, was among the first to arrive at the scene after hearing reports of the crash. He described how the Mitsubishi Mirage had been descending the bridge when it was struck by the Toyota Vigo, causing both vehicles to lose control and plunge into the canal. Another rescuer, Mr. Anucha Ditbanjong, 23, described how he jumped into the canal with two others, carrying a rock to break the pickup truck’s window and free the driver. He managed to pull the pickup truck driver to safety. Authorities will continue to search for Mr. Natthaphon, until the body is found. -- 2025-02-21

  6. Pictures from responders. A Phuket-Phatthalung bus driver lost control and rolled on its side, at the Khao Po Curve in Phang Nga, injuring multiple passengers, including a critically injured three-year-old child. At approximately 18:00 on 20th February, officers from Takua Thung Police Station received a report of a public transport vehicle crash, resulting in multiple injuries. Emergency responders, including rescue teams from Wat Kao Charoentham, Phu Nga EMS, and the Phang Nga Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Unit, were dispatched to the scene. The crash occurred on Phetkasem Road in Moo 5, Krasom Subdistrict, Takua Thung District, Phang Nga Province. Upon arrival, responders found a pink Phuket-Phatthalung bus, registered in Trang, lying on its side. The front windscreen was shattered, and skid marks indicated the vehicle had lost control, colliding with a roadside tree stump before rolling onto its side. The rear of the bus had also struck a power pole. A total of 11 people were injured, with a three-year-old boy suffering severe injuries. He was immediately transported to Phang Nga Hospital for emergency treatment. Preliminary investigations revealed that the bus had departed from Phuket, heading towards Phatthalung. At the time of the crash, rain had made the road surface slippery. Authorities suspect that the combination of wet conditions and excessive speed caused the driver to lose control, leading to the vehicle skidding off the road. Police have launched an investigation, gathering evidence and interviewing both the driver and passengers to determine the exact cause of the crash and any legal implications. -- 2025-02-21 Video courtesy of Phuketinsta. -4880382247977712059.mp4

  8. Picture from responders. Three construction workers suffered severe electrical burns after a power line was struck by par of a metal construction frame during renovation work. Two workers are in a critical condition. On 20th February, Police Lieutenant Pojanat Ketklao of Nong Chang Police Station, Uthai Thani, received a report of an electric shock incident at a building under renovation on Soi Saeng Chan, Nong Chang Subdistrict, Nong Chang District. Emergency responders were dispatched to the scene. The incident occurred at a two-storey commercial building undergoing extensive renovations. Workers were installing a steel framework for the roof when a metal beam accidentally made contact with an overhead power line. The electric current surged through the metal structure, shocking three workers. Emergency rescue teams from the Uthai Thani Rescue Unit (Nong Chang division) isolated the electrical supply, then climbed onto the roof to assist the injured workers before transporting them to Nong Chang Hospital. Two of the victims, both Myanmar nationals, sustained severe burns, one suffering full-body burns, while the second had serious burns on his left arm from his hand to his elbow. The third victim, a Thai national, remained conscious and was able to communicate. The two most severely injured workers were later transferred to Uthai Thani Hospital for further treatment. Investigators found that the metal framework for the roof had been installed dangerously close to the power lines. While attempting to manoeuvre a steel beam into place, workers inadvertently touched the power line, triggering the electrical discharge. The shock not only injured the workers but also caused the metal beam to fall into an adjacent house. An investigation into the incident is ongoing. -- 2025-02-21

  10. Picture from responders. A man was shot dead by his neighbour following a dispute over loud noises from plumbing work in Nakhon Pathom province on 20 February. At approximately 12:30, police received reports of a shooting at a residence in the Huam Kret subdistrict of Sam Phran district. Officers and rescue personnel arrived to find the body of 47-year-old Montara lying in a pool of blood, having sustained gunshot wounds to the left arm and head. About 50 metres from the scene, police located a .38 calibre homemade firearm discarded on the roadside. The suspect, identified as 48-year-old Vithun, was also a neighbour of the victim. According to Police Colonel Paitoon Paesinuan, prior to the shooting, Montara was performing plumbing repairs outside his home, which created significant noise. This seemingly provoked Vithun, who lived nearby, leading to a heated argument between the two men. During the confrontation, Vithun fired one shot at Montara before walking around the house and returning to fire a second shot, fatally wounding him. In a tragic turn of events, Vithun then used the same weapon to shoot himself in the chest, resulting in serious injuries. He was subsequently transported to the hospital for emergency treatment. An eyewitness, known as Pom, recounted hearing the argument and gunshots. He emerged from his house to find Vithun walking around with the firearm and heard Montara calling for help, stating, “Help! I’ve been shot.” Pom immediately ran to fetch his brother to help and returned to find Montara had already succumbed to his injuries, prompting him to contact the police. Authorities are continuing their investigation into the incident. -- 2025-02-21

She is accused of working with a Malaysian syndicate that defrauded investors through a fake stock trading app, causing losses of 800 million baht. Police Major General Thatphoom Jaruprach, head of the Economic Crime Suppression Division, ordered the arrest of 35-year-old Nitcharata under a warrant issued by the Criminal Court on 25 April 2024. She faces multiple charges, including fraud, computer-related deception, and involvement in a transnational criminal organisation. Authorities had previously arrested several Malaysian nationals involved in the scam, which lured victims into investing in stocks via a fraudulent online platform. Investigators later discovered that a network of Thai women, many of whom had worked in entertainment venues in Kuala Lumpur, played a key role in the scheme. They allegedly set up bank accounts and digital asset wallets to receive and convert fraudulent proceeds into cryptocurrency before transferring them to the gang’s leaders. Police identified Nitcharata as one of the key account holders. She had reportedly been hiding in Malaysia but was apprehended upon returning to Thailand, on 20 February. During questioning, she denied any involvement in the scam but admitted to opening cryptocurrency and bank accounts for her Malaysian husband, claiming she was unaware of their illegal use. She has been handed over to the Economic Crime Suppression Division for further legal proceedings. -- 2025-02-21

  16. Picture from responders. A young wild elephant from the Khao Ang Rue Nai Wildlife Sanctuary, which spans five eastern provinces of Thailand, has been found dead under mysterious circumstances on a dirt road near a sugarcane plantation in Chachoengsao province. The elephant’s body bore dried blood stains and multiple old wounds resembling shotgun pellet impacts. At around 11:30 on 20 February, conservation officers from the Khao Ang Rue Nai Wildlife Sanctuary, along with local administrative officials and rescue volunteers from Phanom Sarakham, were dispatched to the scene in Khlong Takrao subdistrict, Tha Takiap district, following reports from a local fisherman who had discovered the body. The elephant, an eight-year-old male weighing approximately five tonnes, was found lying on its side, blocking the dirt road that runs through eucalyptus plantations, sugarcane fields, and oil palm farms. The scene was located about 300 metres from a quarry road and connected to routes leading into Bo Thong district, Chonburi. The elephant had a single long, sharp tusk on its left side, measuring about 50 centimetres. Its body was positioned with its trunk curved towards the sugarcane plantation, while its tail and hindquarters remained near the eucalyptus trees. Upon examination, conservation officers found dried blood streaks running down the elephant’s left side and pooling along its underside. The body was also covered in deep, old wounds resembling shotgun pellet entry points, with some injuries partially healed while others remained open but were beginning to close over with scar tissue. A particularly large open wound, approximately 15 centimetres long, was discovered near the tip of the elephant’s trunk. The cut appeared to be either from a sharp object or a grazing bullet wound, with the inner tissue beginning to dry. Authorities are awaiting the arrival of forensic officers from Tha Takiap Police Station and veterinarians from Protected Area Region 2 to conduct a full autopsy. The investigation aims to determine the cause of death and assess whether the elephant was a victim of poaching or conflict with local communities. -- 2025-02-21
